Claude Firecrawl connectorWhat Claude can do in your Firecrawl account.
The Claude Firecrawl connector exposes 8 tools. 7 search or read public sources (web, pages, papers, code docs), 0 change anything, 1 is undocumented. Here: what Claude can look up, what the sheet leaves out, and the limits Firecrawl sets.

What changes when Claude can search through Firecrawl
Claude knows a lot, but not what was published this morning. With Firecrawl plugged in, it can search the live web, pull the content of a page you name, look through scientific papers and dig into programming sources while it answers. You ask in plain words; Claude picks the right search and brings back material it can quote.
A page read for you. You paste the address of a competitor's pricing page and firecrawl_scrape fetches its content, so Claude can summarize the offer or pull out the fields you asked for.
Literature without the database hunt. A pharmacist wants recent studies on a drug interaction. The four research tools search Firecrawl's index of PubMed, bioRxiv, medRxiv and arXiv abstracts, then Claude sums up what it found.
An answer to a coding question from primary sources. firecrawl_developer_search looks through issues, merged pull requests, READMEs and curated docs, which beats a guess when a library just changed.
Now the limits. The eighth tool, firecrawl_find_tools, is described by no official source. Firecrawl documents crawling, live page interaction and monitoring too, but none of those tools is on the Claude sheet. Nothing here changes an account. And nothing runs on its own: no search fires when a page changes. For watching a site over time you want an automation tool, a different job; the Firecrawl Make integration covers that side, and the Integrations hub lists the rest.
The vocabulary in one minute
Five words you will run into while plugging Firecrawl in.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own, and the directory lists them by name.
- Authorization
- The sign-in screen of Firecrawl itself, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person, and you can take it back.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with something that changes your account, shown right in the chat.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Firecrawl.
Plug Firecrawl into Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Firecrawl in Claude
In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Firecrawl in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to switch the connector on before each member can connect.
- 02
Start the connection
Click Connect on the Firecrawl row, then sign in to Firecrawl in the window the service opens itself. If the link ever breaks, use Disconnect and plug it back in.
- 03
Read the authorization screen
Read the authorization screen before you approve it. It belongs to Firecrawl, not to Claude, and it decides what the access covers. You can also withdraw that access later from your Firecrawl account.
The 8 tools of the Claude Firecrawl connector
Firecrawl gives Claude 8 tools: 7 that read your account, 0 that change something in it, and 1 no official source describes.
Two groups: what Claude looks up, and what no official source describes. The names stay the ones Claude shows, in English.
- 7 read
- 1 not documented
What Claude looks up (7)
7 toolsSeven tools that search or read public sources and change nothing in your account.
firecrawl_developer_search
Answers programming questions from primary sources: issues, merged pull requests, READMEs and curated documentation. Claude gets the text behind the answer, not a forum guess.
firecrawl_research_inspect_paper
Part of the research family that works on Firecrawl's paper index, covering PubMed, bioRxiv, medRxiv and arXiv. Firecrawl describes its four research tools as one family and does not say which does what.
firecrawl_research_read_paper
Another member of the research family. Together, Firecrawl says, these tools find papers, read passages from inside one and follow citations, without assigning each job to a named tool.
firecrawl_research_related_papers
Third tool of the same family, reading from the same scientific index. The sources cover it only through the family description, so this note stays at that level.
firecrawl_research_search_papers
Last tool of the research family. The family lets you ask for studies in plain words while Claude queries Firecrawl's index of PubMed, bioRxiv, medRxiv and arXiv abstracts; Firecrawl does not tie that search to this tool in particular.
firecrawl_search
Searches the web when you have a question rather than an address. Claude receives results it can read and quote, then builds its reply on them.
firecrawl_scrape
Reads one page you already know the address of and returns its content, or structured fields when you ask for them. Claude works from clean text rather than a cluttered web page.
Undocumented (1)
1 toolThe directory publishes this name and nothing else. No official text says what it does, and this page will not guess from a name.
firecrawl_find_tools
This name is on the directory sheet, and that is all anyone publishes about it. Firecrawl's tool page does not list it, and no Claude page mentions it, so the page stops there.
What Claude asks before it acts
By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it carries out on an account for you. The request shows up in the conversation, at the moment it matters.
On a Team or Enterprise workspace, the owners decide whether a member can let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, for instance keep reading open and close writing. That setting applies to everyone, and nobody gets around it from their own account. Claude also works with the access you grant to Firecrawl and nothing more.
Which plans include it
Out of the 819 sheets in the official directory, not one shows availability by plan. The connector by connector answer is published nowhere: that is a real gap in the catalogue.
The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, while desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organization before each member can connect. For the current status, check the Firecrawl sheet in the official directory from your own account.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a page changes, a paper comes out or a competitor updates a price.
This connector is documented only by its publisher: no Claude help page covers it. The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise, since an admin can open actions that no public sheet shows. The directory's partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes and does not guarantee they behave as announced. Plug in what comes from a publisher you trust, here Firecrawl itself.
