Overview

What the Messente Zapier integration does

Messente is an SMS service for sending business notifications and marketing messages. On Zapier it brings one move: send a text. You build a Zap (the automation you set up on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens) where another app supplies the event and Messente sends the message.

A text that confirms what just happened. A new row lands in your spreadsheet, and Send SMS texts the phone number written in it, using your approved sender name. Nobody copies numbers by hand.

An alert for the person on duty. When a form tool records an answer that matters, the Zap texts a colleague's mobile so the news does not wait in an inbox.

A short message to a list, one person at a time. Each new contact in your contact tool gets the same message, sent from Messente, with the wording you set once in the Zap.

Know the limits too. Messente brings no trigger to Zapier, so no Zap starts from it, and no search, so no Zap looks up an earlier message. Every send needs enough available credits on your Messente account, and its price depends on the number of SMS and the destination country. Recipient also wants the number in international format, with the plus sign and the country code. For more, see our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Eight terms come back across this page. Here they are in plain words.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Messente has none on Zapier, so the trigger always comes from another app.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you. Here, Send SMS.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Each text that goes out through Send SMS is one task.
Polling vs instant trigger
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer; an instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens. Your other app decides which.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Connection
Your Messente account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that uses the app, in any Zap.
Cost

What it really costs you

On Zapier you pay in tasks. The trigger of your other app never costs one, and neither does the waiting in between.

  • Trigger of the other app0 tasks
  • Each SMS sent1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan

Every Send SMS that goes through counts as one task; a send that fails is not counted. The free plan offers 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each held to two steps, so one trigger plus Send SMS fits. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Messente is not a premium app. The grid below is how often Zapier checks a polling trigger on each plan: it applies to the other app's trigger when that trigger is a polling one.

Connect

Connect your Messente account

  1. 01

Open Apps and add a connection

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. Type Messente in the search box of the dialog, pick it, then click Add connection.

  2. 02

    Sign in and grant access

A tab opens on Messente. Sign in there and grant Zapier access to the account. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Reuse it in every Zap

The account is now linked to Zapier once. Every Send SMS step you add later, in this Zap or the next one, picks up that same connection, so you sign in to Messente from Zapier only this once.

First Zap

Your first Zap: text the right rows only

GoalSend an SMS for each new spreadsheet row that meets a condition you choose, using the phone number in the row.

  1. 01

    Build the trigger

Start a new Zap and pick your spreadsheet app with its new-row event as the start. Connect the account, then test: Zapier brings back the three most recent items so you work on a real row.

  2. 02

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add Filter and set its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, and the value to compare with. Use a text rule on text. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so a paid plan.

  3. 03

    Add Send SMS

Pick Messente and Send SMS. Choose your approved sender name in From / Sender Name, map the phone column into Recipient, and write Message Content, mixing fixed words with values from the row.

  4. 04

    Check the number format

Recipient wants the mobile number in international format, with the plus sign and country code. If your sheet stores numbers another way, fix the column before testing.

  5. 05

    Test and publish

Test the action once and read what came back, then publish the Zap to switch it on. Each text sent is one task. For a guided start, see our Zapier training.

Actions

The action

Messente gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Send SMS

Action

In Zapier“Send an SMS to any country in the world. It's pre-required to have a Messente account with enough available credits. The price of the service depends on the SMS amount and destination country. Calculate the cost”

Texts one mobile number from your Messente account, with the sender name and content you set, to a recipient in any country.

When to use it
at the end of any Zap where an event in another app should reach someone's phone rather than their inbox.
Watch out
the price depends on the number of SMS and the destination country, so check what a message will cost with the SMS Length Calculator Messente points to.
When it breaks

When it breaks

Zapier links no help article to Messente. What follows is how every Zap behaves, plus the conditions Send SMS spells out itself.

Four cases are worth checking before you blame either app. If the Zap still misbehaves, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Not enough credits

Send SMS needs a Messente account with enough available credits. Check the balance before you switch on a Zap that will send a lot.
  • Sender name not approved

From / Sender Name only accepts a sender Messente has already approved. Apply for a numeric or alphanumeric sender before switching the Zap on.
  • Nothing from before the Zap

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Rows or contacts that already existed are never texted; sending to that backlog is a separate job.
  • A sudden flood held back

After a bulk import or a migration, a trigger that suddenly returns a huge batch can be held back by Zapier's flood protection.

FAQ

Questions people ask

01Is the Messente Zapier integration free?
Yes, on Zapier's free plan, because Messente is not a premium app. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you like, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A trigger from your spreadsheet followed by Send SMS fits exactly. Add a filter to text only some rows, or a second action, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does it use?
One per text that goes out successfully. The trigger in your other app costs nothing, so a Zap that texts each new row uses one task per row. If a filter keeps only some rows, the rows it stops cost nothing either, because no action ran for them. A failed send is not counted. On the free plan, 100 tasks a month means 100 texts sent through Zapier, so size the Zap to the volume you expect.
03Is it real time?
That depends on the other app, because Messente has no trigger on Zapier. If the app that starts the Zap has an instant trigger, it reports the event to Zapier the moment it happens and the text follows right away. If its trigger is a polling one, Zapier checks on a timer: every 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. Check the type on that app's own page on Zapier.
04What does connecting the account require?
An account on Messente, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. On Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Messente, click Add connection, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. Before building, make sure the account has a sender name already approved by Messente, because Send SMS will not go out without one, and enough credits.
05What decides the price of each text?
The number of SMS and the destination country, according to Messente's own description of Send SMS. The action also needs a Messente account with enough available credits before anything goes out. For Message Content, Messente points to its SMS Length Calculator to manage what your messages cost. This page quotes no price: check it on your Messente account. Separately, each text sent also counts as one Zapier task, whatever it costs on Messente.
06What if the operation you need is not there?
Then Zapier cannot do it with Messente. The app page on Zapier shows the current list, and it holds a single action, Send SMS, with no trigger and no search. Say you want a Zap to start from Messente: no trigger covers it, and no search looks up a past message. If the missing piece sits in another app, add that app as its own step. If it only exists inside Messente, Zapier has no way to reach it.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Messente?
Pick by criteria, not by a ranking. Start with coverage: on Zapier, Messente offers only Send SMS, so check whether Make or n8n provide a Messente connector and whether it reacts to events in Messente, since this page documents Zapier only. Then look at volume: every text is one Zapier task, on top of the Messente credits. Last, think about who will build and maintain the automations, and which tool that person already knows.
