What the Placid Zapier integration actually does
It connects Placid, a tool that generates images and other visuals automatically from templates you design once, to Zapier. Zapier runs automations between apps. Here it goes both ways: an event elsewhere can ask Placid for a visual, and a visual finished in Placid can start a Zap that files it, posts it or sends it.
Three typical results. A social visual for every new item: a new blog post or product in another app feeds Create Image, which fills your template with its title and picture. Documents that assemble themselves: Create PDF turns form answers or order details into a certificate, a quote or a ticket. Finished files that go where they belong: New Image, New PDF and New Video start a Zap when Placid has produced a file, so it lands in a drive, an inbox or a channel.
What Zapier does not do for this app: it does not design templates, and every create action needs one already built in Placid. There is no search step and no action to edit or delete a template. Images and PDFs that take time to render may come back queued, which is what Get Image and Get PDF are for (and why the simplest Zap is not always the one that works first time).
The same app on Make has its own page, Placid Make integration, and the two tools are compared in Make vs Zapier.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words come back all over this page. Here they are, once, in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it; here, a finished image, PDF or video.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like rendering a template.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills you for: one action completed successfully. Your plan counts those, and nothing else.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeping what it has not seen.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports by itself: it calls Zapier when the event happens, so nothing waits for a scheduled check.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when the incoming item meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
What a Placid Zap costs you
Placid is not reserved for paid plans: it works from the free plan. You spend tasks, and a task only counts when an action succeeds.
- Trigger0 tasks
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Paid plan required for PlacidNo
The trigger never costs a task, and a failed action is not counted. Each Placid action that completes is one task: a Zap that creates an image, then fetches it with Get Image, spends two. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only, so that create-then-get pattern, or any filter, already needs a paid plan. The interval grid applies to polling triggers, and all three Placid triggers are instant.
Connect Placid to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open Apps and start a connection
Log in to Zapier and go to the Apps page of your account. Click + Add connection: a dialog opens where you search for the app you want to link, Placid included.
- 02
Pick Placid
Type Placid in the dialog, select it in the results, then click Add connection. You need an existing Placid account at this point: the connection links one, it never creates one.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to Placid in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access to the account. If the templates you want to use belong to someone else's project, check first that your Placid user can use them.
Your first Placid Zap: file every new image in a shared drive
GoalEach image Placid finishes that meets your condition lands in a shared drive folder, ready for the team, with nobody downloading it.
- 01
Set the trigger
Start building: pick Placid as the app that starts the Zap, New Image as the event, then select the Placid connection you just added.
- 02
Test on a real image
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account; pick a real image, since the next steps are mapped on it.
- 03
Add the filter
From the plus icon, add a Filter step: the field to look at, the rule, the value. Use a text rule for text, a number rule for numbers. This step needs a paid plan.
- 04
Add the upload
Pick your drive app and its upload action, choose the folder, then map the image from the test item into the file field. That action is the one that spends a task.
- 05
Test and publish
Test each step and read what came back, then click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only images created after that will start it.
Placid triggers on Zapier
3 events start a Zap when something happens in Placid, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Image
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new Image is created.”
Starts your Zap when Placid has created a new image. It is the hand-off point between generating a visual and using it: once the image exists, the Zap can store it, post it or attach it somewhere.
New PDF
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a PDF has been created.”
Fires once a PDF has been created in Placid. Where New Image serves social and web visuals, this one follows documents: certificates, quotes, tickets, anything built from a PDF template.
New Video
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a Video has been created.”
Reacts when Placid has created a video. Starting from the finished file is the cleanest way to pass a video on without guessing when the render will be ready.
Placid actions on Zapier
Placid gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Image
ActionIn Zapier“Create an Image from one of your templates”
Generates an image from one of your Placid templates, filled with values mapped from earlier steps.
Create PDF
ActionIn Zapier“Create a PDF from one of your templates”
Builds a PDF from a Placid template, so a document comes out filled with the data the Zap carries.
Create Video
ActionIn Zapier“Create a Video from one of your templates”
Renders a video from one of your Placid templates, using the text and media mapped in the Zap.
Convert File to URL
ActionIn Zapier“Convert files from previous steps into media URLs”
Turns a file produced by an earlier step into a media link that Placid can use in a template.
Get Image
ActionIn Zapier“Retrieve an image by its ID (for usage with queued images after a delay for processing)”
Picks up the finished version of an image Placid had put on hold, using the ID that Create Image gave back.
Get PDF
ActionIn Zapier“Retrieve a PDF by its ID (for usage with queued pdfs after a delay for processing)”
Hands the next step the real PDF once Placid is done with it, from the ID of a document that was put on hold.
Get Video
ActionIn Zapier“Retrieve a Video by its ID”
Looks up a Placid video by its ID, so a later step can use the finished render.
When your Placid Zap breaks
Most Placid Zaps that misbehave are not broken. They hit timing, loops or volume.
Zapier attaches no help article of its own to Placid, so the cases below are the general limits that apply to it, plus the queue that its own actions describe. For a broken Zap in general, there is Zapier troubleshooting.
A create step returns an unfinished file
Images and PDFs can be queued while they process. The Get actions exist for that case; or start a second Zap from New Image or New PDF instead. The Zap keeps setting itself off
A Zap that writes where its own trigger watches restarts again and again and eats tasks. New Image followed by Create Image is the setup to avoid.Older visuals never come through
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Images, PDFs and videos made before stay out of it; moving them is a separate job.A big batch gets held back
After a mass import or a migration, a trigger that suddenly sends a huge batch can be paused by Zapier's flood protection rather than run item by item.
