Overview

What the AlphaInsider Zapier integration is for

The AlphaInsider Zapier integration lets another tool send position changes to a strategy you run on AlphaInsider, the marketplace of crypto and stock strategies. AlphaInsider exposes no trigger on Zapier. It always comes second: a signal appears somewhere else, and AlphaInsider updates the strategy accordingly.

Three outcomes it produces. A scheduled rebalance: your target weights live in a spreadsheet, and New Order Allocations applies the whole new mix to the strategy in one go. A signal relay: an alert from your charting or research tool turns into a long or short position on a given ticker. A full exit: an empty allocation list closes every position of the strategy at once, which is handy as an emergency stop.

For anything the ready-made action does not cover, Make an API Call reaches the rest of AlphaInsider's interface, provided someone on the team knows which address to call.

What Zapier does not do here. Nothing happening inside AlphaInsider can start a Zap, because the app has no trigger. No real money moves: the integration works in paper trading only, and no actual trade is ever executed. Zapier gives no investment advice either, and every decision stays yours.

Comparing platforms? The AlphaInsider Make integration covers the same app on Make, and n8n vs Zapier weighs the two platforms against each other.

Vocabulary

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. AlphaInsider has none, so the trigger always comes from another tool, like a sheet or an alert.
Action
What the Zap does once started. With AlphaInsider, it either rewrites a strategy's positions or calls the interface directly.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. Your plan's monthly allowance is counted in tasks.
Polling or instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself, as soon as the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and halts it otherwise.
Connection
Your AlphaInsider account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to AlphaInsider.
Cost

What an AlphaInsider Zap costs in tasks

The trigger never costs a task, and neither do Zapier's checks for new data, however often they run. Only an action that goes through is billed. A failed one is not counted.

  • Trigger0 tasks
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, 2-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

AlphaInsider is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, and two steps per Zap. That covers one trigger plus New Order Allocations. Add a filter, say to skip rows not yet approved, or a second action, and the Zap turns multi-step, which needs a paid plan. How quickly the other app's polling trigger notices a change depends on the plan, as the grid below shows.

Connect

Connect AlphaInsider to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

Open Apps and add a connection

From your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. In the dialog that appears, type AlphaInsider and select it in the list of results.

  2. 02

    Confirm and sign in

Click Add connection. A new tab opens on AlphaInsider: sign in with the account that owns the strategies the Zap will update, or that has write access to them.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Authorize Zapier on the account. The connection then appears in your Apps list, and every AlphaInsider step reuses it, so the sign-in is done once per account rather than once per Zap.

First Zap

Your first Zap: rebalance from a spreadsheet

GoalApply a new set of target weights to a strategy each time an approved row lands in your allocation sheet.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the starting app

Create a Zap and choose Google Sheets with New Spreadsheet Row as the trigger. Point it at the sheet where each row describes the full target mix of the strategy.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier pulls the three most recent rows of the connected sheet, so the mapping is done on a real allocation and not on guessed column names.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, and set the field (Status), the rule and the value. Draft rows stop here. This step makes the Zap multi-step, so a paid plan is required.

  4. 04

    Add New Order Allocations

Pick AlphaInsider, then New Order Allocations. Paste the Strategy ID and map the allocation column. List every position you want to keep: anything left out gets closed.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the step and check the strategy on AlphaInsider: positions should match the row, in paper trading. When they do, click Publish to switch the Zap on.

Actions

The 2 AlphaInsider actions

AlphaInsider gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Make an API Call

Action

In Zapier“Performs any authorized AlphaInsider API call.”

Opens a direct line to AlphaInsider's interface for anything the ready-made action leaves out. You choose the address, the method and whether the call is signed with your connection.

When to use it
reading or changing something on AlphaInsider that New Order Allocations does not handle, with someone technical on hand.
Watch out
the three settings are mandatory, and a wrong address simply fails, which costs no task but rebalances nothing.
2

New Order Allocations

Action

In Zapier“Send multiple position allocations to your AlphaInsider strategies in a single request. Perfect for portfolio rebalancing or executing multi-asset trading signals.”

Replaces the whole set of positions of one strategy in a single request: for each asset, a ticker, a direction (long, short, close) and a weight between 0 and 2.

When to use it
a portfolio rebalance or a signal covering several assets at once.
Watch out
the list describes the complete target, so any position missing from it is closed, an empty list closes them all, and pending open orders are cancelled first.
When it breaks

When an AlphaInsider Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to AlphaInsider. Most failures come from Zapier's general rules or from how New Order Allocations reads its list.

Four cases to rule out first. When the problem sits elsewhere in the Zap, Zapier troubleshooting covers the editor side.

  • Positions vanish after a rebalance

New Order Allocations treats its list as the complete target. A ticker left out by mistake is closed, and an empty list wipes every position of the strategy.
  • Pending orders disappear

Each request cancels the strategy's existing open orders before applying the new mix. Orders placed by hand just before the Zap runs are gone.
  • Older rows are never applied

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Rows already in the sheet are not picked up, and replaying them is a separate job.
  • A bulk paste gets held back

Paste a large batch of rows at once and the trigger returns a huge set. Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of firing a burst of rebalances.

FAQ

AlphaInsider and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the AlphaInsider Zapier integration free?
Yes on the Zapier side, within limits. AlphaInsider is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan, which includes 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The constraint is the shape of the Zap: the free plan only builds two steps, one trigger and one action. A filter, a second action or a search makes it a multi-step Zap, and that requires a paid plan. A sheet trigger followed by New Order Allocations fits the free plan as it is.
02How many tasks does a rebalance use?
One successful New Order Allocations step counts as one task, whatever the number of positions in the list, since the whole mix goes in a single request. The trigger from the other app costs nothing, and Zapier's checks for new data are free too. A step that fails is not counted. If you chain a Make an API Call step after the rebalance, each successful action is billed on its own, so that Zap uses two tasks per run out of the 100 monthly ones on the free plan.
03Does AlphaInsider react in real time?
It depends on the app that starts the Zap, because AlphaInsider has no trigger of its own. With an instant trigger, that app calls Zapier the moment the event happens and the allocation goes out right after, on any plan. With a polling trigger, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 minutes on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. For a rebalance on a schedule that delay rarely matters; for a market signal, check the trigger type first.
04What does it take to connect AlphaInsider to Zapier?
An AlphaInsider account and a Zapier account. On the Apps page of Zapier, click + Add connection, search for AlphaInsider, click Add connection, sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. The connection is reused by every AlphaInsider step afterwards. Before building, keep the Strategy ID of the target strategy at hand, and check that the connected account owns that strategy or can edit it, otherwise New Order Allocations has nothing to update.
05Does New Order Allocations close positions missing from the list?
Yes. The action expects the complete set of positions the strategy should hold, not a change to add on top. Any position missing from the list is closed, and an empty list closes every position at once. It also cancels the strategy's existing open orders before applying the new mix. In practice, the sheet or tool feeding the Zap must always describe the full portfolio. Sending a single ticker by itself would close everything else in the strategy.
06What if AlphaInsider lacks the action a workflow requires?
On Zapier, AlphaInsider offers two actions: New Order Allocations and Make an API Call. There is no trigger and no search, so nothing inside AlphaInsider can start a Zap or look up a strategy. When a step is missing, Make an API Call is the usual way out, as it reaches any authorized part of AlphaInsider's interface, at the cost of some technical setup. Otherwise, check how Make or n8n expose AlphaInsider, since the coverage can differ.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for AlphaInsider?
No platform wins outright, it comes down to criteria. Coverage first: on Zapier, AlphaInsider brings two actions and no trigger, so compare what each platform offers for the same app. Billing next: Zapier counts one task per successful action, and its free plan stops at two-step Zaps, which a filtered rebalance already exceeds. Upkeep last: a strategy that rebalances unattended needs someone who can read the run history and fix a failed step quickly, in whichever editor that person knows best.
