OrangeURL Zapier integrationAutomate OrangeURL with Zapier.
The OrangeURL Zapier integration gives you 2 triggers, 1 action and 1 search. A new short link or a click on one can start an automation right away, your other tools can create short links, and a Zap can pull the analytics of any link, from the free plan up.

What the OrangeURL Zapier integration actually does
The OrangeURL Zapier integration connects your OrangeURL link shortener to the rest of your tools through Zapier, a service that runs automations without code. OrangeURL tells Zapier when a short link is created or clicked, Zapier can create short links from what happens elsewhere, and it can fetch the analytics of a given link. The app is not reserved for paid accounts.
A link inventory that keeps itself. New Short URL Created feeding a spreadsheet gives your marketing team one list of every short link, whoever made it.
Click alerts where people work. URL Clicked can post into your team chat when someone opens a link from a proposal or a campaign email.
Short links without the copy and paste. Create Short URL shortens a long address coming from another app, a new blog post or a new product page for instance, and hands the short version to the next step.
Both triggers are instant: OrangeURL reports the event itself, so even on the free plan the Zap does not wait for a timer. On the free plan, that is the main gain over exporting your links by hand. What Zapier does not do here: there is no action to edit or delete a link, and the only search reads analytics; it cannot create anything. Before choosing a tool, two comparisons: Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier.
The Zapier words you will meet
Zapier has its own vocabulary. Eight words cover this page and the editor.
- Zap
- One automation you build on Zapier: a trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event, in OrangeURL or another app, that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for that event.
- Action
- The step that does the work once the Zap has started: writing a row, sending a message, or creating a short link.
- Task
- What Zapier bills: one action completed successfully. Your plan allowance is a count of those, nothing else.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself the moment the event happens. Both OrangeURL triggers work this way, so nothing waits.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items. It is how most apps work, but not OrangeURL.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something that already exists, here the analytics of one short link, so later steps can use it.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action, a filter or a search makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What an OrangeURL Zap really costs
The trigger never costs anything, not even on a link that gets clicked all day. You pay in tasks, one per action that completes.
- Tasks on the free plan100 a month
- Steps per Zap on the free plan2
- Cost of a trigger event0 tasks
- OrangeURL on the free planAvailable
An action that fails is not counted, and the trigger event itself is free. With URL Clicked, though, every click is an event, and every action that follows it and succeeds is a task: a popular link can empty a 100-task free allowance fast. The free plan builds Zaps of two steps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter, a second action or the Get URL Analytics search and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
Connect OrangeURL to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. A connection is your OrangeURL account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that touches OrangeURL.
- 02
Find OrangeURL
Type OrangeURL in the search box of the dialog, pick it, then click Add connection. You need an OrangeURL account first: nothing connects without one.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to OrangeURL in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access to the account. If the Zap will read links you do not own, make sure your account has access to them before testing.
Your first Zap: click report for every visit
GoalEach click on one of your short links adds a line with that link's analytics to a tracking sheet.
- 01
Pick the trigger
Build the Zap by choosing OrangeURL as the app that starts it and URL Clicked as the event, then select your OrangeURL connection.
- 02
Test the trigger
Click one of your short links yourself, then run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the account, so you map the next steps on a real click.
- 03
Add the analytics search
Add Get URL Analytics. It requires the Short ID, the part after the slash of the short link: map it from what the trigger returned, after checking the test result carries it.
- 04
Write the line
Add the spreadsheet step and map what the search found into its columns, so each row tells which link was opened and how it is doing overall.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test each step once and read what came back. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on. With a search in it, this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.
OrangeURL triggers on Zapier
2 events start a Zap when something happens in OrangeURL, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Short URL Created
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new short URL is created in your OrangeURL account.”
Starts your Zap each time a short link appears in your OrangeURL account, whoever on the team made it. It is the entry point for keeping a register of links, sharing new ones with a channel, or tagging them in a marketing tool.
URL Clicked
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when someone clicks on one of your short URLs.”
Reacts to a visitor opening one of your short links, so a click becomes something your other tools can act on. Sales teams use this kind of signal to follow up while interest is fresh, and marketers to watch a launch.
OrangeURL actions on Zapier
OrangeURL gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Short URL
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a new short URL with optional custom settings.”
Turns a long address sent by another app into an OrangeURL short link, ready for the next step to post, mail or store. The only required input is the Long URL.
OrangeURL search on Zapier
1 search step looks for data that already exists in OrangeURL, so a later step can use it.
A search step does not change anything in OrangeURL: it reads what exists and passes it on. You add it from the action-event list, where searches sit at the bottom under SEARCH, or from the + Add search step button some fields offer. Three settings decide what happens when the result is not the expected one.
Get URL Analytics
SearchIn Zapier“Retrieve detailed analytics for a specific short URL.”
Fetches the analytics of one short link so the following steps can write them somewhere or act on them. You point it at the link with its Short ID, the code after the slash, such as abc123.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there and the steps that depend on it are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet? This box turns a search into a find-or-create. OrangeURL offers no find-or-create variant, so Get URL Analytics only reads; creating a link stays the job of Create Short URL.
- If multiple search results are found?Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one, which is the default, stop the Zap, or hand all of them on at once.
When an OrangeURL Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to OrangeURL and lists no limit of its own for the app. What goes wrong comes from Zapier's general rules, and two of them bite harder on a link shortener.
Four cases to know before you publish. For anything else: Zapier troubleshooting.
Nothing from before the Zap
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Links created and clicks recorded earlier are never picked up; moving that history is a separate job.The Zap that feeds itself
New Short URL Created plus Create Short URL in the same account: each link the Zap creates is a new event. It starts again and again, and burns your task count fast.A sudden flood
A bulk import of links, or a burst of clicks after a big send, can return a huge batch at once, and Zapier's flood protection may hold it back.A long address without http
Create Short URL refuses a Long URL that does not start with http or https. When the source sends a bare domain, the action fails and nothing is shortened.
