Overview

What the Lime Cellular Zapier integration does for you

Connecting Lime Cellular to Zapier means a Zap, the automation you build on Zapier, listens to your text message marketing account and acts on it, or feeds it from your other tools. Twelve operations are on offer: four ways to hear about changes in your opt-in lists, eight ways to send, add or tidy up.

Three results worth building. A coupon for every new subscriber: New Contact Created fires when someone joins an opt-in list, and Send SMS Coupon sends them one of your coupons. Reminders that book themselves: a booking lands in another tool, and Add an Appointment puts it in the Lime calendar with the message the participant receives before the appointment. A clean list everywhere: when Contact Removed fires, the same person can be struck from your spreadsheet or marked as gone in another tool.

What Zapier does not do for this app. There is no search step: Find Contact is listed as an action, and it wants a Contact Id plus the list it sits in. No trigger reacts to incoming replies or to a single SMS sent, only to bulk sends and to contact changes. And nothing here creates or edits the opt-in lists, keywords or coupons themselves: those must already exist in Lime before a Zap can use them.

On the bright side, the four triggers are instant: Lime calls Zapier itself, so even on the free plan nothing waits for a timer. If you are weighing Zapier against other platforms for this kind of work, see our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back throughout this page. Here they are in plain English, once, so the rest reads without a dictionary.

Zap
Your automation on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for it to happen.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that sends, adds or removes something for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance counts these and nothing else.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens. All four Lime Cellular triggers work this way.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items. Lime Cellular has none, so no timer applies.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Lime Cellular Zap really costs

Lime Cellular is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. Zapier counts in tasks, and the trigger never costs one.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • TriggerNever costs a task
  • Lime triggersAll instant, no waiting on any plan

Each action that goes through counts once; an action that fails is not billed. A Zap that sends a text to every new subscriber spends one task per subscriber. Add a coupon after the text and it spends two. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps only: one trigger, one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is for polling triggers only, and it does not apply here: all four Lime triggers are instant, so on any plan, free included, nothing waits for a scheduled check.

Connect

Connect your Lime Cellular account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Lime Cellular account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that talks to Lime.

  2. 02

    Pick Lime Cellular

Type Lime Cellular in the search box of the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Lime Cellular side, where you sign in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in with your Lime Cellular account and grant Zapier access to it. If the Zap will touch lists or contacts you do not manage yourself, check first that this account has read or write access to them.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a coupon for each new subscriber

GoalWhen someone joins your opt-in list, check they meet your condition, then text them a coupon from Lime Cellular.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap from your Zapier dashboard. The editor opens on an empty trigger step, waiting for the app and the event that should start everything.

  2. 02

    Set the trigger

Pick Lime Cellular, then New Contact Created, choose your connection and enter the Opt-in List ID to watch. Test it: Zapier brings back the three most recent contacts so you work on a real one.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add Filter and fill its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, and the value to compare with. Only contacts that pass go on. This makes the Zap multi-step, so a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add Send SMS Coupon

Add Lime Cellular again with Send SMS Coupon. Pick the Coupon ID of an existing coupon, and drop the contact's mobile number from the trigger into Mobile number.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and read what came back; the test sends a real coupon, so use your own number. Then click Publish. Only contacts who join from now on get a coupon.

Triggers

Lime Cellular triggers in Zapier

4 events start a Zap when something happens in Lime Cellular, and 4 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Bulk Text SMS Sent

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a SMS text message was sent in bulk.”

Starts the Zap each time a text goes out in bulk from Lime, to a whole opt-in list rather than one number. You get the details of that send to pass on to the next steps.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
you want a line written in a shared sheet each time a campaign leaves, so everyone sees what was sent and when.
Watch out
the trigger asks for an Opt-in List ID, so it follows the bulk sends of one list at a time.
2

Contact Removed

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a contact is removed.”

Goes off when a contact is taken out of Lime Cellular. It is the signal that a person no longer belongs in your texting audience, and that other tools should hear about it too.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
someone leaves your list, and your spreadsheet or another tool should drop them as well, so no one keeps writing to them by mistake.
Watch out
contacts removed before the Zap was published are never reported, only the ones removed afterwards.
3

Contact Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a contact has been updated within an opt-in List.”

Fires when the details of a contact change inside one opt-in list. Whatever was edited, the Zap receives the contact as it now stands in that list.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a subscriber's details change in Lime and the copy kept elsewhere should follow, without anyone copying it over.
Watch out
adding Update Contact in an Opt-In List on the same list makes the Zap write where its own trigger watches, which can set it off again and again.
4

New Contact Created

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new contact is added to opt-in list.”

Kicks off as soon as a new contact is added to the opt-in list you chose. This is the welcome moment: the person has just said yes to your texts.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
you want to greet each new subscriber with a text or a coupon, or copy them into another list.
Watch out
the Opt-in List ID is required, so one Zap watches one list; another list needs another Zap.
Actions

Lime Cellular actions in Zapier

Lime Cellular gives you 8 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add an Appointment

Action

In Zapier“Add an appointment to the calendar”

Puts an appointment in the Lime calendar, along with the text the participant gets before it. Lime adds the confirmation wording itself when the appointment type calls for it.

When to use it
bookings are taken in another tool and you want the text reminder handled by Lime.
Watch out
the date goes as yyyy-mm-dd, the time on the 24-hour clock as hh:mm:ss, and the number as 999-999-9999, with dashes this time.
2

Add Contact to an Opt-In List

Action

In Zapier“Create/Subscribe a contact in an opt-in list”

Subscribes a person to one of your opt-in lists from data arriving elsewhere. You give the list, its keyword and the mobile number.

When to use it
someone ticks a box in your sign-up form and should land in Lime without being typed in.
Watch out
the mobile number goes in as 10 digits with no dashes or brackets, and the keyword must be written as it shows in Lime, short code included.
3

Remove Contact From an Opt-In List

Action

In Zapier“Remove or unsubscribe a contact from an opt-in list.”

Unsubscribes a contact from one opt-in list, so they stop receiving that list's texts. You give the list Id and the contact Id.

When to use it
someone asks to stop in another channel and Lime should honour it without manual cleanup.
Watch out
it acts on one list only; a contact present in several lists stays in the others.
4

Find Contact

Action

In Zapier“Find a contact by contact ID or email / mobile / first name / last name.”

Looks a contact up in an opt-in list and hands its details to the next steps. In Zapier it sits among the actions, not under a search heading.

When to use it
before an update, to fetch the full record of a contact you only know by its Id.
Watch out
the Contact Id is required, even though Lime describes other ways to find a contact.
5

Send SMS Coupon

Action

In Zapier“Send an SMS coupon to a mobile phone number”

Texts one of your Lime coupons to a single mobile number. The coupon itself is built in Lime; the Zap only picks it and sends it.

When to use it
an event in another tool should reward the person concerned, without anyone stepping in to send it.
Watch out
the Coupon ID must point to a coupon that already exists in your account.
6

Send Bulk SMS

Action

In Zapier“Send SMS message to many mobile numbers”

Fires one message to every number in an opt-in list, through the list's keyword. It is the campaign button, pressed by a Zap.

When to use it
an event elsewhere should alert your whole audience, without you logging in to Lime to send it.
Watch out
the message has a character limit set by Lime, so keep it short and test before you publish.
7

Send SMS Message(s)

Action

In Zapier“Send SMS message to one or more mobile phone numbers.”

Sends one text to one mobile number, or to several at once. You write the message and map the numbers from earlier steps.

When to use it
a one-off event in another tool deserves a text, like a confirmation or a heads-up to a short list of people.
Watch out
each number receives the same message, so anything personal has to be mapped per run, not per person.
8

Update Contact in an Opt-In List

Action

In Zapier“Update Contact in an opt-In list.”

Changes the details of a contact who is already in an opt-in list. You point at the list and the contact, then map the new values.

When to use it
a subscriber corrects their details in another tool and Lime should carry the same.
Watch out
it needs the Contact ID; when you do not have it, put a Find Contact step just before this one.
When it breaks

When a Lime Cellular Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Lime Cellular, and no limit specific to the app is documented. What goes wrong comes from the rules every Zap follows.

Three situations explain most surprises here, and all of them come from the rules every Zap follows rather than from Lime. If you get stuck on one, open our Zapier troubleshooting page.

  • Existing contacts are never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Contacts already in your lists get no welcome text; reaching them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

A Zap that writes where its own trigger watches, like Contact Updated followed by Update Contact on the same list, can restart on its own output and drain your tasks.
  • A big import gets held back

Import a large batch of contacts at once and the trigger may hand Zapier a huge wave of new contacts. Zapier's flood protection can hold it back.

FAQ

Lime Cellular Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Lime Cellular Zapier integration free?
Yes, on the Zapier side, as long as your Zaps stay simple. Lime Cellular is not a premium app, so the free plan reaches it, with 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps: one trigger and one action. Add a filter, or chain a text and a coupon, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Zapier's prices change too often to be quoted here, so check the current plan table before you commit.
02How many tasks does a Lime Cellular Zap use?
One per action that succeeds, and none for the trigger. A Zap that texts each new subscriber spends one task per subscriber. Put Find Contact before Update Contact and that is two tasks per run, since Find Contact is an action here, not a free search. An action that fails is not counted. To estimate a month, multiply the number of actions in the Zap by the number of times it really runs.
03Does Lime Cellular work in real time with Zapier?
Yes. All four Lime Cellular triggers are instant: Lime tells Zapier the moment a contact is added, updated or removed, or a bulk text goes out. The polling interval that comes with each plan does not apply to them. So even a free account gets its Zap started straight away. The editor shows a lightning bolt on Zaps built this way, which is a quick way to check. Handy if your free plan is all you have.
04What does it take to connect Lime Cellular to Zapier?
A Lime Cellular account, and rights on the lists the Zap will touch. You add it from the Apps page with + Add connection, sign in to Lime in the tab that opens and grant access. Before building, make sure the opt-in lists, their keywords and any coupons exist in Lime, since nearly every operation asks for an Opt-in List ID and Send SMS Coupon for a Coupon ID. Without them, the fields stay empty.
05Why does Lime reject the mobile number?
Usually because the format differs from one action to the next. Add Contact to an Opt-In List wants 10 digits with no dashes or brackets. Add an Appointment wants the 999-999-9999 pattern, dashes included, and its time on the 24-hour clock as hh:mm:ss. Map the same number into both without reformatting it and one of the two steps fails. Test each step with a real number before you publish. One format per field, every time.
06What if the Lime Cellular operation you want is not there?
Then this integration cannot do it, and no hidden setting unlocks it. On Zapier, Lime Cellular offers four triggers and eight actions, and no search step. Creating a list or a coupon, or reacting to an incoming reply, is not on the list. In that case, look at how other automation platforms handle Lime Cellular before building a workaround, and weigh the effort against what the missing step would bring.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Lime Cellular?
It depends on your criteria, not on a single winner. Zapier is the fastest to start here: the twelve operations are ready, the four triggers are instant even on the free plan, and the editor guides you. To choose, put the three side by side on the same criteria: which Lime Cellular operations each one offers, whether its triggers arrive at once or on a check, how a run is billed, and how much of the build you want to maintain yourself.
