Overview

What BookFunnel and Zapier actually do together

BookFunnel delivers ebooks and audiobooks to readers for authors and publishers. Zapier connects it to your other tools: when something happens in one app, Zapier does a job in BookFunnel, or the other way round. No code, and you only set it up once.

Three results show up again and again. First, a welcome shelf: a reader joins your list somewhere else, and Email Unique Download Link mails them a personal copy of your reader magnet. Second, store deliveries: a sale lands in your shop, and Sales Delivery Action hands the file to the buyer through BookFunnel. Third, a clean mailing list: New Subscriber pushes each reader who signs up on BookFunnel into your email tool or a spreadsheet.

There is a fourth, quieter use. Create Unique Download Link builds the link but sends nothing, so you can drop it into your own newsletter template instead of a BookFunnel email.

Now the part the app page skips. Zapier does not search BookFunnel: no lookup of a reader, a book or a past delivery. There is only one trigger, so a new subscriber is the only BookFunnel event that can start a Zap. And nothing here creates a book, a landing page or a delivery action for you; those stay in BookFunnel itself.

Comparing tools? The BookFunnel Make integration covers the same app on Make, and our Make vs Zapier breakdown lays out the criteria side by side.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words, and the rest of the page reads easily.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Once you switch the Zap on, Zapier sits and waits for it to happen.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that creates, sends or moves something on your behalf.
Task
The unit Zapier bills you for. One task is one action that finished successfully, nothing else.
Polling vs instant
Polling: Zapier checks the app on a timer for new items. Instant: the app calls Zapier the second the event happens.
Filter
A step that holds the Zap back unless what arrived passes your rule, so only the readers you pick go on to the next step.
Connection
Your BookFunnel account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to BookFunnel.
Cost

What a BookFunnel Zap really costs

BookFunnel is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Zap size on freeTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, BookFunnel runs on free

The trigger never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking for new subscribers, however often it looks. You pay per action that succeeds: a Zap that emails a link and then logs the reader somewhere uses two tasks per subscriber. A failed action is not counted. The catch on the free plan is size: one trigger, one action, full stop. Add a filter or a second action and you have a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.

Connect

Connect your BookFunnel account

  1. 01

    Open your Apps page

In Zapier, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a BookFunnel account, plus access to any books you want the Zap to touch that someone else owns.

  2. 02

    Pick BookFunnel

Type BookFunnel in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the BookFunnel side for the sign-in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to BookFunnel in that tab and grant Zapier access to your account. Back in Zapier, the connection now appears in your list, ready for every BookFunnel step you build.

First Zap

Your first Zap: welcome every new BookFunnel subscriber

GoalEach reader who signs up on BookFunnel lands in your email tool automatically.

  1. 01

    Build: choose the trigger

Create a Zap, pick BookFunnel as the app and New Subscriber as the event, then select the BookFunnel connection you made earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three latest subscribers on your account, so you map fields from a real reader, not a placeholder.

  3. 03

    Add the email tool

Add an action in your mailing tool and map the subscriber's email address into it. On the free plan, stop here: this is your one action.

  4. 04

    Log the reader (paid plan)

On a paid plan, add a second action that writes a spreadsheet row. That second action turns this into a true multi-step Zap.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each action once and read what came back. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on for every future BookFunnel subscriber.

Triggers

BookFunnel triggers

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in BookFunnel. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

New Subscriber

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a reader subscribes on BookFunnel.”

Starts your Zap each time a reader signs up through one of your BookFunnel pages, and passes their details to the next step. It is the only BookFunnel event Zapier can listen to, so every automation that begins inside BookFunnel begins here.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
you run a reader magnet on BookFunnel and want each new address copied into the email tool where you actually write your newsletter.
Watch out
readers who joined before you published the Zap are never picked up, so export your existing list separately.
Actions

BookFunnel actions

BookFunnel gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

2

Sales Delivery Action

Action

In Zapier“Deliver a digital ebook or audiobook with a BookFunnel Delivery Action”

Hands a purchased ebook or audiobook to the buyer through one of your BookFunnel delivery actions. You supply a transaction ID, the buyer's email, the item name and its SKU.

When to use it
a sale is recorded in another app and the buyer should get the book through BookFunnel.
Watch out
the SKU must match the one in your BookFunnel delivery action exactly, or BookFunnel cannot find what to send.
When it breaks

When a BookFunnel Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to BookFunnel, so the known failures are the general ones.

None of these are rare, and all four come from how Zapier works rather than from BookFunnel. If one keeps coming back, our Zapier troubleshooting page walks through the fixes.

  • Old subscribers never arrive

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Readers who joined before that stay where they are; moving them is a separate export.
  • The Zap keeps restarting itself

If an action writes back into the very place the trigger watches, the Zap sets itself off again and again and eats your 100 monthly tasks fast.
  • A big import gets held back

After a bulk import, the trigger can suddenly return a huge batch. Zapier's flood protection may pause it rather than fire hundreds of actions.
  • No duplicate runs, by design

Zapier remembers which subscribers it has already seen, so the same reader does not start the Zap twice, even if the trigger sees them again.

FAQ

BookFunnel Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the BookFunnel Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as your Zap stays at two steps. BookFunnel is not a premium app, so it runs on the Zapier free plan, which gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The limit is shape, not price: one trigger and one action. A filter, a second action or a search makes it a multi-step Zap, and that requires a paid plan. A New Subscriber trigger followed by Email Unique Download Link fits that limit.
02How many tasks does a BookFunnel Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. If New Subscriber fires and the Zap emails a download link, that run costs one task. Add a spreadsheet row and the same subscriber costs two. Zapier checking BookFunnel for new readers is free however often it looks, and an action that fails is not counted. So the bill grows with subscribers and with the number of actions in your Zap, not with time.
03Does BookFunnel trigger Zapier in real time?
No. New Subscriber is a polling trigger: Zapier asks BookFunnel for new readers on a timer instead of BookFunnel reporting them instantly. On the free plan that check happens every 15 minutes, on Professional every 2, on Team and Enterprise every minute. For a welcome email sent to a new reader, that delay rarely matters. On paid plans you can also run a check by hand from the editor when you are testing.
04What does it take to connect BookFunnel to Zapier?
A BookFunnel account and a Zapier account, nothing more, and no developer involved. You open the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, pick BookFunnel, sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. If the Zap will touch books that a co-author or publisher owns, you also need access to those. For the link actions, prepare an Email Signup page on BookFunnel beforehand, since its reader link is a required field.
05Why does Sales Delivery Action fail to find the book?
Almost always because the SKU does not match, even by a single character. BookFunnel uses the Item SKU you send to look up the delivery action, and it must be identical to the SKU set in that delivery action on BookFunnel. Copy it from BookFunnel rather than retyping it, and check that your shop sends the same value. The action also requires a unique transaction ID, the buyer's email address and the item name.
06What if the BookFunnel operation you need is not available?
Then Zapier cannot do it through this BookFunnel integration today, whatever plan you are on. The app exposes one trigger, New Subscriber, and three actions around download links and sales delivery. There are no searches, so a Zap cannot look up an existing reader or delivery. New Subscriber is also the only event that can start a Zap. Those jobs stay inside BookFunnel itself, or you check whether another automation tool covers them for your setup.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for BookFunnel?
It depends on your criteria, not on a winner. On scope, Zapier offers one BookFunnel trigger and three actions, with no search, so check what Make and n8n expose for BookFunnel before choosing. On shape, the Zapier free plan stops at two steps, so a filter or a second action means a paid plan. On cost, every successful action on Zapier is a task, so compare how each tool counts its runs against the number of readers you expect.
