AB.GL Zapier integrationAutomate AB.GL with Zapier.

The AB.GL Zapier integration gives you 1 trigger, 1 action and 0 searches. It works both ways: a Zap can shorten a long URL for you in AB.GL, or react each time a new short link appears in your account, so the link reaches the right tool.

Overview

What the AB.GL Zapier integration is for

AB.GL is a link shortener that lets you put your own domain and an overlay on the short links it creates. Connected to Zapier, it does two things: it turns a long address into a short AB.GL link from inside a Zap, and it tells other tools whenever a new short link shows up in your account.

Three outcomes cover most uses. A shared link log: every link created in AB.GL, by anyone on the account, lands in one place your team checks, thanks to New Link Created. Ready-to-post links: a newsletter editor drops a long article address into a sheet, and Shorten URL returns the short version before anything goes out. Cleaner sales follow-ups: a rep adds a long proposal address to a deal, and the Zap shortens it before the follow-up email is drafted.

What Zapier does not do for AB.GL: there is no search, so a Zap cannot look up an existing short link, and there is no action to edit or delete one. Click figures are not offered as a trigger or an action either. The integration creates links and announces new ones; the rest stays in AB.GL.

Choosing between platforms? The n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier comparisons set the criteria side by side, and Zapier training covers the editor step by step.

Vocabulary

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one starting event, then one or more steps that run each time that event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts a Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it, for instance a new link in your AB.GL account.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or creates something for you, like a fresh short link.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One action completed successfully counts as one task, and your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer for anything new. An instant one is reported by the app the moment it happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it everywhere else.
Connection
Your AB.GL account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap and every step that works with AB.GL.
Cost

What an AB.GL Zap really costs

Watching AB.GL for new links is free. The trigger never costs a task, however often Zapier checks.

  • Trigger0 tasks
  • Shorten URL that succeeds1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month
  • Premium appNo

Each action that succeeds counts once. A Zap that only shortens a URL uses one task per run; one that shortens, posts and logs uses three. A failed action is not counted. AB.GL is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, a check every 15 minutes. The real ceiling is the two-step limit. On the free plan a Zap is one trigger plus one action; a filter or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap that needs a paid plan.

Connect

Connect AB.GL to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Find AB.GL in your apps

From your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. Search for AB.GL in the dialog and select it. You need an AB.GL account before this step.

  2. 02

    Sign in on AB.GL

Click Add connection. A tab opens on AB.GL: sign in with the account whose links you want to watch or create. Links that belong to someone else need their access first.

  3. 03

    Approve Zapier

Grant Zapier the access it asks for. The connection is saved, and every later Zap that uses AB.GL offers it in its list, so this is a one-time setup per account.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log every new short link and tell the team

GoalA marketing team with several people creating links wants each new AB.GL link written to a shared sheet, then announced in the team chat.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap, pick AB.GL as the app that starts it, then New Link Created as the event. Choose your AB.GL connection.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent links of the connected account, so create one test link first and map from a real one.

  3. 03

    Add the sheet row

Add the spreadsheet step and map the short link into its column. Test it and check that the row really appears in the shared sheet.

  4. 04

    Add the chat message

Add the chat step and place the short link in the message. With two actions, this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. Links created before that moment are not picked up, so the sheet starts from today only.

Triggers

The AB.GL trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in AB.GL. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

Actions

The AB.GL action

AB.GL gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

Shorten URL

Action

In Zapier“Creates Short Link”

Give it a long web address and it creates a short AB.GL link in your account, which the next steps can reuse in an email, a post or a sheet.

When to use it
a campaign sheet fills up with long tracking addresses that nobody wants to paste as they are.
Watch out
Long URL is required, so an earlier step must carry the full address.
When it breaks

When an AB.GL Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to AB.GL, so the known trouble spots are the general ones. They matter more than they look.

Four situations explain most surprises on an AB.GL Zap, and one of them is specific to an app that can both create and watch links.

  • The Zap triggers itself

Shorten URL in a Zap built on New Link Created creates a link, which is a new link, which starts the Zap again. That loop burns through your tasks fast.
  • Old links never show up

A Zap only reacts to links created after you switch it on. Everything already in AB.GL stays where it is; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A bulk import gets held back

If your account suddenly gains a huge batch of links, after an import for example, Zapier's flood protection can hold the Zap back.
  • Duplicates? Not from the trigger

On a polling trigger, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same link does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

AB.GL Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the AB.GL Zapier integration free?
Yes. AB.GL is not a premium app, so it works on the free Zapier plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, with one limit worth knowing: a Zap stops at two steps, one trigger and one action. Shortening a URL from another app's trigger fits within that. Adding a filter or a second action, such as posting the short link somewhere, turns it into a multi-step Zap that needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does an AB.GL Zap use?
One per successful action, nothing for the trigger. Zapier checking AB.GL for new links is free, however often it looks. Each Shorten URL that works is one task, and each other action in the same Zap counts on its own, so shortening a link and then posting it costs two. An action that fails is not counted. Some apps and some actions take more than one task, so check the steps you add around AB.GL.
03Does AB.GL send new links to Zapier in real time?
No. New Link Created is a polling trigger: Zapier asks AB.GL for new links on a timer. The check runs every 15 minutes on the free plan, every 2 minutes on Professional, and every minute on Team and Enterprise. The app decides this type, and it cannot be changed from the editor. On paid plans you can adjust how often the check runs, or run one by hand while you build and test.
04What do you need to connect AB.GL to Zapier?
An AB.GL account, plus access to any links you do not own and want the Zap to touch. You connect from the Apps page in Zapier with + Add connection, sign in to AB.GL in the tab that opens, and grant access. That connection is then reused by every Zap and every step that uses AB.GL, so you only do it once per account. Once connected, the trigger test brings back the three most recent links of that account.
05Why does Shorten URL fail or return nothing useful?
Usually because the Long URL field was empty or mapped to the wrong value. Long URL is a required field of Shorten URL, and it has to come from an earlier step of the Zap. Test the trigger first, check that its sample really holds a full web address, and map that value. Test the action afterwards and read the short link it returns before you publish. The trigger test brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so the mapping is done on a real one.
06What if the AB.GL operation you need is not there?
Then Zapier cannot do it for AB.GL today. The integration offers one trigger and one action, with no search: a Zap cannot find an existing short link, edit it, delete it, or read click figures. The workable path is to let Zapier create and announce links, and keep the rest in AB.GL. If that is not enough, compare what other automation platforms expose for AB.GL before building. What exists today fits in two lines: New Link Created and Shorten URL.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for AB.GL?
It depends on your criteria, not on a winner. If you just want long URLs shortened inside an existing workflow and a free plan matters, the Zapier action does that in two steps. If you need more steps per run, faster checks without paying, or operations the Zapier integration does not offer, compare what each platform exposes for AB.GL, how it bills each run, and whether you want to host the tool yourself.
