Overview

What changes once Claude can reach your Shippo account

You stop switching between a chat window and the Shippo dashboard to answer a simple shipping question. You ask Claude in plain words, and it checks rates, addresses or a parcel status against your own Shippo account, then brings the answer back into the conversation. When a request would spend money, such as a label, Claude asks before it goes ahead.

Pick a carrier with the real numbers in front of you. Shippo says comparing rates and validating addresses are read actions that cost nothing. Claude uses shippo_read_execute_tool for that side, so you can weigh USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL for a parcel before committing.

Buy the label once you agree. Buying a label is a live purchase on your Shippo account. It goes through shippo_write_execute_tool, and Shippo states that write actions like this one ask for confirmation before they run.

Answer a customer who wants to know where the parcel is. Tracking a package bought through Shippo is free, per Shippo, and a quick question to Claude replaces a search in the dashboard.

Now what the connector will not do. There is no test mode: every label bought here is real and billed. Tracking a parcel bought outside Shippo is billable too. And nothing runs on its own: no tool fires when an order lands in your shop. That kind of hands-off flow is the job of an automation tool, a different trade, covered on our Shippo Make integration page.

Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The vocabulary Claude uses around this connector, in one minute.

Connector
A link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing the connector lets Claude do. Claude chooses the tools it needs by itself, and the directory lists them by name.
Authorization
The Shippo sign-in screen where you hand Claude the access it will use. Given once per person, and it can be taken back.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it does something that changes your account, shown in the chat at the right moment.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Shippo.
Connect

Connect Shippo to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Shippo in Claude

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look for Shippo in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector first; each member then signs in on their own.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on the Shippo row, then sign in to Shippo in the window Shippo opens itself. If the link breaks later, use Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Check what the screen lists before you accept. It belongs to Shippo, not to Claude, and it sets what the access covers. You can also withdraw that access later from your Shippo account.

Tools

The 4 tools, split by what they do

Shippo gives Claude 4 tools: 1 that read your account, 1 that change something in it, and 2 no official source describes.

Three groups: what Claude reads, what it changes, and what no official source describes. Tool names stay as Claude shows them.

  • 1 read
  • 1 write
  • 2 not documented

What Claude can read in Shippo

1 tool

One tool for the free side of Shippo: looking things up.

shippo_read_execute_tool

Carries the read side of Shippo: comparing carrier rates, checking an address and following a parcel bought through Shippo. Shippo says these reads do not charge your account.

When it helps
a customer asks for the cheapest option to another state, and you want three carrier prices before you quote.
Watch out
following a parcel that was bought outside Shippo is billed, per Shippo.

What Claude can change in Shippo

1 tool

One tool for everything that changes your account, with a confirmation first.

shippo_write_execute_tool

Asks you first

Handles the actions that change your Shippo account, starting with buying a label. The purchase is real and charged to your live account, since the connector has no test mode.

What Claude asks for
Shippo states that write actions such as buying a label wait for your confirmation before they run.
When it helps
you have agreed on a rate in the chat and want the label now, without opening the dashboard.

Not documented

2 tools

The directory lists these two names and nothing more. No official text says what they do.

shippo_list_tools

This name appears in the directory's tool list and nowhere else. Neither Shippo's documentation nor any Claude page describes it, so this page says nothing more about it.

Watch out
whatever it turns out to be, the general approval rule below still covers it.

shippo_describe_tool

Listed by name on the directory sheet, with no official sentence behind it. We do not guess its role from its name.

Watch out
the approval rule described in the next section is the only thing that applies to it with certainty.
Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on an account for someone. For Shippo, the publisher confirms it for label purchases.

On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether a member may let some actions through without being asked each time. They can also limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, for example leaving reads open and closing writes. Nobody overrides that from a personal account. Claude also works with the rights of the person who connected, nothing more: a Shippo user who cannot buy labels will not see Claude buy one for them.

Plans

Which plans include it

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows plan availability. The answer per connector is published nowhere.

The published rule is general: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector for the organization before members can each connect. For the live state of this one, check the Shippo sheet in the official directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you, so nothing starts when an order comes in or a parcel is delivered.

Everything on this page comes from Shippo's own documentation and the directory sheet: no Claude help page covers this connector. The badge in the directory is not a security audit, and Anthropic says on each sheet that it neither chooses a publisher's tools nor guarantees they behave as announced. Connect it because you trust Shippo as a publisher, and keep in mind that a label bought by mistake is a real charge. For the wider catalog, browse our Integrations hub.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Shippo connector

01What can Claude do with the Shippo connector?
Claude can look up and act on your Shippo account from a conversation. One documented tool covers reads such as comparing carrier rates, validating addresses and tracking parcels bought through Shippo, and another covers actions that change the account, starting with buying a label. The directory sheet also describes shipments, refunds, customs, pickups, manifests and batch shipments as part of the connector. Two further tools are listed by name only, with no description in any official source.
02Can Claude buy labels or change things in Shippo?
Yes, through the write tool, and Shippo is clear that it is real. The connector works on your live Shippo account with no separate test mode, so a label bought through Claude is charged like any other. Reads are a different story: comparing rates and validating addresses cost nothing, and tracking a parcel bought through Shippo is free. Tracking a parcel bought elsewhere is billed, which is worth knowing before asking Claude to follow a batch of outside shipments.
03Does Claude ask before it buys a label?
Yes. According to Shippo, buying a label or any other write waits for your go-ahead, which matches Claude's default rule of asking before any action it takes on an account for someone. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions run without a prompt each time. They can also restrict the connector to reads for the whole organization, which in practice keeps rate checks open while stopping every purchase.
04Which plans is it available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise workspaces. The Shippo sheet in the official directory is the only place that displays the current state for your account, so check it there before you plan around the connector.
05Does Claude see my whole Shippo account?
Claude works with the rights of the person who connected and nothing beyond them. If a Shippo user cannot see or do something in Shippo, Claude cannot either while working for that user. The connection itself is personal. A workspace owner can make the connector visible to everyone, yet each member still signs in with their own account. To cut access, you remove the connector in Claude and can also revoke it from your Shippo account.
06Why does Claude keep asking me to sign in to Shippo again?
Because the authorization session has expired. Shippo's documentation names this case directly and says the fix is to re-authorize from the connector settings in Claude. If the connector does not appear at all, your organization may limit directory connectors; Shippo then documents adding it as a custom connector pointing at its hosted server, with the same sign-in afterwards. To cut the link for good, remove the connector in Claude and, if you want, revoke access from your Shippo account.
07Claude or an automation tool for Shippo?
They do different jobs, so the choice depends on the use. Claude answers when you ask: compare rates for one parcel, buy a label after checking, look up a tracking status for a customer on the phone. It never starts on its own when an order arrives. If you want labels created every time a sale comes in without anyone typing a request, that is a scheduled flow, which an automation platform handles and a conversation does not.
