What is the best package tracking software in 2026?

Eight tools compared so your customers stop emailing "where is my order?" and your bill doesn't climb faster than your sales.

The short answer: on Shopify, start with ParcelPanel. It is free for 20 orders a month, Essential covers 200 orders for $11, and every extra order costs $0.05. At 500 orders that is $26 a month. If you want SMS, analytics and API access in one place and you ship around 500 parcels a month, AfterShip Premium is the established pick at $70. For a free plan that actually does something, 17TRACK gives you 50 shipments and a branded tracking page at $0. On WooCommerce, the free Advanced Shipment Tracking plugin covers the basics.

Package tracking software pulls the tracking number from each order, polls the carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL and thousands more), shows progress on a page with your branding and sends email or SMS updates. The goal is fewer "where is my order?" tickets, which support teams call WISMO. Most rankings on this query are written by tracking vendors that put themselves first. We compared the official price grids, then read the one-star reviews of each app before the five-star ones.

How we compared

How we compared and scored

We started from a merchant's question: which tool tells my customers where their parcel is without costing a fortune as I grow? For each tool we read the official price grid (vendor site or Shopify App Store listing), the quota, the overage price and what each plan unlocks: branded page, SMS, translation, API. Tools with no public price stay out of the ranking. That rules out Narvar, parcelLab and ClickPost, sold on quote to large retailers, and Track123, which is no longer on the Shopify App Store.

We then read the one-star reviews of each app and threads in the Shopify Community. They reveal what listings don't: late syncs, emails in spam and features that move to a pricier plan. Scores use the same five equally weighted criteria as our review pages, so a tool keeps the same score across the site. Sendcloud has its own review page, ShippyPro is scored on our shipping software ranking, and AfterShip keeps the score from our Sendcloud alternatives page: their scores come from there. Rank and score measure different things. The rank follows the answer to the question (tracking and notifying customers on Shopify); the score follows the tool's grid, so a higher-scored tool can sit lower. Route sells parcel protection, with no public tracking price we could read, so it stays out.

Best overall on Shopify

ParcelPanel

4.0/5

ParcelPanel, built by CWILL (the app is gradually taking the CWILL name), is the top-rated tracking app on the Shopify App Store: 5.0 from more than 3,200 reviews. It syncs tracking numbers from your orders, recognizes 1,600+ carriers and shows a branded, localized tracking page on the free plan.

Its pricing is the fairest here for a growing store because it counts orders, not page views. A customer who refreshes the tracking page ten times costs you nothing extra. Free covers 20 orders a month, Essential 200 orders for $11, and each extra order is $0.05. At 500 orders, Essential comes to $26 ($11 plus 300 orders at $0.05), cheaper than moving up to Professional.

Professional at $59 adds what cross-border stores need: automatic translation of tracking events, CSV and PDF export, Klaviyo and PayPal integrations, API and webhooks (a webhook pings your own system the moment a status changes) and removal of CWILL branding.

The catch, from recent one-star reviews: tracking that stops updating for days, which brings back WISMO tickets and can end in chargebacks. Some merchants also found notification emails landing in spam. Place a dummy order and check your inbox before turning notifications on.

Standout features
  • Branded, localized tracking page on the free plan
  • Unlimited customer lookups, only orders count
  • Product recommendations and discount upsells on the tracking page
  • API, webhooks and Klaviyo from Professional
+Pros
  • ✓5.0 from 3,200+ Shopify reviews
  • ✓Cheapest in this ranking between 200 and 2,000 orders
  • ✓Overage at $0.05 instead of a forced plan jump
−Cons
  • ✗Auto-translation of tracking events only on Professional ($59)
  • ✗Delayed syncs reported in recent reviews
  • ✗API locked until Professional
Verdict

The default choice for a Shopify store from the first sale to a few thousand orders a month. Stay on Essential while overage costs you less than the $48 jump to Professional.

Best for SMS, analytics and API

AfterShip

3.7/5

AfterShip is the name most US merchants know. Its Shopify listing claims 1,100+ carriers, a free first import of up to 500 shipments and a 4.6 rating from more than 1,500 reviews. If your agency or developer has set up tracking before, odds are they used AfterShip.

Essentials at $11 a month adds your logo to the tracking page, automatic carrier detection and email plus SMS notifications. That SMS on an entry plan is rare. Premium at $70 puts the tracking page on your own domain and adds AI delivery estimates, the full analytics suite, the API and webhooks. Read that twice: no API or webhooks below Premium.

Volume is where AfterShip gets expensive. Essentials includes only 100 shipments, then $0.08 each, so 500 shipments cost $43. Premium includes 500, which makes it the logical plan there. At 2,000 shipments, Premium climbs to $250 ($70 plus 1,500 shipments at $0.12), four times ParcelPanel Professional.

The one-star reviews repeat the same complaints: features moved to a higher plan, overage that can't be capped before the renewal date, and a hard time canceling. Set a reminder a week before each renewal so you can downgrade in time.

These are Shopify App Store prices. Outside Shopify (WooCommerce, API), AfterShip sells its own plans on its website, which we couldn't read.

Standout features
  • 1,100+ carriers with auto-detection
  • Email and SMS from Essentials
  • Tracking page on your domain with Premium
  • Free first import of up to 500 shipments
+Pros
  • ✓SMS included from $11 a month
  • ✓Full analytics and API on Premium
  • ✓Widely known, easy to hand over to an agency
−Cons
  • ✗Only 100 shipments on Essentials, then $0.08 each
  • ✗API and webhooks only on Premium
  • ✗Reviews report features moving to pricier plans
Verdict

Worth it if you want SMS, analytics and API access in one place and you ship close to 500 parcels a month. Past that, the overage makes ParcelPanel or TrackingMore far cheaper.

Best free plan

17TRACK

3.9/5

Shoppers know 17TRACK as the site where you paste any tracking number. The Shopify app uses the same database: 3,300+ carriers, the widest coverage in this ranking. That matters if you ship internationally or work with overseas suppliers.

The free plan is the most useful here: 50 shipments a month with a branded tracking page. Basic at $9 raises the quota to 200 and adds email notifications and Shopify shipping status updates. Pro at $49 (1,000 shipments) removes the 17TRACK branding, adds multilingual pages and emails and shows an estimated delivery date. Premium at $159 covers 2,000 shipments and adds transit-time and exception analytics.

Watch how the quota ends. The listing shows no overage price: when you hit the cap, syncing pauses until the next cycle, and your last customers of the month see a frozen page. At 500 shipments you have to be on Pro at $49, almost twice ParcelPanel at the same volume.

Standout features
  • 3,300+ carriers
  • Branded tracking page on the free plan
  • Dropshipping mode for supplier shipments
  • PayPal integration
+Pros
  • ✓50 free shipments with a branded page
  • ✓Basic at $9, the lowest paid entry
  • ✓4.9 from 4,500+ Shopify reviews
−Cons
  • ✗Sync pauses at the quota, no overage option
  • ✗17TRACK branding until Pro
  • ✗Price jumps from $9 to $49 between Basic and Pro
Verdict

The best free starting point, especially for cross-border stores. Past 200 shipments a month, compare it with ParcelPanel, where overage costs less than a plan jump.

Cheapest API access

TrackingMore

3.5/5

On paper, TrackingMore mirrors ParcelPanel: 50 free shipments, Basic at $9 for 200 orders, Pro at $55 for 2,000 and $0.05 per extra order. At 500 orders, Basic comes to $24, the lowest bill in this ranking.

Its real edge is for stores that connect their own tools: the vendor site lists API and webhooks from Basic, where AfterShip keeps them for Premium at $70. Basic also adds customizable emails and a tracking page that switches to the customer's language. Pro connects Klaviyo, Gorgias and Slack and handles several stores under one subscription.

Why fourth? The negative reviews weigh more in proportion (4.4 from 376 reviews): slow or stuck syncs, local carriers detected wrong and "delivered" emails sent for parcels that hadn't shipped. A wrong email does more damage than no email. Run it on real orders for a week before you open notifications to everyone.

Standout features
  • API and webhooks from Basic
  • Tracking page in the customer's language
  • Klaviyo, Gorgias and Slack on Pro
+Pros
  • ✓$24 at 500 orders, the cheapest here
  • ✓API access without a premium plan
  • ✓24/7 support listed on every plan
−Cons
  • ✗Reports of slow syncs
  • ✗Local carriers sometimes misdetected
  • ✗Early "delivered" emails reported
Verdict

The best price and the earliest API access, with shakier reliability. Try it on a week of real orders before choosing it over ParcelPanel.

Best if you already ship with it

Sendcloud

3.7/5

Sendcloud is shipping software, not a tracking app: it prints labels and compares carriers, mostly for merchants shipping from Europe. It also tracks parcels, so if you already use it, adding a tracking app may mean paying twice.

From Lite (€35 a month, billed monthly), Sendcloud sends email, SMS and WhatsApp updates in two languages. The branded tracking page with your promotions only arrives on Growth at €109 a month, and full white label and delivery analytics on Premium. The free plan covers 50 labels a month.

Run the math before upgrading. Moving from Lite to Growth for a branded page costs €74 more a month; ParcelPanel Essential does a branded page for $11. Keep Sendcloud's notifications and add a tracking app only if the branded page matters to you. The limit noted on its review page: slow support and weight surcharges that land weeks after shipping.

Standout features
  • Email, SMS and WhatsApp updates from Lite
  • Branded tracking page from Growth
  • Labels, pickup points and returns in one tool
+Pros
  • ✓One tool to ship and track
  • ✓Use your own carrier contract from Lite
  • ✓14-day trial without a card
−Cons
  • ✗Branded page only from Growth at €109 a month
  • ✗Per-label fees on top of the subscription
  • ✗Slow support in reviews
Verdict

If you already print labels with Sendcloud, start with its built-in notifications. Add a tracking app only for a richer branded page.

Shipping and tracking at a flat price

ShippyPro

3.7/5

ShippyPro is shipping software with a tracking module called Track&Trace: a tracking page, emails and WhatsApp notifications, with 100 WhatsApp messages a month included.

Its pull is the flat price. Pro500 is €49 a month for 500 shipments, Pro2000 €159.20 and Pro4000 €207.20 for 4,000, with no per-label fee. At 4,000 shipments that is about 5 cents per parcel, labels and tracking included.

Two conditions first. Public prices are billed yearly, so you commit for twelve months. And ShippyPro doesn't resell postage: you bring your own carrier account. For a new store that's too much. For a multichannel seller shipping thousands of parcels, it is often the lowest cost per parcel.

Standout features
  • Track&Trace page and emails
  • 100 WhatsApp notifications a month included
  • 80+ sales channels listed
+Pros
  • ✓Flat price, no per-label fee
  • ✓Shipping and tracking in one subscription
  • ✓Support rated adequate in reviews
−Cons
  • ✗Yearly commitment on public prices
  • ✗Your own carrier account required
  • ✗Too heavy for a small store
Verdict

Worth a look if you're changing shipping software and want tracking in the same plan. For tracking alone, a Shopify app costs less.

Best for proactive customer support

Shipup

3.6/5

Shipup is a French post-purchase platform founded in 2016. It doesn't chase volume; it targets brands that care about the delivery experience: a branded tracking page, email and SMS, and above all delay alerts that warn your support team when a parcel is late or stuck.

That last part sets it apart. Most apps notify the customer; Shipup also notifies your team and plugs into Gorgias or Zendesk, where tickets land. Your agents see the problem before the angry email.

On the Shopify App Store it is $75 a month with a 14-day trial. The listing shows no order quota, so ask before you commit. The listing also covers returns and exchanges. The weak spot is proof: only 9 public reviews (4.9), all from 2017, too few and too old to judge reliability today. For a new store, $75 from month one is almost seven times ParcelPanel Essential.

Standout features
  • Delay and exception alerts for your support team
  • Gorgias and Zendesk integrations
  • Branded tracking page and SMS
+Pros
  • ✓Built to cut support tickets
  • ✓Branded page, SMS and delay alerts in one plan
  • ✓14-day trial
−Cons
  • ✗$75 a month from day one, no free plan
  • ✗No order quota on the Shopify listing
  • ✗Only 9 App Store reviews, all from 2017
Verdict

The right pick for a brand with a real support team that wants to handle delays before tickets pile up. Too expensive for a store that's just starting.

Best free option for WooCommerce

Advanced Shipment Tracking

3.6/5

Advanced Shipment Tracking, by zorem, is one of the most installed tracking plugins for WooCommerce: 70,000+ active installs and 4.5 from 355 reviews. It is free and open source.

It covers the essentials. You add a tracking number to each order by hand, by CSV import or through the WooCommerce REST API, and your customer gets an email with a link to the carrier's tracking. More than 1,000 carriers are in its list.

The limit is clear: the free version doesn't fetch carrier updates itself. Automatic tracking, step-by-step notifications and a branded page need a separate paid add-on from the same vendor, which we didn't rank. With the free plugin, your customer clicks through to the carrier's page. Under 100 orders a month, that's often enough.

Standout features
  • Tracking number in WooCommerce emails
  • CSV import of tracking numbers
  • 1,000+ carriers listed
+Pros
  • ✓Free with no order quota
  • ✓70,000+ active installs
  • ✓Open-source code
−Cons
  • ✗No automatic tracking in the free version
  • ✗No branded page without a paid add-on
  • ✗No step-by-step notifications
Verdict

The baseline install for any WooCommerce store. For a branded page and alerts at each step, plan for a paid add-on.

Cost at your volume

What tracking really costs you

An entry price means nothing until you apply it to your order volume. Here is the math from the official grids, on monthly billing, without trials or first-month promos.

At 500 orders a month

TrackingMore Basic comes to $24 ($9 plus 300 orders at $0.05), ParcelPanel Essential to $26, AfterShip Essentials to $43 ($11 plus 400 shipments at $0.08), 17TRACK Pro to $49 because its quota can't be exceeded, and Shipup to $75.

At 2,000 orders a month

TrackingMore Pro costs $55 and ParcelPanel Professional $59, both with 2,000 orders included. 17TRACK Premium is $159. AfterShip Premium climbs to $250 ($70 plus 1,500 shipments at $0.12).

If you already have shipping software

Sendcloud Lite already sends email, SMS and WhatsApp updates. ShippyPro includes a tracking page and 100 WhatsApp messages. A separate tracking app only pays off for a richer branded page.

Annual billing

Every Shopify app here except Shipup offers yearly billing, 16% to 21% cheaper: $108 instead of $132 for ParcelPanel Essential. Run one real month before you prepay a year.

  • Count shipped orders per month, not page visits
  • Check whether overage is billed or syncing stops
  • Find which plan removes the vendor's branding
  • Search your carriers in the app's list before installing
  • Put the renewal date in your calendar if overage is billed
Pitfalls and tips

Six things to fix before your first customer

Tracking apps rarely fail at install. They fail the day syncing stops at month-end, an email lands in spam or a customer gets "delivered" for a parcel still in your warehouse. Here is what merchant reviews report most, with the fix.

01

Paying for an app while Shopify is still enough

Save money

Shopify already has an order status page you can customize in the theme editor, and a shipping confirmation email with the tracking link. The {{ order_status_url }} variable drops it into any email template. Under 20 to 50 orders a month, that is often enough.

The tip: start native, then move to the free plan of ParcelPanel or 17TRACK when WISMO tickets become a real chore.

Cost
Included in Shopify
When to switch
From 20 to 50 orders a month
02

Not knowing what happens at the quota

Most expensive

Two models clash. ParcelPanel, TrackingMore and AfterShip bill every extra order ($0.05 to $0.12). 17TRACK pauses syncing. In the first case the bill grows; in the second your customers see a frozen page.

The tip: check that unfulfilled, canceled or marketplace orders don't eat your quota, and look at usage around the 20th of each cycle.

Overage
$0.05 to $0.12 per order
17TRACK

03

Sending tracking emails from the app's address

Invisible

Merchants report tracking emails landing in spam. The customer never sees them and opens a ticket anyway.

The tip: send from your own domain when the app allows it, or let Shopify or Klaviyo send the email with the app's tracking link. Place a dummy order and check Gmail and Outlook.

Check
One order to Gmail and Outlook
04

Picking a plan before checking API access

Hidden cost

If you want tracking events in your helpdesk or ERP, the plan matters more than the price. TrackingMore lists API and webhooks from Basic at $9, ParcelPanel from Professional at $59, AfterShip only on Premium at $70.

The tip: list the tools that need tracking data (Gorgias, Klaviyo, your ERP) before choosing, then pick the cheapest plan that reaches them.

AfterShip
From $70
05

Leaving the vendor's logo on your page

Brand

Free and entry plans often show the vendor's name on your tracking page. 17TRACK removes it on Pro at $49, ParcelPanel on Professional at $59.

The tip: if branding is the only reason to upgrade, compare that jump with another app's entry plan. AfterShip Essentials shows your own logo for $11.

06

Turning on notifications before checking your carriers

Most serious

Reviews describe "delivered" emails sent for parcels that hadn't shipped, or a regional carrier detected as another one. A customer told "delivered" with no parcel opens a dispute, sometimes with their bank.

The tip: for one week, turn on the tracking page only. Compare ten tracking histories with the carrier's site, then switch on emails. Fix any misdetected carrier by hand in the app.

Package tracking software FAQ

  • Is there free package tracking software?

Yes. 17TRACK, TrackingMore and AfterShip each give 50 shipments a month for free, ParcelPanel 20 orders, and Advanced Shipment Tracking is free on WooCommerce with no quota. 17TRACK is the most complete, with a branded tracking page on the free plan (17TRACK's name stays on it).

  • Do I need a tracking app if Shopify already has an order status page?

Not at first. Shopify's order status page and shipping email are enough while tickets stay low. An app pays off when you want a branded page with product recommendations, emails at each step or SMS.

  • What is the best AfterShip alternative?

ParcelPanel for most Shopify stores: same idea, 200 orders for $11 and $0.05 overage, versus 100 shipments and $0.08 on AfterShip Essentials. If you need the API cheaply, TrackingMore opens it from $9, where AfterShip asks $70.

  • How do I reduce "where is my order?" tickets?

Send the tracking link as soon as the order ships, then a message at each key step: picked up, out for delivery, delivered. Show an estimated delivery date on the tracking page. Proactive delay alerts, like Shipup's, let support reach out before the customer does.

  • How do I send SMS tracking updates?

AfterShip includes SMS from Essentials at $11 a month, Sendcloud from Lite and Shipup in its subscription. Before switching SMS on, make the phone number required at checkout: no number, no text.

  • Which plan gives me API and webhook access?

TrackingMore from Basic at $9, ParcelPanel from Professional at $59 and AfterShip only on Premium at $70. If you want tracking events in your helpdesk or ERP, this changes the ranking.

  • Tracking app or shipping software: which do I need?

Shipping software prints labels and tracks parcels; a tracking app only tracks, but with better pages and notifications. If you already print labels in Shopify or on the carrier's site, a tracking app is enough.

  • What is the best tracking plugin for WooCommerce?

Start with Advanced Shipment Tracking, free, which adds the tracking number to WooCommerce order emails. Automatic status updates and a branded page need a paid add-on on top.
