Genially alternatives: where to go and how to keep your work
Six tools with public pricing, one for each reason to leave, and a six-step exit plan.
The short answer: pick H5P for free, open-source interactive content that lives inside Moodle, Articulate 360 if you ship SCORM courses for a living, Visme for interactive presentations and infographics published as HTML5, Mentimeter if what you really need is live audience interaction, Pitch for collaborative team decks, and Gamma if you want AI to build the first draft of your slides. None of them does everything Genially does, so choose the one that fixes your reason for leaving. We compared their official pricing pages in 2026 and read what teachers, trainers and Genially customers say about why they move on.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
Why people leave Genially, and what it means for you
Genially has a loyal following among teachers and trainers, and its clickable presentations, quizzes and escape rooms are genuinely good. People rarely leave because of the editor. They leave because of the business model: what it costs to get content out, what happens to their work when the service changes, and how billing works. Here are six reasons, all checked in 2026.
SCORM is locked to the top plan
SCORM is the package format that lets you upload a course into an LMS and track learner progress. On Genially, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI export are only on the Author plan, at €40 per member per month, billed yearly (pricing is shown in euros). Author is sold as a team plan, priced per member, so check the minimum number of seats before you sign up for a single course.
Storage caps push you up a tier
The free plan gives you 2 GB for creations and 100 MB for assets. Pro bumps that to 7.5 GB and Master to 25 GB. Add video and you hit the ceiling fast. One Trustpilot reviewer put it bluntly: "I am now being forced to consider moving my entire library to another platform."
Annual billing only
Every paid Genially plan is billed yearly, and there's no monthly price on the page. The pain shows up when you try to leave. Some Trustpilot reviewers say "when it comes to cancelling and getting a refund, communication is non-existent", and others report being refused even a partial refund after missing the renewal date.
Your work depends on the service
A French regional education office reported that Genially updates wiped out hours of work for some teachers, especially escape rooms built with a community extension pack. Its conclusion was that the model doesn't guarantee long-term use, ownership of your content or control over cost, and it pointed teachers toward H5P.
One editor at a time
User reviews say only one person can work on a Genially at a time. For an L&D team building a course together, that means constant waiting. The same reviews describe navigation as hard to use and not very accessible, which matters if you have accessibility requirements.
A thin free plan and slow heavy projects
The free plan includes 500 AI credits a year, 5 question banks of 100 questions and 50 live participants. Offline viewing starts on paid plans. Reviews also mention long load times on media-heavy projects, so the richer the piece, the slower it can get.
You're leaving because… go to…
The right Genially alternative depends on what you actually use it for. A teacher running quizzes and an L&D team shipping SCORM courses need different tools. Usually one row fits you. Each card links to the full breakdown below.
Open source, free, built into Moodle.
You ship SCORM courses to an LMSArticulate 360SCORM included, from $1,449 a year.
You build interactive decks and infographicsVismeHTML5 from Business, $24.75 a month.
You run live polls and quizzes with a roomMentimeterBasic from $11.99 a month.
You build decks as a teamPitchPlus from €10 a month.
You want AI to draft your slidesGammaPlus at $9 a month billed annually.
Genially alternatives, tool by tool
For each tool: why switch to it, who it's for, its main limit, how to move from Genially, and what it costs. We only ranked tools whose pricing is readable on their official page. Canva, Prezi, iSpring Suite, Wooclap and Kahoot often come up next to Genially, but their pricing wasn't readable on their site when we compared, so they stay out of the ranking. If Canva is also on your list to replace, see our guide to switching from Canva. Only Gamma shows a score here, because it's the one tool on the list with its own review page.
The tools
H5P: the open-source way to own your content
Best free optionWhy switch to H5P. It fixes the ownership problem head on. H5P is free and open source. You build interactive videos, clickable images and quizzes, inside your Moodle or on H5P.com, the hosted version. h5p.org is the project site, where you get the software and its docs. It already plugs into Moodle, so if your courses live there you don't need anything else.
Who it's for. Teachers, schools and training teams that run Moodle and want interactive activities with no subscription and no vendor lock-in.
Who it's not for. Anyone who wants Genially's polished, animated templates out of the box. H5P is plainer, and you build one activity at a time.
Its limit. Outside an LMS, you need a way to author and share. You have two options. Lumi is a desktop H5P editor that exports to HTML, SCORM or a .h5p file; its pricing wasn't shown on its site, so check before you commit. H5P.com is the hosted version for institutions: Premium costs $1,560 a year ($130 a month) for 3 authors, and the page doesn't mention SCORM export.
How to move from Genially. Start with the one lesson you reuse most. Rebuild its activities in H5P inside your LMS, and keep the HTML export of the Genially version as a backup until the new one has run with real learners.
Pricing. H5P is free and open source, installed in your own platform. H5P.com: Premium $1,560 a year for 3 authors, Pro and Enterprise with no public price, a free trial and then 14 days to buy or export your content.

Articulate 360: the standard for SCORM courses
Best for SCORMWhy switch to Articulate 360. If you're leaving because SCORM costs €40 per member per month on Genially Author, Articulate 360 is where teams that ship SCORM every day end up. SCORM is included, and the subscription bundles two authoring tools: Storyline for deeply interactive modules and Rise for courses you can put together quickly.
Who it's for. Corporate L&D teams and freelance instructional designers who deliver courses into a client's LMS and need to track completion.
Who it's not for. A teacher making a few quizzes a term. At over $1,400 a year, it's a professional tool that belongs in a training budget. If you're also rethinking your training platform, see our guide to switching from 360Learning.
Its limit. Price. It's $1,449 per seat per year for a solo designer and $1,749 for teams, and it's only listed in US dollars. It pays off if you build courses all year, not for a one-off module.
How to move from Genially. List the courses your clients run in their LMS and rebuild them one by one, starting with the ones with the most learners. If you're on Author, keep your Genially SCORM packages live until the new versions are approved in the LMS.
Pricing. $1,449 per seat per year for a solo designer; $1,749 per seat per year for teams; SCORM included.

Visme: interactive presentations and infographics
Best for visualsWhy switch to Visme. It's the closest to Genially in look and feel: presentations, infographics and interactive documents, published as HTML5 so the interactivity survives. Visme also has flat-price plans for educators and students.
Who it's for. Marketing and comms teams making clickable decks and infographics, and teachers who want a fixed yearly Educator plan.
Who it's not for. An L&D team that needs SCORM without a sales call. On Visme, SCORM and xAPI are Enterprise only, on a quote, from 10 users. It's Genially's problem again, one level up.
Its limit. HTML5 export starts on Business, not Starter. The free Basic plan gives you 500 MB and 50 pages per project, with JPG, PNG and PDF exports only.
How to move from Genially. Export your Genially pieces as PDFs first so you keep the content. Then rebuild your three most-viewed pieces in Visme from a similar template, and only pay for Business if you really need HTML5.
Pricing. Basic free; Starter $12.25 a month, or $147 a year; Business $24.75 a month, or $297 a year, with HTML5; Educator $96 a year, with HTML5; Student $48 a year; Enterprise on a quote, from 10 users, for SCORM.

Mentimeter: live interaction with your audience
Best for live sessionsWhy switch to Mentimeter. If you mostly used Genially to get a room to react (live quizzes, polls), Mentimeter does that job better than a content builder. Live polls and quizzes are its whole focus, so you don't need to build a clickable deck just to ask five questions.
Who it's for. Trainers, teachers and meeting facilitators who want a room to participate, in person or remote.
Who it's not for. Anyone building self-paced content like a course or an escape room. Mentimeter lives during the session, not after.
Its limit. The free plan is tight: a limited number of participants each month, 23 slide types, and no import or export. Prices are shown billed yearly, before tax, and the monthly price of Basic isn't listed.
How to move from Genially. Pull out the questions you ask a live audience from your Genially pieces and rebuild them in Mentimeter. Keep another tool from this page for anything learners go through on their own.
Pricing. Free with limited participants each month; Basic $11.99 per presenter per month; Pro $24.99 per presenter per month, billed yearly, before tax; Enterprise on a quote.

Pitch: decks your whole team can build together
Best for teamsWhy switch to Pitch. It answers a specific complaint: on Genially, one person edits at a time. Pitch is built for a team working on the same deck at once, and its free plan covers 1 to 5 seats. Its pricing page shows euros.
Who it's for. Sales, marketing and startup teams that put decks together as a group, without waiting for a colleague to finish.
Who it's not for. A trainer who needs quizzes or SCORM. Pitch makes presentations, not learning activities.
Its limit. The free plan gives you 100 AI credits once, exports PDFs with Pitch branding and has no PowerPoint export. Listed prices are for annual billing (17% less than monthly).
How to move from Genially. Pick the decks you still use, export them as PDFs from Genially to keep the content, then rebuild them in Pitch and invite your team on the Team plan.
Pricing. Free for 1 to 5 seats; Plus €10 a month for 1 seat; Team €15 a month for 1 to 25 seats; Business €20 a month for up to 200 seats; billed yearly; Enterprise on a quote.

Gamma: AI that drafts your decks
Best with AIWhy switch to Gamma. If layout is what eats your time on Genially, Gamma does it for you. Give it a topic or a block of text and the AI builds a full presentation you can then edit. We give it 4.3 out of 5 in our full Gamma review, and our Gamma pricing breakdown details the credits.
Who it's for. Consultants, trainers and marketing teams who produce a lot of decks and want a fast first draft.
Who it's not for. Anyone building quizzes, escape rooms or SCORM courses. Gamma does none of those.
Its limit. The free plan includes 400 credits once, and they go quickly once you generate a few decks.
How to move from Genially. Paste the text of your Genially decks into Gamma, let the AI suggest a layout, then edit. It's the fastest move on this page, as long as you don't need interactivity.
Pricing. Free with 400 credits once; Plus $9 per seat per month billed annually ($108 a year); Pro $18 ($216 a year); Ultra $90. Not sold on it? See our Gamma alternatives.

6 alternatives side by side with Genially
A quick reality check if you need SCORM: Genially Author costs €40 per member per month, on a team plan billed yearly. Articulate 360's solo plan is $1,449 a year, for a much fuller authoring tool. H5P inside Moodle costs nothing, with a plainer result. The table gives one row per tool: what it covers on the left, the entry price and how to move on the right.
| What it covers | Entry price and how to move from Genially | |
|---|---|---|
| GeniallyStarting point | Clickable decks, quizzes, games, courses; SCORM on Author | Free, then Pro €6/month billed yearly; SCORM at €40/member/month |
| H5PFree, open source | Interactive video, clickable images, quizzes, inside Moodle | Free; rebuild activity by activity in your LMS |
| Articulate 360Pro SCORM | Storyline and Rise courses, SCORM included | $1,449/seat/yr solo; rebuild your most-used courses first |
| VismeVisual | Decks, infographics, HTML5 from Business | Starter $147/yr; keep a PDF of every piece |
| MentimeterLive | Live polls and quizzes with a room | Basic $11.99/month; rebuild your live questions |
| PitchTeams | Collaborative decks, priced in euros | Plus €10/month; rebuild decks as a team |
| GammaAI | AI-generated decks, no quizzes | Plus $9/month billed annually; paste your text and edit |
Switch from Genially in six steps
Order matters. Exports depend on your paid plan, so you export before you cancel, never after. Each step protects a piece of work, a published link or your money.
The steps
List your creations and where they're published
FirstMake a list of everything in your Genially account: decks, quizzes, games, courses. For each one, note where it's published (a link on your site, an LMS embed, a SCORM package at a client) and who still uses it.
You'll usually find that a handful of pieces carry most of the traffic. Those deserve a careful move; the rest can become an archive.
- Payoff
- you know what to move first
Find your renewal date
Same dayAll paid Genially plans renew yearly. Find your exact renewal date in your account and put it in your calendar with a reminder a month ahead.
Customers who missed that date report being refused a refund, even a partial one. Your migration has to finish before it, or you're paying for another year.
- Billing
- yearly only
Export your work while your plan allows it
Before you cancelFrom Pro up, Genially exports to PDF, JPG and video, and lets you download an offline version. That HTML version keeps animations and interactions and opens in a browser with no internet connection. It's your best archive. On Author, export your SCORM packages too.
Export every piece you care about now and store the files in a shared folder, so your library no longer depends on the service.
- Offline
- from Pro
- SCORM
- Author only
Rebuild your most-used pieces first
NextPlan on rebuilding your work in the new tool, one piece at a time, starting with the most used. Keep the HTML or PDF export open next to you as a reference.
Use the move to trim. An activity nobody runs anymore doesn't need a second life.
- Order
- most used to least used
Replace published links and LMS content
ThenGenially connects to an LMS three ways: a SCORM package, an LTI 1.3 connection or a plain embed. For each published piece, swap the old integration for the new one in the same spot, and check it loads for a learner.
For a SCORM course, also check that completion data reaches the LMS before you remove the old one.
- Check
- display and completion
Cancel before the renewal date
LastOnce your important pieces are exported and replaced, cancel before the date you noted in step 2. Keep a screenshot of the cancellation confirmation.
Before you close, check what happens to your published pieces once your account drops back to the free plan, with its storage caps and no export.
- Rule
- cancel after the last link is replaced

What makes a Genially exit go wrong
The same mistakes show up again and again in teacher and trainer feedback. None is hard to avoid, but each one costs hours of work or a year of subscription.
Cancelling before exporting
Offline and other exports depend on your paid plan. Export everything that matters first, then cancel.
Missing the renewal
Billing is yearly. Being a few days late can cost you a full year with no refund.
Looking for a perfect Genially clone
No alternative does everything Genially does. Pick by use: H5P for activities, Articulate for SCORM, Mentimeter for live sessions.
Paying for SCORM you don't need
If your content lives in Moodle, H5P is already built in. SCORM only matters when you deliver a course into someone else's LMS.
Forgetting published links
A Genially embedded in a course or a website still depends on your account. The step 1 inventory tells you which links to replace before you cancel.
Rebuilding everything at once
Moving a hundred pieces in one go burns out a team. Start with the five most used and archive the rest as HTML.
Genially alternatives: frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Genially?
Yes: H5P, free and open source, for interactive video, clickable images and quizzes. It's already built into Moodle. Visme, Pitch, Mentimeter and Gamma also have free plans, but they're limited: 500 MB on Visme, limited participants each month on Mentimeter. For more options, see our best quiz tools for education.
Is Genially free?
Genially has a free plan with 500 AI credits a year, 2 GB for creations, 100 MB for assets, 5 question banks of 100 questions and 50 live participants. Offline viewing and other exports start on Pro, at €6 a month billed yearly.
How much does Genially cost?
Pro is €6 a month, Master €20 a month (or per member for teams), Author €40 per member per month, and Enterprise is on a quote. Every plan is billed yearly, and the pricing page shows euros. To compare with other tools, see our best presentation software ranking.
Can you export Genially to SCORM?
Only on the Author plan, at €40 per member per month: it's the only plan with SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI export. On other plans you can still put a Genially in an LMS through LTI 1.3 or an embed, just without a SCORM package.
Can you use Genially offline?
Yes, from the Pro plan: you download an HTML version that keeps animations and interactions and opens in a browser with no connection. The free plan doesn't include it. It's also the best way to archive your work before you leave.
Is H5P a real replacement for Genially?
For learning activities like quizzes, interactive video and clickable images, yes, and it's what a French regional education office recommends instead of Genially. For highly visual decks with animated templates, no: H5P is plainer and built one activity at a time.
Canva or Genially: which should you pick?
Canva for visual presentations, with no quizzes or SCORM. Genially for interactivity: quizzes, games, clickable content. Neither is an affordable SCORM authoring tool. If you're rethinking Canva too, our guide to switching from Canva compares its alternatives.
What's the best Genially alternative for corporate training?
Articulate 360 if you deliver SCORM courses into client LMSs, H5P if your training runs in your own Moodle. Visme's SCORM sits on its Enterprise quote, so check that before you pick it for training.
