What is the best field service management software for a small team?
The one that keeps scheduling, the signed job sheet and the invoice in one flow, and still works in a basement with no signal. Expect $39 to $79 per tech per month, or a flat team plan.
You run 2 to 20 techs in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, cleaning or appliance repair. Jobs live in a group text, paperwork comes back on Friday, and invoices go out a week late.
The short answer: pick Jobber if you are a small home service business that wants quoting, scheduling and online payments that just work. Housecall Pro fits busier residential shops that want online booking and bigger team plans. Synchroteam is the cleanest per-user option with no contract, Praxedo suits teams of five or more with heavy processes, Tradify gives trade crews a simple per-user plan with QuickBooks sync, and Zoho FSM, outside the ranking, lets you start for free.
What most lists skip: the promo price is not the renewal price, plans cap the number of users, and some apps go blank without signal. We compared every tool on those points.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored placement is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

Jobber's score is carried over from our contractor invoicing and estimating rankings; the other tools get their first score here. The rank follows this page's test, running a field team end to end, not the score alone. Prices read on official pages in 2026.

How we compared and ranked
Most top results for this search are written by software vendors ranking themselves, or by directories where you cannot compare scores. Few show the renewal price, and almost none check whether the app works offline.
We read every official pricing page, the plan details, and hundreds of user reviews, mostly the critical ones: renewal hikes, slow support, data export when you leave. Our reader is the owner of a home or commercial service business with 2 to 20 techs.
Each tool was reviewed on one grid: scheduling and dispatch, the tech's mobile app, signed job sheets with photos, invoicing and payments, and offline use. The rank follows that grid. Scores already published on our other rankings are reused as is, which is why Praxedo scores higher but ranks fourth: its five-user minimum and setup fees make it a poor fit for a three-tech shop.

Jobber
Jobber is the default pick for small US home service businesses, and for good reason. Its Core plan starts at $49 a month for one user and the higher plans start at $139 (Connect) and $199 (Grow) as your team grows. Each extra user costs $29 a month, and teams of 16 or more get a quote.
The catch is on the pricing page itself: introductory discounts on the first months and on annual billing make the entry price look lower than what you pay at renewal. Card payments through Jobber cost 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction. Jobber does not advertise an offline mode on its pricing page, so check it in the trial if your techs work in crawl spaces.
Owners of small crews say it gives them reliable basics without a long setup. The complaints are about price climbing as you add users and some slow support tickets.
Tip: write down the price you will pay in month 13 before you sign. That is the number to compare.
- Quotes to payments in one flow
- Plans that scale with the team
- Clean mobile app
- ✓Fast to learn
- ✓Strong for residential work
- ✓Large ecosystem
- ✗Renewal price above intro offers
- ✗Cost climbs per user
- ✗Offline mode not advertised
The safest choice for a crew under 15. If you need deep reporting or multi-branch dispatch, look higher up the market.
Housecall Pro
Housecall Pro sells team plans, not seats. Basic is $59 a month billed annually ($79 monthly) for one user, Essentials $149 ($189) for up to five, and MAX $299 ($329) for eight, with $35 per extra user. Offline viewing is included on every plan.
Its strength is everything around the job: online booking on every plan, and QuickBooks Online and Desktop sync from Essentials. For a shop that lives on repeat residential customers, that is where the money is.
Users who compare it with Jobber often describe Housecall as the better fit for bigger residential shops, and Jobber for smaller crews. The complaints focus on support response times and some bugs after updates.
Tip: count your techs before choosing a tier. At six users, Essentials no longer covers you and MAX is the next step.
- Team plans, not per seat
- Offline viewing on all plans
- Online booking on every plan
- ✓Good value for 3 to 8 techs
- ✓Online booking included
- ✓Annual discount
- ✗User caps per plan
- ✗Support response times criticized
- ✗MAX needed past 5 users
A strong pick if your growth comes from repeat residential customers. Smaller crews may get more from Jobber's simpler setup.
Synchroteam
Synchroteam keeps pricing simple: Standard is $39 per user per month billed annually or $49 monthly, and includes everything except route optimization. Premium adds it for $64 or $79. There is no contract, the first admin login is free, and the trial runs 14 days without a card. Note the terms: all sales are final.
Job reports take photos and signatures, quotes and invoices are built in, and two-way QuickBooks Online sync is included on every plan. That makes it a good fit for commercial maintenance where techs must leave a clean, signed report.
Users rate support and value well. The limits they mention: basic GPS tracking, and managers cannot reassign jobs from the mobile app, only from the web.
Tip: start monthly during your first months, then switch to annual once the team is on board. The gap is $10 per user per month.
- First admin free
- No contract
- Two-way QuickBooks Online sync
- ✓Clear per-user pricing
- ✓Well-rated support
- ✓Quotes and invoices included
- ✗No reassigning from mobile
- ✗Basic GPS
- ✗No refunds
The cleanest per-user deal for commercial service work. If dispatchers plan from the field, test reassigning in the trial.
Praxedo
Praxedo is the deepest tool here. Plans run from $39 (Basic) to $149 (Automated) per user per month, with Advanced at $69 and Optimized at $99. Two lines to read: a five-user minimum, and listed rates exclude one-time implementation and setup fees.
The mobile app works offline and syncs as soon as signal returns, and reports come out as signed PDFs. Billing data flows to your accounting tool rather than replacing it.
Customers praise responsive support and a setup tailored to their trade. The complaints: a long learning curve and dashboards that are hard to customize.
Tip: ask for the setup fee in writing with the quote. In year one, it can weigh as much as the subscription.
- Offline app with live sync
- Contractor portal option
- Remote video assistance
- ✓Deepest features ranked
- ✓Responsive support
- ✓Accounting link
- ✗Five-user minimum
- ✗Setup fees extra
- ✗Long learning curve
Worth it past five techs with heavy compliance. Too much tool for a small crew.
Tradify
Tradify is built for trade businesses rather than big dispatch centers. The pricing page lists Lite at $47 per user per month, Pro at $51 and Plus at $61, with a Custom plan on request. The 14-day trial includes every feature.
Every plan includes scheduling with Google Calendar sync, quoting and invoicing, online and credit card payments, and Xero and QuickBooks Online sync. Techs get iOS and Android apps where they add photos, videos and notes to the job and fill in their timesheets.
What its pages do not advertise: a customer signature on the job sheet and offline use. For a signed proof of work, check both in the trial before you commit.
Tip: price your whole crew per user. At five techs on Pro, that is $255 a month.
- Scheduling with Google Calendar sync
- Timesheets from the phone
- QuickBooks and Xero sync on every plan
- ✓Simple per-user price
- ✓Card payments included
- ✓All features in the trial
- ✗Signature on site not advertised
- ✗Offline mode not advertised
- ✗Cost grows with each user
A clean fit for a trade crew that invoices from the job. If a signed job sheet is a must, confirm it in the trial.

Zoho FSM: a generous free plan, paid tiers without a list price
Free planZoho FSM is free for up to 20 users and 30 appointments a month, with work orders, scheduling, a mobile app and invoicing.
