What is the best shipping software in 2026?

Five shipping platforms compared on what a parcel really costs you, and what happens when a carrier re-weighs your box.

The short answer: if you sell on several channels, pick ShipStation. It connects unlimited stores, starts at $14.99 a month and charges no per-label fee. If you run one small shop, Shippo is free for 30 labels a month with discounted multi-carrier rates. If you only ship USPS and UPS, Pirate Ship costs nothing at all. Selling mostly on Amazon? Veeqo has a free shipping plan. And if you ship from Europe or the UK, Sendcloud has the widest carrier network.

Shipping software pulls orders from your store, compares carrier rates, prints labels in batches, sends tracking and handles returns. Most of the top Google results are written by vendors who rank themselves first. We compared all five tools on their official pricing pages, then read seller reviews, starting with the worst ones.

How we compared

How we compared and scored

We started from a seller's question: which tool gets my parcels out fast without a bigger bill next month? For each tool, we read the official pricing page, the plans, the per-label fees and the carriers offered. A tool with no readable official price did not make the ranking: Easyship's pricing page shows no amounts online, so it is out.

Then we read recent seller reviews on review sites and app stores, starting with the negative ones. They are where weight adjustments, lost-parcel disputes and broken integrations show up. Scores use the same five-criteria grid as our review pages, equally weighted, so a tool keeps the same score from one page to the next. Shippo and Sendcloud already have review pages, and their scores come from there.

Best all-rounder for multichannel sellers

ShipStation

3.9/5

ShipStation is the tool most US multichannel sellers end up on, and the reason is integrations. Every plan connects unlimited stores and marketplaces, compares carrier rates automatically and prints return labels. Standard adds the parts a growing shop actually needs: unlimited automation rules, your own carrier accounts, order splitting, a shipping API and phone support.

Pricing scales with shipments, not labels. Starter is $14.99 a month for 50 shipments and $39.99 for 500. Standard starts at $29.99 for 50 and reaches $89.99 at 500. There is no per-label fee on top, a 30-day trial with no card, and annual billing takes 20% off.

Here is the catch most reviews skip. The plan tiers move fast: at 1,000 shipments, Standard is $149.99 a month, and a busy holiday month can push you into the next tier. Support gets the weakest marks in user reviews, and Starter is email only. If you ship 40 USPS parcels a month from one Etsy shop, you are paying for features you will not use.

Standout features
  • Unlimited store and marketplace connections
  • Rate shopping across carriers on every plan
  • Shipping API and phone support from Standard
+Pros
  • ✓Deepest integration list in this ranking
  • ✓No per-label fees
  • ✓30-day free trial without a card
−Cons
  • ✗Tiers climb quickly with volume
  • ✗Starter is email support only
  • ✗Overkill for a single small shop
Verdict

The default pick once you sell on two or more channels and need automation rules. Size your plan on your busiest month, not your average.

Best for small shops that want multi-carrier rates

Shippo

3.8/5

Shippo is the easiest way for a small shop to get multi-carrier shipping. The free Starter plan covers 30 labels a month with discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL Express rates, and you can print a first label in about five minutes. It connects to Shopify, WooCommerce, Etsy and eBay.

Watch one detail on the free plan: labels printed with your own carrier accounts cost $0.05 each. Pro removes that fee and runs from $17 a month for 1 to 200 labels, $29 up to 500 and $54 up to 1,000, then $199 for 5,001 to 10,000. Annual billing takes 10% off.

The weak spot is the relationship around the product. Support on the free plan is email only, and reviews describe weight-adjustment charges weeks later and slow insurance claims, which run through a third party. Keep your scale readings and dimensions for every parcel.

Standout features
  • Free plan with 30 labels a month
  • Pro priced by label volume
  • Separate API track for developers
+Pros
  • ✓Fastest setup in this ranking
  • ✓Clear volume-based pricing
  • ✓Good discounts for a small shipper
−Cons
  • ✗$0.05 per own-carrier label on the free plan
  • ✗Email-only support on Starter
  • ✗Insurance claims handled by a third party
Verdict

The best start for a small shop that wants several carriers without a learning curve. Move to Pro once you use your own carrier account.

3
Best free option for USPS and UPS

Pirate Ship

3.7/5

Pirate Ship costs nothing. No monthly fee, no markup on postage, no payment fee: the carriers pay it, not you. It gives you discounted USPS and UPS rates, and the company claims savings of up to 89% off retail. For a seller shipping a few dozen parcels a month from home, nothing else in this ranking beats that.

The limits are just as clear. It only handles USPS and UPS, and the UPS discounts only apply to shipments that start in the United States. Comparisons point out that it does not connect to big marketplaces like Amazon or Walmart the way ShipStation does, so multichannel sellers end up copying orders by hand.

Our advice: start here if you sell on one platform and ship domestic. The day you add a second channel or need FedEx, move to Shippo or ShipStation.

Standout features
  • No software cost of any kind
  • Discounted USPS and UPS rates
  • Simple batch label printing
+Pros
  • ✓Truly free
  • ✓Very simple interface
  • ✓Well liked by small sellers
−Cons
  • ✗USPS and UPS only
  • ✗UPS discounts limited to US-origin shipments
  • ✗Thin marketplace integrations
Verdict

The cheapest way to ship USPS and UPS from one store. Outgrow it the day you sell on several channels.

4
Best free option for Amazon sellers

Veeqo

3.7/5

Veeqo belongs to Amazon, and that shapes everything. The Shipping plan is free with unlimited orders, users and warehouses. You get pre-negotiated rates with Amazon Shipping, UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL and OnTrac, bulk shipping of up to 100 orders in one click, and up to 5% back in Veeqo credits. It also connects Shopify, eBay, Walmart and WooCommerce.

How is it free? Veeqo takes a small commission on the labels you buy through it. Inventory sync and forecasting move to the paid Inventory plan, from $19 a month depending on order volume.

The limit: it is built around Amazon, and support is the weakest point in reviews. If Amazon is a minor channel for you, ShipStation or Shippo will fit better.

Standout features
  • Free plan with unlimited orders and users
  • Amazon Shipping rates built in
  • Up to 5% back in credits
+Pros
  • ✓Free multi-carrier labels
  • ✓Strong Amazon workflow
  • ✓Inventory tools when you need them
−Cons
  • ✗Built around Amazon first
  • ✗Support is slow in reviews
  • ✗Inventory features cost extra
Verdict

If most of your orders come from Amazon, start with Veeqo's free plan. Otherwise it is the wrong center of gravity.

Best for shipping from Europe

Sendcloud

3.7/5

If you ship from Europe or the UK, Sendcloud is the tool to beat. It connects 160+ carriers, shows pickup points at checkout, sends branded tracking and runs a self-service returns portal. From Lite, you can plug in your own carrier contract.

It bills twice, and that is where you need to do the math. On monthly billing, Lite is €35 a month plus €0.12 per label, with 400 labels included and €0.15 extra for each label past that. At 300 parcels, that is about €71 a month before postage. Annual billing takes 25% off the subscription.

Reviews flag the same two things: slow support and carrier surcharges that land on the invoice weeks later. If you ship mostly inside the US, it is not the right tool.

Standout features
  • 160+ European carriers
  • Returns portal and branded tracking from Growth
  • Own carrier contract from Lite
+Pros
  • ✓Broadest European carrier network here
  • ✓Free plan to start
  • ✓Per-label fees shown publicly
−Cons
  • ✗Subscription plus per-label fees
  • ✗Slow support in reviews
  • ✗Late carrier surcharges
Verdict

The pick for a European or UK store. Model your cost per parcel, label fees included, before choosing a plan.

Real cost

What a shipped parcel really costs you

The software price is one of three lines on your bill. The other two are postage and, sometimes, a weight adjustment that arrives weeks later. Here is how to read each pricing model.

Priced by shipments

ShipStation charges by monthly shipments, with no per-label fee. Starter is $14.99 for 50 shipments and $39.99 for 500. Simple to budget, but tiers jump quickly past 1,000.

Priced by labels

Shippo Pro runs from $17 a month for 1 to 200 labels to $199 for 5,001 to 10,000. Past 10,000, each extra label costs $0.08.

Free with a catch

Pirate Ship is paid by the carriers. Veeqo takes a commission on labels. Shippo's free plan charges $0.05 per own-carrier label. Free software still has a business model.

Subscription plus label fee

Sendcloud bills a subscription and €0.12 to €0.08 per label, plus €0.15 past the included volume. At 300 parcels on Lite, that is about €71 a month.

Weight adjustments

Carriers bill the weight you declare, then correct it to actual or dimensional weight. The difference lands on your account, sometimes weeks after the parcel shipped.

The math to do

Software fee, plus per-label fees times parcels, plus postage, divided by parcels. Compare that cost per parcel, never the subscription alone.

  • Pull your real shipment count for the last three months
  • Check whether you can bring your own carrier accounts
  • Work out cost per parcel, fees included
  • Weigh and measure every box before buying the label
  • Review your invoice every month for adjustments
The traps

Six traps that inflate your shipping bill

Shipping software rarely fails on the label itself. It fails on a late surcharge, a lost parcel with nobody to call, or a plan sized wrong. These are the six problems sellers raise most in reviews, with the fix.

01

Letting the carrier re-weigh your parcel

Most common

It is the top complaint across Shippo, Sendcloud and courier-style platforms: an adjustment arrives after a carrier audit, sometimes weeks later.

The fix: weigh every parcel on a scale, measure the box, declare dimensional weight when it is higher, and keep a photo of the parcel on the scale for disputes.

Typical delay
Several weeks
Proof to keep
Photo, dimensions
02

Using your own carrier account on a free plan

Shippo's free plan charges $0.05 for each label printed on your own UPS or FedEx account. At 1,000 labels, that is $50 a month, more than the $17 Pro plan.

The fix: move to Pro as soon as you connect your own carrier account.

Fee
$0.05 per label
03

Sizing your plan on an average month

Most hidden

ShipStation Standard is $89.99 at 500 shipments and $149.99 at 1,000. A holiday month can push you into the next tier, and Sendcloud charges €0.15 extra per label past your included volume.

The fix: size your plan on your busiest month and check the overage rules before you sign up.

ShipStation 500 → 1,000
$89.99 → $149.99
04

Assuming the platform handles your claim

Longest

Insurance claims often run through a third party, and reviews describe slow answers and requests for extra paperwork.

The fix: insure high-value parcels, keep the sales invoice and drop-off proof, and file claims on day one.

Keep
Invoice, drop-off proof
05

Letting customs values fill themselves

For international shipments, the declared value comes from the order. One Sendcloud user reports a declared value of about $9,000 by mistake, with duties charged to their customer.

The fix: check the commercial invoice on your first international shipments, then set one rule per country.

International parcels
06

Picking a tool that skips your marketplace

Pirate Ship is free, but comparisons note it does not connect Amazon or Walmart like ShipStation does. Copying orders by hand costs more time than the software saves.

The fix: list every channel you sell on and confirm each one is a native integration before you switch.

Shipping software FAQ

  • What is the best shipping software for a small business?

Shippo for most small shops: free for 30 labels a month with discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL rates, then Pro from $17 a month. If you only ship USPS and UPS from one store, Pirate Ship is free with no label fee.

  • Is there free shipping software?

Yes. Pirate Ship has no fees at all, Veeqo's Shipping plan is free, and Shippo is free up to 30 labels a month. They make money from carriers or label commissions, so check how each one is paid before you commit.

  • Is ShipStation worth it compared with Shippo?

ShipStation is worth it when you sell on several channels and need automation rules, since every plan connects unlimited stores. Shippo is cheaper and simpler for one or two stores. At 500 shipments, ShipStation Standard is $89.99 a month; Shippo Pro is $29.

  • Can I use my own UPS or FedEx account?

Yes with ShipStation (from Standard), Shippo and Sendcloud. On Shippo's free plan, each own-account label costs $0.05; on Pro it is free. Pirate Ship works only with its own USPS and UPS rates.

  • How do I avoid weight adjustment charges?

Weigh and measure every parcel, use saved box sizes in your software, and declare dimensional weight when it is higher than actual weight. Keep a photo of the parcel on the scale so you can dispute an adjustment.

  • What is the best shipping software for Amazon sellers?

Veeqo, if Amazon is your main channel: its Shipping plan is free, includes Amazon Shipping rates and connects Shopify, eBay and Walmart too. ShipStation is the better pick if Amazon is one channel among many.

  • How much does shipping software cost per month?

From $0 to a few hundred dollars depending on volume. For 300 parcels a month, expect $0 on Pirate Ship or Veeqo, $29 on Shippo Pro and $39.99 on ShipStation Starter, before postage.

  • Do I need shipping software if my store already prints labels?

Not at first. Built-in store labels work for one channel and one carrier. Shipping software pays off once you compare carriers, batch-print across channels, or want branded tracking and returns.
