Overview

What changes once TaxAct is connected

US tax rules shift every year, and an assistant answering from memory can mix up the years. With this connector, Claude pulls the answer from TaxAct's data for the 2025 tax year instead, a knowledge base the publisher says is grounded in verified IRS references rather than model training data. That matters if you have a US return to file.

Get a ballpark before you start. Share a few basic figures, and estimate_taxes returns a rough federal refund or amount owed, with an optional state figure alongside.

Line up the paperwork. tax_document_checklist builds a list of what to gather based on your income, deductions and life events; explain_tax_document then walks through each box of a tax form.

Compare before paying anyone. compare_filing_costs lays out an itemized price for filing with TaxAct on your own, with expert help or as a full-service return.

What Claude does not do here: it files nothing, reads none of the documents you upload and gives no personalized tax advice. TaxAct describes its tools as general tax information and educational explanations, and says its server keeps neither your questions nor your inputs. There is no n8n, Make or Zapier page for TaxAct on our site; the Integrations hub lists the platforms we cover.

Adding the Claude TaxAct connector

  1. 01

    Open the connector list

In Claude's settings, go through Customize and then Connectors, and search for TaxAct. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it for the organization before members can add it.

  2. 02

    Click Connect

Start the connection with Connect on its row. TaxAct states that no sign-in or credentials are needed, so there is no TaxAct account to link and nothing to authorize.

  3. 03

    Ask in your own words

Ask your tax question in your own words, for instance about this year's deadlines or what a box on a form means: Claude calls the tools while it answers. TaxAct states that all of them work anonymously, with no account.

Tools

The 8 tools behind the Claude TaxAct connector

TaxAct gives Claude 8 tools: 8 that read your account, 0 that change something in it.

Eight tools, each described by TaxAct in the tool list its server publishes and in its documentation, and all flagged as lookup only. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on a service on your behalf. With TaxAct, the sheet only exposes lookups, and the publisher states that every tool is read-only and anonymous.

No source describes a confirmation specific to any of the eight tools, so Claude's general rule applies. On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners can limit what a connector may do for the whole organization, or switch it off, and nobody can override that setting from their own account. On data, TaxAct says its server is stateless and does not store your inputs or any of the conversation, which is worth knowing before you type income figures.

Plans

Which plans the connector is available on

No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector. Of the 819 sheets in the directory, none shows it.

Only the general rule is published: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables them for the organization, then each member connects. For TaxAct's current status, check its sheet in the official directory, the only place that displays it.

Limits

Where the TaxAct connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it is answering you, and nothing reminds you on its own as a deadline approaches.

By default the sheet only exposes reads; that is an observed floor, not a promise. The directory's verification badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic notes that it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes. Only TaxAct documents this connector; no Claude help article covers it. Its documentation draws clear lines around what the eight tools cover, and those lines are listed below so you can judge an answer before relying on it.

FAQ

Claude TaxAct connector: common questions

01What can Claude do with the TaxAct connector?
Claude can answer US federal tax questions for the 2025 tax year using TaxAct's data. It estimates a refund or amount owed, lists federal and state deadlines, explains the boxes on a tax form, builds a checklist of documents to gather, shows where to enter an item in the TaxAct interview, compares the price of TaxAct's filing options and presents expert help through Xpert Assist. All eight tools are read tools.
02Can Claude file my return or change anything in TaxAct?
No, by default the connector's sheet only exposes lookups. TaxAct states that all its tools are read-only and work anonymously, without an account. They provide general information and educational explanations, and the form explainer does not read uploaded files. The stateless server does not keep your inputs either. The tool list described here matches the public sheet as it stands today; any later change is something to confirm on the directory sheet.
03Does Claude ask before it uses TaxAct?
Claude's general rule is to ask for confirmation before any action it takes on your behalf. No source describes a confirmation specific to any of TaxAct's eight tools, which only calculate and explain, so that general rule is what applies. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, owners can also decide whether members may let certain actions through without being asked again, and can restrict what the connector is allowed to do for the whole organization.
04Which plans is the Claude TaxAct connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 sheets in the directory shows it. Anthropic's general rule is that remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables them for the organization first, then each member connects. For TaxAct, only its sheet in the official directory gives the current status.
05Does TaxAct keep my tax information?
According to TaxAct, no: its server is stateless and stores neither your inputs nor the conversation, and no account is needed to use the tools. The figures you share feed the calculation of the moment and are not kept on the publisher's side. Claude, for its part, never holds more rights than the person who connected it, and a workspace owner can switch the connector off for the whole organization.
06Is the TaxAct estimate reliable if I am self-employed?
Not for that case. TaxAct says its estimates are approximate and only cover wage income with the standard deduction. They leave out itemized deductions, self-employment tax, capital gains and some credits. The information reflects the 2025 tax year and prices are subject to change. A self-employed filer can still get real value from the document checklist, the deadline list or the form explanations, which do not depend on that estimate in any way.
07Claude or an automation tool for TaxAct?
They do different jobs, so the choice depends on the use. The Claude connector fits a tax question you have right now: a deadline, a box on a form, a quick estimate. It only acts while answering and watches nothing in the background, not even a filing date. An automation tool is meant to run a repeated task without you. For TaxAct, we do not document any n8n, Make or Zapier scenario at this stage.
