What the Microsoft Clarity Zapier integration does for you
Microsoft Clarity is a free tool that records how real visitors use your website. Through Zapier, one thing in it can start a Zap, the automation that runs each time an event happens in one app and makes something happen in another: a dashboard metric going past a threshold you chose. Nobody has to keep the dashboard open to notice it.
An alert in your team chat. Change in Dashboard Metrics fires when the metric you picked exceeds your threshold, and the next step posts a message where your team already talks.
A record of every crossing. The same trigger can add a row to a spreadsheet each time, so you keep a dated trail of when the metric went over the line.
Several metrics, several Zaps. Each trigger watches one metric with one threshold. Two metrics to watch means two Zaps, each sending its alert where it belongs.
What Zapier does not do here: Clarity has no action, so a Zap cannot write anything into Clarity, change a project or tag a recording. There is no search step either, so a Zap cannot ask Clarity for a value on demand. Clarity only ever starts the Zap; everything after it happens in other apps.
Zapier also links a help article to this app, How to get started with Microsoft Clarity on Zapier. Still choosing the tool itself? See our Zapier review.
Zapier words in one minute
Eight terms come back on this page. One plain line each.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. For Clarity, it is a dashboard metric going past your threshold.
- Action
- What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or moves something. Clarity has none, so actions come from other apps.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action completed successfully. Your plan counts tasks and nothing else.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself, calling Zapier the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for a scheduled check.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval. Clarity has none of those.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Microsoft Clarity Zap really costs
Microsoft Clarity is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works from the free plan.
- Premium appNo
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- BilledEach successful action in another app
- Not billedThe Clarity trigger, and failed actions
The Clarity trigger itself never costs a task. What you pay for are the actions that follow in other apps: each one that succeeds counts as one task, and one that fails is not counted. A Zap that posts in a chat and also logs a row uses two tasks per alert. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps of two steps each. The interval grid below concerns polling triggers; it does not apply to Change in Dashboard Metrics, which is instant.
Connect Microsoft Clarity to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Clarity account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Clarity trigger you set up.
- 02
Find Microsoft Clarity
Search for Microsoft Clarity in the dialog, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens, and that is where you finish linking the account.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to Clarity in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
Your first Zap: a chat alert when a metric goes over
GoalWhen the Clarity metric you watch exceeds your threshold, keep only the alerts that meet your condition, then post a message in your team chat.
- 01
Create the Zap with the Clarity trigger
Start a new Zap, pick Microsoft Clarity and
Change in Dashboard Metricsas the event, then select your Clarity connection. - 02
Choose the metric and the threshold
Pick the metric by its name in Metric by percentage, then enter the threshold. Check the current value in your Clarity project first.
- 03
Test the trigger
Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the account. Pick a real one so the next steps map true data.
- 04
Add the filter and the chat message
Click the plus icon, add Filter and fill the field, the rule and the value. Then add your team chat and map the metric details into the message.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test each step and read what came back. Click Publish to switch the Zap on. With its filter, it is a multi-step Zap and needs a paid plan.
The Microsoft Clarity trigger
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Microsoft Clarity, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Change in Dashboard Metrics
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when there's a change in dashboard metrics.”
Starts your Zap when a metric on your Clarity dashboard goes beyond the threshold you set. You choose the metric by name, type the threshold, and whatever comes next runs in other apps, from a chat alert to a spreadsheet row.
When a Microsoft Clarity Zap breaks
Zapier links one help article to Clarity, about getting started, and records no limit specific to the app.
The traps come from the threshold and from general Zapier behavior. If a run fails and the cause is not among these, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
A threshold that is never crossed
The Zap fires only when the threshold is exceeded. Set it without checking the current value in your Clarity project, and it may sit far from anything the metric reaches.Past crossings are not replayed
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. A metric that went over earlier does not start it; that history stays in Clarity.A Zap that sets itself off
As a general precaution, a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burn through tasks.A sudden burst held back
When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back instead of sending them all through.
