What the MyCard Zapier integration actually does
MyCard is a digital business card: people exchange contact details with you through it, and the app keeps track of those exchanges. The Zapier integration watches for new ones. Each time a contact comes in through the exchange button, Zapier can start an automation and hand that contact to the tools you already use. It reads; it writes nothing back into MyCard.
Everything rests on one trigger, New Connection. What it produces depends on the step you put after it. Three typical results:
A contact where your pipeline lives. The person who exchanged details with you shows up as a record in your CRM, instead of waiting in the card app until you remember to copy it. A shared list. Each exchange lands as a row in a spreadsheet the whole team can sort and read. A heads-up. A short message tells you or a colleague that a new contact came in, so the follow-up does not depend on someone opening MyCard.
What Zapier does not do for this app: it cannot create or edit a card, it cannot send anything through MyCard, and it cannot look a contact up inside it. There is no action and no search today. MyCard stays the place where cards are managed; Zapier only carries the new connections out, after each check it runs.
If you are still weighing the tool itself, see our Zapier review.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words you will see in the editor. Each one is explained once here, then used as is.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. Here, it is a new contact exchanged through MyCard.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something in another app for you.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action that your Zap completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is a count of those.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer: it asks the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeps only what it has not seen.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens. MyCard's only trigger is not one of these.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a MyCard Zap really costs
Watching for new exchanges is free. You pay, in tasks, for what the Zap does with them.
- The trigger and its checks0 tasks
- Each action that succeeds1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Premium appNo
The trigger never uses a task, and neither do Zapier's checks for new connections, however often they run. Each action that goes through counts as one task; a failed one is not counted. One new contact sent to two apps costs two tasks. MyCard is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan: 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each one capped at two steps. A filter or a second action turns it into a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. Because the trigger is polling, the grid below sets how long a new exchange can wait before Zapier sees it.
Connect MyCard to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
Go to the Apps page of your Zapier account and click + Add connection. You need an account on MyCard, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
- 02
Find MyCard
In the dialog, type the app's name, pick MyCard from the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab then opens so you can reach your MyCard account.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to MyCard in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved, and every Zap that uses MyCard can choose it from the list.
Your first Zap: every new exchange becomes a CRM contact
GoalEach person who swaps details with you through MyCard appears as a contact in your CRM, without copying anything by hand.
- 01
Create the Zap
Start a new Zap. Pick MyCard as the app that starts it and New Connection as the event, then choose your MyCard connection.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you map the next step on a real exchange rather than an empty template.
- 03
Add the CRM step
Add your CRM as the action and choose to create a contact. Place what the trigger test returned into the matching fields; check at the test which values come through.
- 04
Test the action
Run the action once and open your CRM to read the result. If a field arrives empty or in the wrong place, fix the mapping now rather than after publishing.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. It has two steps, so it fits the free plan, where Zapier checks MyCard for new connections every 15 minutes.
The MyCard trigger
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in MyCard. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Connection
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new connection is created through exchange button.”
Starts your Zap when someone shares their details with you through the exchange button of your card, so that new contact can move on to another tool.
When a MyCard Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to this app. The cases below are the general limits that apply to any Zap built on it.
Four situations worth knowing once the Zap is live. For the general method, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Earlier contacts are not replayed
The Zap only reacts to exchanges made after it is switched on. Contacts already in MyCard stay there; moving that backlog is a separate job.The same contact, once
Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen on a polling trigger, so the same connection does not start the Zap twice.A sudden batch is held back
If the trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.A Zap that sets itself off
As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and burn through your tasks.
