44API Zapier integrationAutomate 44API with Zapier.
44API on Zapier: 0 triggers, 5 actions, 1 search. This 44API Zapier integration checks VAT and tax numbers and manages an IP whitelist, but since it has no trigger, another app always has to start the Zap. Here is what it does, what it costs and what breaks.

What the 44API Zapier integration does for you
The 44API Zapier integration plugs a VAT and tax ID checker into the rest of your tools. When a new customer, order or supplier shows up in another app, Zapier hands the number to 44API and gets back a verdict, so nobody copies numbers into a registry form by hand anymore.
Three results come out of it. First, a checked VAT number on every new B2B customer: with Validate VAT Tax Number, 36 of the 53 supported countries go through an official registry (all 27 EU states included), and the other 17 only get a format and checksum check. Second, a batch verdict on up to 10 numbers in one step with Validate VAT Numbers Batch, handy when a supplier list lands all at once. Third, a whitelist that follows your team: Add IP to Whitelist, Remove IP From Whitelist and List All Whitelisted IPs keep the Cloudflare WAF list in step with who actually needs access.
What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. 44API has no trigger, so a validation result can never start a Zap on its own. The Zap starts in another app (a form, a CRM, a spreadsheet) and 44API always comes second. And for the 17 format-only countries, no company data comes back, only a yes or no on the structure of the number.

Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words cover everything on this page. Read them once and the rest flows.
- Zap
- The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts a Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. 44API has none, so another app fills this role.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or checks something for you. 44API offers five of them.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. The number on your plan is a count of those and nothing else.
- Polling vs instant
- Polling: Zapier asks an app for new items on a timer. Instant: the app calls Zapier itself the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it there otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something that already exists, so the next steps can use what it found. 44API has one: Find VAT Validation.
What the 44API Zapier integration really costs
Zapier bills tasks, and only actions count. The trigger never costs a thing, and neither does Zapier looking for new data, however often it checks.
- Free plan100 tasks a month
- Free plan Zap size2 steps
- Premium appNo
- Cost of the trigger0 tasks
Each 44API action that succeeds is one task, so a Zap that validates a number and then writes the verdict elsewhere uses two. A failed action is not counted. 44API is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, but Zaps of two steps only. Add a filter, a second action or the Find VAT Validation search and the Zap turns multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below applies to the trigger of the other app when that trigger polls.
Connect 44API to Zapier in 3 steps
- 01
Open Apps and add a connection
In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. You need an existing 44API account before you start, since Zapier links an account rather than creating one.
- 02
Find 44API and confirm
Type 44API in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the list, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the 44API side, where the rest happens.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to 44API in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. Back in Zapier, the connection shows up in your list, linked once and reused by every 44API step of every Zap.
Your first Zap: check the VAT number of each new customer
GoalEvery new row in a customer sheet gets its VAT number checked by 44API, and the verdict goes back into the row.
- 01
Pick what starts the Zap
Create a Zap and choose the app and event that start it: here, a new row in the sheet where customers land. 44API cannot start a Zap, so this step always belongs to another app.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent rows of the connected account, so you map the next steps against a real customer, not a blank.
- 03
Add the 44API action
Add an action, choose 44API, then Validate VAT Tax Number. Map the country column to Country and the number column, stripped of its prefix, to VAT/Tax Number.
- 04
Write the verdict back
Add a second action that writes the result back into the row. Two actions make the Zap multi-step, so this needs a paid plan; on the free plan, stop after the 44API step.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what 44API returned before going further. When the answer looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
The 5 actions of 44API on Zapier
44API gives you 5 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Add IP to Whitelist
ActionIn Zapier“Adds an IP address to the CloudFlare WAF whitelist.”
Puts an IPv4 or IPv6 address on the Cloudflare WAF whitelist from inside a Zap, instead of someone doing it by hand in a dashboard.
List All Whitelisted IPs
ActionIn Zapier“Returns all IP addresses in your whitelist with summary counts.”
Returns every address currently on your whitelist, along with summary counts, as data the next steps can reuse.
Remove IP From Whitelist
ActionIn Zapier“Removes an IP address from the CloudFlare WAF whitelist.”
Takes an address off that same Cloudflare WAF whitelist, the mirror image of the previous action.
Validate VAT Tax Number
ActionIn Zapier“Validates a VAT, GST, or tax ID number. 53 countries: 36 with an official registry lookup (all 27 EU states plus GB, NO, CH, RS, IS, IL, CA, AU, NZ) and 17 with format and checksum validation only.”
Checks one VAT, GST or tax ID number and tells you whether it holds up. In 36 countries, including all 27 EU states, the check goes through an official registry; in 17 others it stops at format and checksum.
Validate VAT Numbers Batch
ActionIn Zapier“Validates multiple VAT numbers at once (max 10).”
Sends up to 10 VAT numbers to 44API in a single step and returns a verdict for each of them.
The 44API search step
1 search step looks for data that already exists in 44API, so a later step can use it.
44API has one search step. It sits at the bottom of the action-event list, under the SEARCH heading. Adding it makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.
Find VAT Validation
SearchIn Zapier“Looks up a VAT number and returns validation result.”
Asks 44API about a VAT number and hands the validation result to the following steps, without writing anything anywhere.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap right there. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet? This box turns a search into a find-or-create. Find VAT Validation has no such variant, so this search only ever looks.
- If multiple search results are found?Three ways out: keep the first match (the default), stop the Zap, or hand every match on at once.
When the 44API Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to 44API, so the cases below are the general Zapier limits that hit a validation Zap.
If a Zap stops for a reason not listed here, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the checks to run.
Existing records are never checked
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Customers already in your sheet stay unchecked, and moving that backlog is a separate job.The Zap keeps setting itself off
If the Zap writes the 44API verdict into the very sheet its trigger watches, it can restart itself again and again and burn through the task count fast.A bulk import gets held back
When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running it all.The same item never runs twice
On a polling trigger, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so one customer does not start the Zap twice and one check is not billed twice.
