Overview

What the Luxafor Zapier integration is for

The Luxafor Zapier integration links Luxafor's focus lights to the rest of your tools, in both directions. Luxafor makes status lights, the Flag, the Orb and a Bluetooth model, meant to help you stay on the task in front of you. On Zapier you get one trigger, the mute button, and three actions that drive the light.

Three results come out of it. A visible status: Solid Color sets the light to one color and leaves it there, so people around you see whether to interrupt. An alert you cannot miss: Blink Color flashes the light when something happens in another app, so a notification reaches you without a screen. A physical shortcut: Luxafor Mute Button Pressed turns a press on the button into the start of a Zap, for instance a message posted in your chat tool.

The trigger is instant, and that is the best news on this page: the press reaches Zapier straight away, even on the free plan, with no waiting for a scheduled check.

What Zapier does not do for Luxafor matters too. There is no search step and nothing to read the current state of the light, so a Zap cannot ask which color is on. The button is the only event Luxafor reports; everything else has to come from another app. And each action needs its Color or Pattern filled in, or it has nothing to show.

Vocabulary

Zapier terms, explained once

Seven words come back on this page. Each one is explained here and then used without a reminder.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. For Luxafor, that is a press on the mute button; Zapier then waits for the next one.
Action
What the Zap does once started. With Luxafor, the actions change the light: a steady color, a blink, or a pattern.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. Your plan counts tasks, not Zaps or button presses.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself as soon as the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your Luxafor account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that reads the button or drives the light.
Cost

What a Luxafor Zap costs

Luxafor is not a premium app, so the trigger and the three actions all work on the free plan. Your bill comes from the actions: every light change that goes through counts as one task.

  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • BilledOne task per light action that succeeds
  • Not billedThe button press, a failed action

A press on the mute button is a trigger, and a trigger never costs a task. An action that fails is not counted either. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only, one trigger and one action. A filter, or a second action such as a blink after a chat message, makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. The grid below shows how often Zapier checks a polling trigger on each plan; it does not apply to the Luxafor button, which is instant, only to a polling trigger from another app that drives your light.

Connect

Connect Luxafor to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Go to Apps

In your Zapier account, open Apps, then click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box. You need a Luxafor account before you start, since Zapier connects to that account.

  2. 02

    Choose Luxafor

Type Luxafor, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Luxafor side, where you sign in, once, with the account your light is tied to.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to use the account. The connection then shows in your Apps list, and the trigger and the three actions all reuse it, so you go through this once, not in every Zap.

First Zap

Your first Luxafor Zap

GoalOne press on the Luxafor mute button sets the light to a color you choose and tells your team in chat.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick Luxafor as the trigger app, then Luxafor Mute Button Pressed as the event. Select the connection you added earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Press the button, then run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent presses from the connected account, so the next steps are set on a real one.

  3. 03

    Add Solid Color

Add an action, choose Luxafor, then Solid Color. Fill in the Color field with the color you want for this signal; without it, the step cannot run.

  4. 04

    Add the chat message

A second action that posts in your chat tool turns this into a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. On the free plan, stop after Solid Color.

  5. 05

    Test and publish

Test each step and watch the light change. Then click Publish. Only presses made after publishing start the Zap; earlier ones are not replayed.

Triggers

The Luxafor trigger

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Luxafor, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Luxafor Mute Button Pressed

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when Luxafor Mute Button is pressed.”

Starts a Zap each time someone presses the Luxafor mute button. The press becomes an event Zapier can act on, so a physical gesture at your desk can set off steps in your other tools. It is the only event Luxafor reports to Zapier.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
you want one press to announce that you are heads-down, for example by posting a short status in your team chat while the light turns on.
Watch out
presses made before the Zap is published are never picked up, and the free plan stops at one action after the press.
Actions

The Luxafor actions

Luxafor gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

2

Play Pattern

Action

In Zapier“Plays Luxafor light pattern.”

Runs one of Luxafor's light patterns, an animated sequence rather than a fixed color. It stands out from the everyday status and works as a signal reserved for one kind of event.

When to use it
you want a single, recognizable signal for the event that matters most to you.
Watch out
the Pattern field is required, and the step does nothing without it.
3

Solid Color

Action

In Zapier“Sets Luxafor light color.”

Sets your Luxafor light to a single color and keeps it there until another step changes it. It is the steady signal, the one people read from across the room.

When to use it
a status change elsewhere, such as entering a focus block, should show on your desk.
Watch out
the Color field is required; an empty one stops the step.
When it breaks

When a Luxafor Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Luxafor, and the app page lists no limit of its own. What goes wrong is the general behavior of Zapier, plus the required fields of the light actions.

Four cases cover what you are likely to meet. Read them before switching a Zap on, and if something still misbehaves, see our Zapier troubleshooting page.

  • Earlier presses are not replayed

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is published. Button presses, messages or events from before that moment never start it, and nothing can make them do so later.
  • An empty Color or Pattern blocks the step

Blink Color and Solid Color require a Color, Play Pattern requires a Pattern. When the field is empty, the action has nothing to display and the step does not run.
  • A burst can be held back

If the app that drives your light suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
  • Repeats are filtered on polling apps

When another app with a polling trigger drives the light, Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same item does not make the light change twice.

FAQ

Luxafor Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Luxafor Zapier integration free?
Yes, it works on the free plan. Luxafor is not a premium app, so the mute button trigger and the three light actions are open without paying. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps, one trigger and one action, which is exactly what a button press followed by a color change needs. Add a filter or a second action, such as a chat message, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which requires a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Luxafor Zap use?
One task per light action that succeeds. Solid Color, Blink Color and Play Pattern each count as one task when they run. The mute button press is a trigger, and triggers never cost anything. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. If the press also posts a chat message, that second action counts on its own, so the Zap uses two tasks per press instead of one.
03Does the Luxafor button trigger work in real time?
Yes. Luxafor Mute Button Pressed is an instant trigger: Luxafor tells Zapier as soon as the button is pressed, so the Zap starts right away whatever your plan, and the polling grid does not apply to it. The light actions run when the Zap reaches them. If another app drives the light through a polling trigger, that side waits for Zapier's next check: 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise.
04What does it take to connect Luxafor to Zapier?
A Luxafor account you can sign in to. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Luxafor, click Add connection, then sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. Zapier stores the connection and reuses it for the trigger and every light action. Before building, decide which Color or Pattern each Zap should use, because those fields are required and an empty one stops the step. That saves a failed first test.
05Why does the Luxafor light not change when the Zap runs?
Most often because the required field is empty. Blink Color and Solid Color need a Color, Play Pattern needs a Pattern; without it the action has nothing to show. Test the step on its own in the editor and check what it sent. Also keep in mind that a Zap ignores anything that happened before it was published, so an old event will never change the light. Fill the field, test again, then publish.
06What if the Luxafor operation you need is missing?
Then Zapier does not offer it today, and no setting adds it. For Luxafor the catalog holds one trigger, the mute button, and three actions: Solid Color, Blink Color and Play Pattern. There is no search step and nothing to read the current light. Rework the idea around those four, keep that part manual, or check whether another automation tool covers more of Luxafor. The Zapier app page is the reference.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Luxafor?
Compare them on what each tool can reach in Luxafor, not on a general ranking. On Zapier the scope is clear: an instant button trigger that works on the free plan, and three actions that change the light. If a press or an outside event mapped to a color is the whole idea, Zapier gets there quickly. If you need more, check which Luxafor operations Make or n8n list, then compare how each counts what it bills.
