Kapwing alternatives: where to go and how to get your videos out before you cancel

Ten video editors compared, one pick per reason for leaving, and a seven-step exit plan that leaves no watermark and no project behind.

The short answer: VEED if you want the closest browser editor, from $10 a month billed yearly, with no AI credits spent on subtitles. Clipchamp if you want a free plan with no watermark up to 1080p. Descript if you mostly edit talking-head video and want to cut it by editing the transcript. CapCut if you edit on your phone and want the most effects per dollar. DaVinci Resolve if a desktop app is fine and you want Ultra HD for free. Opus Clip or InVideo AI if you turn long videos into clips or generate videos from a script.

Two numbers to keep in mind. Kapwing's free plan gives you 10 AI credits for the lifetime of the account, and free projects are deleted after 3 days. Pro costs $16 per member per month billed yearly ($192 upfront) or $24 month to month, with no refunds once you pay. We compared all ten destinations on what they really cost, where they fall short, and what moving actually takes.

The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

The real reasons

Why people leave Kapwing, and what staying costs

Kapwing is a browser video editor: upload, trim, add subtitles and export without installing anything. Users have long praised that simplicity. One Hacker News commenter liked that it "allowed me to start editing the video while it was being uploaded." For the wider market, see our ranking of video editing software for marketing. People leave for six reasons, all visible in Kapwing's own terms or in its customer reviews.

A watermarked, 720p free plan that runs dry fast

The free plan lets you export as many videos as you like within 30 export minutes a month in total, but with the Kapwing watermark in the bottom right corner, at 720p, and no video longer than 4 minutes. You also get 10 minutes of subtitles and one minute of text to speech. A Trustpilot reviewer puts it bluntly: "It also slaps a massive watermark on your video unless you pay money to remove it."

AI credits that burn fast

Since the latest plan overhaul, one credit balance pays for transcription, dubbing and lip sync. The rate card is steep: 1 credit per minute of subtitles, 30 per minute of lip sync, 4 per video resize. Pro includes 1,000 credits a month, and lip sync is capped at 30 minutes a month, the limit Kapwing shows on its pricing page. Unused credits vanish at the end of the month, and the free plan gets 10 for life. From Trustpilot: "I took all my credits for a simple task of a 1 min long video and it's poorly done."

No refunds, no reminders

The subscription FAQ is blunt: "We do not issue refunds once you decide to subscribe." Removing a member mid-cycle doesn't get you anything back either. And the refund policy states that Kapwing does not send email payment reminders before renewal. A forgotten yearly plan means $192 per member charged in one go, and it's the most common complaint on Trustpilot ("Refused to refund a service I never used").

Projects deleted after 3 days

In a free workspace, projects older than 3 days are deleted automatically, and Kapwing says they cannot be restored. The trap shows up when you leave: once your subscription ends, the workspace drops back to free. Anything you didn't export goes with it.

Bugs and support under fire

Kapwing scores 1.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot across about 1,400 reviews, and 3.1 out of 5 on Product Hunt. The complaints repeat: glitchy exports ("Their exports are broken, videos just straight up glitch"), credits missing after payment ("I only have 1 credit instead of 1000"), AI renders that need extra credits to finish.

Per-member pricing that multiplies

Every paid plan is billed per workspace member. Kapwing's own example: three members on monthly Pro is 3 times $24, so $72 a month. Going yearly saves a third, but switching back to monthly, or down from Business to Pro, means canceling and starting over.

The 10 alternatives

For each tool: why switch to it, who it's for, its limit, how to move from Kapwing, and what it costs. Prices are the ones each vendor shows in 2026 on its official US pricing page, in dollars. 01

VEED: the same browser workflow, without counting subtitle minutes

Closest to Kapwing

Why switch to VEED. It's the tool that looks most like Kapwing: a browser editor with auto subtitles, a brand kit and AI tools. The big difference is subtitles. VEED doesn't take them out of your AI credits, while Kapwing Pro takes them out of its 1,000 credits. Its official FAQ says all paid plans include unlimited subtitle generation, subject to a fair use limit of 50 hours per month. The Creator plan card, though, still lists "120 hr/yr": check your plan's limit before you commit.

Who it's for. Marketing teams and creators who caption a lot of videos and want to stay in an online editor.

Its limit. VEED also bills per editor seat and also uses AI credits for video generation, and those credits don't roll over. The free plan carries a watermark.

Moving from Kapwing. Export each project as MP4 and its subtitles as SRT, then import both. Rebuild your brand kit (logo, fonts, colors) before the first video so you don't redo it project by project.

Price. Free with watermark. Creator: $10 per user a month billed yearly, no watermark, 1080p and 6,000 credits. Pro: $19 a month billed yearly, with 4K export, translation into 50+ languages. VEED advertises savings of up to 60% on yearly billing versus monthly.

Clipchamp: free, no watermark, up to 1080p

Best free plan

Why switch to Clipchamp. It answers Kapwing's first pain point head on. Microsoft's editor lets you export as many videos as you want on the free plan, with no watermark, up to 1080p. Auto subtitles, voiceovers and silence removal are included, with no credit balance to watch.

Who it's for. Solo creators, small teams, and anyone who paid Kapwing only to remove the watermark.

Its limit. OneDrive backup is included even on the free plan. 4K, premium stock and the brand kit come with a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, built for individuals and households rather than teams. No AI dubbing or lip sync.

Moving from Kapwing. Grab your MP4s and source files, then regenerate subtitles inside Clipchamp instead of importing old files: it's free and uncapped.

Price. Free. Premium comes with Microsoft 365 Personal ($9.99 a month or $99.99 a year) or Family ($12.99 or $129.99).

03

Descript: edit the video by editing the text

For talking video

Why switch to Descript. Descript transcribes your video, then you edit it like a document: delete a sentence in the text and it's gone from the video. For interviews, filmed podcasts or tutorials, that's far faster than Kapwing's timeline. Our full Descript review covers its strengths and gaps, and the Descript pricing breakdown goes plan by plan.

Who it's for. Creators and teams who mostly produce on-camera talk.

Its limit. Descript counts two things at once: media hours per month and AI credits. The free plan is 720p with a watermark, one media hour and 100 one-time credits, so it's no more generous than Kapwing's.

Moving from Kapwing. Import your raw footage, not the finished MP4s: Descript needs the original audio to transcribe and cut cleanly.

Price. Hobbyist: $16 a month billed yearly or $24 monthly (1080p, 10 hours, 400 credits). Creator: $24 or $35 (4K, 30 hours, 800 credits). Business: $50 or $65 (40 hours, 1,500 credits).

Flixier: browser editing in 4K with unlimited collaborators

For team editing

Why switch to Flixier. Flixier is another online editor, close to Kapwing in how it works. Its Creator plan unlocks 4K, exports with no monthly cap, 1,500 subtitle minutes a month, transcript-based editing and unlimited collaborators. For a team where several people touch the same video, that matters.

Who it's for. Marketing teams that want to stay in the browser and edit together.

Its limit. It's billed per seat too. And Flixier warns that very large or back-to-back exports may sit in a short processing queue at peak times.

Moving from Kapwing. Import your MP4s and SRTs, then invite teammates to the project instead of setting up a workspace per person.

Price. Free with watermark, 720p, 10 export minutes a month. Starter: $19 per seat a month on monthly billing (1080p, 60 export minutes, 120 subtitle minutes). Creator: $39 (4K, uncapped exports). Business: $69 (unlimited subtitles).

CapCut: powerful and cheap, but read the license

Popular, with caveats

Why switch to CapCut. CapCut packs a huge set of effects, templates and AI tools, on mobile and desktop, at a low price. Most creators already know it.

Who it's for. Solo creators who edit on their phone for TikTok and Instagram.

Its limit. Its terms grant CapCut a very broad license over the content you post, and its asset license separates personal and commercial use. For a brand, read both before switching. Our guide to switching from CapCut covers the details.

Moving from Kapwing. Import your MP4s and source files; subtitles regenerate inside CapCut.

Price. Pro: $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year (1,200 credits, 1 TB). Teams: from $12.49 per seat a month, two seats minimum. CapCut notes that displayed pricing is for reference only.

DaVinci Resolve: free Ultra HD, no subscription

Free and pro

Why switch to DaVinci Resolve. Blackmagic's free version exports in Ultra HD 3840 × 2160 at up to 60 frames per second, with no watermark, and even includes multi-user collaboration. It's an editing, color and audio suite used in film and TV. No credits, no subscription.

Who it's for. People who want a professional result and are willing to learn real software.

Its limit. It's a desktop app, not a browser tool: you install it, and the learning curve is long next to Kapwing. AI features (the Neural Engine, which powers Magic Mask and text-based editing) are Studio only.

Moving from Kapwing. Start from your source media: we found no project export (XML or EDL) in Kapwing's help center that another editor could open. Keep your SRTs, which DaVinci imports as a subtitle track.

Price. Free. Studio: $236 one time, before sales tax, adding 10-bit, 120 fps and the AI tools.

Opus Clip: turn one long video into clips

Long to short

Why switch to Opus Clip. If you used Kapwing to cut highlights from webinars or podcasts, Opus Clip automates it: it finds the strongest moments, reframes them vertically and adds captions.

Who it's for. Anyone repurposing long videos into short social content.

Its limit. It's not a full editor; you don't build a video from scratch. On the free plan, clips carry a watermark and stay downloadable for 3 days, which echoes Kapwing's own deadline.

Moving from Kapwing. Nothing to move: give it the original long video or its link.

Price. Free, 1080p with watermark, 60 credits a month. Starter: $15 a month, monthly billing only. Pro: $29 a month, with 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 and a team workspace.

Adobe Express: short video next to your graphics

Design plus video

Why switch to Adobe Express. If your videos sit alongside graphics (posts, stories, banners), Adobe Express does both in one place, with Adobe's templates and fonts. One-click resize, included in Premium, adapts a format for each network, something Kapwing charges 4 credits per video for. Our guide to switching from Adobe Express covers why some users move on.

Who it's for. Small marketing teams that mostly make graphics and some video.

Its limit. It's a design tool first. Video is capped at 30 minutes on the free plan and 2 hours on Premium.

Moving from Kapwing. Import your short MP4s and your logo, then rebuild your brand templates once.

Price. Free. Premium: $9.99 a month. Teams: $4.99 per seat a month the first year, then $7.99.

WeVideo: a cheap online editor on yearly billing

Schools and teams

Why switch to WeVideo. WeVideo is a long-running online editor, big in education, whose yearly plans cost half the monthly price. Unlimited publishes in 4K for $7.99 a month billed yearly, less than half of Kapwing Pro.

Who it's for. Schools, trainers and small teams that want a low, predictable bill.

Its limit. The free plan is tight: 5 publishing minutes a month, 1 GB of storage, 480p. Real-time collaboration only comes with Business, for three people max.

Moving from Kapwing. Import your MP4s and media; a brand kit can be rebuilt on Professional or Business.

Price. Before tax: Power at $4.99 a month billed yearly (720p), Unlimited at $7.99 ($95.88 a year, 4K), Professional at $19.99, Business at $36.99 ($443.88 a year). Monthly billing costs about twice as much.

InVideo AI: from script to video

Generate, don't edit

Why switch to InVideo AI. Some Kapwing users mostly lean on its AI to produce videos from scratch. InVideo AI is built for that: you describe the video in a prompt and it generates a first cut you then adjust.

Who it's for. Marketers who need many explainer or social videos without filming.

Its limit. It's a generator, not a collaborative editor like Kapwing. It runs on credits too, and unused credits don't roll over.

Moving from Kapwing. Little to move: reuse your scripts and your brand assets.

Price. Starter: $10 per seat a month billed yearly, $20 monthly (400 credits). Plus: $30 or $60 (2,000 credits). Max: $250 a month billed yearly (8,000 credits).

The comparison

10 Kapwing alternatives side by side

To compare like for like, take a three-person team on yearly billing. Kapwing Pro: $48 a month (3 × $16). VEED Creator: $30 (3 × $10). Flixier shows no yearly amount: on monthly billing its Starter costs $57 for three, against $72 for Kapwing Pro monthly. Clipchamp and DaVinci Resolve cost nothing to export without a watermark. The gaps come from what's included: subtitles, AI credits, resolution.

Migration plan

Leave Kapwing in seven steps

Order matters, because Kapwing forgives nothing: no refunds, no reminders, and projects deleted 3 days after you're back on free. Do it all while your subscription is still running.

01

Take stock of your Kapwing workspace

Day 1

List the projects you want to keep, the workspace members, your brand kit (logos, fonts, colors) and your next renewal date, shown in billing settings. Check your remaining credits too: they disappear at month end, so spend them on your last subtitles.

Time
about an hour
Risk if rushed
a forgotten project, lost for good
02

Export every project as MP4, watermark-free

Before the cycle ends

While you're on Pro, every export comes out clean, in 4K if you want. Kapwing exports MP4, GIF, MP3, PNG or JPG: rendered files only. We found no editable project export another tool could open, so keep the cleanest version of each edit. Tip: an old project made on the free plan loses its watermark if you re-export it while Pro is active.

Formats
MP4, GIF, MP3, PNG, JPG
Limit
no editable project export
03

Download subtitles and transcripts

Kapwing saves subtitles as SRT or VTT and transcripts as text files. Download them separately: an SRT imports into VEED, Flixier, DaVinci or Descript, so you don't pay to generate them again or redo your corrections.

Formats
SRT, VTT, TXT
Saves you
re-paying for subtitles
04

Collect your source media

Gather the raw footage, music and images you uploaded. Your next editor works better from raw files than from a finished video, especially Descript, which needs the original audio to edit by text.

Keep
footage, audio, images, logos
05

Rebuild your brand kit and one test project

In the new tool, set up the brand kit first, then redo one typical video end to end: import, subtitles, vertical format, export. If something breaks, you find out on one project, while Kapwing is still paid for.

Time
half a day
06

Cancel before the renewal date

Before renewal

Kapwing won't send a reminder. Cancel a few days before the date from step 1: you keep access until the end of the paid cycle and nothing else is charged. Once the renewal goes through, Kapwing doesn't refund.

Cost of forgetting
$192 per member on yearly
07

Check nothing is left before the 3 days

When the cycle ends, your workspace drops to free and projects older than 3 days are deleted for good. Before that, open your export folder and check every file: a broken MP4 can still be re-exported, afterwards it can't.

Deadline
3 days after dropping to free

Migration pitfalls

What makes a Kapwing exit go wrong

The same mistakes show up again and again in former customers' reviews. None of them is technical: they're calendar or math slips, and each one costs money or videos.

Canceling after renewal

With no payment reminder and no refunds, being one day late on a yearly plan costs $192 per member. Put the date in your calendar today.

Letting the workspace drop to free with projects inside

Three days later they're gone. Export before the cycle ends, not after.

Forgetting the subtitle files

An MP4 with burned-in captions can't be fixed. An SRT imports anywhere and saves hours of proofreading.

Comparing prices without multiplying by seats

Kapwing, VEED and Flixier bill per seat. For three people, VEED Creator's $10 becomes $30 a month, and Kapwing Pro's $16 becomes $48. Always do the math for the whole team.

Changing tools without changing the use case

If all you do is caption short clips, a full editor is overkill: Clipchamp or Opus Clip will do. If your videos are mostly animated graphics, read our guide to switching from Canva before you choose.

Skipping a transcription check

Transcription quality varies by tool and by accent. Run the same two-minute clip, with names and numbers, through your two finalists before paying.

  • Renewal date noted and cancellation scheduled before it
  • Every project worth keeping exported as MP4 on Pro
  • Subtitles downloaded as SRT or VTT
  • Transcripts saved as text files
  • Raw footage, music and logos collected
  • Brand kit rebuilt in the new tool
  • One typical video redone end to end
  • Exports checked before the 3-day deletion
FAQ · 9 questions

Kapwing alternatives: frequently asked questions

  • Is there a free Kapwing alternative without a watermark?

Yes: Clipchamp. Its free plan exports with no watermark up to 1080p, with auto subtitles, voiceovers and silence removal, and no credits to track. If a desktop app is fine, DaVinci Resolve goes further: Ultra HD up to 60 fps, no watermark, no subscription. Kapwing's free plan stays at 720p with a watermark and 10 credits for the life of the account.

  • How much is Kapwing Pro?

$16 per member per month billed yearly, which is $192 upfront, or $24 month to month. Business is $50 per member per month billed yearly. Pro includes 1,000 AI credits a month, 4K export, videos up to 2 hours and 200 GB of storage.

  • Does Kapwing offer refunds?

No. Kapwing's FAQ says it plainly: no refunds once you subscribe, even if you remove a member mid-cycle. It doesn't send payment reminders before renewal either. Canceling before the renewal date is your only protection.

  • How do I remove the Kapwing watermark?

Upgrade to a paid plan, then re-export. Kapwing says Pro removes the watermark from previously created projects once you re-export them. If you're leaving, that's the move: one $24 month of Pro lets you re-export every project clean before you cancel.

  • How do I export my Kapwing projects before leaving?

Export each project as MP4 while your subscription is active, then download subtitles as SRT or VTT. We found no project file in Kapwing's help center that another editor can reopen. Do it before the cycle ends: the workspace drops to free and projects older than 3 days are deleted. If you also record podcasts, our guide to switching from Riverside follows the same logic.

  • Kapwing vs VEED: which one should I pick?

VEED, if you caption a lot: its FAQ promises unlimited subtitles on every paid plan (fair use of 50 hours a month), while Kapwing takes them out of your credits. It's cheaper on yearly billing too: $10 a month against $16. Kapwing keeps the edge for AI lip sync and dubbing, included in its credits, and for exports up to 2 hours on Pro.

  • How do Kapwing credits work?

One balance pays for every AI tool, on a rate card: 1 credit per subtitle minute, 2 per minute of Clean Audio, 10 per 30 seconds of dubbing, 30 per minute of lip sync, 4 per resize. Pro gets 1,000 a month, Business 4,000, and leftovers expire at month end. Only Business lets you buy more.

  • What's the best Kapwing alternative for teams?

Flixier if you want to stay in the browser: its Creator plan ($39 per seat a month) allows unlimited collaborators, 4K and uncapped exports. VEED if subtitles are your main workload. Watch the per-seat math: three people on VEED Creator cost $30 a month billed yearly, against $48 on Kapwing Pro.

  • When should you stay on Kapwing?

When you really use its AI tools: dubbing, lip sync, and voice clones on Business. Few browser editors bundle them in one subscription. Stay too if your team already works in a shared workspace with a brand kit and price is your only issue: switching to yearly billing saves a third. Leave if the watermark, the shrinking credits or support are costing you videos.
