Overview

What the Membado Zapier integration does

Membado is a community and course platform based in Germany. On Zapier it does one thing: it tells your other tools when someone asks to join your community and when someone actually joins. Every Zap starts in Membado and continues in another app, since Membado offers no action.

No join request left waiting. New Join Request fires when someone asks to get in, so a message lands in your team chat and whoever reviews requests knows there is one to look at.

A mailing list that follows your community. New Member fires when someone joins, and the Zap can add them to your email tool without an export.

A member log you can share. The same trigger can add one spreadsheet row per new member, a running list you can sort and pass around without opening Membado.

What Zapier does not do with Membado: there is no action and no search. A Zap cannot approve a request, add a member, enrol someone in a course or read anything back from Membado. It can only react to the two events above. The good news: both triggers are instant, so even on the free plan nothing waits for a scheduled check, and each Zap stays within two steps as long as it has one action and no filter. If you are weighing other tools for that, see our Zapier alternatives page.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Seven words come back across this page. Here they are, once, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, always in another app with Membado.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Polling vs instant
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Membado Zap really costs

Membado is not a premium app, so both triggers work on the free plan. You pay in tasks, and the Membado triggers never use one.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Steps per Zap on Free2 (one trigger, one action)
  • Membado triggers0 tasks
  • Premium appNo

Watching for join requests and new members costs nothing, however many come in. Each action that goes through counts once, and one that fails is not counted. Since Membado has no action, the tasks are spent in the other app: one subscriber or one message per event. The free plan stops at two steps, so a filter or a second action makes a multi-step Zap that needs a paid plan. The grid below is how often Zapier checks a polling trigger; both Membado triggers are instant, so it does not apply to them.

Connect

Connect your Membado account

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog with a search box opens: type Membado, then pick it from the list of results.

  2. 02

    Sign in to Membado

Click Add connection. A new tab opens on Membado: sign in with the account that runs the community you want to watch. You need a Membado account before you start.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to use the account. The connection is saved once and both Membado triggers reuse it, so your next Zap picks it up without going through these steps again.

First Zap

Your first Zap: tell the team about new join requests

GoalEach request to join your Membado community that passes a condition you set in a filter becomes a message in your team chat.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap, pick Membado as the trigger app and New Join Request as the event, then choose the Membado connection you made earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you can see what a join request carries before mapping it.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, then set the field to look at, the rule and the value. Mind the rule type: a text rule only works on text.

  4. 04

    Add the chat step

Add your chat app with its send-message action, and map the request details you saw at the test into the message your team will read.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the chat step and read the message. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan. Then click Publish to switch it on.

Triggers

Membado triggers

2 events start a Zap when something happens in Membado, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Join Request

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when someone requests to join your community.”

Starts a Zap when someone asks to join your Membado community. At that point the person is not a member yet: the request is what reaches Zapier, and what happens to it is still decided in Membado.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
you review requests by hand and want the person in charge to hear about each new one in the chat or inbox they already watch.
Watch out
Zapier has no Membado action, so the Zap can announce a request but never approve or decline it; that step stays in Membado.
2

New Member

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when someone joins your community.”

Fires when someone joins your Membado community. This is the moment to welcome them elsewhere: add them to a mailing list, a spreadsheet or a CRM.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
your email tool should hold every member of the community without anyone exporting and importing lists.
Watch out
members who joined before the Zap was switched on never come through, and a bulk import can be held back by Zapier's flood protection. Check at the test which member details arrive before you map them.
When it breaks

When a Membado Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Membado and lists no limit of its own for it. What breaks is what breaks on every app.

Here are the cases worth checking first. If a Zap misbehaves for another reason, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • No backlog

A Zap only reacts to requests and members that arrive after you switch it on. Everyone already in Membado is never picked up; moving that list is a separate job.
  • Flood protection

If a large batch of members arrives at once, after an import for example, Zapier can hold it back with its flood protection. Plan bulk changes outside live Zaps.
  • Loops in the other app

Membado has no action, so a Zap cannot write back into it. A loop can only happen in the other app, if a Zap writes where its own trigger watches.

FAQ

Membado Zapier integration: questions

01Is the Membado Zapier integration free?
Yes. Membado is not a premium app, so both triggers work on Zapier's free plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A New Member Zap that adds each member to your email tool fits. The join-request Zap above, with its filter, is multi-step and needs a paid plan. The triggers themselves never cost a task.
02How many tasks does a Membado Zap use?
The Membado triggers cost nothing, and neither does waiting for requests or new members. What counts is each action that succeeds afterwards, in the other app: one subscriber added per new member, or one message per join request. A Zap that adds a subscriber and also posts in your chat uses two tasks per member. An action that fails is not counted, so a failed message does not eat into your 100 monthly tasks on Free.
03Do Membado triggers work in real time?
Yes. Both New Join Request and New Member are instant triggers: Membado tells Zapier the moment the event happens, and the Zap starts right away whatever your plan. The interval grid, 15 minutes on Free down to 1 minute on Team and Enterprise, only covers polling triggers, so it does not apply here. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. The type is set by the app and cannot be changed from Zapier.
04What does connecting Membado to Zapier take?
A Membado account. Open the Apps page of your Zapier account, click + Add connection, pick Membado, sign in in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. Both triggers then reuse the connection in every Zap. Sign in with the account that runs the community you want to watch; you also need read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. The connection is made once, not for each Zap.
05New Join Request or New Member: which trigger to use?
It depends on the moment you want to react to. New Join Request fires when someone asks to join your community, before they are in; use it to alert whoever reviews requests. New Member fires when someone has actually joined; use it to add them to a list or a spreadsheet. If your community does not go through requests, test New Join Request first to see whether it brings anything back on your account.
06What if the Membado operation you want is not there?
Then this integration does not offer it. The Membado page on Zapier shows the current list of operations, so check there first. The list read for this page holds two triggers and nothing else: no action to approve a request, create a member or enrol someone, and no search to read data back. If the need is to react to requests or new members, those two cover it. If it involves changing something in Membado, see whether another automation tool covers that step.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Membado?
Pick on criteria, not on a ranking. Coverage first: on Zapier, Membado brings two instant triggers and no action, so compare that with what the other tools list for Membado, especially if you need to write into it. Then the size of your workflow: the Zapier free plan allows a trigger and one action per Zap. Finally upkeep: the tool your team already uses is the easiest one to keep running.
