What the Marvelous Zapier integration actually does
Marvelous is an online teaching platform where you build and sell courses, memberships and group coaching programs. Linked to Zapier, its student and purchase events start work in your other tools, and those tools can enrol students or grant and remove product access in Marvelous. All five triggers are instant.
Three outcomes worth building. Bonus access handed out on purchase: Product Purchase starts the Zap, a filter checks which product was bought, and Add Product to Student gives the buyer a second product, with nobody checking orders by hand. An email list that follows your studio: Student Signup sends each new student to your email tool, and Student Updated keeps their details current there. Enrolment from outside Marvelous: Add Student brings someone into your studio from a sale or a form handled elsewhere, creating their Marvelous account when the email is new.
What Zapier does not do here: there is no search step on this app, so a Zap cannot look up a student or a product in Marvelous first. No action creates a product, edits a course or deletes a student; the only removal is Remove Product From Student, which takes away access to one product.

Zapier words, in plain English
Eight terms carry this whole page. Here is each one, once.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts the Zap. With Marvelous, a sign-up, a purchase, a cancelled or terminated subscription, a student update.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you in an app.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully; your plan counts those.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself: it calls Zapier when the event happens, with no timed check. All five Marvelous triggers are instant.
- Polling trigger
- The other kind: Zapier asks the app on a timer and keeps only what it has not seen. Marvelous has none of them.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and that needs a paid plan.
What Marvelous on Zapier costs you
Marvelous is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and only successful actions count.
- Trigger0 task, always
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, Zaps of two steps
- Premium appNo
The trigger costs nothing: a purchase that starts your Zap is free in itself. Each action that goes through costs one task, so granting a bonus product costs one per buyer. A failed action is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps of two steps each; a filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is for polling triggers only and does not apply to the five instant Marvelous triggers.
Connect Marvelous to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
Have your Marvelous account ready. In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Marvelous account linked once, then reused by every Zap that uses it.
- 02
Pick Marvelous
Type Marvelous in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Marvelous side, where the rest of the setup happens.
- 03
Sign in and allow access
Log in to Marvelous in that tab and grant Zapier access. If the studio or products you want to automate belong to an account you do not own, get read or write rights on it first.
Your first Zap: a bonus product on purchase
GoalWhen a student buys a given product, Zapier adds a second Marvelous product to that student's access.
- 01
Start with the purchase
Create a Zap, pick Marvelous as the app that starts it and Product Purchase as the event, then select your Marvelous connection.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the account, so you set up the next steps on a real purchase rather than a guess.
- 03
Add the filter
Click the plus icon, choose Filter, then set the field that identifies the product, the rule and the value. Use a text rule on text, a number rule on numbers.
- 04
Grant the bonus
Add Add Product to Student. Map the buyer's email from step one and type the Product ID of the bonus product. Check the field names on the test.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test each step once and read what came back. Then click Publish. With a filter inside, this Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan.
The 5 Marvelous triggers
5 events start a Zap when something happens in Marvelous, and 5 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Product Purchase
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a student purchases a product.”
Starts your Zap each time a student buys one of your products. It is the natural starting point for anything that should follow a sale, from a receipt log to extra access.
Product Subscription Canceled
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a student cancels subscription.”
Reports when a student cancels a subscription to one of your products. It lets you react to a cancellation in the tools Marvelous does not reach.
Product Subscription Terminated
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a student terminates subscription.”
Fires when a student terminates a subscription. Next to the cancel trigger, it gives you a second, distinct signal on the end of a membership.
Student Updated
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a student updates contact information.”
Kicks off when a student changes their contact information in Marvelous. It is how a new email or name reaches the tools that keep a copy of that student.
Student Signup
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new student joins a studio.”
Runs when a new student joins your studio. Whatever you want to happen at the start of a student's journey can hang off this event.
The 3 Marvelous actions
Marvelous gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Add Product to Student
ActionIn Zapier“Adds Product to Student”
Gives a student access to one of your products, identified by its ID.
Add Student
ActionIn Zapier“Adds Student to Studio. New Student account is created if email does not yet exist and an email is sent to the Student to complete their registration. If a Student account with such email already exists on the Marvelous platform, Student is added to Studio.”
Brings a person into your studio by email. If no Marvelous account has that email, one is created and the student gets an email to finish registering; if it exists, they are simply added.
Remove Product From Student
ActionIn Zapier“Removes a Product access from the Student”
Takes away a student's access to one product, without touching the rest of their account.
When the Marvelous Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Marvelous and no app-specific limit is on record, so the known traps are the general ones.
Read these before you publish. If a Zap already misbehaves, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Past students are never picked up
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Students and purchases from before stay put; moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that sets itself off
A Zap that writes into the very place its trigger watches can start itself again and again, such as Add Student behind Student Signup. Keep them apart.A sudden flood held back
If a trigger suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import of students for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.Cancel or terminate, the wrong one
Two triggers cover the end of a subscription. Building on the wrong one means the Zap never starts when you expect, so test both on a real case.
