Shopify agency London: the 8 best, compared for 2026

Eight London Shopify partners compared on their official tier, their published results, their counted reviews and what they really charge.

The short answer, by profile:

  • A growing direct-to-consumer (DTC) brand that lives on repeat orders and subscriptions: Superco, a Platinum partner in Bermondsey with 58 reviews on Clutch averaging 4.9.
  • A brand-led store for a fashion, beauty or homeware label: Dash, a Premier studio of ten in Hackney, from about £22,000 ($30,000).
  • A live store that needs traffic and conversion: Charle, a Premier partner in Vauxhall.
  • Leaving Magento, or selling to trade buyers (B2B) with an ERP link (the software that runs your stock, orders and accounts): Unified, in Richmond.
  • Several countries and an enterprise budget: BORN, a Platinum global integrator in Islington, from about £30,000 ($40,000).
  • Under £10,000, or a first store: the lowest full-project minimums here are Propeller's and Limesharp's, at about £7,500 ($10,000). Below that, ask Superco about a smaller scope (Shopify's directory lists selected services from about £240, or $325, and many of its Clutch reviewers declare projects under $10,000), or hire a freelancer at about £400 a day.

London is home to a large share of the UK's top-tier Shopify partners. On Shopify's directory, six of the 19 UK Platinum partners give the capital as their base, as do six of the 17 Premier partners and 33 of the 109 Plus partners. The two rankings in Google's top results for a Shopify agency in London aren't neutral, though. One comes from an agency that ranks itself first, the other from an app maker that mixes in brand consultancies that don't build stores. We compared 51 agencies, kept the 8 with a proven London office and a real track record on Shopify, and scored each one on five criteria. Hack'celeration, which no longer sells agency work, is not ranked.

The 8 best Shopify agencies in London, side by side

Scores out of 5 are ours, and the tier is the one shown on Shopify's official partner directory, not the one an agency writes on its own site. Prices come in pounds first: Clutch and Shopify's directory list budgets and rates in US dollars, so we convert them (about £7,500 for $10,000, about £75 for $100 an hour) and give the dollar figure as listed. Some names you'll see on Google aren't here: the reason for each sits after the eight entries, under Also compared.

Each score is the average of five criteria, on one scale for every agency; a tie goes to the better track record, then the better reviews. Expertise: 3 when Shopify is one service among others, 3.5 with a Shopify page and named projects, 4 for a Shopify specialist or the Select tier, 4.5 for the Plus or Premier tier, 5 for Platinum, as shown on Shopify's directory. Track record counts named Shopify cases with figures: 2 for no named client, 3 for named clients only, 3.5 for one case, 4 for two to four, 4.5 for five or more, 5 when they are measured over time. Client reviews count independent reviews (Clutch, Shopify's directory): 2 for none, 3 under 5, 3.5 from 5, 4 from 20, 4.5 from 50, 5 from 100, half a point off under a 4.0 average. Transparency: 2 when nothing is published, 3 for a method or a price read only on a directory, 3.5 for an entry price on the agency's own site, 4 for its prices, 4.5 with the contract term, 5 with the reporting. Team & support: 3 under 10 people or unknown, 3.5 for 10 to 49, 4 for 50 or more, plus half a point for published support terms and half a point for a team that works in London.

Best overall for growing DTC brands

Superco

4.2/5

Superco is a Shopify Platinum partner based on Hatchers Mews in Bermondsey (SE1), working with brands in the UK and the US. It has been a Shopify partner since 2020, and it is also a Recharge Elite partner (Recharge is the app that runs subscriptions on many Shopify stores). The team sits in the 10 to 49 bracket and describes itself as Shopify specialists and former brand-side marketers. In other words, people who have sat on your side of the table.

The work covers Shopify Plus builds and migrations from Magento, WooCommerce or a headless setup (a custom front end detached from Shopify's own themes). It also handles B2B and ERP connections, international stores, conversion work and a growth retainer. A retainer is a monthly budget of hours booked in advance; at Superco it runs in three-month cycles, with a weekly update on the hours left. The stack around Shopify is the usual DTC one: Klaviyo for email (see the email tools we compared for Shopify), Recharge for subscriptions, Gorgias for customer service. Its sectors, as it lists them: health and wellness, fashion and apparel, home and interiors, food and drink, beauty and skincare, and pet.

One detail worth knowing. Its full-project minimum on Clutch is about £19,000 ($25,000), yet Shopify's directory lists selected services from $325, and projects under $10,000 are the most common size its Clutch reviewers declare. Smaller pieces of work clearly happen, so ask before ruling it out.

Standout features
  • Ursa Major: 32% more subscribers over six months
  • Allbirds: two stores moved from headless back to a native Shopify Plus theme
  • LSA International: from Magento to Shopify in six weeks
  • 4.9 out of 5 from 58 reviews on Clutch, 5.0 from 11 on Shopify's directory
+Pros
  • ✓The most Clutch reviews on this page (58), and recent ones
  • ✓Its minimum, its hourly rate and the rhythm of its retainers are all public
  • ✓Strong on subscriptions and retention, not just on the build
−Cons
  • ✗A full-project minimum of about £19,000 ($25,000) on Clutch, though smaller pieces of work start at $325 on Shopify's directory
  • ✗Retainers run in three-month cycles: you commit a quarter at a time
  • ✗One reviewer says a staff change hampered communication, another mentions delays
Verdict

The safest first call for a DTC brand that has outgrown its first theme and lives on repeat orders. With less than £7,500 to spend, ask it about a smaller scope before you turn to a freelancer.

Best for brand-led store design

Dash

4.0/5

Dash is a Premier Shopify partner with its studio on Mentmore Terrace in Hackney (E8). It calls itself a branding agency specialised in ecommerce, and that is the honest summary. Identity and store design come first, then the Shopify build (on Shopify's 2.0 themes or on Plus), conversion work, site speed and B2B. It has worked on Shopify since 2013 and has been a partner since 2015.

The team is small on purpose. Ten people, more than 220 projects delivered and 16+ awards and honourable mentions. Its clients are mostly fashion, beauty, homeware and jewellery brands: WatchHouse, Mirror Water, Alighieri, Collider, Nudea. And it publishes its results per project, with numbers.

Standout features
  • Collider: +167% product subscriptions on first orders, +30% gross sales, +24% add-to-cart rate
  • Nudea: +27% conversion rate and +55% average order value
  • 50 reviews on Shopify's directory, all at five stars
  • Brand identity and store design from the same team
+Pros
  • ✓Brand and design thinking that most build shops don't offer
  • ✓Results published per client, with figures
  • ✓A perfect review record on the official directory
−Cons
  • ✗Ten people: capacity is limited, and your timeline depends on it
  • ✗An entry ticket of about £22,000 ($30,000)
  • ✗Not the profile for a heavy ERP integration or a complex B2B catalogue
Verdict

Pick Dash when the store is the brand. If the hard part is the plumbing (ERP, B2B, a big migration), Unified is the better match.

Best for established and multi-site brands

Propeller

4.0/5

Propeller is a Shopify Plus partner on Colebrooke Row in Islington (N1), with a second office in Brooklyn. Founded in 2001, it has the largest team of the independent agencies on this page, in the 50 to 249 bracket. It is a full digital agency more than a pure Shopify shop: its reviews also mention WordPress, headless builds and hospitality groups with many sites. On Shopify, it handles Plus builds and migrations, ongoing management, international stores, SEO and audits.

Its clients include Twinings, Boy Smells, Tivoli and Mylands. The 200 Degrees coffee chain is its best measured case: conversion rates up 37% year on year, and 66% more sessions reaching checkout. Its Clutch reviewers also say what they spent, but only five of its 23 reviews are about Shopify work, so most of those budgets are not Shopify prices. The five that are: four between $10,000 and $49,999, and a Shopify Plus build between $50,000 and $199,999. Its Shopify page adds a second measured case: Pocari Sweat, whose sales rose 200% with the launch of a store tailored to US shoppers.

Standout features
  • 4.9 out of 5 from 23 reviews on Clutch
  • 200 Degrees: +37% conversion rate and +66% sessions reaching checkout, year on year
  • Five Shopify projects reviewed on Clutch: four between $10,000 and $49,999, a Shopify Plus build between $50,000 and $199,999
  • Pocari Sweat: sales up 200% with the launch of its US store
+Pros
  • ✓A steady flow of detailed reviews
  • ✓The size to run several sites and a long retainer
  • ✓One of the lowest published minimums on the page, at about £7,500 ($10,000)
−Cons
  • ✗Shopify is only part of its business: five of its 23 Clutch reviews are about Shopify work
  • ✗Plus tier, not Premier or Platinum
  • ✗Two reviewers ask for more communication after launch and around team changes
Verdict

A safe pair of hands for a brand that wants a bigger agency and a long relationship. For a Shopify-only specialist, Superco or Underwaterpistol go deeper.

Best for global enterprise

BORN (We Make Websites)

3.9/5

BORN is the name Shopify's directory now shows for We Make Websites, a long-standing London Shopify studio, founded in 2009 and a Shopify partner since 2012. BORN is part of Tech Mahindra. Shopify lists it as a Platinum partner and as a Shopify Global Systems Integrator (in plain words, an integrator for very large, multi-country projects). London is its primary location on the directory, and BORN's own site gives its London office on Pentonville Road (N1), in Islington.

It covers builds and migrations, themes, headless stores, ongoing management and custom apps. Its directory reviews come from brands such as The Hummingbird Bakery, Royal Museums Greenwich Shop and Mavi Canada. The catch: those reviews mostly date from 2017 and 2018, and the brand is in transition from We Make Websites to BORN.

Standout features
  • Platinum partner and Shopify Global Systems Integrator
  • Part of the Tech Mahindra group
  • 5.0 out of 5 from 82 reviews on Shopify's directory (78 five-star)
  • London office on Pentonville Road (N1), a Shopify partner since 2012
+Pros
  • ✓The backing of a global group for international roll-outs
  • ✓A long, highly rated record under the We Make Websites name
  • ✓Headless builds and custom apps on offer
−Cons
  • ✗The highest entry price on the page: about £30,000 ($40,000)
  • ✗Its reviews are old, mostly from 2017 and 2018
  • ✗Its own site shows no Shopify work, and the old We Make Websites site was offline when we checked: judge it on its Shopify directory profile, and ask for Shopify references and who will work on your account
Verdict

Built for global enterprise budgets. A mid-sized UK brand will usually get more attention for its money at Superco or Underwaterpistol.

Best for growth after launch

Charle

3.8/5

Charle is a Premier Shopify partner established in 2018, with its London office on Durham Street in Vauxhall (SE11) and a second office in New York; its contact page also lists Manchester. It builds and migrates Shopify and Shopify Plus stores, but its real pitch is what happens after launch. That means SEO (ranking on Google), GEO (getting your products cited by AI assistants such as ChatGPT) and CRO (conversion rate optimisation, the work of turning more visits into orders), plus email and retention. Everything is done in-house by a team in the 10 to 49 bracket, and it runs its own analytics tool, CSignal.

Its clients lean to fashion, food and drink, beauty and homeware, and its case studies are packed with numbers. Keep one thing in mind when you read its homepage. The averages it shows (a 44% average conversion uplift, for instance) are tracked in CSignal, its own platform, and it doesn't say which clients or which period they cover.

Standout features
  • Candy Kittens: +182% conversion rate; 111SKIN: +46%
  • Cambridge Satchel: +52% organic traffic; Muc-Off: +48% more orders
  • Migrated Joel & Son from Magento to Shopify Plus
  • Billionaire Boys Club: +22% revenue; Gray-Nicolls: +34% conversion rate
+Pros
  • ✓SEO, GEO, CRO and retention in the same team as the build
  • ✓Eight Shopify case studies with figures
  • ✓Offices in London and New York for brands selling in the US
−Cons
  • ✗Only 4 reviews on Clutch, none on Shopify's directory
  • ✗No published prices: its contact form runs from under £1,000 to £100,000+
  • ✗One reviewer says losing a developer delayed the project
Verdict

The right pick once the store exists and growth has stalled. If you are still building the brand from scratch, start with Dash.

Best for Magento migrations and B2B

Unified

3.8/5

Unified is a Premier Shopify partner based at Midmoor House on Kew Road, Richmond (TW9): south-west London rather than the centre. It is the oldest agency on this page, founded in 1993, with a team of 10 to 49. It is also multi-platform. Unified works on Magento (now Adobe Commerce), Shopify Plus and BigCommerce. That cuts both ways: Shopify is not its only trade, but it knows exactly what you are leaving when you migrate.

Its work covers strategy and platform choice, design, development, migrations, Klaviyo, B2B and integrations with a PIM (a product information system, where your catalogue data lives) or an ERP. The Conran Shop is the textbook case: an award-winning Magento to Shopify migration, meant to unlock an expansion into the Middle East, with a full redesign and links to its tills (POS), its ERP and Klaviyo. Its total cost of ownership was halved and conversions rose 54%. Boodles, House of Hackney and iCandy complete the list.

Standout features
  • Boodles: online revenue up 223%, online orders up 60%, conversion rate doubled
  • The Conran Shop: Magento to Shopify, built for an expansion into the Middle East, total cost of ownership halved
  • iCandy: engagement up 44%
  • Two Clutch reviewers declare projects between $200,000 and $999,999
+Pros
  • ✓Real migration experience, on the platform you are leaving
  • ✓Large, verifiable results on well-known UK retailers
  • ✓Used to big-budget, multi-country projects
−Cons
  • ✗Only 8 reviews on Clutch, and none shown on Shopify's directory
  • ✗The highest hourly band on Clutch among these agencies (about £110-150, $150-199, as at Limesharp and We Make Websites), and its Clutch reviewers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on cost
  • ✗Richmond, not central London, if you like to drop by
Verdict

The agency to call when the hard part is the migration, not the theme. For a first store or a design refresh, it is more firepower than you need.

Best for long Shopify experience

Underwaterpistol

3.7/5

Underwaterpistol, or UWP, is a Shopify Platinum partner on Wardour Street in Soho (W1F). It says it built the 90th Shopify store in the world, in 2006, and it has been a listed partner since 2012. No team on this page has been on the platform longer. It works 100% in-house, from design and development to content and SEO, has more than 200 projects behind it and sits in the 10 to 49 bracket.

Its services run from UX (user experience) and design to Plus migrations, conversion work, SEO, subscriptions, loyalty, and advice on AI and app stacks. Its clients include Ooni, Omaze, Wilkinson Sword, The Fish Society and Reach PLC, for which it built a marketplace. Ooni is the standout case: the conversion rate doubled during the first sale event after launch.

Standout features
  • Platinum partner, on Shopify since 2006
  • Ooni: conversion rate up 100% during the first post-launch sale
  • A marketplace build for Reach PLC
  • 4.8 out of 5 from 45 reviews on Shopify's directory (37 five-star, 7 four-star, 1 three-star)
+Pros
  • ✓The longest history on Shopify of any London agency here
  • ✓Everything in-house, including content and SEO
  • ✓Experience with marketplaces and B2B, not just DTC
−Cons
  • ✗No prices published: you only get a number after a call
  • ✗Most visible reviews date from 2018 and 2019
  • ✗One review complains about changing account managers, developers and SEO leads
Verdict

The veteran's choice, and a strong one for a Plus migration. Ask for two references from this year and the name of the person who will run your project.

Best for fashion and luxury labels

Limesharp

3.3/5

Limesharp is a Shopify Platinum partner with London as its primary location. Its contact page gives one office, in Techspace, a shared workspace on Goswell Road (EC1V, Islington). The map link on that page and its Clutch profile still point to other London addresses, in Whitechapel and Bethnal Green: Goswell Road is the one it writes out. It describes itself as a creatively led digital commerce agency for fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands, and says it has served them for the last 15 years. Clutch puts the team at 10 to 49 people, with 6 to 9 of them in London, and names no other office. So the rest of the team works somewhere the agency doesn't publish: ask who will build your store, and where.

Shopify is one of its two platforms. Limesharp is also a strategic partner of Centra, a commerce platform built for fashion brands, and several of its flagship builds run there: Paul Smith, John Smedley, Ellis Brigham. On Shopify, its directory work includes Vaara, Serena Bute, Jo Loves and Nobody's Child, which it moved from Magento to Shopify before a full redesign. Its client list also counts AllSaints, ME+EM, Space NK, Creed and Anya Hindmarch, and the loyalty programme it built with Paul Smith's team, the Collectors Club, won two D&AD Wood Pencils.

What it doesn't publish: measured results, and public reviews. So you judge it on its portfolio and on the references you call.

Standout features
  • Shopify Platinum partner, with London as its primary location
  • Nobody's Child: moved from Magento to Shopify, then fully redesigned
  • Two D&AD Wood Pencils for the Collectors Club, Paul Smith's loyalty programme
  • Clients include Paul Smith, AllSaints, ME+EM, Space NK and Creed
+Pros
  • ✓Fashion and luxury references you can open and judge for yourself
  • ✓Platinum tier on Shopify's official directory
  • ✓Loyalty programmes as a service, not just store builds
−Cons
  • ✗No public reviews: none on Shopify's directory, none on Clutch
  • ✗No measured results in its case studies
  • ✗Shopify shares the stage with Centra: ask which platform it would pick for you, and why
Verdict

A good call for a fashion or luxury label that cares how the store feels. Ask for two client references you can phone, since there are no public reviews to read.

London Shopify agencies we compared but did not rank

Each one ranks on Google for a Shopify agency in London, holds a top tier in London on Shopify's directory, or sits in a list you may have read. Here is the fact that kept it out.

  1. Eastside CoIt shows a Platinum badge on its site, but the directory link its own site gives leads to a page that no longer exists, and Eastside UK Ltd, the company behind the brand, is in liquidation.
    Not ranked
  2. Sutton CommerceIt has an office in Sutton, inside Greater London, but its London page claims no partner tier and names no client and no result.

  3. ElevenIt publishes no studio address: its only one is a registered office on Great Portland Street shared by more than 22,000 companies.
    Not ranked
  4. ChilliappleIt lists a head office in Tunbridge Wells and a London office on Upper Woburn Place, but its Shopify page claims no partner tier, and of the three case studies it shows, the first is a Magento build and the other two name no platform and no result.
    Not ranked
  5. Cartmade, GreenBerryCheaper London listings on Shopify's directory that fail the office test: Cartmade (from $2,000) gives Eleven's Great Portland Street address, next to an office in Kathmandu, and GreenBerry (from $565) a Regent Street address registered to nearly 2,000 companies.
    Not ranked
  6. Tryzens GlobalThe sixth Platinum partner based in London on Shopify's directory. Its own site gives London only as a city name, among six offices from Indianapolis to Trivandrum, with no street address; it shows no review on the directory and no Shopify result with figures, and its technology partners also include Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce and BigCommerce.
    Not ranked
  7. LiquifyA Plus partner with 5.0 from 81 reviews on Shopify's directory and a published price list, named in a UK ranking of Shopify agencies. But its contact page gives no address, and its team of five says it works remotely, not from a central office.
    Not ranked
  8. VervauntA Platinum partner working from a WeWork on Devonshire Square, it is a consultancy and media buyer more than a store builder: the work on its directory profile is paid search, performance marketing and consulting, and the results it publishes with figures are advertising results, not Shopify builds.

  9. FourmetaIt has 30 reviews averaging 5.0 on Shopify's directory but no partner tier there, and its only London address, on Albemarle Street in Mayfair, is a registered office shared by more than 1,000 companies; its site lists nine other UK cities, with no address.

Step by step

Your Shopify project in London, step by step

The reviews of London Shopify agencies point to the same few traps: people changing mid-project, retainer terms nobody read, and a store or a theme that isn't fully yours at the end. These seven steps keep you out of them. Do them in order, before you sign anything.

01

Decide between Shopify and Shopify Plus before the first call

Before any call

In the UK, Shopify costs £19 a month on Basic, £49 on Grow and £259 on Advanced, billed yearly (£25, £65 and £344 billed monthly), all excluding VAT. Shopify Plus, the enterprise plan, starts at £1,800 a month, excluding VAT too. That gap is the first thing to settle, because it changes which agencies make sense for you. Shopify's own directory describes Plus partners as typically preferred by mid-market and larger businesses, and Select partners by small and mid-sized ones.

An agency with "Plus" in its badge won't force you onto Plus. Still, ask it straight: which Plus feature justifies an extra £1,500 or more a month for your store? If the answer is vague, stay on a standard plan.

And check that you need an agency at all. A store on a Theme Store theme with a few apps can usually be set up with Shopify's free help centre, Shopify Academy and the community forum. Payments and UK VAT are handled in the settings; selling to the EU takes more care (step 6). An agency earns its fee on a migration with years of SEO history behind it, an ERP or PIM integration, a custom theme or B2B. Simple links between Shopify and your other tools don't always need one: our guide to automating Shopify with n8n shows what you can wire up yourself. Still weighing Shopify against a custom-built site, or against another platform? Our comparison of Shopify alternatives helps you settle that before you brief a Shopify agency.

Open the store in your own name

The trap

Some agencies build your store on their own partner account, as a "client transfer store", and hand it over at the end. It works, with one catch: a store cannot be transferred if Shopify Payments has been switched on, even in test mode.

The cleaner route: open the store in your name, then give the agency a collaborator account (the access Shopify gives to outside partners). You choose which areas of the store the agency can reach, and Shopify doesn't let you transfer store ownership to a collaborator, so the store stays in your name. When the project ends, you simply remove the access.

Do the same for the code. Write into the contract that the theme, the Liquid code (the template language Shopify themes are written in) and any private app become yours once paid. Some agencies keep the code and license it to you instead. You only find out the day you want to leave.

03

Check the agency on Shopify's directory, then read its reviews by date

5 minutes

Shopify's partner directory is free and it is the only place where the tier is official. Nearly 470 Shopify partners list the UK as their location. Tiers are based on a partner's history and proven success on Shopify. Platinum partners are typically preferred by global enterprise businesses, Premier partners by large enterprises, Plus partners by mid-market and larger businesses. A tier tells you about scale and enterprise focus. It doesn't tell you whether the agency fits a £20,000 project.

The test is simple. An agency that writes "Platinum" on its site must appear as Platinum on the directory. If it doesn't appear at all, ask why.

Then sort the reviews by date. Directory profiles are built on Shopify data from the last four years, but the reviews themselves can be much older. Some of the best-rated London agencies show mostly reviews from 2017 to 2019. Ask for two references from this year. And don't read a rank on a marketplace as a score: on one of the big agency marketplaces, the agencies at the top of the London Shopify list are featured placements, and paying members are spread through the rest.

Ask who will build your store, and who stays on it

The question that matters

A London address doesn't mean a London team. Agency directories for Shopify in London also list large development firms and offshore teams billing about £19 to £37 an hour ($25 to $49) that simply keep an office address in the capital. Others put "Powered by" another company in their footer. Neither is a problem in itself, as long as you know.

The most frequent complaint in the reviews we read is about people changing mid-project. Reviewers mention several account managers in a short period, a developer who left and delayed the project, and communication that dropped during team changes. It shows up even at well-rated agencies on this page.

So ask three questions, and get the answers in writing. Where do the developers who will code your store sit? Who is your project lead from start to finish? What happens if that person leaves?

Compare two quotes line by line

Budget

Two quotes for "a Shopify store" are rarely pricing the same thing. A low quote usually means a ready-made theme plus apps. A high one means a custom theme and integrations. Ask each agency for the list of paid apps it plans to install: each is a monthly subscription on top of Shopify, and our comparison of the best Shopify review apps shows how far those fees can vary for a single job.

Here are the benchmarks London agencies list on Clutch and Shopify's directory, converted from US dollars. Hourly rates run from about £75 to £110 for most ($100 to $149), and about £110 to £150 at the top ($150 to $199). Minimum projects sit between about £7,500 and £19,000 ($10,000 to $25,000), and entry prices reach about £22,000 to £30,000 ($30,000 to $40,000) at the design-led and enterprise end. At the very top of the UK market, some Plus specialists are unlikely to take on a build under £150,000.

A good test: ask each agency how it handles complex integrations and what international stores it has run. Then ask how its discovery phase works, who the project manager is and how its pricing is structured. Before any of that, work out what is holding your sales back (traffic, trust, conversion or the offer itself). Many stores need a fix, not a rebuild.

Settle how you will sell to the EU before the build

After Brexit

Since Brexit, a parcel from London to a customer in Paris or Berlin is an import into the EU. Left to the defaults, your customer pays the import VAT when the parcel arrives, collected by the carrier. So decide who pays what, and brief the agency on it before it builds the checkout.

For parcels worth up to €150, the EU's Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) lets you collect the VAT when the order is paid and declare it in one monthly return, and the parcel then enters the EU without import VAT. A business based outside the EU, as a London one now is, has to appoint an EU intermediary to use it. Above €150, IOSS doesn't apply, and VAT is settled at import. The duty-free threshold for small parcels is gone too. A temporary flat customs duty of €3 per item now applies to parcels up to €150, and a €2 EU handling fee is planned on every distance sale. On larger parcels, duty depends on origin. Goods sufficiently worked or processed in the UK can qualify for lower or no duty under a trade agreement; a product last worked on elsewhere takes that country's origin.

On the Shopify side, Markets sets the currency, pricing, languages, domains and taxes of each country you sell to. Shopify can also collect an estimate of duties and import taxes at checkout and print Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) labels, so the parcel arrives with nothing left to pay. Ask the agency three things: who sets up your VAT and duty settings, which country's checkout it will test with a real order, and whether your product data carries the HS codes (the customs code of each product) that duty estimates need.

Agree the retainer terms before you sign

Contract

Most agencies on this page offer ongoing work after launch, often as a retainer, and that is where costs can drift. Terms vary: one agency on this page bills in three-month cycles with a weekly update on the hours left. Before you sign, get three answers in writing: the minimum duration, the notice period, and what happens to hours you don't use.

If you are migrating a store with years of search traffic, ask how the agency will protect your rankings during the switch, and who checks them after launch.

Last, plan the exit on day one. You own the store, the code and the apps; the agency works through a collaborator account you can remove. Then a change of agency is a decision, not a crisis.

FAQ

Shopify agency London: your questions

  • How much does a Shopify agency in London cost?

Published entry points run from about £7,500 to £30,000 ($10,000 to $40,000) for a full project with a London Shopify partner, before Shopify's own fees. Propeller and Limesharp list a minimum of about £7,500 ($10,000) on Clutch, Superco and Unified about £19,000 ($25,000), Dash starts at about £22,000 ($30,000) and BORN at about £30,000 ($40,000). The budgets Clutch reviewers declare show what each kind of job costs. At Superco, email work, small design jobs and simple sites sit under about £7,500 ($10,000); migrations and redesigns of established stores between about £7,500 and £37,000 ($10,000 to $49,999); custom Shopify builds for a cocktail brand and a food company between about £37,000 and £149,000 ($50,000 to $199,999). At Propeller, a Shopify Plus build for a consumer goods company falls in that same band. Add Shopify itself, excluding VAT: £19 to £259 a month on the standard plans billed yearly, from £1,800 on Plus. The tip: describe your project in those terms (a fix, a migration, a custom build) when you ask for a quote, then check where the price lands against these bands.

  • How much does a Shopify expert or freelancer cost in London?

About £400 a day: that is the median rate advertised for freelance Shopify contracts in London. For theme tweaks, a few apps to set up or a small store, a freelancer is often enough and far cheaper than an agency minimum. An agency makes sense when you need several skills at once: a migration with SEO history, an ERP integration, a full redesign. The tip: day rates vary a lot, with the cheapest tenth of contracts under £255 and the dearest tenth above £534. So ask for a fixed price per task rather than an open day count.

  • How do I choose a Shopify agency in London?

Match the agency to the job, not to the badge. For a brand-led build, look at Dash or Superco; for a migration, Unified, Superco or Underwaterpistol; for growth on a live store, Charle; for subscriptions, Superco; for a fashion or luxury label, Dash or Limesharp. Then shortlist three, check each one's tier on Shopify's directory, and read their reviews sorted by date. On the first call, ask who will build your store and who stays on it until launch. Changing contacts is the most common complaint in the reviews of London Shopify agencies.

  • Should I hire a Shopify agency in London, or elsewhere in the UK?

Pay for London only if you will use it. A London studio makes sense when you want workshops in person, a shoot or a launch in the capital, or a team you can drop in on during a long migration. For a build run on calls and shared boards, a partner elsewhere in the UK works in the same time zone, under the same UK VAT rules. And the top tier isn't a London monopoly: on Shopify's directory, 13 of the UK's 19 Platinum partners are based outside the capital, Kubix in Birmingham and Swanky in Exeter among them. The tip: whichever city you pick, ask where the developers sit (step 4), because a London address doesn't guarantee a London team.

  • Do I need Shopify Plus, or will a standard plan do?

A standard plan does for most stores starting out, and working with a Plus or Platinum agency doesn't oblige you to move to Plus. Plus earns its price (see step 1) on three things the standard plans limit: up to nine expansion stores for other markets, a fully customisable checkout, and unlimited B2B catalogues instead of three. If none of them is on your roadmap for the next year, you don't need it yet.

  • Can a London agency migrate my store from Magento or WooCommerce?

Yes, and several on this page have done it for known brands. Superco moved LSA International from Magento to Shopify in six weeks and also handles WooCommerce and headless stores. Unified moved The Conran Shop from Magento, halving its total cost of ownership. Charle migrated Joel & Son to Shopify Plus, and Limesharp moved Nobody's Child from Magento to Shopify before redesigning it. The tip: ask the agency to show you a past migration where search traffic held after the switch. A migration is where an agency earns its fee, and where a careless one costs you rankings.

  • How long before a Shopify agency's work shows results?

Weeks for the build, months for growth. A migration can be done in about six weeks, as Superco did for LSA International. Growth takes longer: Ursa Major gained 32% more subscribers over six months. A new store can pay off fast on a big event: Ooni's conversion rate doubled during its first sale after launch. Plan your commitment accordingly. Retainers can run by the quarter (Superco's do), so budget at least three months of work before you judge, and longer for SEO.

  • Which London Shopify agencies are best for subscription brands?

Superco first. It is a Recharge Elite partner (Recharge is the app that runs subscriptions on many Shopify stores) and grew Ursa Major's subscribers by 32% in six months. Dash is worth a look if design comes first: it grew product subscriptions on Collider's first orders by 167%. Underwaterpistol also lists subscriptions and loyalty among its services. Ask each one which subscription app it recommends and why, since the app's monthly fee will sit on top of Shopify for years.

  • Do London Shopify agencies work with brands outside the UK?

Yes, most of the agencies on this page do. Superco works across the UK and the US, Charle has an office in New York and Propeller one in Brooklyn. Unified rebuilt The Conran Shop on Shopify with an expansion into the Middle East in mind, and BORN, a global integrator, lists offices from New York to Singapore. If you sell mainly in the US, check how many working hours your project lead shares with your time zone, and whether your US office contact can make decisions.
