Copy.ai alternatives: where to go now that the product changed direction
Copy.ai now sells to sales teams. Here is where writers go instead, and how to leave cleanly.
The short answer: Claude for the best writing at $20 a month, ChatGPT if your team already pays for it, Jasper or Writer if you want to stay on a marketing tool with managed brand voices, Anyword for ad copy, Writesonic for SEO and AI search visibility, Gemini for Google Workspace teams, and Le Chat for a European vendor with a usable free plan. Two things before you pick. Copy.ai documents no export for your chats or brand voice. And the full refund window is five calendar days after your first purchase. Each of the eight was compared on brand voice, seats and price, with 2026 pricing read on vendor pages.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
Why Copy.ai users are shopping around
For years Copy.ai was the go-to writing assistant for freelancers and small marketing teams: a LinkedIn post, a product description, a cold email in two minutes. The reasons people leave in 2026 fit in six cards, and the first one has nothing to do with output quality.
It's becoming a sales platform
In 2025 Fullcast, a Salt Lake City company that sells revenue operations software, acquired Copy.ai. The announcement calls the combination the "first end-to-end AI-native RevOps platform" and introduces "Fullcast Propel (powered by Copy.ai)". New features ship "in phases". Nothing is said about the standalone writing product or its pricing, and the help center now lives on Fullcast's domain.
Nothing between $29 and $1,000
The price page has one plan for small teams, Chat at $29 a month ($24 billed annually), and then Growth at $1,000 a month. Growth is built for 75 seats and 20,000 workflow credits a month. If your team outgrows five seats or you need API access, the next step is a different order of magnitude.
No free plan on the grid
The 2026 pricing page shows no free tier, just a "Try for free" button with no stated limits. A freelancer who drafted a few posts a week for nothing now has to pay or move.
Five-day refunds, automatic annual renewals
The terms of service allow a full refund within five calendar days of your initial purchase, and that's it. Annual plans renew automatically on the anniversary date, with a reminder sent 30 to 60 days before. Partial periods aren't refunded. On review sites, complaints about charges after cancellation come up again and again.
Support that goes quiet
Copy.ai sits below 2 out of 5 on Trustpilot across fewer than 200 reviews, with no replies to negative ones. The pattern repeats: support tickets unanswered for weeks, disputed charges, work lost after an update. The sample is small and partly old, so read it as a trend, not a measurement.
Copy that reads like AI
Reviewers like Copy.ai for first drafts and short copy. The recurring complaint is tone: output that's easy to spot as AI-generated, and a voice that drifts off brand. One reviewer moved to ChatGPT for exactly that reason. Workflow credit consumption is also hard to predict, according to several users.

Copy.ai alternatives, tool by tool

The tools
Claude: the strongest writer, without a marketing wrapper
Our default pickWhy switch to it. Copy.ai always ran on other companies' models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini). Claude is Anthropic's model, first-hand, and its long-form writing needs fewer edits than most. Projects hold your instructions and reference docs; custom Styles learn a tone from samples of your own writing. Together they cover what Copy.ai's brand settings did.
Who it's for. Freelancers and small teams writing articles, newsletters and posts who care about the draft more than the template library.
Who it's not for. Teams that want dozens of fill-in-the-blank templates. Claude starts from a blank prompt.
The catch. Pro has usage caps, so a heavy batch day can hit a wait. Five people means five seats ($85 a month billed annually) where Copy.ai Chat covered five for $24.
How to move from Copy.ai. Paste your brand voice rules and three of your best published pieces into a Project's instructions, then upload your best prompts as a text file. Our Claude review covers the limits in detail.

ChatGPT: the assistant your team probably pays for already
Most commonWhy switch to it. If the company already has ChatGPT seats for meeting notes and spreadsheets, paying Copy.ai on top for posts is a duplicate line item. Custom GPTs and Projects let you save a tone guide and examples, and Go starts at $8 a month.
Who it's for. Teams that want one assistant for everything, and freelancers on a tight budget.
Who it's not for. Anyone who needs copy that doesn't sound like ChatGPT. The default voice is recognizable, so you have to steer it.
The catch. Plus is $20 a month per person, and Business is billed per seat ($20 to $25). There's no marketing template library like Copy.ai's.
How to move from Copy.ai. Build one custom GPT per job (social posts, emails, product pages), paste your brand voice into its instructions and attach examples. Our ChatGPT review compares the plans.

Jasper: stay on a marketing platform, pay per seat
Brand voiceWhy switch to it. Jasper is Copy.ai's oldest rival on the same turf: marketing templates, brand voices, campaigns. Unlike Copy.ai, it hasn't pivoted to sales. Pro includes two brand voices.
Who it's for. A marketing team that wants managed brand voices and ready-made templates, and has the budget.
Who it's not for. A five-person team that shared one Copy.ai plan. Jasper Pro is one seat.
The catch. Pro is $69 per seat monthly or $59 with a 12-month commitment paid upfront. Beyond one seat, Business is quote-only on a 12-month term.
How to move from Copy.ai. Use the 7-day trial to rebuild your voice from samples and rules, then run the same three briefs through both tools. Our Jasper alternatives page shows the view from the other side.

- Pro $59/seat/mo annually
- Monthly
- $69/seat/mo
- Trial
- 7 days
- Catch
- 1 seat on Pro
Writer: shared brand rules for a small team
TeamsWhy switch to it. Writer is built to make a whole team write with the same rules: tone, terminology, banned words. That's the brand governance Copy.ai pitched, without the sales detour.
Who it's for. Small marketing teams and agencies where three or four people need to sound like one brand.
Who it's not for. A solo writer. At $29 a seat it's a lot for one person.
The catch. Starter is $29 per seat per month billed annually, $39 monthly. The plan goes up to 5 users; above that, it's enterprise pricing.
How to move from Copy.ai. Start the 14-day trial (no card) and set up your style rules on day one, including the phrases your brand never uses.
- Paid
- Starter $29/seat/mo annually
- Monthly
- $39/seat/mo
- Trial
- 14 days, no card
- Catch
- overkill for one writer
Anyword: for ads and copy that has to convert
Ad copyWhy switch to it. If you mainly used Copy.ai for ad hooks and campaign emails, Anyword is sharper on that job. Every variant gets a predictive performance score before you publish it.
Who it's for. Performance marketers and e-commerce teams spinning up lots of ad variations.
Who it's not for. Long-form writers. Articles aren't where it shines.
The catch. Starter ($49 monthly, $39 annually) covers one seat and one brand voice. Data-Driven ($99, or $79 annually) moves to three seats, up to ten with extra seats.
How to move from Copy.ai. The 7-day trial caps you at 2,500 words. Spend it on your three most important ads, not on random prompts.
- Paid
- Starter $39/mo annually
- Monthly
- $49/mo
- Trial
- 7 days, 2,500 words
- Catch
- 1 brand voice on Starter
Writesonic: if your copy is really about search
SEOWhy switch to it. Writesonic now focuses on visibility in search and AI answers (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews), with AI article generation on top. If your Copy.ai use was mostly blog content meant to rank, it's a closer fit than a chat assistant.
Who it's for. Content marketers and SEO leads who measure success in rankings and AI citations.
Who it's not for. Anyone who just needs social posts and emails. You'd pay for a search toolkit you won't use.
The catch. Starter is $79 a month billed annually for one user and 15 AI articles a month; Basic is $199 and Growth $399. Monthly prices aren't shown on the pricing page.
How to move from Copy.ai. Rebuild your brand voice, then regenerate one old Copy.ai article to compare. Our Writesonic alternatives page covers its own trade-offs.

Gemini: the cheapest upgrade for Google Workspace teams
Google WorkspaceWhy switch to it. If your drafts end up in Google Docs and Gmail anyway, Gemini writes where you already work. Saved instructions keep your tone consistent, and AI Plus starts at $4.99 a month.
Who it's for. Teams that run on Google Workspace and want writing help inside Docs and Gmail.
Who it's not for. Teams on Microsoft 365 or Notion. The Google integration is the whole point.
The catch. There are few ready-made marketing templates, and long-form copy needs more steering than Claude. AI Pro is $19.99 a month.
How to move from Copy.ai. Save your brand voice as instructions, keep your example pieces in a Docs folder, and point Gemini at them. Our Gemini review scores it 4.0/5.

- AI Plus $4.99/mo

- AI Pro $19.99/mo

Le Chat: the Paris-built assistant with a free tier you can work with
EuropeanWhy switch to it. Mistral AI is based in Paris. If your legal team is uneasy about a US writing tool acquired by another US company, a European vendor is the simplest answer. There's a free plan, and Pro stays under $15 a month.
Who it's for. Freelancers and EU-facing teams that want a general assistant, plus students at $5.99 a month.
Who it's not for. Marketing teams that want templates out of the box.
The catch. Long marketing copy needs a bit more editing than Claude's. The value is in price and vendor location.
How to move from Copy.ai. Store your brand voice and samples in a library, then set up an agent that reads it on every request. Team is $24.99 per user per month.

The 8 alternatives at a glance
The honest math first: for a five-person team, Copy.ai Chat is still the cheapest per seat, $24 a month billed annually for five seats. Claude Pro for the same team is $85, ChatGPT Plus $100, Jasper is quote-only beyond one seat (Pro covers a single person). So leaving only pays off if one of the reasons above actually hits you. The table shows how each tool keeps your brand voice and its entry price.

| Copy.aiWhere you're leaving | Brand settings, no documented export | Chat $29/mo ($24 annually) for 5 seats, then Growth $1,000 |

Leave Copy.ai in seven steps
Order matters: save what's valuable first, cancel last. Canceling early buys you nothing, since access runs to the end of the period you paid for.
The steps
Find your renewal date and billing cycle
Day 1Check billing: monthly or annual? If your first purchase was less than five calendar days ago, request the full refund now. After that window, there isn't one. On an annual plan, look for the reminder email sent 30 to 60 days before renewal.
Put the date in your calendar with an alert a week earlier.
- Refund window
- 5 days after first purchase
- Annual reminder
- 30 to 60 days ahead
Copy your brand voice out by hand
CriticalNo brand voice export is documented. Open each voice, copy its rules and sample text into your own doc, and add three published pieces that really sound like you. Those samples will train your voice in any destination.
- Export
- none documented
- Time
- about an hour per voice
Save your prompts and best chats
Chats don't have a documented export either. Copy the prompts that work into a text file, one per use case. Two years of tuned prompts are worth more than the old drafts you already published.
- Format
- one text file per use case
Ask support for a workspace export
Email support@copy.ai and ask for an export of your workspace. Don't count on a fast reply: do this alongside steps 2 and 3, not instead of them. Keep the email.
- Contact
- support@copy.ai
Delete sensitive content yourself
The terms grant Copy.ai a license to content you put in, and that license survives termination. Before you leave, delete internal docs, client data and numbers you pasted in.
- Delete
- internal docs, client data
Run the new tool in parallel for a week
Rebuild your voice in the destination, then produce one week of content in both tools. Compare three real pieces: a post, an email, a product page. Copy.ai workflows stay viewable after cancellation but no longer run, so rebuild the ones you relied on.
- Duration
- one week
- Workflows
- viewable, not runnable
Cancel in writing and keep proof
Last dayCancel from billing settings or by emailing cancel@copy.ai. Access runs to the end of the paid period, then the account drops to the free tier. Keep the confirmation and check your card statement the next month: charges after cancellation are a common complaint.
- cancel@copy.ai
- Takes effect
- end of paid period

What goes wrong when people leave Copy.ai
Leaving a writing assistant looks easy: no contact list, no database. The mistakes come from elsewhere, and they repeat from one user to the next.
Canceling before you've copied anything
Canceling early saves nothing, but your voices and chats can become harder to reach once the account changes tier. Copy first, cancel second.
Missing the renewal window
Annual plans renew once a year, and the reminder email can land two months ahead in a promotions tab. Miss it and you've bought another year. Add the date to your calendar today.
Comparing seat prices to a team plan
Copy.ai Chat covers five seats for one price; most alternatives bill per person. Work out the total for your team, not the sticker price.
Expecting a new tool to fix your tone
Generic output usually comes from generic prompts. Without your samples and rules, Claude or ChatGPT will sound just as flat. Step 2 matters more than which tool you pick.
Forgetting what depended on Copy.ai
A HubSpot integration, a Zapier zap or a workflow that wrote outreach emails stops at cancellation. List them and replace them. For rewriting and editing, also look at QuillBot, Grammarly alternatives and Wordtune alternatives, or humanizers from European vendors.
Picking a tool that's pivoting too
Copy.ai isn't the only one changing course. Rytr, known as a $9 writer, now calls itself an AI relationship manager and follow-up assistant, and Writesonic leans into AI search visibility. Before you commit to a year, read the vendor's homepage: who is it talking to?
- Renewal date noted, refund requested if the purchase is under 5 days old
- Brand voice copied out with three sample pieces
- Working prompts saved to a text file
- Export requested from support@copy.ai, email kept
- Sensitive content deleted from the workspace
- One week of content compared in the new tool
- Integrations and workflows replaced
- Cancellation in writing, confirmation kept, next statement checked
Copy.ai alternatives: frequently asked questions
What happened to Copy.ai's free plan?
It's no longer on the pricing grid in 2026: the first plan is Chat at $29 a month. Fullcast's help center still mentions dropping to a free tier after cancellation, without listing its limits. For a free plan you can actually use, look at Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Le Chat.
What is Fullcast doing with Copy.ai?
Folding it into its revenue operations platform as "Fullcast Propel (powered by Copy.ai)". The 2025 announcement promises features in phases and says nothing about the standalone writing product. Chat still exists in 2026, but the roadmap clearly points at sales automation.
What is the best free Copy.ai alternative?
Claude if writing quality comes first, ChatGPT if you want the most features on the free tier, Le Chat if you want a European vendor. All three cap free usage. Our ranking of AI assistants compares them in depth.
Is Copy.ai still worth it in 2026?
For a team of up to five that needs short marketing copy, yes: $24 a month billed annually for five seats is hard to beat. For a solo writer, Claude or ChatGPT at about $20 gives better long-form output. For anything bigger, the jump to $1,000 a month is the deal breaker.
Jasper vs Copy.ai: which one should you pick?
Copy.ai if you want five seats for $29 a month and don't mind the sales pivot. Jasper if you want a tool that's still built for marketers, at $59 per seat annually. Our Jasper alternatives page covers the reverse move.
How do I cancel Copy.ai and get a refund?
Cancel in billing settings or email cancel@copy.ai; access lasts until the end of the paid period. A full refund is only available within five calendar days of your first purchase. Partial periods, monthly or annual, aren't refunded.
Can I export my brand voice and content from Copy.ai?
Not in one click. No export is documented for chats, brand voices or Infobase. Copy them out manually and request an export from support. Workflows remain viewable after cancellation, which gives you time to rebuild them.
Which Copy.ai alternative is best for SEO content?
Writesonic, if rankings and AI citations are the goal: it's built around search visibility, from $79 a month billed annually. For on-page optimization, our Surfer review covers a dedicated tool.
