Overview

What the Claude Grasshopper Bank connector changes for your finances

Instead of exporting statements and building a spreadsheet, you ask Claude a question about your money the way you would ask a bookkeeper. It reads your Grasshopper accounts and posted transactions itself and answers in the conversation: how much went on client dinners last month, which software subscriptions the business pays for, what the balance looks like today.

A spending breakdown without a spreadsheet. The founder of a small agency wants to know where last quarter's money went. transactions_list returns the transactions, accounts_list the balances and account types, and Claude groups the spending by category and vendor.

A view of what is already scheduled. Before a slow month, a business owner checks which payments are queued. scheduled_transfers_list returns one-time and recurring scheduled transfers, so Claude can list who gets paid and when.

The right statement, located. An accountant asks for the statements from the first quarter. documents_list finds the periodic statements, and Claude hands back a link that opens each one in online banking after you sign in.

What it does not do: the platform behind the connector says the assistant can only read, never move money, so no transfer, payment or account change happens through Claude. Pending transactions do not show up, only posted ones, and Claude cannot display a full statement inside the chat. Nothing runs by itself either: there is no alert when a large payment clears. That kind of monitoring belongs to an automation tool, a different job described from the Integrations hub.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will see while connecting your bank.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already hold, so Claude can consult it while it answers you.
Tool
One named action a connector gives Claude. Claude picks the tools it needs by itself; the directory lists each one by its name.
Authorization
The bank's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and you can take it back.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with a step that touches your account, shown in the chat at that moment.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as your bank.
Connect

Connect Grasshopper Bank to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find the connector

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look for Grasshopper Bank. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector before each member can sign in with their own banking login.

  2. 02

    Sign in to your bank

Click Connect. Then sign in to the bank in the window it opens: that sign-in is run by the bank, not by Claude. If the connection stops working, Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Review the bank's screens

Read the authorization screen before you accept: it belongs to the bank, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. You can withdraw it later from the bank side too.

Retrieves your accounts with their balances, status and account type, which is the starting point for almost any question about where you stand.

When it helps
a freelancer wants today's balance across checking and savings before paying a contractor.
Watch out
the platform's documentation shows an access prompt for account data, with a choice between allowing it once or always.

documents_list

Finds your monthly and periodic statements. Claude sees what each document is and when it was issued, then gives you a link to open it.

When it helps
your accountant needs the last three months of statements for a loan file.
Watch out
the link leads to online banking after sign-in; the full statement is not displayed in the chat.

external_accounts_list

The bank's FAQ mentions it only through linked external accounts: those fully verified appear, those still under verification do not. It sits on the read side because the platform states, in general terms, that the assistant only reads.

When it helps
you want to know why an outside account you just linked is not showing yet.

products_list

Lists the products your bank offers for account opening, which lets Claude answer questions about what else the institution could do for you.

When it helps
a small business owner asks whether the bank has something to help the business save more.

scheduled_transfers_list

Returns transfers already scheduled on your accounts. That covers one-time payments as well as recurring ones, each with its recipient, so Claude can lay out what is about to leave and when.

When it helps
before paying Acme Corp again, check for a queued transfer.

transactions_list

Asks you first

Brings back transactions from one account or several, the raw material for any spending analysis, chart or monthly comparison Claude prepares.

When it helps
you ask for a chart of the last six months of card spending, grouped by vendor.
Watch out
pending transactions are not available, only posted ones, and the platform's guide shows an access prompt for transaction data.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before any action it would carry out on an account for you. On top of that, the bank's platform guide shows dialog boxes asking for access to your account data and your transaction data, where you choose to allow once or always.

The platform also says users must explicitly authorize access to their data for each new chat session. On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners decide whether members may let some actions through without being asked every time, and they can restrict what a connector may do for the whole organization. Claude works with your banking rights, nothing more. And if your online banking is locked, the connector stops working as well, until the bank unlocks the account.

Plans

Which plans it is available on

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. Connector by connector, that answer is published nowhere: a real gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector for the organization before members connect. The bank's platform documentation says something narrower, and even contradicts itself; the limits section sets it out. For the live status, the Grasshopper Bank sheet in the official directory is the place to check.

Limits

Where the Claude Grasshopper Bank connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you; nothing starts on its own when a payment clears.

Only the bank's platform provider documents this connector; Claude's help center has no article on it. A sheet that shows nothing but reading is an observed floor rather than a promise, since an administrator can open actions that appear on no public sheet, and the partner badge is not a security audit: Anthropic says on every sheet that it neither picks the tools a publisher exposes nor guarantees how they behave. Connect it only if you trust the publisher.

Two official sources disagree

Which Claude plans can use the Grasshopper Bank connector?

What this page followsNo side settles it. The platform's two pages disagree with each other, and both describe the custom connector route, while Anthropic's rule covers connectors in the directory. Check the Grasshopper Bank sheet in the directory while signed in to your own account.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Grasshopper Bank connector

01What can Claude do with the Grasshopper Bank connector?
Claude can read your accounts with their balances, status and type, your posted transactions, your one-time and recurring scheduled transfers, your periodic statements, your verified external accounts and the products the bank offers. You ask in plain language, for example how much you spent on software last month, and Claude picks the right tools and answers in the conversation. The bank's platform says the assistant only reads and never moves money.
02Can Claude make a transfer or a payment from my Grasshopper account?
No. The platform behind the connector says the assistant can only perform read functions such as retrieving accounts and transactions, and cannot perform write actions such as making transfers. All six tools on the directory sheet read. A sheet limited to reading is usually a floor rather than a ceiling, but here the bank's own documentation states the read-only rule, so payments stay in online banking where you make them yourself.
03Does Claude ask before it reads my banking data?
Yes, in two ways. By default, Claude asks for confirmation before any action it would take on an account for you. On top of that, the bank platform's setup guide shows dialog boxes asking for access to your account data and transaction data, where you choose Allow once or Allow always, and it says access must be explicitly authorized for each new chat session. Workspace owners on Team and Enterprise can also narrow the connector.
04Which Claude plans is the Grasshopper Bank connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the directory sheets shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. The bank's platform documentation names specific plans, and its two pages do not even agree with each other; the limits section sets them out. Your directory sheet shows your status.
05Does Claude see every account at the bank?
No. Claude works with the banking rights of the person who connected and nothing more: it sees the accounts your own login reaches. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, Anthropic's rule is that each member authenticates individually once an Owner has enabled the connector. And if your online banking access is locked, the platform says the connection stops working too. External accounts appear only once fully verified, so a newly linked account may be missing for a while.
06Why doesn't Claude show this morning's card payment?
Because only posted transactions are returned. The bank platform's FAQ says pending transactions are not available through the connector, so a payment still being processed will not appear until it posts. The same FAQ explains another frequent surprise: the connector reports a total across all accounts including certificates of deposit, while the online dashboard shows available cash without them, and both figures are correct for what they measure. Neither point is a fault in Claude: both come from how the bank's platform serves the data.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with my bank account?
They do different jobs, so this is not a ranking. Claude with this connector suits questions you ask when you need them answered: spending breakdowns, upcoming transfers, a statement you need to find. An automation tool suits jobs that must run on a schedule or react to an event without you, such as a weekly report. The connector never fires by itself, so anything unattended belongs on the automation side.
