Overview

What the Acelle Mail Zapier integration does for your lists

Connecting Acelle Mail to Zapier fills your email lists without CSV imports: a contact shows up in another app and becomes a subscriber. Acelle Mail is an open source email marketing application you host yourself. On Zapier it offers a single action, Create Subscriber, and no trigger at all.

Webinar sign-ups on the right list. A SaaS company sends every Typeform registration to Create Subscriber, so each attendee lands on the list for that session, ready for the reminder email the team already writes in Acelle Mail.

New customers from the online store. A coffee roaster pushes each new Shopify customer into a buyers list in Acelle Mail, with no export from the store admin.

Leads from a landing page. A consultant collects ebook downloads through a Webflow form and lets Zapier subscribe each one to a nurture list, one task per download. Three businesses, three sources, the same single action.

What Zapier can't do with Acelle Mail: react to anything inside it. The app has no trigger on Zapier, so no Zap can start when a campaign goes out or someone unsubscribes. There is no search either, so a Zap can't check whether a subscriber already exists. The n8n vs Zapier comparison helps if you need those.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven Zapier words, each shown on a contact's journey into your Acelle Mail list.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier. Here: someone fills in a form in another app, and Acelle Mail gains a subscriber.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Acelle Mail offers none on Zapier, so it always comes from another app, a form for instance.
Action
What the Zap does once started. In Acelle Mail that is Create Subscriber: a new subscriber added to the list you chose.
Task
What Zapier bills: one successful action. Each subscriber Create Subscriber adds counts as one task.
Polling vs instant
The pace depends on the starting app. With polling, Zapier checks on a timer; with an instant trigger, the app reports by itself.
Filter
A step that only subscribes the contact if it meets your condition, a ticked consent box for example. It makes the Zap a paid one.
Connection
Your Acelle Mail account linked to Zapier once. It supplies the lists you can pick in Create Subscriber.
Cost

What Acelle Mail on Zapier really costs

The form that starts the Zap is free. Every subscriber you add is not.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month
  • Steps on free2: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo

Zapier bills in tasks, one per successful action. The other app's trigger uses none, and neither do Zapier's checks for new entries. Every successful Create Subscriber counts: 100 sign-ups, 100 tasks. A sign-up that fails, say because no list was picked, is not counted.

The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps and a check every 15 minutes on polling triggers. It only builds two-step Zaps: adding a consent filter makes the Zap multi-step, so paid. Acelle Mail is not a premium app.

Connect

Connect your Acelle Mail account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Add Acelle Mail in Zapier

On the Apps page of your Zapier account, click + Add connection, type Acelle Mail in the dialog and pick it. Since the app has a single action, this connection is only ever used to create subscribers.

  2. 02

Sign in to your Acelle Mail

Click Add connection and sign in in the tab that opens, with the account that holds the lists you want to fill. Another account would show other lists in Create Subscriber.

  3. 03

    Allow writing

Grant Zapier access. Create Subscriber writes into your lists, so you need write access on any you don't own. Check that before you build the Zap, not after a failed test.

First Zap

Build your first Zap with the Acelle Mail Zapier integration

GoalEvery webinar registration on Typeform becomes an Acelle Mail subscriber, and the event team gets a heads-up on Slack.

  1. 01

    Start from Typeform

Acelle Mail has no trigger, so the Zap starts elsewhere. Pick Typeform and the New Entry event, choose the form, then test it to pull in a real entry.

  2. 02

    Add Create Subscriber

Add Acelle Mail's Create Subscriber action, select the target list from your account, then map the subscriber fields from the Typeform answers.

  3. 03

    Test the step

Test it and open the list in Acelle Mail to see the new subscriber. A failed run doesn't cost a task, so fix the mapping and test again if needed.

  4. 04

    Add Slack, then publish

Add Slack's Send Channel Message, test it, then click Publish. Two actions make this a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.

Actions

The Acelle Mail action on Zapier

Acelle Mail gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Subscriber

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new subscriber.”

Adds a new subscriber to one of the lists in your Acelle Mail account, using whatever another app passed along. It is the app's only operation on Zapier.

When to use it
when a sign-up form should feed a list without anyone importing files.
Watch out
picking a list is required, so create it before you build the Zap.
When it breaks

When it breaks, and why

Here everything happens at the list's front door: the starting app and the list you pick.

Zapier links no help article to Acelle Mail and publishes no limit specific to it. Since the Zap always starts in another app, most failures come from that trigger first, then from Create Subscriber. The Zapier troubleshooting page walks through the usual suspects.

  • Earlier sign-ups stay out

Entries received before the Zap went live never become subscribers. Getting them onto the list takes a separate import.
  • No duplicate check

Acelle Mail has no search on Zapier, so the Zap can't look up whether an address is already on the list before Create Subscriber runs.
  • A big batch held back

If the starting app suddenly returns a huge batch after a bulk import of contacts, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back.
  • No list to pick

Create Subscriber needs an existing list in the connected account. With no list, or the wrong account, the step can't run.

FAQ

Acelle Mail and Zapier: common questions

01Is the Acelle Mail Zapier integration free?
Yes. Acelle Mail is not one of the apps Zapier keeps for paid plans, and Create Subscriber works on the free plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps and a check every 15 minutes on polling triggers. Since Acelle Mail has no trigger, the typical free Zap links a form in another app to Create Subscriber: two steps, nothing more. Keeping only contacts who ticked a consent box needs a filter, and so a paid plan.
02How many tasks does an Acelle Mail Zap use?
One task per subscriber created successfully, and nothing for the other app's trigger. A Zap that adds each Typeform entry to a list costs one task per entry. Add a Slack message behind it and each entry costs two. A failed creation isn't counted, and Zapier checking the source app for new items is free however often it runs. On the free plan's 100 tasks a month, a one-action Zap can add up to 100 subscribers a month.
03Is it real time?
That depends on the app that starts the Zap, not on Acelle Mail. The app has no trigger, so Create Subscriber runs as soon as the other app's trigger kicks things off. If that trigger is instant, the subscriber appears almost right away. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 minutes on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. A lightning bolt in the editor marks an instant trigger.
04What do you need to connect Acelle Mail to Zapier?
An Acelle Mail account with at least one list already created, and a Zapier account. On Zapier's Apps page, click + Add connection, search for Acelle Mail, click Add connection, then sign in in the new tab and allow access. Pick the account carefully: it supplies the lists offered in Create Subscriber. If the target list belongs to a teammate, you need write access to it before your first test, or the step fails.
05Why does Create Subscriber show no list to pick?
Because the list field on Create Subscriber is required and only shows lists that already exist in your Acelle Mail account. If none has been created, there is nothing to pick and the action can't run. Create the list in Acelle Mail, come back to the editor and test the step again. Also check that the Zap uses the connection for the account that actually holds the list, since a second account would show other lists.
06What if the operation you need isn't there?
On Zapier, Acelle Mail offers one operation, Create Subscriber: no trigger, no search, no action to update or unsubscribe someone. Starting a Zap from a campaign or looking up an existing subscriber isn't possible. What you can do is add subscribers from any app Zapier supports. For anything else, check what Acelle Mail can do on its own, or look at a different automation tool that reaches it and covers the gap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Acelle Mail?
For Acelle Mail, the first criterion is which way data flows. On Zapier, contacts only go in, through Create Subscriber, and nothing can start from the app. If filling lists is enough, Zapier is the quickest to pick up and bills per successful action, handy for a modest number of sign-ups. Make counts usage differently and handles branching well, say a different list per answer. n8n can run on your own server, a natural fit next to an email app you already host yourself. Compare each tool's Acelle Mail operations before you choose.
