Overview

What the Claude Informatica Data Exploration connector changes for analysts

Where you used to write a query or open a dashboard, you ask Claude in plain English. It hands the request to CLAIRE, Informatica's exploration agent, which samples, filters, joins and aggregates the rows of a cataloged dataset or pulls a master record from MDM SaaS, and Claude brings the answer back into the chat.

Compute a metric on live data. A retention analyst needs a churn rate: data_explore works through a cataloged dataset on live data and returns that figure among its key insights.

Pull the right customer record before a call. master_data_explore queries the Customer or Product domains in MDM SaaS: merged record, duplicates, match and merge rules, relationships between entities. A follow-up question in the same conversation keeps the context.

Follow a long-running answer. Results stream in: get_skill_execution_updates fetches each slice of finished text CLAIRE has already produced. And if your question relies on a file, request_upload_url issues a single-use upload address.

What Claude does not do here: no listed tool edits a table or a master record; the only write is preparing a file upload into a CLAIRE conversation. It sees only what the user behind the token can see. Nothing runs on its own either: for a scheduled calculation you need an automation tool, a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while connecting Informatica Data Exploration.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and a service, so Claude can work with it while it answers you.
Tool
One named capability the connector opens to Claude. Claude picks the ones it needs, and the directory sheet lists them all.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use from then on. Granted once, and taken back the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it completes an action that changes your account, shown right in the conversation.
MCP
The shared standard behind connectors: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect Informatica Data Exploration to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

Find Informatica Data Exploration in your settings

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and locate Informatica Data Exploration in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it before you can sign in.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Hit Connect on its row, then sign in through the window that the service opens on its own side. If the link ever breaks, use Disconnect and connect it again.

  3. 03

    Review the authorization screen

Read the authorization screen before you accept: it belongs to the service, and it sets what the access covers. You can also revoke that access later from your Informatica Data Exploration account.

Tools

The 4 tools in the Informatica Data Exploration connector

Informatica Data Exploration gives Claude 4 tools: 3 that read your account, 1 that change something in it.

Three tools look things up, one touches your CLAIRE workspace. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

  • 3 read
  • 1 write

What Claude reads (3)

3 tools

Three tools that query your data without changing it.

data_explore

Digs into the raw contents of a cataloged dataset, sampling, filtering, joining and aggregating rows, then surfaces key figures such as a churn rate computed on live data. Informatica describes it as column-level insight on governed data.

When it helps
you want to profile the ORDERS table and list every column holding null values.
Watch out
a vague prompt like show data can lead CLAIRE to ask you a clarifying question instead of answering.

get_skill_execution_updates

Pulls a slice of the live output stream CLAIRE produces after an exploration. Per Informatica, everything in that slice is finished, user-facing text CLAIRE has already written, so nothing in it is a draft.

When it helps
a calculation over a large volume takes a while and you would rather watch the steps scroll by.

master_data_explore

Looks up master records across Customer, Product and other MDM SaaS domains: the merged view of an entity, duplicate detection, match and merge rules, and links between entities.

When it helps
ahead of a renewal call, an account manager wants a customer's full profile and how it connects to another company.

What Claude changes (1)

1 tool

One tool that creates an upload address, and sometimes a CLAIRE conversation. No source describes its confirmation, so the general rule applies.

request_upload_url

Approval: see the rule

Issues a short-lived, single-use address for dropping a file into a CLAIRE conversation, and opens a new conversation when none is named. Later explorations can then draw on that file.

What Claude asks for
no source describes a confirmation specific to this tool, so the general approvals rule is what applies.
When it helps
you want to cross a CSV export from your CRM with a cataloged dataset.
Watch out
the address expires after 5 minutes.

Approvals

What Claude asks before it acts

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before each action it takes on an account for you. Here, the only listed write is preparing a file upload.

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without confirmation, and they can cap what a connector does across the organization, keeping reads and shutting writes for instance. On the Informatica side, the agent inherits the permissions of the user who generated the authentication token: Claude sees what that person sees, and nothing beyond it, however the question is worded.

Plans

Which plans it is available on

None of the 819 sheets in the directory shows availability by plan. Connector by connector, that information is not published anywhere: a genuine gap in the catalogue.

The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner turns the connector on for the organization before members can connect. For the current state, check the Informatica Data Exploration sheet in the official directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing fires when a table is reloaded.

The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise: an admin can open actions that appear on no public sheet. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic says so on every sheet: it does not choose the publisher's tools and does not vouch for their behavior. Beyond its directory sheet, only Informatica's own guide describes these four tools. For catalog metadata rather than rows, the publisher offers a separate connector, Catalog Discovery. To compare with another connector's page, see the Claude affinity connector.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Claude Informatica Data Exploration connector

01What can Claude do with the Informatica Data Exploration connector?
Claude can explore the contents of your cataloged datasets and your master records in plain language. One tool samples, filters, joins and aggregates dataset rows and computes metrics; another queries the Customer or Product domains in MDM SaaS; a third retrieves the streamed answer. The fourth prepares a file upload into a CLAIRE conversation, so your question can lean on that file while you keep talking it through and refining the request.
02Can Claude change my Informatica data?
Not according to the sheet: none of the four listed tools edits a table or a master record. The only write tool creates a single-use upload address, plus a new CLAIRE conversation when none is named, so a file can be dropped in. That list is an observed floor as of October 1, 2026: an admin can open actions that do not appear publicly. To change data, you go through Informatica's own tools with your own permissions.
03Does Claude ask before it acts?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on an account for you. No source describes a confirmation specific to request_upload_url, the only write tool, so this general rule covers it. On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members may let certain actions through without a prompt, and they can shut writes for the whole organization while leaving exploration open for everyone. A member cannot undo that choice from a personal account.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes plan availability for this connector, or for any other. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. On the Informatica side you also need licenses for the services involved. The directory sheet remains the only up-to-date reference for the Claude side, so check it from your own account first.
05Does Claude see all our data?
No, Claude sees what the user who generated the authentication token can see, and nothing more. Informatica states that the agent inherits that user's role-based permissions, and the data exploration privilege is required on top. A token created from a narrow profile therefore limits what Claude can query. On the Claude side, a Team or Enterprise owner can also restrict the connector for the whole organization, and members cannot lift that.
06What does Informatica require before the connector works?
Four prerequisites on the Informatica side, according to the publisher: licenses for Data Governance and Catalog and MDM SaaS, a running Secure Agent with an active connection to the source system, a valid token generated by a user with the right permissions, and the data exploration privilege. The server needs the Secure Agent connection to fetch live data. Go through those four points with your Informatica admin; the agent then inherits the permissions of whoever generated the token.
07Claude or an automation tool for Informatica Data Exploration?
They do different jobs. Claude explores data when you ask a question and helps you read the result, with follow-up questions in the same conversation. An automation tool is meant to run a task on its own in the background, a calculation every Monday for instance. The connector never starts anything by itself: it answers when you call on it and waits the rest of the time, watching nothing in between.
