Bitskout Zapier integrationAutomate Bitskout with Zapier.

The Bitskout Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers and 11 actions, with no search step. Bitskout never starts a Zap on its own: another app brings the file or the text, and Bitskout reads, sorts or compares it for you.

Overview

What the Bitskout Zapier integration actually does

Bitskout adds AI document reading to your tools without code or model training: you hand it a file or a piece of text, and it returns the data inside, so nobody types it in again. On Zapier, Bitskout is a pure action app: another app supplies the document, and Bitskout does the reading.

Three results you can build. An invoice inbox that fills your books: a new file arrives in your storage, Extract Data From Invoice reads it, and the next step writes what it found into your accounting tool. A hiring pipeline without retyping: Extract Data From CV (Resume) turns each application into data your recruiting tool can take. A check before you sign: Run Comparison sets a source file against a target file, for instance a purchase order against the delivery paperwork.

When files of several kinds arrive in the same place, Detect Document Type checks whether a file is the type you selected, so a filter lets only that type go on to the matching extraction. And when the built-in readers do not fit, Run Plugin for Files and Run Plugin for Text run a Bitskout plugin of your choice.

What Zapier does not do here. Bitskout has no trigger, so it can never be the first step of a Zap: something else has to start it. There is no search step either. And every file action needs a direct download link, not just any sharing link. If you are still choosing a platform, there is a Bitskout Make integration page, and a Make vs Zapier comparison.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven terms carry this page. Here is each one in a plain line; after this, they are used without explanation.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Bitskout has none, so the trigger always comes from another app.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or, here, reads a document on your behalf.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Instant vs polling
An instant trigger is pushed by its app at once. A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer that depends on your plan.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes it one, and it needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Bitskout Zap really costs

Bitskout is not a premium app on Zapier, so the free plan can run it. The bill is in tasks, one per action that goes through.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Bitskout actions11, each one a task when it succeeds
  • Bitskout triggersNone, the Zap starts in another app

The trigger from your other app costs nothing. Each Bitskout action that succeeds counts one task, and so does the step that writes the result somewhere. That is the catch: as soon as the Zap also stores what Bitskout read, it has two actions and needs a paid plan. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps. A failed action is not counted. How fast the Zap starts depends on the other app's trigger: instant, or polled on the grid below.

Connect

Connect your Bitskout account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Go to the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Bitskout account linked once, then reused by every Bitskout step you add.

  2. 02

    Select Bitskout

Search for Bitskout in the dialog, pick it, then click Add connection. Zapier opens a new tab where you sign in to Bitskout, so have your login details ready.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to your Bitskout account and allow Zapier to use it. You need an account on Bitskout, plus access to any file you do not own yourself and want a Zap to send it.

First Zap

Your first Zap: from a supplier invoice to your accounting tool

GoalA small wholesaler receives supplier invoices as files. Each new invoice is read by Bitskout, and the extracted data goes into the accounting tool.

  1. 01

Pick the trigger in your storage app

In the editor, choose the app where invoices land and its new-file event. Bitskout has no trigger, so the Zap always starts here, in another app.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent files of the connected account. Pick a real invoice, so the next steps are mapped on an actual document.

  3. 03

    Add the Bitskout action

Add Bitskout with Extract Data From Invoice. In File URL, map the direct download link of the file from the trigger, not a preview or sharing link.

  4. 04

    Send the data on

Add your accounting app as a second action and map the values Bitskout returned into its fields. Two actions make this a multi-step Zap, so it runs on a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each action once and read what came back. When the record looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Invoices that were already in the folder stay out.

Actions

Bitskout actions in Zapier

Bitskout gives you 11 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Detect Document Type

Action

In Zapier“Detects the type of provided documents”

Looks at a file and tells you whether it is the type of document you selected. It is the sorting step that comes before a reading step.

When to use it
a shared inbox gets invoices, receipts and orders mixed, and a filter after this step lets only invoices go on to the invoice reader.
Watch out
both the File URL and the document type to detect are required.
2

Extract Data From Bill of Lading

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from provided Bill of Lading using predefined Bitskout plugin”

Extracts the data from a bill of lading, the transport document of a shipment, with Bitskout's predefined plugin.

When to use it
a freight forwarder who logs every incoming shipment document without retyping it.
Watch out
a File URL that does not download the file itself will not work.
3

Extract Data From Business Card

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from provided Business card using Bitskout predefined plugin”

Turns a photo or scan of a business card into contact data, using Bitskout's predefined plugin.

When to use it
a sales rep back from a trade show who uploads the cards collected and wants them in the CRM.
Watch out
the image has to be reachable through a direct download link.
4

Extract Data From CV (Resume)

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from provided CV (Resume) using Bitskout predefined plugin”

Reads a CV and returns its content as data, ready to drop into a recruiting tool or a spreadsheet.

When to use it
an HR team that receives applications by email and wants each candidate filed automatically.
Watch out
applicant files stored behind a sharing page need a direct download link instead.
5

Extract Data From HARO Query

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from provided HARO Query using Bitskout predefined Bitskout plugin”

Takes the text of a HARO query, a journalist's request for sources, and extracts its data. Unlike the other readers, it works on pasted text, not on a file.

When to use it
a PR team that sorts incoming journalist requests by topic.
Watch out
Bitskout only extracts from HARO queries here, not from other emails.
6

Extract Data From Invoice

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from provided Invoice using the predefined Bitskout plugin”

Reads a supplier or customer invoice with Bitskout's ready-made plugin and hands its data to the next step, so nobody keys it in.

When to use it
filling your bookkeeping from invoices dropped in a storage folder.
Watch out
the File URL must be a direct download link; a sharing link does not always qualify.
7

Extract Data From Purchase Order

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from Purchase Order using predefined Bitskout plugin”

Reads a purchase order with the ready-made Bitskout plugin, so the order lands in your systems as data rather than as a file someone has to open.

When to use it
a supplier who receives orders as attachments and wants them in the order book at once.
Watch out
the file link must download directly.
8

Extract Data From Receipt

Action

In Zapier“Extracts data from provided Receipt using predefined Bitskout plugin”

Pulls the data out of a receipt using the predefined plugin, for expense flows where staff send photos or scans of what they paid.

When to use it
turning each receipt a field team uploads into an expense line.
Watch out
like every file action, it needs a direct download link in File URL.
9

Run Comparison

Action

In Zapier“Compares one file (Source) with other file (Target) using predefined Bitskout plugin”

Compares a source file with a target file using a predefined plugin. Each file can be a direct link or its contents in Base64, with its name and extension.

When to use it
checking a delivery note against the order it should match.
Watch out
four fields are required; if your tool gives a name without extension, pass the file path.
10

Run Plugin for Files

Action

In Zapier“This action is used to run selected Bitskout workflow (plugin) for specified file”

Runs the Bitskout plugin you select on a file. This is the open door when none of the ready-made readers fits your document.

When to use it
a document specific to your trade, read by a plugin you set up in Bitskout.
Watch out
the plugin has to exist in your Bitskout account before you can pick it, and the File URL must download directly.
11

Run Plugin for Text

Action

In Zapier“This action is used to run selected Bitskout workflow (plugin) for specified text”

Runs a selected Bitskout plugin on a piece of text instead of a file, such as an email body or a form answer.

When to use it
pulling structured data out of free-text messages a form collects.
Watch out
the Text field is required, so map it from a step that always carries some text.
When it breaks

Where a Bitskout Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Bitskout, and no rate limit specific to the app is documented. The cases below come from the required fields of the actions and from how Zaps work.

Four cases to check before you publish. The link one causes the most trouble, because the Zap looks right in the editor and fails only on the real file. For anything else, the Zapier troubleshooting guide takes over.

  • The file link only shows a preview

Bitskout needs a direct download link in File URL. A sharing link is not always a direct download link, and with the wrong one the action has no file to read.
  • Files from before the Zap are ignored

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Documents already in the folder are not read; processing that backlog is a separate job.
  • The result lands where the trigger watches

If a later step saves a file into the very folder your trigger watches, the Zap starts again on its own output and burns tasks.
  • A bulk upload arrives at once

Dropping a huge batch of files into the watched folder can make Zapier's flood protection hold the trigger back instead of running each file.

FAQ

Bitskout and Zapier: common questions

01Is the Bitskout Zapier integration free?
Yes, on Zapier's side. Bitskout is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The limit is the two-step rule: one trigger, one action. Since Bitskout has no trigger, a free Zap is another app's trigger plus one Bitskout action. Sending the extracted data on to a third app adds a second action, which makes it a multi-step Zap that needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Bitskout Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, on every run. The trigger from your other app is free. A Zap that reads an invoice and then creates a bill in your accounting tool uses two tasks per file. Adding Detect Document Type in front makes it three. A failed action is not counted. Keep loops in mind: a Zap that saves its own output in the folder it watches will read it again and again.
03Does Bitskout work in real time with Zapier?
It depends on the app that starts the Zap, since Bitskout has no trigger of its own. If that app's trigger is instant, the app tells Zapier as soon as a file arrives and Bitskout runs right away, whatever your plan. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on the free plan, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. The Bitskout action itself runs as soon as its turn comes.
04What do you need to connect Bitskout to Zapier?
A Bitskout account, and access to any file you want a Zap to send it but do not own. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Bitskout, click Add connection, then sign in to Bitskout in the new tab and grant access. For Run Plugin for Files and Run Plugin for Text, set up the plugin in Bitskout first, since the action asks you to pick it from your account.
05Why does Bitskout fail to read a file that opens fine in the browser?
Usually because the File URL points to a sharing page rather than to the file itself. Bitskout's file actions need a direct download link, and a shared link is not always one: it can lead to a page about the file rather than to the file itself. Check which link your storage app exposes in the trigger data and map the download one. Run Comparison also accepts the file contents as encoded text when no direct link is available.
06What if the Bitskout operation you need is missing?
Zapier exposes 11 actions for Bitskout, no trigger and no search step. If none of the ready-made readers fits your document, Run Plugin for Files and Run Plugin for Text run a plugin you have set up in Bitskout. If what is missing is a way to start a Zap from Bitskout, it has to come from another app. Comparing other automation platforms for the same app is the last option.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Bitskout?
It comes down to criteria, not to a winner. On Zapier, Bitskout brings 11 actions, no trigger and no search, and each successful action is billed as a task, so a read-then-store flow costs two per file and needs a paid plan. Make has its own Bitskout page with its own operations, worth checking against your flow. Weigh first whether the operation you need exists on each platform, then how each one counts a multi-step run, and which tool your team already uses.
