What is the best AI app builder in 2026?

The right pick depends on what you're building: a web prototype, an internal tool or a real mobile app.

You describe your app in plain English, the tool writes it, hosts it, and you fix things by chatting. That's the pitch behind every AI app builder (the trend people call vibe coding). It holds up for about twenty minutes. Then come user logins, a real database, payments, and every fix burns credits.

Here's the short answer. Lovable is the best place to start for a web app: the most polished output, code synced to GitHub and a security scan before every publish, for $25 a month. Base44 is the most complete for a total beginner, with database, auth and hosting built in from $20 a month. Bolt.new suits people who want to see the code, with 10M tokens that roll over on Pro. Replit goes furthest toward production. v0 wins on UI. Bubble and FlutterFlow are the long-term picks for a business app or a real App Store app.

One thing none of them solves for you: AI ships the first 70% fast. Data access rules, permissions and edge cases are still on you, or on someone who can read code.

How we ranked

How we compared and ranked

We compared these seven tools using their official pages (pricing, credits, limits, export), their security docs and hundreds of user reviews from Trustpilot, Reddit and vendor forums. We didn't open accounts for this page: every fact comes from a verified source.

The rank follows search intent: describe an app, get an app. Tools that generate a full app from a prompt come before no-code platforms (visual builders) where AI is a helper. The score reuses our full review of each tool, so a tool has the same score everywhere on the site. That's why Bubble, with a higher score, sits below Lovable.

Best AI app builder for web apps

Lovable

4.0/5

Lovable tops most rankings, and the user reviews explain why: the first version almost always looks good. You describe the app, Lovable writes a React front end, wires up a Supabase database and publishes it. The code syncs to GitHub, so you can hand it to a developer whenever you need to.

Pricing is easy to read: $25 a month for 100 credits on Pro, plus 5 free credits every day. The catch is the fix-it loop. A simple request is cheap; a fix that goes in circles isn't. One Reddit user says repairing a single broken feature ate around 40 credits. Daily credits vanish at night, and monthly credits expire after two months.

On security, Lovable runs a scan before every publish and flags tables with no Row Level Security (RLS, the rules that decide who can read which row). That check exists for a reason: a 2025 flaw left Supabase keys exposed in the client code of some Lovable apps.

Standout features
  • Cleanest UI out of the first prompt
  • GitHub code sync
  • Security scan before publishing
  • Supabase wired in automatically
+Pros
  • ✓Fastest path to a demo-ready prototype
  • ✓Code you can take anywhere
  • ✓Simple $25 entry price
−Cons
  • ✗Credits drain fast in fix loops
  • ✗Web only, no native mobile
  • ✗Complex business logic needs hand work
Verdict

The first pick for a web app. Plan your prompts before sending them, connect GitHub on day one, and get a technical review before real customers log in.

2
Best for total beginners

Base44

3.8/5

Base44 takes the opposite approach to Lovable. Instead of asking you to connect Supabase, it bundles everything: database, user auth, roles, hosting. You type what you want and the app runs. For an internal tool (a request tracker, a lightweight CRM, a team dashboard), that's often the shortest path. Wix bought the company in 2025.

The free plan gives 25 credits a month, enough to see if it clicks. Starter costs $20 a month, $16 billed yearly. The price of that convenience is lock-in: GitHub export starts on Builder, and what you get out is mostly the front end. The database and backend logic stay on Base44.

Reviews are split. On Trustpilot, users complain about paying credits for the AI to fix its own bugs. Base44's own answer is Discuss mode, at 0.3 credits per turn, so you think it through before generating.

Standout features
  • Built-in database and auth
  • Roles and permissions without code
  • Several apps on the free plan
  • 20% off on annual billing
+Pros
  • ✓Nothing to configure to get going
  • ✓Great fit for internal tools
  • ✓Starter at $16/mo billed yearly
−Cons
  • ✗Partial export, backend stays locked in
  • ✗GitHub export from Builder only
  • ✗Very mixed billing reviews
Verdict

The easiest route to an internal tool. Skip it if the app may ever need to leave the platform: the day you go, you rebuild the backend.

3
Best for seeing and owning the code

Bolt.new

3.7/5

Bolt.new, from StackBlitz, runs a full dev environment in your browser. You see the files, the terminal, the errors. That's great if you have some technical background and rough if you don't: when something breaks, Bolt shows you why but doesn't always fix it.

Billing is in tokens (chunks of text the AI reads and writes). Free gives 1M a month, capped at 300K a day. Pro, at $25 a month, gives 10M with no daily cap, and unused tokens roll over. That's a real edge over credits that expire elsewhere. Annual billing saves up to 28%.

The flip side: each request re-reads the project, so a growing app costs more per change. Bolt sits at 2.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot, with complaints about tokens spent with nothing to show for it and code reverting to an older version. The fairest summary comes from r/SideProject: a demo in 20 minutes, then two more weeks to add auth and a real database.

Standout features
  • Full dev environment in the browser
  • Token rollover on Pro
  • Free with no credit card
  • Exportable code, host anywhere
+Pros
  • ✓Full visibility into the code
  • ✓Unused tokens carry over
  • ✓Very fast working demo
−Cons
  • ✗Cost per request grows with the project
  • ✗Support draws heavy criticism
  • ✗Confusing for non-technical users
Verdict

A solid pick if you read some code and want control. Pure beginners will waste less time on Lovable or Base44.

Best for shipping to production

Replit

3.8/5

Replit is an online dev environment with an AI agent that can build an app end to end, from database to deploy. It's the closest thing here to a real developer: it installs libraries, runs tests and fixes its own errors. For an app that has to stay online and grow, it's the sturdiest option on this list.

Core starts at $20 a month. The issue is what comes next: the agent spends credits on every action, and reviews keep mentioning bills higher than expected. On Trustpilot (2.8 out of 5), one user says the agent burned 60% of their monthly credits in an hour fixing its own mistakes. Another warns beginners away.

Pro at $100 a month adds $100 of credits, database rollback up to 28 days and team collaboration. Worth it once you have real users.

Standout features
  • Agent that builds, tests and deploys
  • Built-in database and hosting
  • Database rollback on Pro
  • Full code ownership
+Pros
  • ✓Sturdiest for an app that lasts
  • ✓Everything in one place
  • ✓Standard code, no lock-in
−Cons
  • ✗Hard-to-predict bills
  • ✗No real free plan for building
  • ✗Less hand-holding for beginners
Verdict

The right tool when the prototype turns into a product. Set a spending limit before you let the agent run on its own. Against Emergent, see our Replit vs Emergent comparison.

5
Best for UI

v0

3.6/5

v0 is Vercel's builder, from the company behind Next.js. Its strength is UI: clean, consistent screens that developers pick up without wincing. Since 2026 it also connects databases through the Vercel Marketplace (Supabase, Neon and AWS databases).

The backend is still its weak spot. One published review describes raw SQL with no migrations and three rounds to add user auth. And everything is built around Vercel: hosting elsewhere adds friction.

Free is capped at 7 messages a day. Plus costs $30 per user per month, with $30 of credits and $2 free every day you log in.

Standout features
  • High-quality Next.js UI
  • Databases via the Vercel Marketplace
  • $2 free credits per login day
  • GitHub sync
+Pros
  • ✓Best-looking UI code
  • ✓Easy for a developer to take over
  • ✓One-click Vercel deploys
−Cons
  • ✗Fragile backend
  • ✗Built around Vercel
  • ✗7 messages a day on Free
Verdict

Great for designing the product, weaker at running it alone. Pair it with a developer or a properly configured Supabase.

Best for a long-lived business app

Bubble

4.2/5

Bubble wasn't born with AI: it's a no-code platform that's been around for over ten years and now has an AI app generator on top. The difference shows over time. Where newer builders struggle with permissions, payments and workflows, Bubble has thousands of apps in production and a forum where almost every problem already has an answer.

Pricing follows usage. Starter at $69 a month includes 200K workload units (Bubble's measure of server work). A successful app uses more: some go from $249 to $450 a month as they grow. The free plan lets you build but not publish.

The trade-off is clear: Bubble doesn't export code. Your app lives on the platform, which is good (nothing to host) and bad (no way out without a rebuild).

Standout features
  • AI generator plus a full visual editor
  • Fine-grained workflows and permissions
  • Wrapper for App Store and Google Play
  • Very active forum
+Pros
  • ✓Most mature for business apps
  • ✓Nothing to host or secure yourself
  • ✓Community answers everything
−Cons
  • ✗No code export
  • ✗Costs climb with traffic
  • ✗Real learning curve
Verdict

The sensible choice for a business app that has to last. Start with the AI generator, then learn the editor: that's where Bubble earns its keep. Weighing WeWeb? Read our Bubble vs WeWeb comparison.

Best for a real mobile app

FlutterFlow

4.0/5

Lovable, Bolt and v0 build web apps. If you want an app in the App Store, you need something else. FlutterFlow generates Flutter code, Google's framework for native iOS and Android apps, with a visual editor and AI that builds pages from a description. Its sibling Dreamflow goes further, from prompt to full app, with 10 free credits to try it.

Basic at $39 a month unlocks code download, so the app is truly yours. Prices went up in 2026 (Basic used to be $30). For team work, Growth starts at $80 a month.

Add the store fees nobody mentions: $99 a year for an Apple developer account and a one-time $25 for Google Play.

Standout features
  • Native iOS and Android apps
  • Flutter code download from Basic
  • Dreamflow for prompt-to-app
  • Firebase and Supabase integration
+Pros
  • ✓The only real App Store path here
  • ✓Code you own, not rent
  • ✓Accessible Basic plan at $39
−Cons
  • ✗Less magic than a pure AI builder
  • ✗Pricey per seat for teams
  • ✗Price increase in 2026
Verdict

The obvious pick for a mobile app. Prototype in Dreamflow, then finish in FlutterFlow with the code in hand.

Real cost

What you really pay once the fixes start

Most roundups quote the entry price. That's rarely your bill. Every tool here charges for AI by usage, in credits or tokens, and the bill is decided by the fixes, not the first version. Here's what to watch, tool by tool.

Credits that expire

On Lovable, the 5 daily credits disappear at night and monthly credits expire after two months. On Base44 they reset every month. If you build in bursts (every other weekend), you'll pay more than someone who builds daily.

Tokens that grow

On Bolt, every request re-reads the project. A 50-file app costs far more to change than a 5-file prototype. On the plus side, the 10M Pro tokens roll over month to month.

The agent on autopilot

On Replit, the agent chains actions without asking. One user says it burned 60% of their monthly credits in an hour. Set a spending cap before launching a long task.

Hosting that tracks success

On Bubble, the bill follows traffic: 200K units on Starter at $69, and Growth costs $249. An app that takes off can double its bill without a single new feature.

Costs outside the tool

For mobile: $99 a year for Apple, a one-time $25 for Google. For web: a domain, and often a paid Supabase plan once the database outgrows the free tier.

A realistic budget

For a web prototype, plan on one month of Pro ($25) plus a top-up. For an internal team tool, Base44 Builder or Bubble Starter. For a published mobile app, FlutterFlow Basic plus Apple's fee, about $570 in year one.
  • Budget for three months of fixes, not the first prompt.
  • Check whether unused credits roll over or vanish.
  • See if hosting is included or billed separately.
  • Look for annual billing: 20% off on Base44, up to 28% on Bolt.
  • Set a spending cap wherever the tool allows it.
Security, data, export

From prototype to an app you can open to customers

AI quickly ships an app that looks done. What's missing doesn't show: who can read which data, what happens when a payment fails, what you keep if you switch tools. These four steps separate a demo from a product.

01

Check who can read your data

Must do

Most generated apps run on Supabase. Its protection relies on RLS policies: without them, anyone can read your database from the browser. In 2025, a flaw tracked as CVE-2025-48757 showed Supabase admin keys exposed in the client code of some Lovable apps. Lovable has since added a pre-publish scan.

Before launch, ask the tool to list every table and its access rule, run the security scan, and make sure no service_role key appears in front-end code.

02

Connect GitHub on day one

Exit plan

GitHub keeps every version of your code. If the AI breaks a feature, you roll back. If the vendor changes pricing, you leave with your app. Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Replit do this from their entry plans. Base44 only from Builder, and Bubble never.

Full export

03

Test login and payments by hand

The last 30%

This is where builders struggle most. A demo in 20 minutes, two weeks to add auth and a real database, as one Reddit thread put it. Create three test accounts (admin, user, visitor) and check what each one sees. For payments, use Stripe's test mode before any real customer.

Test
Sign-up, password reset, roles, declined payment
04

Get the code reviewed before launch

Recommended

Half a day of a developer's time costs less than a customer data leak. Projects that work tend to follow the same path: validate the idea with a builder, then a pro takes over the last third. With the code on GitHub, that review doesn't require switching tools.

Spend less, build better

Six habits that save credits

These tips come from forums and user reviews. They apply to every tool in this ranking.

01

Talk before you generate

Base44 has Discuss mode at 0.3 credits per turn, Lovable a Chat mode that doesn't touch the code. Ask your questions there, then send one clear request. You skip paying for three failed generations.

02

Batch your requests

Three small requests cost more than one that lists all three changes. Write them down, then send them together, numbered.

03

Stop the loop after two fails

If the AI fails twice on the same bug, a third try rarely works. Roll back, rephrase the problem, or fix the file by hand. It's the most repeated tip on the Bolt and Lovable forums.

04

Edit text without AI

Lovable and Base44 have visual editing: changing a heading or a color costs no credits. Save the AI for logic.

05

Use your daily credits

Lovable gives 5 credits a day, v0 $2 per login day. They vanish if unused. A short daily session beats a weekend marathon.

06

Go annual at the right time

Base44 takes 20% off for annual, Bolt up to 28%, Replit 10%. Wait until you've finished a first project before committing: by then you'll know which tool fits.

FAQ · 8 questions

AI app builder · FAQ

  • Do I need to know how to code to build an app with AI?
Not for a prototype, partly for a product. Lovable and Base44 ship a working app without a line of code. But checking data access rules or breaking a bug loop means reading some code. Half a day of developer review before launch is often enough.
  • Is there a truly free AI app builder?
Free to try, yes; free to launch, rarely. Bolt gives 1M tokens a month with no card, Lovable 5 credits a day, Base44 25 credits a month, v0 7 messages a day. None is enough to finish an app. Bubble lets you build for free but not publish.
  • Can I put an AI-built app on the App Store?
Yes, with the right tool. Lovable, Bolt and v0 build web apps that install to the home screen but don't get into the App Store without a wrapper. FlutterFlow generates native iOS and Android code, and Bubble offers a wrapper. Budget $99 a year for Apple and a one-time $25 for Google Play.
  • Can ChatGPT build an app for me?
It can write the code, not host it or connect it to a database. You'd copy the files, set up an environment and deploy it yourself. A builder like Lovable or Replit does all of that in one place, which is what you're paying for.
  • Why do my credits run out so fast?
Because fixes cost more than building. Every failure triggers another generation, and some tools re-read the whole project on each request. Batch your changes, talk before generating, and stop after the second failed fix: roll back instead of pushing on.
  • Is my AI-generated app secure?
Not necessarily. The main risk is Supabase databases with no RLS policies, which lets anyone read the data. Run Lovable's security scan before publishing, check every table, and don't open the app to customers without a review.
  • What happens if I want to switch tools?
It comes down to export. With Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0 or FlutterFlow, you get the full code on GitHub. With Base44, you mostly get the front end: the database and backend stay with the vendor. With Bubble, nothing exports: you rebuild.
  • What about Emergent, Rork or Cursor?
Emergent is a promising builder but pricey: $20 then $200 a month with nothing in between, and weak support, hence its 3.4 out of 5 in our review. Rork targets mobile apps, but its pricing wasn't readable on its official page, so it isn't ranked. Cursor is an AI code editor: excellent, but built for people who already code.
