Overview

What the Mockingbyrd Zapier integration actually does

Mockingbyrd runs AI voice surveys to qualify and convert leads. The integration links it to Zapier, so the end of a call or a conversation can set off work in your other apps, and contacts from elsewhere can land in Mockingbyrd. Three operations, all on the free plan.

A finished call that lands in your records. Call Complete starts a Zap when a phone call of a chosen campaign is complete. Send what it returns to a spreadsheet or a CRM and nobody retypes call results by hand.

A follow-up that starts on its own. Conversation Complete starts a Zap when a conversation is complete. Hook a message to your team behind it, so the next step is not left waiting for someone to check Mockingbyrd.

New leads that reach Mockingbyrd. Create Contact adds a contact, with a phone number and a full name, to the lead source you pick. Put it behind a form or an ad tool and new leads enter Mockingbyrd without an export.

What Zapier does not do here. There is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an existing Mockingbyrd contact, and Create Contact is the only action: nothing updates or deletes a contact. The good news is on the trigger side: both are instant, so the plan interval never slows them down. If you also use Make, see our Mockingbyrd Make integration page.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Seven words come back on every Zapier screen. Here they are in plain English, once.

Zap
The automation you build: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap, like a finished call. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's quota is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What it really costs

Mockingbyrd is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. What you pay for is tasks.

  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • TriggersBoth instant, no task
  • Failed actionNot counted

The trigger never costs a task: a finished call that starts the Zap is free. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, Create Contact included, and an action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps only, so a filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is the one Zapier applies to polling triggers; it does not apply to the two Mockingbyrd triggers, which are both instant.

Connect

Connect Mockingbyrd to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Mockingbyrd account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick Mockingbyrd

Type Mockingbyrd in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens, and that is where the rest of the connection happens.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Mockingbyrd in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is then reused by every Mockingbyrd step in every Zap, so you only link the account once.

First Zap

Your first Zap: log the calls that matter in a spreadsheet

GoalA call of your campaign is complete: a filter keeps only the ones you care about, and each of them becomes a new row in your spreadsheet.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and pick the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose Mockingbyrd and the Call Complete event, select your connection, then the Campaign to watch. It must already exist in your account.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the account, so you map from a real call. Note which values come back, since the next steps depend on them.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add Filter and set the field to look at, the rule and the value. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so this Zap needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the spreadsheet row

Pick your spreadsheet app and its add-row action, then map each column to a value from the call. Test the step and check the row it created.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From then on each new completed call reaches it straight away; calls finished before that moment are not picked up.

Triggers

Mockingbyrd triggers

2 events start a Zap when something happens in Mockingbyrd, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Call Complete

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a phone call is complete”

Starts a Zap each time a phone call of the campaign you picked is complete, so whatever comes out of that call can travel on to your CRM, a sheet or a message without anyone exporting it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
you want every completed call recorded somewhere your team already looks.
Watch out
the Campaign field is required, so the campaign has to exist in your account before you set the trigger.
2

Conversation Complete

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a conversation is complete”

Fires when a conversation in the chosen campaign is complete, a separate event from Call Complete and a starting point for a follow-up handled by another app, such as an alert to a colleague.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a conversation has just been completed and you want the next human step to start at once.
Watch out
this trigger also needs a Campaign; test it next to Call Complete to see which of the two returns what your follow-up needs.
Actions

Mockingbyrd actions

Mockingbyrd gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Contact

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new contact for the selected Lead Source”

Adds a new contact to the lead source you select in Mockingbyrd, with a phone number and a full name taken from an earlier step of the Zap.

When to use it
leads collected by a form or an ad tool should reach Mockingbyrd without a manual import.
Watch out
Lead Source, Phone and Full Name are all required: make sure the earlier step really carries a phone number and a name, and check it at test time.
When it breaks

When the Mockingbyrd Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Mockingbyrd, so the risks below are the ones every Zap shares.

These limits come from Zapier itself and apply to every app, Mockingbyrd included. If one of them gets in your way, start with our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Nothing from before the Zap

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Calls and conversations already completed are not picked up; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution, a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burns through your task count.
  • Flood protection on big batches

When a trigger suddenly sends a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back.
  • Required fields left empty

Create Contact needs a Lead Source, a Phone and a Full Name. Check at test time that the earlier steps really fill all three before you publish.

FAQ

Mockingbyrd Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the Mockingbyrd Zapier integration free?
Yes. Mockingbyrd is not a premium app, so it runs on the free Zapier plan. That plan gives you 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that sends every completed call to a sheet fits within that. Add a filter to keep only some calls, or a second action, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Mockingbyrd Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. A completed call that starts the Zap is free; the row or the message that follows costs one task. If your Zap feeds new leads in with Create Contact, each contact created is one task. A Zap with three actions uses three times as much as a one-action Zap. An action that fails is not counted against your plan.
03Does Mockingbyrd work in real time on Zapier?
Yes, for both triggers. Call Complete and Conversation Complete are instant: the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The interval grid that slows down polling triggers on the free plan does not apply to them. That matters for lead follow-up, because the alert to your team leaves as soon as the call ends. In the editor, an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt.
04What do you need to connect Mockingbyrd to Zapier?
A Mockingbyrd account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. Open the Apps page of your Zapier account, click + Add connection, pick Mockingbyrd, then sign in in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. Before building, create at least one campaign and one lead source in Mockingbyrd: the triggers ask for a Campaign and Create Contact asks for a Lead Source.
05Why is the Campaign list empty when setting up a Mockingbyrd trigger?
Because Call Complete and Conversation Complete both require a Campaign, picked from the account you connected. If the account has no campaign yet, or if you connected a different Mockingbyrd account from the one holding your campaigns, there is nothing to choose. Create the campaign in Mockingbyrd first, then come back to the trigger, or check which account the connection uses. The same logic applies to the required Lead Source field on Create Contact, which also comes from your account.
06What if the Mockingbyrd operation you want is not on Zapier?
Then this integration cannot do it. The app page of Mockingbyrd on Zapier shows the current list, which today means 2 triggers, Call Complete and Conversation Complete, and 1 action, Create Contact, with no search. If you want to update a contact, for example, nothing in the editor does it. Look at whether another tool of your Zap can hold that information instead, or compare automation tools on that precise need.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Mockingbyrd?
Pick by criteria, not by a winner. Start with the operations: on Zapier you get the three listed on this page, and a Make integration also exists for Mockingbyrd. Then look at volume, since every successful action is a task on Zapier. Both Zapier triggers are instant, so speed of follow-up is not a reason to switch. Finally, consider who will maintain the Zap: the other tools ask for more technical comfort in exchange for more control.
