Claude Noteplan connectorWhat Claude can do with the notes on your Mac.
The Claude Noteplan connector exposes 12 tools. 2 read your notes, 10 can change something, from a task line to a calendar event, and 0 are left undocumented. It runs on your Mac, not in an online account: here is what it reaches and how to narrow it.

What changes once Claude can open your NotePlan
NotePlan mixes daily notes, tasks and your Mac calendar in one place. With this connector, you ask Claude in plain words and it reads, searches and edits that material itself. One detail sets it apart from most connectors: NotePlan says everything runs locally on your machine, so there is no NotePlan login involved.
Plan the day from what is already written. You ask what is on your plate today. Claude opens today's daily note with noteplan_get_notes and pulls the day's events through noteplan_eventkit, then gives you one combined view.
Close tasks without hunting for them. You ask Claude to tick off "send the quarterly report". It finds the line across all notes with noteplan_paragraphs and marks it done in the style your task markers already use.
Keep the vault tidy. Moving a batch of notes to an Archive folder, renaming a project folder, saving a task filter: noteplan_folders, noteplan_manage_note and noteplan_filters handle that from the conversation.
Now the limits. This is a desktop extension for Claude Desktop, not a web connector you reach from a browser. By default every folder is in reach and write actions are allowed: NotePlan documents a read-only switch and a folder allowlist, but both are off until someone sets them. Calendar, reminders and UI control lean on macOS itself. And nothing runs on its own: a new note does not wake Claude up. Recurring, unattended jobs belong to an automation tool, which does a different job; the Integrations hub covers that side.
Five words before you install
The vocabulary around this connector, in one minute.
- Connector
- A link you set up once between Claude and something you already use, here your NotePlan notes, so Claude can work with it while it answers.
- Tool
- One named thing the connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the tools it needs by itself, and the directory sheet lists all twelve by name.
- Desktop extension
- A connector installed on your own computer and run by Claude Desktop, rather than a service Claude reaches over the web.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before doing something that changes your notes, shown in the conversation when it matters.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside app such as NotePlan.
Add NotePlan to Claude in three steps
- 01
Open Claude Desktop
Desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop, so start there rather than in a browser. Open the settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look up Noteplan in the list.
- 02
Add it from its row
Start the installation from the Noteplan row. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable a connector before members can use it. If it misbehaves later, remove it and add it again.
- 03
Decide how much it may touch
Out of the box, every folder is reachable and writes are allowed. NotePlan documents an optional read-only mode and folder allow and deny lists. Set them before you hand Claude your whole vault.
The 12 tools, split by what they do
Noteplan gives Claude 12 tools: 2 that read your account, 10 that change something in it.
Each tool groups several actions for one area of NotePlan. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

What Claude reads (2)
2 toolsTwo tools that look through your notes and leave them as they are.
noteplan_get_notes
Retrieves notes in every shape NotePlan stores them: a single note, a list, today's daily note, weekly or other periodic notes, a date range or the contents of a folder.
noteplan_search
Runs full-text or metadata searches across your notes, with filters on frontmatter properties, and can also list the tags and hashtags you use.
What Claude can change (10)
10 toolsTen tools whose actions include creating, editing, moving or deleting something. No source ties a Claude confirmation to any of them, so the general rule below applies.
noteplan_manage_note
Approval: see the ruleCovers a note's whole life: create, rewrite, move, rename, delete, restore, and set or remove its properties.
noteplan_edit_content
Approval: see the ruleChanges the body of a note line by line: insert, append, edit one line, replace a range or delete lines. Targeting a date that has no daily note yet creates that note.
noteplan_paragraphs
Approval: see the ruleWorks at the paragraph level: reads line details, finds lines in one note or tasks across all of them, adds a task with your usual marker, completes or edits it.
noteplan_folders
Approval: see the ruleLists, finds and resolves folders, and creates, moves, renames or deletes them; it also lists your spaces.
noteplan_filters
Approval: see the ruleHandles NotePlan's saved task filters: list them, open one, get the tasks it returns, see its parameters, save a new one or rename it.
noteplan_eventkit
Approval: see the ruleReaches the macOS Calendar and Reminders apps: read events and calendars, create, update or delete events, and read, create, complete, update or delete reminders.
noteplan_memory
Approval: see the ruleKeeps a small store of your preferences, such as formatting and style choices, so they carry over between sessions; Claude can list, save, update or delete entries.
noteplan_ui
Approval: see the ruleDrives the NotePlan app that is open on your Mac: open a note or today's page, run a search, launch a plugin command, switch views, toggle the sidebar, manage plugin windows.
noteplan_plugins
Approval: see the ruleManages NotePlan plugins: list installed and available ones, create, install or delete a plugin, read its source or logs, update its HTML and take a screenshot.
noteplan_themes
Approval: see the ruleLists available themes, opens one, saves a new one and sets which theme is active in NotePlan.
What Claude checks with you first
By default, Claude stops and asks before an action it takes for someone. With ten tools able to change your notes, that default does real work here.
NotePlan adds its own safety net for destructive operations. Deletes, moves, renames and restores go through two steps: a dry run that previews the impact and returns a confirmation token, then a second call with that token. That is a mechanism of the extension, not a Claude screen, and the documentation shows it can be switched off for bulk work. On Team and Enterprise, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without a prompt and can restrict a connector for the whole organization.
Which plans include it
None of the 819 sheets in the official directory states plan availability. For Noteplan, as for every other connector, that answer is published nowhere.
The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, while desktop extensions install on Claude Desktop. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can use it. For the current state of this one, the Noteplan sheet in the official directory is the place to check.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing starts when a note changes or a reminder falls due.
This connector is documented by its publisher only: no Claude help article covers it, and the details here come from the directory sheet and NotePlan's own documentation. The directory's verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it neither picks a publisher's tools nor guarantees their behaviour. NotePlan says the extension runs entirely on your Mac and sends no telemetry. More connectors read the same way sit in the Claude connectors hub.
