What the LaunchNotes Zapier integration does
LaunchNotes helps a company share context about its work and keep the people who care about it in the loop, through announcements and project subscriptions. Connected to Zapier, it works both ways: its announcements and new subscribers can start work in other apps, and other apps can draft announcements or add subscribers in LaunchNotes.
Three results come back most often. First, an announcement that travels on its own: Announcement Published starts a Zap the moment an announcement goes live, so the news reaches a team chat or another channel without anyone pasting it. Second, subscribers gathered from everywhere: Create Subscription adds a person to a LaunchNotes project from just an email address, whatever app collected it. Third, drafts prepared from elsewhere: Create Announcement puts a draft, with its headline and content, in a project, ready for someone to review.
All three triggers are instant. LaunchNotes warns Zapier itself, so the plan interval never delays a Zap, and the free plan reacts as fast as the paid ones.
What Zapier does not do for LaunchNotes is just as useful to know. Create Announcement only writes drafts: it does not publish or schedule anything. There is no search step, no action to edit or remove a subscriber, and no trigger on a draft being created. To compare tools on this kind of limit, see our n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier pages.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words cover the page. Explained once here, they come back without a reminder.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or adds something on your behalf.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan allowance counts those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself as the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
- Connection
- Your LaunchNotes account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every LaunchNotes step of every Zap you build.
What a LaunchNotes Zap really costs
LaunchNotes is not a premium app: it works from the free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and only actions that succeed are counted.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Zap length on Free2 steps: one trigger, one action
- Trigger0 task
- LaunchNotes triggers3 instant, 0 polling
The trigger never costs a task, and an action that fails is not counted. Each successful action counts on its own: a Zap that adds a subscriber and then drafts an announcement uses two tasks per run. The free plan stops at two steps, one trigger and one action; a second action or a filter makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below applies only to polling triggers. The three LaunchNotes triggers are instant, so it never slows them down.
Connect your LaunchNotes account in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In Zapier, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a LaunchNotes account, plus access to any project you do not own but want the Zap to write into.
- 02
Pick LaunchNotes
Type LaunchNotes in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab then opens on the LaunchNotes side, where you sign in.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in to LaunchNotes in that tab and allow Zapier to use the account. The connection is stored once, and every LaunchNotes step of every Zap you build reuses it.
Your first LaunchNotes Zap
GoalWhen someone subscribes to a LaunchNotes project, send their details to another app, only when your condition is met.
- 01
Create the Zap
Start a new Zap, choose LaunchNotes as the app that starts it and Subscription Created as the event, then select your LaunchNotes connection.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent subscriptions so you map fields on a real one. No subscriber yet means nothing to map.
- 03
Add a filter
Add a Filter step from the plus icon and set the field, the rule and the value. Pick a text rule for text, or the filter never passes.
- 04
Add the action
Add the app that should receive the subscriber, pick its action and map the LaunchNotes fields. Never Create Subscription here: it would restart this Zap.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back, then click Publish. With a filter this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.
The 3 LaunchNotes triggers
3 events start a Zap when something happens in LaunchNotes, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Announcement Published
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when an announcement is published”
Starts the Zap the moment an announcement goes live in LaunchNotes. The announcement's details become available to the next steps, ready to be relayed wherever your audience or your team actually reads.
Announcement Scheduled
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when an announcement is scheduled.”
Reacts when someone schedules an announcement for later, well before it actually goes out. It gives you a head start on whatever has to be ready by the publication date.
Subscription Created
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new project subscription is created”
Fires when a new subscription to one of your LaunchNotes projects is created, whoever signed up. The subscriber's details travel to the following steps.
The 2 LaunchNotes actions
LaunchNotes gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Announcement
ActionIn Zapier“Adds a draft announcement to your LaunchNotes project”
Adds a draft announcement to a LaunchNotes project, with a headline and its content, ready for someone to review and publish.
Create Subscription
ActionIn Zapier“Add a new subscriber to your LaunchNotes project”
Adds a new subscriber to your LaunchNotes project from just an email address, the one mandatory field.
When a LaunchNotes Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article and no rate limit specific to LaunchNotes. What breaks is what breaks on every Zap, plus one loop the actions make easy.
Check these four cases before you publish. If a Zap already misbehaves, see our Zapier troubleshooting page.
The subscriber loop
A Zap started by Subscription Created that runs Create Subscription triggers itself again and again, and burns through the task count of your plan.Nothing from before the Zap
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Announcements and subscriptions created earlier never come through.Drafts that stay drafts
Create Announcement writes a draft only. If nobody publishes it in LaunchNotes, Announcement Published never fires and the next Zap waits for nothing.Bulk changes held back
A trigger that suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, can be held back by Zapier's flood protection.
