Mentimeter alternatives: where to go when 50 participants isn't enough
Six tools compared, one pick per profile, and a six-step exit plan.
The short answer: Slido for meetings and events if 100 participants per slido (one per session) is enough on a free plan, Poll Everywhere if you present to big rooms (700 participants for $10 a month, billed yearly), Vevox for a clear entry price ($11.95 a month), AhaSlides if you want quizzes and word clouds in something that feels like Mentimeter, Wooclap for classrooms and LMS users (Excel and Moodle import), Kahoot! 360 if your audience wants to compete. One thing before you go: Mentimeter can't export a presentation into another tool. You take your results as Excel or PDF (on a paid plan) and you rebuild your questions. We compared these six tools and read their pricing pages in 2026.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored placement is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a rating.
Why people end up leaving Mentimeter
Mentimeter is pleasant to use: word clouds, scales and quizzes take minutes to set up, and your audience answers from a phone with nothing to install. People leave for other reasons: a tight free counter, exports locked behind paid plans, and annual billing. Six reasons, each checked against the official pages in 2026.
50 participants a month, for the whole account
The Free plan doesn't count 50 people per presentation. It counts 50 participants per month across your entire account. A 30-person workshop on Monday and a 25-person class on Thursday hit the cap. The counter resets on your signup anniversary: sign up on the 17th and it resets every 17th.
Two useful details: Mentimeter lets you go over the cap once a month, and a session that's already live keeps running for 8 hours. Once the counter is full, though, you can't start a new session.
No exports on Free
On Free you can't export results to Excel, slides to PDF, or images. For a trainer who has to hand in a session report, that is often what forces the upgrade, more than the participant cap.
Per-presenter pricing, billed yearly
Basic costs $11.99 per presenter per month and Pro $24.99, excluding tax, billed yearly. Pro has no monthly option; Basic can be paid monthly, but the page doesn't show that amount. Three trainers on Pro pay more than $899 a year before tax.
Renewals that don't get refunded
Subscriptions auto-renew. Mentimeter emails a reminder first, and that reminder is exactly why a renewed subscription isn't refunded. The 14-day refund only applies to a new purchase you haven't used live. In public customer reviews, almost a third are one star, and renewals come up again and again.
Nothing moves to another tool
There's no export of a presentation to Slido, Wooclap or any other competitor. You retype the questions. The Excel results export still works on paid plans, so grab it before you leave.
PowerPoint import flattens your slides
On Basic and Pro you can import a .pptx, .key or PDF, but each slide becomes a static image: animations are gone, speaker notes don't come across, and videos have to be added back by hand. To keep animations, Pro and Enterprise let you embed the deck instead of importing it.
You're leaving because… go to…

Mentimeter alternatives, tool by tool
For each tool: why move to it, who it's for, its limit, how to bring your Mentimeter questions over, and what it costs. Prices are the ones shown on official pages in 2026, in US dollars and before tax. When a pricing page doesn't show an amount, we don't make one up. For classroom quizzes, our ranking of quiz tools for education goes further, and our presentation software comparison covers the slides themselves.
The tools
Slido: the most generous free plan for meetings and events
The meetings free tierWhy move to Slido. Slido's free cap is counted per slido (an event space), not per month: up to 100 participants, with 3 polls and 1 quiz. Run a weekly team meeting, create one slido per meeting, and you never hit a wall, where Mentimeter stops at 50 people for the whole month.
Who it's for. Managers, HR teams and event organizers who mostly want moderated Q&A plus a few polls.
Who it's not for. A teacher running ten quiz questions per class: 3 polls per free slido runs out fast.
Its limit. Participants add up inside one slido. That's Slido's official rule: reusing one slido for two 75-person sessions means 150 participants, which is over the cap. Paid plan amounts (per event or yearly) aren't listed openly on the pricing page, so check them before you commit.
How to switch. No Mentimeter import. Rebuild your questions from your Excel results export, three polls and one quiz per free slido. Tip: create one slido per session from day one; that's Slido's own fix for the cap.
- Free
- 100 participants per slido
- Paid
- per event or yearly
- Best for
- meetings, Q&A, events
- Limit
- 3 polls per free slido
Poll Everywhere: built for big rooms and teams
Large audiencesWhy move to Poll Everywhere. For $10 a month billed yearly ($120 a year), the Present plan takes 700 participants. Mentimeter Basic costs $11.99 a month for one presenter. If your problem is audience size, Poll Everywhere is the most direct paid fix.
Who it's for. Universities, speakers and teams presenting to hundreds.
Who it's not for. Small groups on a free plan: Intro stops at 40 participants, fewer than Mentimeter's 50.
Its limit. Advanced features climb fast: Engage is $49 a month billed yearly ($588) or $99 month to month, Teams $84 a month billed yearly ($999) or $249 monthly. Present is yearly only.
How to switch. Retype from your Mentimeter export. Rebuild only your next session first; it's faster than moving your whole library at once.

- 40 participants
- Paid
- Present $10/mo, billed yearly
- Best for
- lecture halls, 700 participants
- Limit

Vevox: 100 free and a readable entry price
100 free per sessionWhy move to Vevox. Vevox gives away what Mentimeter charges for: 100 participants per session with no monthly counter, plus basic polls, quizzes and Q&A, and PowerPoint and Teams integrations. When you pay, prices are on the page: Starter at $11.95 a month ($143.40 a year) for 250 participants, Pro at $24.95 a month for 1,500, or $19.96 ($239.52 a year) for the first year with code ENGAGE.
Who it's for. Trainers, universities and companies that want anonymous voting and Q&A for 100 to 1,500 people.
Who it's not for. Audiences that want games, leaderboards and music: Vevox stays plain.
Its limit. One user on Free. Prices are shown per month with the yearly total ($143.40 for Starter), so confirm the billing period at checkout. Code ENGAGE only applies to a single license bought online. Worth knowing: full refund within 30 days of purchase if the account hasn't run a session with 3 or more participants.
How to switch. Retype from your Mentimeter export. Free is enough to rebuild and rehearse your first session before you cancel.
- Free
- 100 participants per session
- Paid
- Starter $11.95/mo
- Best for
- training, anonymous voting
- Limit
- 1 user on Free
AhaSlides: the closest thing to Mentimeter
Easiest switchWhy move to AhaSlides. It looks and works the most like Mentimeter: slides, word clouds, quizzes, Q&A. The difference is the free cap: 50 live participants per session with unlimited presentations, instead of 50 participants across the month.
Who it's for. Trainers and small teams who want to keep their Mentimeter habits without the monthly counter.
Who it's not for. A 200-person all-hands on Free: past 50, extra participants can't join (the session itself keeps going).
Its limit. The pricing page has monthly and yearly toggles but doesn't list each plan's amount in its text. Check the price for your audience size before paying.
How to switch. AhaSlides imports PowerPoint slides and has a PowerPoint add-in. Easiest route: grab your original .pptx, import it, then rebuild the interactive questions on top.
- Free
- 50 live participants
- Paid
- monthly or yearly
- Best for
- trainers, workshops
- Limit
- extra participants turned away
Wooclap: built for the classroom
For educatorsWhy move to Wooclap. Wooclap is a Belgian company built for teaching, with question import from Excel and Moodle on paid plans. Its free Starter plan takes up to 1,000 participants per event, but only 5 questions a month.
Who it's for. Higher education, schools and trainers who use a learning management system (LMS).
Who it's not for. A company that just wants a poll in a meeting: 5 free questions a month is too few.
Its limit. Basic and Pro (per presenter, billed yearly, before tax) don't show their amounts in the page text; you go through the selector or sales. Corporate plans start at 6 presenters.
How to switch. Wooclap imports questions from an Excel file on Basic and up. Paste your Mentimeter questions into Wooclap's Excel template instead of retyping them one by one.
- Free
- 5 questions/mo, 1,000 participants
- Paid
- Basic and Pro, billed yearly
- Best for
- classrooms, LMS users

- 5 questions/mo on Free
Kahoot! 360: when your audience wants to play
Competitive quizzesWhy move to Kahoot! 360. If you mostly used Mentimeter for quizzes, Kahoot! does that better: timer, points, leaderboard, music. Kahoot! 360 is the plan for companies and trainers: Pro Start costs $9 a month, $108 a year, for 50 participants.
Who it's for. Offsites, end-of-training recaps and team events where energy matters more than nuance.
Who it's not for. Anonymous voting or serious Q&A: a speed leaderboard feels wrong on a sensitive topic.
Its limit. Free Express stops at 15 minutes and 15 participants, and Pro plans are yearly only, in US dollars before tax. Our guide to leaving Kahoot! covers the rest of its pricing.
How to switch. Kahoot! imports quiz questions from an .xlsx template. Paste your Mentimeter questions into it: it's the fastest migration path of the six.
- Free
- 15 minutes, 15 participants
- Paid
- Pro Start $9/mo, billed yearly
- Best for
- team quizzes, offsites

The 6 alternatives side by side
Our default picks: Slido for meetings on a free plan, Poll Everywhere for big rooms you can pay for yearly, Vevox for groups of up to 250. A quick example: a trainer running two 40-person sessions a month. Mentimeter Free lets the second one through using the once-a-month overage, but would block a third; Basic costs $143.88 a year before tax, while Vevox Free covers both (100 per session) and so does Slido Free (one slido per session).

Leaving Mentimeter in six steps
Order matters: most losses happen when people cancel before exporting, or find the new tool's limit on the day of the session.
The steps
List what you actually use
Day 1Open each active presentation and note its question types (word cloud, multiple choice, quiz, Q&A), audience size and where you present (PowerPoint, Google Slides, Teams). You'll see right away whether Slido's 3-poll limit or Wooclap's 5 questions will get in your way.
- Time
- one hour
Export results and slides before you cancel
Before cancelingIn each presentation's Results tab, download the Excel export (by question or by voter) and the PDF of your slides. These exports need a paid plan, so do it while your subscription is still running. On Free, your presentations stay open in the editor: copy the questions by hand or paste them into Wooclap's or Kahoot!'s Excel template.
- Formats
- XLSX and PDF
- Plan needed
- Basic or higher
Turn off auto-renewal right away
Save moneySwitch off renewal in your account settings. You keep paid access until the end of the period, so there's no rush on exports, but a renewal that has already gone through isn't refunded. Do it the day you decide, not the week it's due.
- Access
- until the paid period ends
Rebuild your questions in the new tool
Start from your Excel export or, on Free, from the Mentimeter editor. Wooclap and Kahoot! import Excel; AhaSlides imports PowerPoint slides; Slido, Vevox and Poll Everywhere need retyping. Start with your next session, not your whole library.
- Excel import
- Wooclap, Kahoot!
Rehearse with five phones
Run the session with a few colleagues: join code, display in PowerPoint or Teams, Q&A moderation. That's where you find out a reused slido stacks participants, or that AhaSlides Free stops the 51st person.
- Time
- 15 minutes
Switch, then keep Mentimeter on Free
Once the new tool works, let your Mentimeter account drop to Free instead of deleting it. Your presentations and results stay viewable, although those using paid features won't be fully usable.
- Risk if rushed
- lost history

What makes a Mentimeter exit go wrong
None of these is technical. They're oversights, and each one costs you a broken session in front of an audience.
Canceling before exporting
No paid plan, no Excel or PDF export. Export everything while you're still subscribed.
Missing the renewal
A renewal that went through isn't refunded. Turn it off the day you decide.
Comparing limits that count differently
Mentimeter counts per month, Slido per slido, Vevox and AhaSlides per session. Bring it back to your real use: sessions per month and your largest audience.
Reusing the same event space
On Slido, participants add up inside one slido. One slido per session avoids the block.
Forgetting presenters
Mentimeter and Wooclap charge per presenter. Count the colleagues who present, not just the sessions.
Finding the limit on the day
40 participants on Poll Everywhere Free, 15 minutes on Kahoot! Express: always rehearse in the real format.
Mentimeter alternative: frequently asked questions
Is there a free Mentimeter alternative with no participant limit?
Not with no limit at all, but Wooclap Starter takes up to 1,000 participants per event (only 5 questions a month). For everyday use, Slido and Vevox go to 100 participants per slido or per session, with no monthly counter. Mentimeter stops at 50 a month across the account.
What's the best Mentimeter alternative for teachers?
Wooclap if you want up to 1,000 participants per event (5 free questions a month, paid plans billed yearly). Kahoot! if your students like competing. Mentimeter's own education plans start at $8.99 a month billed yearly, so compare that first if you like the tool and only hit the cap.
Can I move a Mentimeter presentation to Slido or Wooclap?
No direct export exists. You take the Excel results export and the PDF of your slides (paid plan), then retype, or import through Excel at Wooclap and Kahoot!.
Slido or Mentimeter for meetings?
Slido, if your meetings pass 50 people a month on a free plan: it counts 100 participants per slido. Mentimeter keeps the edge on question count: unlimited quizzes and up to 200 slides per presentation on Free, against 3 polls and 1 quiz per slido.
Is there an open-source Mentimeter alternative?
Yes: Particify, the successor of the university tool ARSnova, is open source and free in its basic version, with servers in Germany. Its paid model isn't detailed publicly, and one university reports time-limited sessions on the free version, so check before a class. If you're really replacing a form, read our guide to leaving Google Forms.
Which Mentimeter alternative keeps data in Europe?
Two options stand out. Wooclap is a Belgian company, and Particify, the open-source successor of ARSnova, runs its servers in Germany. For a school or public body under GDPR, ask each vendor for its data processing agreement before you sign.
What's the best alternative for game-style quizzes?
Kahoot! 360, with a timer and leaderboard. Pro Start is $9 a month billed yearly for 50 players. For schools, our guide to leaving Kahoot! also compares classroom quiz tools.
