Overview

What changes for community managers

Running a customer community means hopping between dashboards, the moderation queue and the leaderboard. With the connector, a community manager asks Claude one question, and Claude picks the right Gainsight tool, reads the data your role can see and answers in plain words, without an export.

Start the day with what needs attention. Ask what is waiting for you this morning: admin_moderation_overview surfaces trashed content and posts carrying moderation labels, and admin_recognition_overview shows this week's top point earners worth a public shout-out.

Prepare the quarterly review. analytics_community_health compares users, content, traffic, Q&A and gamification with the previous period, and analytics_content_performance flags unanswered questions and slow response times.

Hear what members are saying. search_discussions finds posts on a topic so Claude can sort them into questions, complaints and feature requests, or run a quick sentiment read.

What it will not do: Gainsight states that the admin tools are read-only and that community data cannot be modified through the connector. Claude will not approve a post, award a badge or move a topic. It does not run on its own either: no alert fires when a question goes unanswered for days. Recurring routines of that kind belong to an automation tool, a different job gathered on our Integrations page. If product ideas feed a roadmap board, the Claude asana connector can sit next to this one.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while connecting your community.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the tools it needs on its own; the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in and consent screen, where you grant the access Claude will use. Given once per person, and revocable.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before doing something that changes an account, shown in the chat when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service like Gainsight.
Connect

Plug your Gainsight community into Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find the connector in Claude

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Gainsight Customer Communities. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector before members can sign in individually.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row, then sign in on the page Gainsight opens: it asks for your community's address, then your community credentials. If the link breaks, use Disconnect and reconnect.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Read Gainsight's authorization screen before you approve. It belongs to Gainsight, not to Claude, and the permissions it lists depend on your community role. Access granted there can be withdrawn later.

Tools

The 13 tools, sorted by what they do

Gainsight (Customer Communities) gives Claude 13 tools: 12 that read your account, 0 that change something in it, and 1 no official source describes.

Twelve tools read your community; one is listed by name and described nowhere. Which ones you actually get depends on your community role. Names stay in English, as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (12)

12 tools

Twelve read-only tools across admin, analytics and search. Gainsight says none of them modifies community data.

admin_community_structure

Walks the category tree, shows the content in each category and gives visible topic counts, so Claude can describe how your community is organised.

When it helps
you are planning a reorganisation and want to see which categories are nearly empty.
Watch out
admin tools are visible to admins, community managers and moderators only.

admin_moderation_overview

Reports the state of the moderation queue, including trashed content and posts that carry moderation labels, so Claude can brief you on what waits for review.

When it helps
a moderator comes back from a week off and wants to know where things stand.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

admin_recognition_overview

Reads the all-time and weekly leaderboards, available badges, one member's rank and their points history.

When it helps
you want to thank this week's most helpful members in the Friday newsletter.
Watch out
it reports badges; it does not hand any out.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

admin_user_overview

Looks up a member by ID, email or username and shows their current role assignments, useful before you escalate or promote someone.

When it helps
a customer says they lost moderator rights and you want to check what role they hold today.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

analytics_audience

Returns pageview trends, visitor segments such as contributors, reactors and viewers, and breakdowns by section or content type.

When it helps
marketing asks whether the new onboarding section actually gets read.
Watch out
analytics tools are reserved for admins and community managers.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

analytics_community_health

Gives an overall performance view with a period-over-period comparison across users, content, traffic, Q&A and gamification, so Claude can say at a glance whether the community is growing or slipping.

When it helps
the quarterly business review needs one slide on how the community is doing versus last quarter.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

analytics_content_performance

Covers topic and reply analytics, Q&A metrics, response times, helpfulness ratings and content gaps such as unanswered questions, all in one read for Claude to sort through.

When it helps
you want to know which categories leave customers waiting longest for an answer.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

analytics_individual_user_profile

Pulls an individual member's profile and activity details from the analytics side, going deeper than the admin lookup on a single person.

When it helps
you are preparing an invitation to a champions programme and want that member's track record.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

analytics_product_ideas

Shows the status of the idea pipeline, the top-voted ideas and the ideas already delivered.

When it helps
a product manager wants the most requested ideas before roadmap planning.
Watch out
Claude only reads the pipeline here; an idea's status stays exactly where your team left it.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

search_discussions

Finds community posts, topics and discussions on a subject, which Claude can then classify or summarise for you.

When it helps
you need every thread mentioning a new pricing plan before you answer an angry post.
Watch out
accuracy depends on the quality and completeness of your community's data.

Sourcecommunities.gainsight.com · May 27, 2026 ↗

search_unified

Queries community posts, topics and indexed content through the connector. Gainsight describes it in the same line as the discussion search and does not spell out how the two differ, so this page does not either.

When it helps
you want a picture of everything published about an integration, whatever the format, before a partner meeting.

Undocumented (1)

1 tool

The directory publishes this name and nothing more. No official text says what it does, and this page will not guess from the name.

search_analytics

This name sits in the directory's tool list, and nothing else is known about it. Gainsight's setup article does not describe it and no Claude page mentions it, so this page stops there.

Watch out
whatever it does, the general approval rule below applies.
Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your confirmation before each action it takes on an account for you. The twelve documented tools here only read, so no write of theirs reaches that rule.

On Team and Enterprise, Claude workspace owners decide whether members can let some actions pass without being asked, and they can restrict what a connector may do for the whole organisation. Nobody bypasses that from their own account. Claude also works with your rights and no more: Gainsight shows each person only the tools that match their community role and the scopes granted at sign-in, nothing broader.

Plans

Which plans include it

Of the 819 sheets in the official directory, none shows availability by plan. The connector-by-connector answer is published nowhere, a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organisation before members can connect. On the Gainsight side, your community role then decides which tools you get. The connector's sheet in the official directory shows its current state.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts by itself when a post is flagged or a question goes unanswered.

By default the sheet only exposes reading, and Gainsight confirms the admin tools are read-only. A public tool list is still an observed floor, not a guarantee. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on every sheet that it does not choose a publisher's tools. Everything here comes from Gainsight's own setup article, still marked beta; neither Claude's help centre nor Anthropic's developer docs cover this connector.

FAQ

FAQ about the Claude Gainsight Customer Communities connector

01What can Claude do with the Gainsight Customer Communities connector?
Claude can search your community and read its analytics and admin state, within what your role allows. The documented tools cover community structure, the moderation queue, leaderboards and badges, member lookup, audience traffic, community health, content performance, individual profiles, the product ideas pipeline, member trends and two kinds of content search. One more tool is listed without any description. You ask questions like which categories have the most unanswered questions, and Claude answers from your data.
02Can Claude moderate posts or edit the community?
No. Gainsight states that the admin tools are read-only and that community data cannot be modified through the connector. Claude can report on the moderation queue, leaderboards or the category tree, but it will not approve or trash a post, award a badge, change a role or move a topic. One tool on the sheet is undocumented, so this page says nothing about it beyond the general approval rule. Any moderation still happens in Gainsight itself.
03Does Claude ask before using the community tools?
No source describes a confirmation specific to any Gainsight tool. The general rule is that Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account on your behalf, and the documented tools here only read. What you do approve is Gainsight's authorization screen at sign-in, whose permissions depend on your community role. On Team and Enterprise, Claude workspace owners also choose which actions pass without a prompt and can restrict the connector for everyone.
04Which Claude plans is this connector available on?
No official source publishes availability by plan, connector by connector, and no directory sheet shows it. Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner turning them on first on Team and Enterprise. Separately, a community admin must enable the Community MCP toggle in Gainsight Control. The connector's sheet in the official directory is the only place showing the current state for your account.
05Does Claude see everything in our community?
No. When you connect, Gainsight authenticates you against your community and shows only the tools that match your role. Admins and community managers get search, analytics and admin tools; moderators get search and admin tools; registered users and super-users get search only. Claude then reads with those rights and nothing more. On the Claude side, a Team or Enterprise owner can additionally restrict what the connector does for the whole organisation.
06Why can't anyone connect even though the connector is in the directory?
Most often because the Community MCP toggle is still off. Gainsight requires a community admin to switch it on in Control, under AI > AI Settings, before any user can connect, and notes that turning it on or off can take some time to apply. Until then, the sign-in simply cannot complete for anyone, whatever their role. If your company filters outbound traffic, IT must allow access to mcp.insided.com as well.
07Claude or an automation tool for Gainsight communities?
They cover different needs, so choose by use. Claude with this connector is for questions you ask in a conversation: what needs moderation, how engagement compares with last quarter, what members say about a topic. It never acts on its own, so it will not ping you when a question sits unanswered or post a weekly digest. Work that must run by itself on a schedule belongs to an automation platform, a different kind of tool rather than a better one.
