Overview

What changes when Claude runs your numbers through Aiwyn

Aiwyn, formerly Column Tax, runs a tax calculation engine for US returns. With this connector you hand Claude your documents, a W-2 for instance, and it walks the engine's pipeline for you: it picks the right forms, checks the inputs, calculates the federal return alone or with one state return, and can produce a downloadable return PDF.

A first estimate from a W-2. tax_simple_return gives Claude a starter structure, an example and a guide for a simple scenario, and calculate_tax returns a summary of the calculation.

Catching mistakes before the math. check_tax validates the inputs first and flags errors and partial disqualifications, so you learn what is missing before trusting a figure.

A document to keep. generate_tax_pdf_tool starts the creation of an IRS or state formatted PDF and hands back a job number; Aiwyn documents a separate step to fetch the finished file.

What Claude will not do: no tool is described as filing a return with the IRS or a state, and the directory sheet speaks of estimating. It also covers federal plus 43 state jurisdictions, not every state. And nothing runs by itself: no tool recalculates when a new form arrives in your inbox. That kind of background job belongs to an automation tool, another trade; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

Six words before you start

The vocabulary you will meet with Claude and Aiwyn.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an outside service, so Claude can use it while it answers you.
Tool
One named capability a connector gives Claude. Claude picks the ones it needs by itself; the directory sheet lists each by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you grant the access Claude will use. Given once, per person, and taken back the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before going ahead with something that changes an account, shown in the conversation when it matters.
Namespace
Aiwyn's word for one block of input, such as a W-2 or a form 1040 section. Each has a schema that says what it expects.
MCP
The shared standard behind connectors: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside engine such as Aiwyn's.
Connect

Connect Aiwyn Tax to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Aiwyn Tax in Claude

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize, then Connectors, and look for Aiwyn Tax in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector before members can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row and follow the window the service opens. If the link breaks later, Disconnect and connect again; access can also be withdrawn from the service itself.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Look at the authorization screen before accepting. It belongs to the service, not to Claude, and the service decides what the access covers. Then share your documents and ask for an estimate.

Tools

The 9 Aiwyn Tax tools, by what they do

Aiwyn Tax (formerly Column Tax) gives Claude 9 tools: 8 that read your account, 1 that change something in it.

Eight tools look things up or compute without saving anything, one creates a PDF. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads or computes (8)

8 tools

Eight tools that discover, validate and calculate, without creating anything.

check_tax

Checks a prepared return before any calculation and reports validation errors and partial disqualifications, so Claude can tell you what to fix first.

When it helps
you typed your W-2 figures from memory and want to know if anything is malformed before trusting the result.
Watch out
amounts go in as whole dollars, so $19,312.42 is entered as 19312.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

calculate_tax

Computes the full return for the chosen year and jurisdiction and returns a summary of the tax calculation, which Claude can walk you through.

When it helps
you changed jobs mid-year and want a realistic picture of what you will owe before April.
Watch out
Aiwyn places input validation before this step, so let Claude run it first.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tax_years

Lists every tax year the engine supports, which tells Claude which year codes it can use in the other calls.

When it helps
you are catching up on an older return and need to know whether that year is covered at all.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tax_jurisdictions

Returns the jurisdictions available for a given tax year, federal and states, so Claude can confirm your state is handled before building anything.

When it helps
you moved to Arizona last year and want to know if a state return there is possible.
Watch out
coverage is federal plus 43 state jurisdictions, not all of them.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tax_namespace_schema

Fetches the schema of one namespace, as a summary or in full, so Claude knows exactly which fields a W-2 or a state form expects.

When it helps
your situation includes a dependent and Claude needs the precise fields for that part of the return.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tax_namespaces

Lists the input namespaces for one jurisdiction and one tax year, the two parameters it takes, showing Claude which input blocks a return there can contain.

When it helps
filing in California, you want to see which input blocks a state return there takes.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

tax_simple_return

Gives Claude a curated list of namespaces, an example input and a step-by-step guide for a scenario, either simple or with dependents. Aiwyn says to call it first.

When it helps
you are single with one W-2 and just want a working estimate fast.

Sourcedocs.columntax.com · October 1, 2026 ↗

generate_uuid_v5

Produces a deterministic identifier that ties a state entry back to its federal counterpart, which Aiwyn requires when a state block extends a federal list.

When it helps
your California return must point to the right federal W-2 among several.
Watch out
Aiwyn warns that a wrong identifier causes silent data loss.

What Claude creates (1)

1 tool

One tool that produces a document. No source describes a confirmation for it: the general rule below applies.

generate_tax_pdf_tool

Approval: see the rule

Launches the creation of an IRS or state formatted PDF of your return in the background and returns a job number; Aiwyn then describes polling for the download link.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation for this tool, so the general approval rule applies.
When it helps
you want a 1040 PDF to review line by line with your accountant.

Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your confirmation before any action it carries out on an account on your behalf. No source says whether that prompt appears for any Aiwyn tool, including the one that creates a PDF.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether members may let certain actions through without being asked each time. They can also restrict what a connector may do for the whole organisation, keeping lookups and calculations while closing document creation, for example. Nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude also works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing beyond them.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. That information, connector by connector, is published nowhere: a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organisation before members can connect. For this connector's current state, the directory sheet is the place to check.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a new tax form lands in your mailbox.

The verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic writes on every sheet that it does not choose which tools a publisher exposes. Everything here comes from Aiwyn's documentation and the directory sheet; no Claude help article covers this connector. The sources also disagree on how many tools there are, detailed below. To compare with a connector built around a team's records, see the Claude activecampaign connector.

Two official sources disagree

How many tools does the Aiwyn Tax connector expose?

  • Claude directory sheet ↗October 2026Nine tools, among them generate_tax_pdf_tool, but no separate tool to fetch the finished PDF.
  • Aiwyn documentation ↗undated, read October 2026A tenth tool polls the PDF job for its status and download link, after generation has started.

What this page followsThe publisher documents a tool the directory does not list. For what Claude actually exposes, the directory sheet is the reference: check it on your account, and if the PDF never comes back, that missing step is the likely reason.

FAQ

Claude Aiwyn Tax connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the Aiwyn Tax connector?
Claude can prepare a US tax estimate with Aiwyn's engine while it answers you. Its nine tools list supported years, jurisdictions and input blocks, fetch the schema of each block, give a starter structure for simple or dependent scenarios, validate inputs, calculate the federal return alone or with one state, create linking identifiers between state and federal entries, and start the generation of a return PDF. You share your documents, such as a W-2, and Claude chooses the steps.
02Can Claude file my return or change anything with Aiwyn?
One tool creates something: it starts the generation of an IRS or state formatted PDF and returns a job number. The other eight only look things up, validate or calculate, without saving anything. No tool is described as filing a return with the IRS or a state, and the directory itself talks about estimating. Keep in mind that a tool list is an observed floor, since an administrator can open actions shown on no public sheet.
03Does Claude ask before generating a tax PDF?
By default Claude asks for confirmation before any action it carries out on an account for you. No source describes a confirmation specific to the PDF generation tool or to any other Aiwyn tool, so only that general rule is documented. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let certain actions run without a prompt, and they can restrict what the connector may do across the organisation.
04Which Claude plans include the Aiwyn Tax connector?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets displays it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. Aiwyn's documentation does not mention Claude plans either. The connector's directory sheet is the only place that shows its current state for your account.
05Does Claude see all my tax data in Aiwyn?
Claude works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing beyond them. In practice, the documented tools work on the information you give Claude in the conversation, such as figures from a W-2, which Claude assembles into inputs for the engine. Aiwyn's documentation describes calculation and PDF generation, not a stored history of past returns that Claude could browse, so this page cannot say more about stored data.
06Why did my state figures come out wrong?
The most likely cause, according to Aiwyn, is linking. When a state namespace extends a federal list, each state entry must carry a deterministic identifier generated from the federal one with the dedicated tool. Matching relies on those identifiers, not on the order of entries, and a wrong one causes silent data loss, with no error to warn you. So ask Claude to generate the identifiers with that tool, then to validate the inputs before calculating, and check the state figures against your own documents.
07Claude or an automation tool for Aiwyn Tax?
They answer different needs, so the use decides, not a ranking. Claude with this connector suits a conversation: you share your documents, it checks, calculates and explains the result, then generates the PDF. An automation tool runs in the background on a trigger or a schedule, without anyone asking. This connector has no background mode of its own: nothing is checked or calculated until you ask Claude for it in a conversation.
