Overview

What the Moosend Zapier integration is for

The Moosend Zapier integration links your Moosend mailing lists to the rest of your tools, in both directions. A Zap (the automation you build on Zapier: one event that starts it, then the steps that follow) can react to what happens in Moosend, or push people and data into it, without anyone exporting a file.

Three results people build with it. Sign-ups that land on the right list: a form or a sheet starts the Zap, and Create Subscriber adds the person to a chosen mailing list, then Run Automation starts the Moosend sequence you prepared. A subscriber record that follows reality: Set Custom Field Value and Increment / Decrement Numeric Custom Field keep custom fields up to date from another app, a counter going up or down by a number or a percentage. Clean exits everywhere: New Unsubscriber tells your other tools when someone leaves, and Unsubscribe Member does the reverse when the request comes from elsewhere.

What Zapier does not do for Moosend: there is no search. A Zap cannot look up an existing subscriber before acting, so every action works from the email address it is given. There is also no action to send a campaign directly; the closest move is starting an automation you already set up in Moosend.

The same app also has a page on the other side of the fence: see our Moosend Make integration page, and our Make vs Zapier comparison.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, explained once

Seven terms carry the rest of this page. Each one gets one plain line.

Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. With the Zap switched on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you in an app.
Task
What Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. The number on your plan counts those, nothing else.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval and keeping only unseen ones.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself: it calls Zapier the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for a check.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Moosend Zap costs you

Zapier counts tasks. The Moosend trigger costs nothing; each Moosend action that succeeds costs one task, and an action that fails is not counted.

  • TriggerNever costs a task
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • MoosendNot a premium app

On the free plan you get 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger, one action. Creating a subscriber and then running an automation is two actions, so that Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan, and it uses two tasks per person. The same goes for adding a filter. Moosend is not a premium app: it is available from the free plan. The interval grid below concerns polling triggers only; the three Moosend triggers are instant, so it does not apply to them.

Connect

Connect your Moosend account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open Apps in Zapier

Go to Apps in your Zapier account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Moosend account linked once to Zapier, then reused by every Moosend step you build.

  2. 02

    Pick Moosend

Search for Moosend in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Moosend in the tab that opens, then grant Zapier access to the account. From then on, Moosend shows up as an app choice for both triggers and actions in the Zap editor.

First Zap

Your first Zap: start a Moosend automation for the right new subscribers

GoalWhen someone joins a Moosend mailing list, check a condition, then start a Moosend automation for that person.

  1. 01

Create the Zap and set the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose Moosend and the New Subscriber event, then select your Moosend connection. Test it: Zapier brings back the three most recent items so you map from a real subscriber.

  2. 02

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter and fill its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule and the value to compare with. A filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  3. 03

    Add Run Automation

Add Moosend with Run Automation. Choose the automation in Automation to Trigger and map the email field you find in the trigger test into Member Email; both are required.

  4. 04

    Test the action

Run the test of the action and read what came back before going further. The automation must already exist in Moosend for it to appear in the list.

  5. 05

    Publish

Publish the Zap to switch it on. The trigger is instant, so the editor shows a lightning bolt, and each new subscriber who passes the filter enters the automation and uses one task.

Triggers

Moosend triggers

3 events start a Zap when something happens in Moosend, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Subscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new subscriber is added to a mailing list.”

Starts the Zap whenever someone is added to a Moosend mailing list, and hands that new subscriber to the next step.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
copy each new subscriber into a spreadsheet, or post a short note in your team chat so everyone sees fresh sign-ups.
Watch out
as with any trigger, a Zap that writes into the very list this trigger watches can set itself off again, so check where your actions write.
2

New Unsubscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a subscriber is unsubscribed.”

Reacts when a subscriber is unsubscribed in Moosend. It is the signal to stop contacting that person anywhere else you keep their address.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
mark the person as unsubscribed in a spreadsheet or another tool, so nobody emails them from outside Moosend by mistake.
Watch out
the Zap only sees unsubscribes that happen after you publish it; people who left before are not sent through, so clean up older records by hand.
3

Updated Profile

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a subscriber’s profile has been updated.”

Fires when a subscriber's profile changes in Moosend. Use it to keep a copy of the profile in sync elsewhere.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
update the matching row in your spreadsheet so the record there stays as current as the one in Moosend.
Watch out
the fields it returns are not documented here; run the test and read what comes back before mapping anything into the next step.
Actions

Moosend actions

Moosend gives you 5 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Increment / Decrement Numeric Custom Field

Action

In Zapier“Increases or decreases a numeric custom field's value.”

Raises or lowers a numeric custom field instead of overwriting it, by an absolute number or by a percentage.

When to use it
keep a running count on a subscriber, adding 1 each time an event happens in another app.
Watch out
five fields are required, including the direction, the type (number or percentage) and the value; pick the type carefully, since adding 10 percent and adding 10 give very different results.
2

Set Custom Field Value

Action

In Zapier“Sets a custom field value.”

Writes a value into a custom field of a subscriber, identified by their email on a given list.

When to use it
store a detail that lives in another tool, such as a status or a preference, on the Moosend profile so you can segment on it.
Watch out
List and Member Email are required; check at test that the email really matches someone on that list.
3

Create Subscriber

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new subscriber in a specific mailing list.”

Adds a new person to a specific Moosend mailing list from data that started in another app.

When to use it
a form or a sheet sends you a new contact and you want them on a list without an export.
Watch out
List and Email are both required, so the list has to exist in Moosend before you build the step.
4

Run Automation

Action

In Zapier“Runs a Moosend automation for the provided email.”

Starts one of your Moosend automations for the email address you pass in.

When to use it
launch a welcome or follow-up sequence once a person is added from another tool.
Watch out
Automation to Trigger and Member Email are required, so the automation must already exist in Moosend; Zapier cannot build it for you.
5

Unsubscribe Member

Action

In Zapier“Unsubscribes a member from all or target mailing lists.”

Removes a member from all your mailing lists, or only from the ones you target.

When to use it
someone asks to stop receiving emails through another channel, and you want Moosend to respect it too.
Watch out
only Email is required; decide at setup whether the person leaves every list or just one, and confirm at test.
When it breaks

When a Moosend Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Moosend and records no rate limit for it. What breaks comes from how Zaps behave in general, plus the required fields of the actions.

  • Existing subscribers are ignored

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Subscribers already on your lists are not sent through; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that keeps restarting

A Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can set itself off again and again, and burns through the task count fast.
  • A bulk import gets held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back.
  • A required field has nothing to pick

List, Automation to Trigger and the email fields are required. If the list or automation does not exist yet in Moosend, create it first and test again.

FAQ

Moosend Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the Moosend Zapier integration free?
Yes. Moosend is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps. Each Zap there is capped at two steps: one trigger and one action. A form response that creates a Moosend subscriber fits. Adding Run Automation as a second action, or a filter before it, turns the Zap into a multi-step Zap, and multi-step Zaps need a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Moosend Zap use?
One per action that succeeds, each time the Zap runs. The trigger is free, whether it comes from Moosend or another app. A Zap that creates a subscriber uses one task per new person. A Zap that creates the subscriber and then runs an automation uses two, because every successful action is counted on its own. An action that fails is not counted. A few apps and actions take more than one task.
03Does Moosend work in real time with Zapier?
Yes, on the Moosend side. New Subscriber, New Unsubscriber and Updated Profile are all instant: Moosend tells Zapier the moment the event happens, and the Zap starts right away whatever your plan. The interval grid does not apply to them. If your Zap starts in another app and only writes to Moosend, the timing depends on that other app's trigger. A Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt in the editor.
04What do you need to connect Moosend to Zapier?
An account on Moosend, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. You open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Moosend, then sign in to it in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. Before building, create the mailing lists and automations you plan to use, since the actions ask for them in required fields. The connection is made once and reused by every Moosend step.
05Can Zapier send a Moosend campaign?
Not directly. None of the five Moosend actions sends a campaign. What you can do is prepare an automation in Moosend, then start it from a Zap with Run Automation, passing the person's email in Member Email. The automation itself, with its emails and timing, lives in Moosend. Zapier only decides who enters it and when, based on an event in another app or in Moosend. That also means the automation can be edited in Moosend without touching the Zap.
06What if the Moosend operation you want is missing?
Then the Moosend integration on Zapier does not offer it today. Check the Moosend page on Zapier, which shows the current list of triggers and actions. There is no search, but every action names the subscriber by email, so a Zap can still act on an existing person if the previous step carries the right address. For anything else, the work has to happen in Moosend itself or through another route.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Moosend?
Choose on criteria, not on a ranking. Look first at which operations each tool offers for Moosend: on Zapier, three instant triggers and five actions, with no search. Then compare how each tool counts usage against your volume of sign-ups. Finally, weigh which tool your team already uses, because the automation has to be maintained. On Zapier, the instant triggers mean no wait, even on the free plan. The interval grid of the plans does not apply to them.
