Global Exchange Rates Zapier integrationAutomate Global Exchange Rates with Zapier.
The Global Exchange Rates Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 0 actions and 5 searches. It never starts a Zap on its own: another app does, then this one looks up a rate or converts an amount for the step that follows it.

What the Global Exchange Rates Zapier integration actually does
Global Exchange Rates is a rate service built for finance teams: accounting, ERP and reporting. Plugged into Zapier, it works as a lookup. Something happens in another app, and the Zap asks Global Exchange Rates for a rate, a list or a converted amount, then hands the answer to the steps that follow.
Three results you can get from it, each tied to a real operation. First, an invoice total in a foreign currency turned into your home currency: Convert Currency Amount takes the amount and returns the converted value, ready to drop into a sheet or your accounting tool. Second, a rate frozen at a given date for a closing or an audit trail: Find Historical Exchange Rates reads the rates of one day, as long as that day falls on or after 1 January 2024. Third, today's figures pushed into a report: Find Latest Exchange Rates returns the most recent rates of the provider you pick.
The two other searches are setup helpers. Find Currencies tells you which currencies are on offer, and Find Providers which rate sources you can choose from. Handy before you build anything serious.
Now the part the app page skips. Global Exchange Rates has no trigger and no action. It cannot start a Zap, and it never writes anything anywhere. Every Zap that uses it needs a trigger from another app, plus at least one search, which makes it a multi-step Zap (anything beyond one trigger and one action). That rules out the free plan in practice, even though the app itself is not premium.
If you are weighing tools, the same app has a Global Exchange Rates Make integration page, and our n8n vs Zapier comparison lays out the criteria side by side.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words you will meet in the editor. Each one is explained once here, then used as is.
- Zap
- The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more steps that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. Global Exchange Rates has none.
- Action
- The step that writes, sends or moves something for you once the Zap has started. This app offers none of its own.
- Task
- What Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan counts those, nothing else.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself, the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something that already exists, so later steps can use it. All five operations here are searches.
What it really costs
Zapier bills actions that succeed, not checks or triggers. The catch with this app sits elsewhere.
- Premium appNo
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
- BilledEach action that succeeds
- Not billedThe trigger and the checks for new data
The trigger never costs a task, and looking for new data is free however often Zapier checks. Each action that succeeds counts once; a failed one is not counted. On the free plan you get 100 tasks a month and polling every 15 minutes, but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. A filter or a search turns any Zap into a multi-step Zap. Since every operation of Global Exchange Rates is a search, a Zap that uses it needs a paid plan, even though the app is not premium.
Connect your Global Exchange Rates account
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your account linked once to Zapier, then reused by every step that calls this app.
- 02
Find the app and start the link
Type Global Exchange Rates in the dialog, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Global Exchange Rates side.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in with your Global Exchange Rates account in that tab and allow Zapier to use it. You need an existing account on the service: Zapier does not create one for you.
Your first Zap with Global Exchange Rates
GoalEach new sales row in a sheet gets its foreign-currency amount converted, then the row is updated with the result.
- 01
Pick the starting app
Create a Zap and choose the trigger in the app where your amounts land, here a spreadsheet. Global Exchange Rates cannot start a Zap, so the first step always belongs to another tool.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you pick a real row with a real amount to map in the next steps.
- 03
Add the conversion
Click the plus, choose Global Exchange Rates, then Convert Currency Amount from the searches listed at the bottom of the event menu. Map the amount column from the row into the Amount field.
- 04
Write the result back
Add the step that stores the converted value, for example an update of the same row. Map the output of the search into the target column, then test each step and read what came back.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From now on it handles new rows only: the rows already in the sheet stay as they are.
The 5 Global Exchange Rates searches
5 search steps look for data that already exists in Global Exchange Rates, so a later step can use it.
In the editor, these sit at the bottom of the action-event list, under the SEARCH heading. Three settings decide what happens when a search does not find exactly one result.
Convert Currency Amount
SearchIn Zapier“Converts one currency amount to another currency.”
Give it a sum in one currency and it hands back the same sum in another, as a value later steps can use directly. This is the operation most Zaps here are built around.
Find Currencies
SearchIn Zapier“Finds available currencies.”
Returns the list of currencies the service covers. Think of it as a reference check rather than something you run on every record.
Find Historical Exchange Rates
SearchIn Zapier“Finds the historical exchange rates for a selected date and provider.”
Pulls the rates of a chosen day from a chosen provider, which gives you a figure you can defend later. A Latest option, on by default, falls back to the most recent rates up to that day when the exact date has none.
Find Latest Exchange Rates
SearchIn Zapier“Finds the latest exchange rates for the selected provider.”
Fetches the freshest rates published by the provider you select. No date to supply: you get the current picture.
Find Providers
SearchIn Zapier“Finds available exchange rate providers.”
Lists the rate sources available on the service, so you know which provider to pick in the two rate searches.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a search that returns nothing halts the Zap, and the steps relying on it are skipped. Switch it on and the Zap goes on with empty values.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet? This box turns a search into a find-or-create. Global Exchange Rates exposes no such variant, so you will not have this choice here.
- If multiple search results are found?Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one (the default), stop the Zap, or pass every result on at once.
When it breaks
Zapier links no help article to Global Exchange Rates, so the failures below are the general ones, applied to a lookup app.
Most problems here come from the Zap around the searches, not from the searches themselves. Our Zapier troubleshooting page goes further when a Zap refuses to cooperate.
Past records are never converted
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Rows or invoices that already existed are not picked up, and converting that backlog is a separate job.The Zap feeds itself
If the converted amount is written back into the very place the trigger watches, the Zap can set itself off again and again and burn through your task count fast.A bulk import stalls
When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running every item.Empty search, skipped steps
With the default setting, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there. A missing date or amount upstream is the usual reason the conversion never reaches your sheet.
