What changes when Claude can browse the Hub
The Hugging Face Hub holds a huge catalogue of models, datasets, Spaces and papers, and finding the right one takes time. With the connector, Claude searches the Hub for you while it answers and brings back titles, owners, download counts and links. You describe the need in plain words; you open the right resource instead of scrolling pages of results.
Shortlist a model for a job. A product team needs a model that summarizes support tickets in French. model_search finds candidates, then model_details lets Claude look closer at the ones worth a trial.
Find training or test data. An analyst wants public weather time series. dataset_search turns up candidates and dataset_details gives Claude more on the one that fits, before anyone downloads anything.
Spot a ready-made app or a paper. space_search looks for a Space that already does the job, say transcribing audio, and paper_search finds the research behind a technique you keep hearing about.
Now the limits. Four tools are described by no official source, so this page says nothing about what they do. Nothing on the sheet is described as changing a repository. Hugging Face sets your tools and Spaces on its own settings page, so the list you get can differ from the sheet. And nothing runs on its own. For scheduled jobs, the Integrations hub covers automation tools; for a connector whose sheet mixes reading and writing, see the Claude airtable connector.
The vocabulary in one minute
Five words you will run into while plugging Hugging Face in.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own, and the directory lists them by name.
- Authorization
- The sign-in screen of Hugging Face itself, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person, and you can take it back.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with something that changes your account, shown right in the chat.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Hugging Face.
Plug Hugging Face into Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Hugging Face in Claude
In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Hugging Face in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to switch the connector on before each member can connect.
- 02
Start the connection
Click Connect on the Hugging Face row, then sign in to Hugging Face in the window the service opens itself. If the link ever breaks, use Disconnect and plug it back in.
- 03
Read the authorization screen
Read the authorization screen before you approve it. It belongs to Hugging Face, not to Claude, and it decides what the access covers. You can also withdraw that access later from your Hugging Face account.
The 10 tools of the Claude Hugging Face connector
Hugging Face gives Claude 10 tools: 6 that read your account, 0 that change something in it, and 4 no official source describes.
Two groups: what Claude explores on the Hub, and what no official source describes. The names stay the ones Claude shows, in English.

What Claude explores (6)
6 toolsSix tools that search and explore Hub resources without changing them.
space_search
Looks through the Spaces hosted on the Hub, the small apps the community publishes, and brings back matches with their links. You find an app that already does the job before building one.
model_search
Queries the Hub's model catalogue from your description and returns candidates with owners, downloads and links, so Claude can narrow a long list down to a handful.
model_details
Explores one model more closely once it has been found, bringing its metadata and context into the conversation so Claude can compare it with others.
paper_search
Searches the papers listed on the Hub, so Claude can point you to the research behind a model or a method and summarize it.
dataset_search
Finds datasets on the Hub that match your need and returns them with their links, so you can judge them before downloading a single file.
dataset_details
Explores one dataset more closely once you have picked it from the search, so Claude can weigh it against the other candidates.
Undocumented (4)
4 toolsThe directory publishes these four names and nothing else. No official text says what they do, and this page will not guess from a name.
hf_whoami
This name is on the directory sheet, and that is all anyone publishes about it. Hugging Face's MCP page does not describe it, and no Claude page does either.
hf_doc_search
Same silence here: the sheet shows the name, and no official source documents it. Better to flag the gap than to fill it with a guess drawn from the name.
gr1_flux1_schnell_infer
A name listed on the sheet and nowhere else: Hugging Face's MCP page does not mention it, and no source ties it to a description, so its effect stays unknown here.
gr2_0_abidlabs_easyghiblis_ndition_generate_image
Another name on the sheet, just as silent: no official text says what it returns or whether it touches anything, and Hugging Face's own MCP page does not name it.
What Claude asks before it acts
By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it carries out on an account for you. The request shows up in the conversation, at the moment it matters.
On a Team or Enterprise workspace, the owners decide whether a member can let some actions through without being asked every time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, for instance keep reading open and close writing. That setting applies to everyone, and nobody gets around it from their own account. Claude also works with your Hugging Face access and nothing more.
Which plans include it
Out of the 819 sheets in the official directory, not one shows availability by plan. The connector by connector answer is published nowhere: that is a real gap in the catalogue.
The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, while desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organization before each member can connect. For the current status, check the Hugging Face sheet in the official directory from your own account.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing starts when a model is released, a dataset is updated or a paper is posted.
This connector is documented only by its publisher: no Claude help page covers it. The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise, since an admin can open actions that no public sheet shows. The directory's partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes and does not guarantee they behave as announced. Plug in what comes from a publisher you trust, here Hugging Face itself.
