Claude Microsoft 365 connectorWhat Claude can do in your Microsoft 365 account.
The Claude Microsoft 365 connector exposes 7 tools on its public sheet. All 7 read, 0 write: SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook mail and calendar, Teams chats. Anthropic documents extra write tools that only an administrator can open. Here is the split.

What changes when Claude can search your tenant
Your work is scattered across a SharePoint library, a mailbox, a calendar and a few Teams chats. With this connector, you ask Claude one question and it searches those places itself, with your own Microsoft permissions. It is built for work or school accounts on a Microsoft Entra tenant, not for a personal Outlook address.
Rebuild the history of a project. outlook_email_search finds an email thread by sender and date, and sharepoint_search finds the matching document on SharePoint.
Set up the next meeting. find_meeting_availability looks for a slot that works, and outlook_calendar_search checks what is already booked.
Find what was decided in chat. When a decision only lives in Teams, chat_message_search retrieves the message, and read_resource opens the exact file, email or chat it points to.
What the public sheet does not show. By default, everything here reads. Anthropic's help center describes write tools for mail, calendar, files and Teams, but they stay off until a Microsoft Entra administrator consents and your Claude admins enable them. Nothing runs by itself either: no new email or file wakes Claude up. For that kind of background job, you need an automation tool, a separate job covered on the Integrations hub.
Five terms in one minute
The words you will meet while connecting Microsoft 365.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already use, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing a connector lets Claude do in that account. Claude picks the ones it needs; the directory sheet lists them by name.
- Authorization
- Microsoft's own sign-in screen, where you grant the access Claude will use. Granted once per person and revocable the same way.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes through with something that changes your account, shown in the chat at the right moment.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant such as Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect Microsoft 365 to Claude in three steps
- 01
Find Microsoft 365
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and find Microsoft 365. On Team or Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable the connector for the organization before any member can sign in.
- 02
Sign in with your work account
Click Connect on its row and sign in with your work or school Microsoft account in the window Microsoft opens. If the link breaks later, use Disconnect, then connect again.
- 03
Check the consent screen
Read Microsoft's screen before you accept: it belongs to Microsoft, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. Access can also be withdrawn from the Microsoft side.
The 7 tools, grouped by what they do
Microsoft 365 gives Claude 7 tools: 7 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.
The public directory sheet lists seven tools, all of them reads. Tool names stay in English, exactly as Claude shows them.
- 7 read
What Claude reads (7)
7 toolsSeven tools that search and open content you already have access to in Microsoft 365.
sharepoint_search
Searches documents and pages across SharePoint and returns what matches, within the sites your account can open. Anthropic notes the search runs tenant-wide, which is why it needs broad read access to sites.
sharepoint_folder_search
Locates SharePoint folders by their name, so Claude can point you to where a set of files lives rather than to one document inside it. Like the document search, it relies on read access to SharePoint sites.
outlook_email_search
Looks through your mailbox with sender and date filters and brings back the messages that fit. Shared mailbox access stays read-only.
outlook_calendar_search
Scans your Outlook calendar events, so Claude can tell you what is planned, when, and with whom, based on what is actually on your schedule.
find_meeting_availability
Works out available meeting times from calendar data, so Claude can suggest windows instead of you comparing agendas by hand. Anthropic lists it among the read tools: it relies on calendar read permission and books nothing.
chat_message_search
Searches your Teams chat messages for a topic, a name or a phrase, and returns the matching messages so Claude can quote what was said.
read_resource
Opens a single item by its address, whether a file, an email or a chat, so Claude can read the full content behind a search hit. The permission it relies on varies with the type of item.
What Claude asks before acting
By default, Claude stops and asks before any action it takes on an account for you. On this connector, Anthropic adds rules of its own for the write tools that admins can open.
Every permission is delegated: Claude acts as you and only reaches content you can already open in Microsoft 365, sharing settings and folder rights included. On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members may let actions through without a prompt, and can restrict what the connector may do for everyone. Anthropic's guide states that permissions are read-only by default. Members can also switch individual tools off during a chat.
Which plans include it
Of the 819 sheets in the official directory, none shows plan availability. Connector by connector, that answer is not published on the sheets.
The general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, and on Team and Enterprise an Owner or Primary Owner enables a connector before members can connect. Anthropic's Microsoft 365 guide goes further for this connector, as the limits section shows with its date. Either way, check the connector's sheet in the official directory for the current state.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude uses these tools while it answers; no incoming email, file or Teams message starts anything on its own.
The public sheet shows seven reads, which is a floor rather than a ceiling: Anthropic documents write tools for mail, drafts, calendar, mailbox settings, OneDrive and SharePoint files and Teams messages, opened only after an Entra administrator consents and Claude admins switch them on. Tenants that consented earlier must approve the updated permission set again. The verification badge is not a security audit, even on a connector Anthropic publishes. For other connectors and automation pages, see the Integrations hub.
Which Claude plans can use the Microsoft 365 connector?
- Claude help center, general connector rule ↗September 2026Remote connectors are available to all users; on Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable each connector first.
- Microsoft 365 connector security guide (Claude help center) ↗September 2026Anthropic states the Microsoft 365 connector is available on all Claude plans: Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
What this page followsBoth texts come from Anthropic and do not contradict each other: the general rule covers every connector, the Microsoft 365 guide spells it out for this one. Neither replaces your own check: look at the directory sheet from your account, and remember that Entra tenant consent is required whatever the plan.
