Fieldwire alternative: where to go, and how to get your sheets and tasks out
Five destinations, one per reason to leave, plus a step-by-step exit before your paid plan ends.
Short answer: PlanRadar if you still want punch lists on drawings but pay for too many sub seats (subs are free there). JobTread if what you're missing is estimating and job costing. Contractor Foreman if you want the cheapest all-in-one. Kraaft if your crews won't open an app. Whatever you pick, export before you cancel: Fieldwire's export needs a paid plan.
Our ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
Why contractors leave Fieldwire
Fieldwire is a good product. Its mobile apps rate highly, support gets praise, and it works offline. Hilti bought it in 2021. People leave over pricing and scope. These six reasons come up most in reviews and contractor forums.
Every guest is a paid seat
Fieldwire bills per user. On a paid project, the sub, the architect or the owner who needs to work in the app needs a license. One Reddit user put it this way: "They charge on a per user basis, every viewer (subs, outside architects, owner) require a paid user".
PM features live on the top plan
RFIs, submittals, change orders and budget are only in Business Plus, at $89 per user per month. Custom forms and integrations need Business at $64. Pro at $39 is a drawings-and-tasks tool.
A legacy price you can lose
In 2022 Fieldwire raised new Pro, Business and Premier subscriptions by $10 per license per month. Existing customers kept their price, but any change (monthly to annual, Pro to Business) moves you to current pricing.
No estimates, invoices or job costing
Fieldwire is a field tool, not a business system. You still need a second app for estimates, invoices and costs, and you enter each job twice.
Rigid reporting
Users report too many clicks to generate a report, export formats that are awkward to use, and reports that are hard to customize. Naming sheets one by one is tedious, and big plan sets slow the app down.
Crashes after updates
In an analysis of nearly 500 public reviews, crashes after updates were the second most cited complaint. One user wrote: "New updates cause the app to crash constantly".
You're leaving because… go to…

Fieldwire alternatives, tool by tool
For each tool: why switch, what it costs per its official pricing page, who it fits, the catch, and how to move. None clones Fieldwire; each fixes one reason to leave. Our construction management software ranking widens the list.
The tools
PlanRadar: punch lists on the drawing, subs for free
Closest matchWhy switch to PlanRadar. It is the most direct swap for Fieldwire's punch and defect work: pin an issue on the sheet, add a photo, an owner and a due date, then track it to closed. The big difference is guests. On a paid Fieldwire project, anyone who works in the app needs a paid seat. PlanRadar includes unlimited subcontractors and viewers for free on every package.
What it costs. Basic is $32 per user per month (one user max, 10 sheets), Starter $107 (30 sheets per user), Pro $159 (100 sheets and one BIM model per user). Enterprise is quoted. Paying annually saves a bit over 10%. The trial runs 30 days with no credit card.
Who it's for. GCs, owner's reps and property managers with a small internal team and a long list of outside trades.
Who it's not for. A crew where everyone is in-house: seat for seat, PlanRadar costs more than Fieldwire Pro.
The catch. Sheet limits depend on the plan (10 on Basic). Count the sheets on your biggest job before you pick.
How to move from Fieldwire. Export the "All Plans" folder for each project, upload the sheets, and bring over only the open items from your task CSV. Closed items stay in your archive.

- Subcontractors

- Trial

- Catch
- 10 sheets on Basic
JobTread: when the missing piece is estimates and job costing
Business sideWhy switch to JobTread. Fieldwire is a field tool. It doesn't do estimates, invoices or job costing, so most small contractors run a second system next to it. JobTread puts estimating, scheduling, client updates and financials in one place, at a published price.
What it costs. $199 a month including one user, then $20 per user for users 2 to 10 ($16 per user on annual billing, which takes 20% off). No sales call needed to see the number.
Who it's for. Remodelers and small to mid-size contractors who used Fieldwire mostly for photos and to-dos, and who lose evenings on estimates.
Who it's not for. A commercial super who lives on drawings, sheet compare and punch lists by trade.
The catch. It is lighter than Fieldwire on drawings. Some teams keep Fieldwire's free Basic for one or two plan-heavy jobs.
How to move from Fieldwire. There is little to migrate, since Fieldwire never held your estimates. Start new jobs in JobTread and archive the Fieldwire exports of finished ones.

Contractor Foreman: the cheapest all-in-one entry
Budget pickWhy switch to Contractor Foreman. If $39 per seat on Fieldwire Pro feels steep for a three-person shop, Contractor Foreman starts lower and adds what Fieldwire lacks: scheduling, time cards, estimates and job costing.
What it costs. The entry plan is $49 a month for one user, billed annually, with a 30-day free trial.
Who it's for. Solo contractors and small shops that want one cheap system for the whole job.
Who it's not for. A team that needs Fieldwire-level plan markup and punch lists by trade.
The catch. The entry price covers a single user and Basic is annual only ($588 a year). The next tier, Standard, is $105 a month for up to 3 users.
How to move from Fieldwire. Start on a fresh job. Re-enter only the open tasks of live jobs from your Fieldwire CSV.
- Price
- $49/mo, 1 user (annual)
- Labs score
- 4.1/5
- Trial
- 30 days
- Catch
- single user at entry
Kraaft: jobsite messaging your crews actually open
EasiestWhy switch to Kraaft. Plenty of teams leave Fieldwire because the crews never open it and everything goes back to group texts. Kraaft keeps the texting habit: one thread per job, geotagged photos, notes, forms and Word or Excel reports.
What it costs. Solo is free for individual use. Pro is €20 per user per month with a 4-user minimum. Enterprise (single sign-on, integrations) is quoted. Prices are listed in euros only.
Who it's for. Trade contractors with crews spread across several jobs who want a record of photos and decisions without training anyone.
Who it's not for. Anyone running RFIs, submittals or punch lists on drawings.
The catch. It is a communication tool, not a drawings tool.
How to move from Fieldwire. Nothing to import. Open a thread per live job and keep the Fieldwire exports as your archive.

- Solo, individual use
- Paid
- Pro €20/user/mo, 4 minimum
- Labs score

- Catch

Bluebeam: if you mostly used Fieldwire to mark up sheets
Office markupWhy switch to Bluebeam. Some users find Fieldwire's markup tools dated. Bluebeam is the industry PDF tool for markups, takeoffs, sheet compare and shared review sessions.
What it costs. Basics is $260, Core $330 and Complete $440 per user per year, billed annually. Basics works out under $22 a month per seat.
Who it's for. Estimators, PMs and engineers who spend their day on drawings at a desk.
Who it's not for. Field crews: Bluebeam is not a task and punch app.
The catch. No field task tracking like Fieldwire's. Most teams pair it with a field app.
How to move from Fieldwire. Export your sheets as PDFs and rebuild your markup sets. Going the other way? Our guide to switching from Bluebeam covers it.
- Basics
- $260/user/yr
- Core
- $330/user/yr
- Billing
- annual only
- Catch
- no field tasks

Leaving Fieldwire in seven steps
Order matters more than the tool you pick. Most Fieldwire exits go wrong the same way: downgrade to free, then find out the export needed a paid plan.
The steps
Audit what lives in Fieldwire
Day 1List, project by project: sheets, open tasks, forms, photos, files and reports. Note each project's plan, since one account can mix plans. That list tells you what to pull out and which permissions you need.
- Time
- half a day
- Risk if skipped
- lost forms
Keep a paid plan until the export is done
GotchaBulk export needs a project on Pro or higher and the Project Admin role. Forms only export on Business or Business Plus. Downgrade first and they're stuck. Schedule the export before your subscription ends.
- Sheets, tasks, photos
- Pro minimum
- Forms
- Business minimum
Export sheets in batches of 1,000
VolumeThere is no export-everything button: each data type comes out on its own. For drawings, open Plans, check the sheets or folders, then Actions and Export plans. One export takes 1,000 sheets max, so split big projects by folder.
- Max
- 1,000 sheets per export
- Where
- Plans, Actions, Export plans
Pull tasks as CSV
DataIn Tasks, run Generate Reports. CSV handles up to 25,000 tasks; a single PDF stops at 4,000, and larger reports split into several PDFs up to 10,000 tasks. Take both: CSV to filter or re-import, PDF as a readable record for claims and warranty work.
- CSV
- up to 25,000 tasks
- 4,000 per PDF, 10,000 total
Grab forms, photos and files
BusinessExport forms (daily reports, inspections) while the project is still on Business or above, then photos and files. File everything in one folder per job and open a few at random to confirm they're complete.
- Check
- open 5 random files
- Filing
- one folder per job
Downgrade to Basic, or keep 3 projects
TimingCanceling Fieldwire means downgrading to Basic (Manage subscription, then Downgrade, by the Account Owner or an Account Manager). Data stays stored, but Basic caps you at 5 users, 3 projects and 100 sheets, and archived projects count toward the 3. Accounts over the limits get locked.
- Basic
- 5 users, 3 projects, 100 sheets
- Gotcha
- archived projects count
Start the new tool on a new job
FieldDon't switch mid-phase. Open the new tool on the next job, let live jobs finish in Fieldwire, then close out. Train supers and foremen first: they decide whether the tool lives or dies.
- Time
- a few weeks
- Risk if rushed
- a job split in two

What breaks a Fieldwire exit
None of these is technical. They're mistakes of order and math.
Downgrading before exporting
Export needs Pro; forms need Business. On Basic, they stay locked inside.
Forgetting archived projects
On Basic they count toward the 3-project cap, and an account over the cap gets locked.
Comparing seat prices only
A cheaper seat can cost more if guests pay. A pricier one can cost less if subs are free.
Losing a legacy rate
On a pre-2022 plan, changing tier or billing cycle moves you to current pricing. Run the math first.
Hunting for a clone
Most exits come from one gap. Pick the tool that fills it, not the one that looks most like Fieldwire.
Switching mid-phase
Changing tools mid-job splits your record in two. Wait for the next job or a phase end.
- Sheets, tasks, forms and photos listed per project
- Projects still on Pro or higher on export day
- Forms exported while on Business
- Sheets exported in batches of 1,000
- Tasks pulled as CSV and PDF
- Random files opened to confirm the export
- Archived projects deleted or exported before Basic
- New tool started on a new job
Fieldwire alternative: common questions
Is Fieldwire free?
Yes, Basic is free, capped at 5 users, 3 projects and 100 sheets. It leaves out reports, exports, sheet compare and custom forms. One crew on two or three jobs can live with it.
How much does Fieldwire cost?
Pro is $39, Business $64 and Business Plus $89 per user per month, billed annually. Month-to-month costs more.
What is the best Fieldwire alternative?
It depends on why you're leaving. PlanRadar for paid sub seats, JobTread for estimating and costing, Contractor Foreman for the lowest price, Kraaft if crews won't use an app.
Can I export all my data from Fieldwire?
Yes, one data type at a time, with no export-all button. You need a project on Pro or higher and the Project Admin role; forms need Business. Sheets export 1,000 at a time, tasks as CSV up to 25,000.
What happens to my data if I cancel Fieldwire?
Canceling means downgrading to Basic. Your data stays stored, but you drop to 3 projects, archived ones included, and an account over the cap is locked. Fieldwire itself recommends exporting first.
Does Fieldwire do estimates and invoicing?
No. It handles drawings, tasks, punch lists and forms. For estimates and invoices you need a tool like JobTread or Contractor Foreman.
Fieldwire or Procore?
Fieldwire bills per user and targets field work; Procore prices on annual construction volume with unlimited users. With many guests on big jobs, Procore can work out cheaper per head. Our Procore exit guide covers the reverse move.
Who owns Fieldwire?
Hilti, the power tool maker, bought Fieldwire in 2021. The product carries on as Fieldwire by Hilti.
