Overview

Why plug your budget sheet into Claude

Tiller drops your bank transactions into a spreadsheet. The connector means no more filtering columns or exporting CSVs: you ask Claude a money question the way you'd ask a friend, it pulls the rows from your sheet itself, and the answer comes back in the chat using your own category names.

See exactly where the money went. query_transactions queries your transactions. Tiller says Claude reaches your transactions, categories and other Tiller data this way, with nothing to export or paste by hand.

Use the words your sheet uses. list_categories returns your category list. That matters because Claude sticks to exact names: ask about "Dining Out" when the category is called "Restaurants" and nothing matches.

Clear the uncategorized backlog. update_transactions writes to the Transactions tab, assigning categories and adding notes. Tiller describes a two-step exchange where Claude first shows its proposed categories, then asks whether to apply them.

Now the parts the directory sheet leaves out. Writing only works on Direct Fills sheets. Claude retrieves 500 transactions per call and pages through the rest, so a full-year review runs slower. Categories marked "hide from reports" are excluded by default. And nothing runs on its own: no tool fires when a new charge lands. That job belongs to an automation tool, which is a different trade; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The jargon, in one minute

Five terms you'll run into while connecting Tiller.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs by itself, and the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
Tiller's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person and withdrawn the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before finishing something that changes your account, shown in the chat right when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on, the piece that lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect Tiller to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Tiller in Claude

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Tiller in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to switch the connector on first so members can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Hit Connect on its row and sign in through the window Tiller opens. If the link breaks later, choose Disconnect and connect again. Tiller notes you can manage or disconnect it at any time from Settings → Connectors.

  3. 03

    Check the authorization screen

Read the authorization screen before you accept. It belongs to Tiller, not Claude, and it decides what the access covers. You can also pull that access back later from your Tiller account.

Tools

All 4 tools, grouped by what they do

Tiller gives Claude 4 tools: 2 that read your account, 1 that change something in it, and 1 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it changes, and what no official source describes. Tool names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (2)

2 tools

Two tools that look at your sheet without touching it.

list_categories

Brings your category names into the chat exactly as they're spelled in your sheet. Claude then works from those labels for every answer, with no fuzzy matching or synonyms.

When it helps
before asking about grocery spend, to check whether your category is "Groceries" or "Food".
Watch out
categories flagged "hide from reports" are left out by default; Tiller says a missing item may be hidden in your category settings.

query_transactions

Reads your transactions straight from Tiller, so you can ask Claude about your spending without exporting the sheet or pasting rows into the chat.

When it helps
a question about what went out in a given category over a given period.
Watch out
each call returns 500 transactions at most; past that Claude pages through and the answer takes longer.

What Claude changes (1)

1 tool

One tool that writes to the Transactions tab, after you confirm according to Tiller.

update_transactions

Asks you first

Saves changes into the Transactions tab of your sheet: a category on rows that were blank, or a note on a specific charge.

What Claude asks for
per Tiller, it lays out the categories it plans to apply and asks whether to go ahead.
When it helps
transactions in your sheet are still without a category.
Watch out
writing only works on Direct Fills sheets.

Undocumented (1)

1 tool

The directory publishes this name and nothing else. No official text says what it does, and we won't guess from the name.

list_spreadsheets

This name is on the directory's tool list, and that's all we know. Neither Tiller's help article nor any Claude page describes it, so this page gives it no capability, read or write.

Watch out
whatever it does, the general approval rule further down applies to it.
Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before every action it takes on an account for you. The request shows up in the chat at the moment it counts.

Tiller describes that moment for its connector: Claude lists the categorization it intends to apply, then waits for your reply before touching the sheet. Tiller also warns that an "Always Allow" prompt may pop up several times along the way. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members can let some actions through without being asked again, and can shut off writing for the whole org. Claude works with your Tiller access and nothing beyond it.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Nobody publishes that answer connector by connector.

Anthropic does publish a general rule: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner turns each one on for the org first. Tiller has its own line on the topic, set side by side with Anthropic's in the limits section. For the live status, check the Tiller sheet in the official directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector isn't an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing kicks off when a new transaction syncs.

Only Tiller documents this connector: neither Claude's help center nor Anthropic's developer docs have a page on it, so everything below comes from the publisher's help article dated August 2026. The directory's partner badge isn't a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it doesn't choose a publisher's tools or guarantee how they behave. Tiller also flags that its ready-made prompts haven't been thoroughly tested.

Two official sources disagree

Which Claude plans can use this connector?

What this page followsNeither text is out of date. Tiller speaks about its own connector, Anthropic about all of them, and neither settles it for your account. Check the directory sheet while signed in: that's where the current status lives.

FAQ

Claude Tiller connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the Claude Tiller connector?
Claude answers budget questions by reading your Tiller spreadsheet directly, with nothing to export. Two documented tools read: one queries your transactions, the other lists your categories under their exact names. A third writes to the Transactions tab to set categories and add notes. The fourth tool on the sheet has no source describing it, so this page assigns it no role. Tiller also offers ready-made prompts, which it says haven't been thoroughly tested.
02Can Claude edit my Tiller spreadsheet?
Yes, within a narrow scope: update_transactions writes to the Transactions tab to categorize charges and add notes. Before applying anything, Claude lays out how it plans to categorize and asks whether to go ahead, per Tiller. Tiller limits that writing to sheets fed by Direct Fills. No source describes deleting anything. Everything else on the sheet is reading, and that's an observed floor rather than a promise, since an admin can open more than a public sheet shows.
03Does Claude ask before it categorizes my transactions?
Yes, according to Tiller. Claude first shows how it plans to categorize each transaction, then asks whether you want the edits applied, and it only writes once you answer. That also matches Claude's default rule for any action taken on an account on your behalf. Tiller notes that an Always Allow prompt may appear a few times during the exchange. On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners decide whether some members can skip those prompts.
04Which plans is the connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability for a given connector, and no directory sheet displays it. Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. Tiller publishes its own statement on the subject, quoted in the limits section of this page. The directory sheet, viewed from your account, remains the up-to-date reference.
05Does Claude see all of my Tiller data?
No. Claude works with your access and nothing beyond it, so whatever your Tiller account can't open stays closed to Claude too. Tiller adds that it doesn't store that data anywhere and that access is explicit, scoped and transient. Categories hidden from reports are excluded by default, and if you have several spreadsheets Claude asks which one you mean. In a company workspace, an owner can narrow what the connector is allowed to do even further.
06Why can't Claude find one of my spending categories?
Usually because the name doesn't match exactly. Claude uses the labels in your sheet as they are and doesn't look for synonyms, so ask it to list your categories first and then rephrase with the right one. The other cause Tiller documents is a category set to hide from reports, which is excluded by default; Tiller points to your category settings. Over a long date range, the 500-transaction limit per call can also slow the answer down.
07Claude or an automation tool for Tiller?
They do different jobs, so pick by use case. Claude fits when you want to ask a question about your spending or have a batch of transactions categorized during a conversation, approving as you go. An automation tool fits when something has to happen on its own, such as on every new transaction, because the connector never fires by itself. On the Claude side, keep in mind that Tiller only allows writing back on Direct Fills sheets.
