What the OneLocal LocalReferrals Zapier integration does
It connects the referral program you run in OneLocal LocalReferrals to Zapier. Each new referral can start an automation in another tool, and your other tools can bring customers into the program as advocates, log referrals and send invitations, without anyone copying names and emails across.
Three results justify setting it up. Happy customers turned into advocates: a closed sale or a glowing review in another tool feeds Enroll Advocate or Invite Advocate. Referrals captured wherever they happen: a form on your site sends the advocate and the friend to Create Referral. Every referral followed up: New Referral starts a Zap that alerts the team or logs it in a sheet.
What it does not do: the only trigger is a polling trigger, so a new referral waits for Zapier's next check, every 15 minutes on the free plan. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot check whether a contact is already an advocate before acting. And nothing on Zapier updates or removes an advocate or a referral once created.
One detail saves time: Invite Advocate and Invite Friend can return the invite link instead of sending the message, so another tool can deliver it in your own words.

Zapier vocabulary, in plain words
Eight terms carry the page. Here they are once, in ordinary words.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap, here a new referral. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like inviting an advocate.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval. New Referral works this way.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens. LocalReferrals has none on Zapier, which matters for speed.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action, a filter or a search makes it one, and it needs a paid plan.
What a LocalReferrals Zap really costs
OneLocal LocalReferrals is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. Checking for new referrals never costs a task, however often Zapier looks.
- New Referral0 tasks, checked on the plan interval
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, Zaps of 2 steps
- LocalReferrals on ZapierNot premium, available on Free
Each action that succeeds counts as one task; a failed one does not. A Zap that creates a referral and then invites the friend uses two tasks per run. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps, one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes it multi-step, on a paid plan. Since New Referral polls, your plan also sets how soon it reacts.
Connect LocalReferrals to Zapier in 3 steps
- 01
Open your connections
Go to the Apps page of your Zapier account and click + Add connection. A connection is your LocalReferrals account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that works with it.
- 02
Pick LocalReferrals
Search OneLocal LocalReferrals in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A tab opens on the OneLocal side: sign in with the account that runs your referral program.
- 03
Grant access
Allow Zapier to use that account. On top of the account, you need read or write rights on any program data you do not own yourself and still want a Zap to touch.
Your first Zap: track every new referral
GoalWhen a new referral comes in, keep only the ones that meet your condition and add each of them as a row in a Google Sheets tracking file.
- 01
Set the trigger
Pick OneLocal LocalReferrals as the app that starts the Zap, New Referral as the event, then select your LocalReferrals connection.
- 02
Test with real referrals
Test the trigger. Zapier brings back the three most recent referrals of the connected account, so the next steps are mapped on a real one.
- 03
Add the filter
Add a Filter step and set the field to look at, the rule and the value. Pick a rule that matches the field type, or the filter never lets anything through.
- 04
Add the sheet step
Add Google Sheets with Create Spreadsheet Row and map the referral details into your columns. With a filter in it, the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back before going further. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on for every new referral.
The LocalReferrals trigger
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in OneLocal LocalReferrals. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Referral
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new referral is created.”
Starts your Zap each time a new referral is created in your LocalReferrals program, including those that another Zap records with Create Referral. It is the single way out of LocalReferrals, so every follow-up on a referral starts here: a thank-you to the advocate, a task for sales, a line in your reporting.
The 4 LocalReferrals actions
OneLocal LocalReferrals gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Enroll Advocate
ActionIn Zapier“Register a contact as an advocate in your referral program.”

Invite Advocate
ActionIn Zapier“Invite a contact to join your referral program as an advocate.”
The action Zapier puts forward for this app: it invites a contact to join your program as an advocate, by email or by text, and lets them accept.
Create Referral
ActionIn Zapier“Create a new referral.”
Records a new referral between an advocate and a friend, with both names and both emails, when the referral happened outside LocalReferrals.
Invite Friend
ActionIn Zapier“Invite a contact to join your referral program as a friend.”
Sends a contact an invitation to join your program as the friend of an existing advocate, by email or by text.
When a LocalReferrals Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article of its own to OneLocal LocalReferrals, and no limit specific to the app is documented. These cases come from Zapier's general rules and from the required fields of the actions.
Four cases to check before you publish. For the rest, keep Zapier troubleshooting at hand.
Past referrals stay out
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Referrals created before that never start it; moving that history is a separate job.A referral that creates referrals
New Referral followed by Create Referral writes into the place the trigger watches. The Zap starts itself again and again and burns through tasks.A bulk import gets held back
When the trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import of past referrals or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the runs back. The friend with no advocate
Invite Friend expects an Advocate Email that matches an existing contact. Send an address unknown to LocalReferrals and the invitation has no advocate to hang on.
