Strava Zapier integrationAutomate Strava with Zapier.
The Strava Zapier integration offers 0 triggers, 2 actions and 0 searches. That short list shapes everything: Strava can receive data from your other apps, but nothing in Strava can start a Zap. Here is what that means before you build.

What the Strava Zapier integration actually does
It lets Zapier write into your Strava account. A session recorded somewhere else (a spreadsheet, a form, a training app that does not talk to Strava) can be turned into a Strava activity without retyping it, and the advanced action lets a technical teammate reach the rest of what Strava offers with your account's access.
Three outcomes come up most. Indoor sessions on your profile: a coach logs a gym class in a shared sheet and Create Activity adds it to the athlete's Strava. A form for club outings: members fill in date and duration after a group run, and each answer lands as an activity. A custom call for the rest: API Request (Beta) sends a request of your own design to Strava, signed with your connection, for needs the standard action does not cover.
Now what Zapier does not do for Strava. There is no visible trigger, so a new run, a new club post or a new kudos cannot start a Zap here. There is no search step either: a Zap cannot look up an existing activity. If your idea starts with something happening in Strava, this integration will not carry it, however you arrange the steps.
The other two platforms handle Strava their own way: compare with the Strava n8n integration and the Strava Make integration before you commit.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Six words, enough to read the rest of the page.
- Zap
- The automation you build: one starting event, then one or more steps that run every time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts the Zap, like a new row in a sheet. Strava offers none, so it always comes from another app.
- Action
- What the Zap does once started: here, the step that creates an activity or sends a request to Strava for you.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. Each action that completes without error counts as one task on your monthly allowance.
- Polling vs instant
- Polling: Zapier asks an app for new items on a timer. Instant: the app tells Zapier itself the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming item matches your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
What a Strava Zap really costs
Strava is not reserved to paid plans: it works on the free one. What you pay for is the action, never the trigger.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Free plan Zap sizeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
- Trigger checksNever billed
- Failed actionNot counted
The trigger lives in your other app and costs nothing, however often Zapier checks it. Each Strava activity created successfully counts as one task. Add a second action and each counts on its own; a failed one is not billed. The free plan stops at two steps, which fits the classic sheet-to-Strava Zap exactly. Add a filter, such as only rows marked as runs, and the Zap turns multi-step and needs a paid plan.
Connect your Strava account in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Strava account linked once, then reused by every Zap that writes to it.
- 02
Pick Strava
Search for Strava in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Strava sign-in page. Log in with the athlete account that should receive the activities.
- 03
Grant access
Strava asks you to grant Zapier access to the account. Accept it on the Strava side, and the connection is ready to be picked in the Strava step of any Zap you build.
Your first Strava Zap, step by step
GoalEach run a coach logs in a shared spreadsheet becomes an activity on the athlete's Strava.
- 01
Create the Zap
Click Create. Since Strava has no trigger, pick the spreadsheet app as the starting point, with the event that fires on a new row of your training log.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent rows, so you map real data. Pick one that has a date, a start time and a duration.
- 03
Add the filter
Click the plus icon, choose Filter, then pick the session type column, a text rule and the value Run. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so this version needs a paid plan.
- 04
Add Create Activity
Add a step, choose Strava and Create Activity. Map the start date and time, then the elapsed time in seconds, plus a name if your sheet has one.
- 05
Test and check
Test the step and open Strava: the run should be on the athlete's profile. Check that the duration matches the row, since the field takes a value in seconds.
- 06
Publish
Click Publish. From now on each new run row becomes an activity; rows written before that moment are not picked up and stay where they are.
The 2 Strava actions
Strava gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Create Activity
ActionIn Zapier“Creates an activity.”
Adds a new activity to the connected Strava account from data handed over by an earlier step, so a workout recorded elsewhere shows up on the athlete's profile.
API Request (Beta)
ActionIn Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”
The advanced action: it sends a request you write yourself to Strava, already signed with your connection, for anything the standard action does not offer.
When a Strava Zap breaks
Zapier keeps two help articles on Strava, including Common problems with Strava on Zapier. The cases below are the limits you will meet first.
A broken Strava Zap is usually a Zap doing exactly what it was told, with data that did not fit. When the cause is not on this list, the Zapier troubleshooting page is the next stop.
Past sessions never arrive
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is published. Rows already in your sheet stay there; moving the backlog to Strava is a separate job.The duration field takes seconds
Activity Elapsed Time is entered in seconds. If your sheet stores the duration in minutes or hours, convert it before mapping, or the activity will not show the length you expect.A bulk import goes quiet
Pasting a huge batch of rows at once can make Zapier hold the trigger back as a flood. Add history in smaller groups once the Zap is live. The filter never lets anything through
Filter rules are typed: a number rule on a text column never matches. Check the rule type before blaming Strava.
