ClearBounce Make integrationAutomate ClearBounce with Make.

Tired of checking email addresses by hand before they reach your lists? The ClearBounce Make integration gives you 2 action modules: one checks an address whenever another tool hands it over, the other opens the rest of the ClearBounce API. This guide is for marketers and ops people who want that check to happen on its own, and walks you from the API key to a working scenario.

What you can automate

What can the ClearBounce Make integration do for you?

The ClearBounce Make integration links your ClearBounce account to Make, a no-code tool where you build a scenario (the automation itself, a chain of steps) out of modules (one brick per step). ClearBounce brings two action modules: one checks an email address, the other lets you call any part of the ClearBounce API with the same account.

Clean leads before they land in your CRM. A signup form collects an address, the Verify email module asks ClearBounce about it, and the following steps work with its answer in hand. You decide what happens next with the tools you already use in Make.

Keep newsletter imports honest. When a list arrives from an event or a partner, each row becomes a bundle (one item passing from module to module), and each bundle goes through the same check. Every module run on a bundle counts as one operation, the unit Make tracks on your plan, so a long list uses more of it.

Reach features the listed modules skip. Make an API call sends a request to any ClearBounce endpoint with the connection you already set up. It asks for a bit more reading of the ClearBounce API docs, and it covers whatever the dedicated module does not.

What the integration does not do: it has no trigger, so ClearBounce never starts a scenario on its own. Something else starts it, a form, a spreadsheet or a schedule. The ClearBounce documentation on Make also warns that its content is AI-generated and may contain mistakes, so double-check important details with ClearBounce. The same app may also exist on n8n; the n8n vs Make page lays out both tools side by side. To get a feel for the platform first, read our Make review, or follow the Make training to build faster.

Connect

How do you connect ClearBounce to Make?

  1. 01

    Copy your API key

You need an active ClearBounce account and an API key. Log in to ClearBounce, open the dashboard, click the API section and copy the key shown on screen. Keep it at hand for the next step.

  2. 02

    Add a ClearBounce module

In Make, open your scenario, add a ClearBounce module such as Verify email and click Create a connection. A connection is your ClearBounce account linked to Make once, then reused by both modules.

  3. 03

    Paste the key and save

Give the connection a clear name in the Connection name field if you like; it is optional. Paste the API key you copied, then follow the on-screen instructions to finish. The module is ready as soon as the connection appears.

First scenario

Build your first scenario with ClearBounce

GoalWhen a new email address comes in from another app, Make asks ClearBounce to verify it and passes the answer to the next step.

  1. 01

    Create the scenario

From the Scenarios page, create a new scenario and click the + to add the first module. Pick the app that receives your addresses, a form tool or a spreadsheet for example.

  2. 02

    Set up the starting app

Connect that first app and fill its fields. Once the connection exists, Make lists what it can read there, so you pick the form or the sheet from a menu instead of typing it.

  3. 03

    Add Verify email

Click the + on the right of the first module, search for ClearBounce and choose Verify email. Map the email address from the previous module into it, using the connection you created.

  4. 04

    Test with Run once

Click Run once to execute the scenario a single time. Open the bundles each module received to see the address that went in and what ClearBounce sent back.

  5. 05

    Schedule and switch on

Set the schedule on the first module; a new scenario runs every 15 minutes by default, and 15 minutes is also the shortest gap on the Free plan. Then switch the scenario on.

Modules

What each ClearBounce module does

ClearBounce gives you 2 modules. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

ClearBounce1

Make an API call

ActionIn the docs only

This module gives you a direct line to the ClearBounce API, so any endpoint the listed modules leave out becomes reachable from your scenario, with the connection you already set up.

When to use it
ClearBounce offers something in its API that Verify email does not cover and you want it inside the same flow.
Watch out
you write the request yourself, so keep the ClearBounce API documentation open and test with Run once before switching anything on.
ClearBounce2

Verify email

ActionIn the docs only

Hand this module an email address and you get back ClearBounce's answer about it, ready to feed the next step of your scenario. It is the everyday module of the integration.

When to use it
a new contact arrives from a form, a spreadsheet or your CRM and you want the address checked before anyone emails it.
Watch out
each address checked is one operation on your Make plan, so filter out empty or duplicate rows before this module.

FAQ

ClearBounce and Make: common questions

01Is the ClearBounce Make integration free?
Yes, on the Make side. ClearBounce is a standard app, available from the Free plan. That plan lets you keep 2 active scenarios, runs scheduled scenarios at most every 15 minutes, stops a run after 5 minutes, and caps files at 5 MB with 512 MB of data transfer. Paid plans lower the interval to 1 minute and allow 40 minutes per run. You still need an active ClearBounce account with its own subscription; check the ClearBounce pricing page for that part.
02What do you need to connect ClearBounce to Make?
Two things: an active ClearBounce account and its API key. You find the key in the ClearBounce dashboard, under the API section, and copy it as displayed. In Make, add a ClearBounce module, click Create a connection, optionally name it, and paste the key. That single connection then serves both modules, Verify email and Make an API call, in every scenario you build, so you only do this once per account.
03Can a ClearBounce scenario start in real time?
Not from ClearBounce itself. The app has no trigger module, so it never tells Make that something happened. You start the scenario another way: with a trigger from the app that collects your addresses, such as a form or a spreadsheet, or with the schedule on the first module, which runs every 15 minutes by default. Whether that first app reacts instantly or on a schedule depends on its own trigger, not on ClearBounce.
04What if the ClearBounce module you need is missing in Make?
Use Make an API call. It reaches any endpoint of the ClearBounce API with the connection you already have, so you are not limited to Verify email. Plan to read the ClearBounce API documentation to build the request, then test it with Run once. Keep in mind that the ClearBounce documentation on Make is AI-generated and may contain mistakes; for anything important, confirm the detail directly with ClearBounce before relying on it.
05Should you use Make or n8n for ClearBounce?
It depends on the tool your team already works in. On Make, ClearBounce comes as a native app with 2 modules, Verify email and Make an API call, available from the Free plan and connected with a single API key. ClearBounce may also exist as a node on n8n; check its node list before you choose. Pick the platform where the rest of your automations already live, so the address check sits next to the tools that feed it.
