Overview

What the Claude Informatica Catalog Discovery connector changes for data governance

Instead of clicking through Cloud Data Governance and Catalog (CDGC) screen after screen, you ask Claude where the customer table lives or which datasets fall under GDPR. It searches the catalog on its own, then opens the asset you pick to report its stakeholders, classifications, glossary terms and links to other assets.

Find an asset without its exact name. search_assets takes keywords with typed filters or a plain-English request; typed filters cover class type, resource type, certification, lifecycle, stakeholders and dates. Informatica says keyword mode goes first, with natural language as the fallback when it comes back empty.

Understand an asset before using it. Once the identity is known, get_asset_details returns the full view: stakeholders resolved to names or emails, classification, glossary terms, hierarchy and neighborhood relationships.

Prepare a governance review. Informatica lists reporting by classification, certification status or owner as a use case: ask Claude for the assets with a given certification status, or those a given stakeholder owns.

What Claude does not do with this connector: by default the sheet exposes no tool to edit the catalog, certify an asset or reassign an owner. It also does not read table contents, only metadata; that is the job of another Informatica connector, Data Exploration. And nothing runs by itself. For a scheduled job you need an automation tool, a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while connecting Informatica Catalog Discovery.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and a service, so Claude can work with it while it answers you.
Tool
One named capability the connector opens to Claude. Claude picks the ones it needs, and the directory sheet lists them all.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use from then on. Granted once, and taken back the same way.
Directory
Claude's official catalogue: every connector gets a sheet with its publisher, its purpose and the full list of its tools.
MCP
The shared standard behind connectors: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect Informatica Catalog Discovery to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

Find Informatica Catalog Discovery in your settings

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and locate Informatica Catalog Discovery in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it before you can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Hit Connect on its row, then sign in through the window that the service opens on its own side. If the link ever breaks, use Disconnect and connect it again.

  3. 03

    Review the authorization screen

Read the authorization screen before you accept: it belongs to the service, and it sets what the access covers. You can also revoke that access later from your Informatica Catalog Discovery account.

Tools

The 2 tools in the Informatica Catalog Discovery connector

Informatica Catalog Discovery gives Claude 2 tools: 2 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Both tools read the catalog; neither changes anything in it. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (2)

2 tools

Two tools that browse your metadata without editing it.

get_asset_details

Opens one asset from its identity and returns what Informatica calls 360-degree metadata: stakeholders resolved to names or emails, classifications, glossary terms, hierarchy and the assets around it.

When it helps
before a table goes into a board report, you want to know who owns it and which business term it maps to.
Watch out
the identity has to come from search_assets first.

search_assets

Queries the catalog by keyword or in natural language. Keyword mode is the default, and Informatica advises a retry in natural language when it misses what you expected.

When it helps
you need every dataset tied to the Customer business term without knowing which domain holds them.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it takes on an account for you. Both tools in this connector only read, yet the rule stays in place.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without confirmation. They can also cap what a connector may do across the organization, keeping reads and shutting writes for instance, and nobody bypasses that from a personal account. Claude also works with your access and nothing beyond it: an asset your Informatica profile hides from you stays out of its reach.

Plans

Which plans it is available on

None of the 819 sheets in the directory shows availability by plan. Connector by connector, that information is not published anywhere: a genuine gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organization before members can connect. For the current state, check the Informatica Catalog Discovery sheet in the official directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing kicks off when an asset changes in the catalog.

By default the sheet exposes only reads, but that is an observed floor, not a ceiling: an admin can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes and does not vouch for their behavior. This connector is documented by its sheet and Informatica's guide alone. To compare with another connector's page, see the Claude adobe-workfront connector.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Claude Informatica Catalog Discovery connector

01What can Claude do with the Informatica Catalog Discovery connector?
Claude can search your Cloud Data Governance and Catalog for assets and read their full profile. The first tool queries the catalog by filtered keywords or plain language; the second returns, for one asset, its stakeholders, classification, glossary terms, hierarchy and relationships. Claude uses them during the conversation to locate a table, explain a business term or help you prepare a governance review. It reports what it found in the conversation and leaves the catalog exactly as it was.
02Can Claude change my Informatica catalog?
No, by default the directory sheet exposes only two read tools. Neither creates, edits, certifies nor deletes an asset or a glossary term. That is what the public sheet showed on October 1, 2026, an observed floor rather than a guarantee, since an admin can open actions that do not appear publicly. For any change, you go back to the Informatica interface and use your own permissions there, as you always have.
03Does Claude ask before it acts?
By default, yes: Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for you. No source describes a confirmation specific to the two tools in this connector, which look things up without writing. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether a member may let certain actions through without being asked again, and that choice binds the entire organization, with no exception for an individual account.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes plan availability for this connector, or for any other one. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. The Informatica Catalog Discovery sheet in the directory is the only up-to-date reference, so check it from your own account before rolling the connector out to a whole data team.
05Does Claude see our whole catalog?
Claude works with your access and nothing more: an asset your Informatica profile hides from you stays out of its reach. The server deals with Data Governance and Catalog metadata, meaning names, types, descriptions and relationships, not the rows inside tables. A Team or Enterprise owner can also restrict what the connector may do for the whole organization, and a single member cannot lift that limit from a personal account.
06Do I need an asset's exact name?
No. Search accepts keywords with typed filters such as class type, resource type, certification, lifecycle, stakeholders or dates, and it also takes plain-language sentences. Informatica recommends starting with keywords and switching to natural language when nothing comes back. To open an asset's details, though, you need its identity, which Claude first picks up from the search results. Informatica's guide states that order plainly: search_assets comes first, and get_asset_details only works once it has an identity to open.
07Claude or an automation tool for Informatica Catalog Discovery?
They do different jobs. Claude queries the catalog when you ask a question and helps you make sense of what it finds, inside a conversation. An automation tool is meant to run a task on its own in the background while you are elsewhere, on a schedule for instance. The connector never starts anything by itself: it answers when you call on it and stays idle the rest of the time.
