Overview

What the My Digital CMO Zapier integration actually does

My Digital CMO is a planner for marketing strategy, built so that your communications fit your customer personas. Zapier, the tool that links apps together, connects it to the rest of your stack: four events in your Marketing Portal can start an automation, and two actions create things in it from elsewhere.

A welcome that sends itself. With New Team Member as the starting point, each person who joins your team in My Digital CMO is announced in your team chat, without anyone remembering to post.

A log of every status change. Action Status Change fires when an action moves to a new status, either one status you pick or any of them. Each change can land as a row in a spreadsheet, so progress is visible outside the portal.

Actions created from somewhere else. Create Action adds an action to your Marketing Portal from a form or a list, with just a name. Create Business does the same for a business.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no search step, so a Zap cannot look up an existing action or business. Neither action updates or deletes anything, and both create items from a name alone. The good news is timing: all four triggers are instant, so the plan's checking interval never slows them down. If you are still weighing tools, see our Zapier review or the n8n vs Zapier comparison.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back across this page. Here they are in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it, here a new action or team member.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or creates something for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens, so nothing waits. All four My Digital CMO triggers work this way.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval. My Digital CMO has none.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it there otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What it really costs

My Digital CMO is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works from the free plan. What you pay for is tasks.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two steps per Zap
  • Triggers4 instant, never billed
  • Failed actionNot counted

A trigger never costs a task. Each action that succeeds counts as one, so a Zap with three actions uses three times as much as a Zap with one, and an action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps. A filter or a second action makes it multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is Zapier's general one for polling triggers: it does not apply to the four instant triggers of My Digital CMO.

Connect

Connect My Digital CMO to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a My Digital CMO account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick My Digital CMO

Type My Digital CMO in the search box of the dialog that appears, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can sign in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to My Digital CMO in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved once and reused by every step that touches My Digital CMO.

First Zap

Your first Zap: chosen status changes go to your team chat

GoalEach time an action changes status in My Digital CMO, a filter checks it, and only the ones that pass are posted to your team chat.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick My Digital CMO as the app that starts it, with Action Status Change as the event. Choose the connection you added earlier.

  2. 02

    Set the trigger

Pick one status to watch, or leave it blank to catch every change. Then test the trigger so the rest of the Zap is built on a real status change.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon and add Filter. Set the field to look at, the rule and the value to compare with. This filter makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the message

Add your chat tool as the action and map the fields from the trigger into the message. Test this step once and read what came back before going further.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. The trigger is instant, so My Digital CMO tells Zapier about each new change; earlier ones are not picked up.

Triggers

My Digital CMO triggers on Zapier

4 events start a Zap when something happens in My Digital CMO, and 4 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Action Status Change

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Receive notifications when the status of an action changes. You can specify a particular status to monitor or leave it blank to be notified for all changes.”

Starts a Zap when an action in your Marketing Portal moves to another status. You can name one status to watch, or leave the setting blank and catch every change.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when the people who follow progress never open My Digital CMO and should hear about a status change in a tool they already read.
Watch out
left blank, every change starts the Zap, and each action that follows costs a task each time.
2

New Assigned Event

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new calendar event is assigned to you.”

Fires when a new calendar event in My Digital CMO is assigned to you.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when you plan your days in another calendar or task tool and want each assigned event copied there without retyping it.
Watch out
test the trigger first and read the fields it brings back, since that is the only way to see what an event holds before mapping it.
3

New Action Created

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new action is created”

Reacts to each new action added in My Digital CMO. Everything after it in the Zap can reuse what the test shows for that action.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when new marketing actions should also show up in a shared spreadsheet or in the task list your team works from.
Watch out
as a general precaution, a Zap that writes into the very place its trigger watches can set itself off again and again, so test the full Zap before you publish.
4

New Team Member

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new user joins your team”

Goes off each time a new user joins your team in My Digital CMO. It is the natural starting point for anything that should happen once per newcomer.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when each arrival should be announced in your team chat or added to a contact list, without anyone having to remember it.
Watch out
people already on the team when you publish are not picked up; the Zap only sees users who join afterwards.
Actions

My Digital CMO actions on Zapier

My Digital CMO gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Action

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new Action in your Marketing Portal”

Adds a new action to your Marketing Portal. The one required field is Action Name, so a single value from an earlier step is enough to create it.

When to use it
when ideas or requests arrive through a form or a list and each one should become an action in My Digital CMO.
Watch out
map Action Name to a field that is always filled, and check at the test what the step returns.
2

Create Business

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new Business in your Marketing Portal.”

Creates a new business in your Marketing Portal from just its name, through the required Business Name field.

When to use it
when a new business you work on is first recorded in another tool, such as a spreadsheet or a sign-up form, and should exist in My Digital CMO too.
Watch out
there is no search step, so the Zap cannot check whether a business with that name already exists before creating it.
When it breaks

When the My Digital CMO Zap breaks

Zapier publishes no help article and no specific limit for My Digital CMO. What can go wrong comes from how every Zap behaves.

The three cases below are the ones to check first. When a run fails anyway, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.

  • Older items never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Actions, events and team members that existed before publishing are not picked up; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can set itself off again and again, and burn through the task count fast.
  • A big batch arrives at once

After a bulk import or a migration, a trigger that suddenly returns a huge batch can be held back by Zapier's flood protection.

FAQ

My Digital CMO Zapier integration: questions people ask

01Is the My Digital CMO Zapier integration free?
Yes, you can use it on Zapier's free plan, because My Digital CMO is not a premium app. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps, with one limit nobody mentions up front: each Zap has two steps, one trigger and one action. A New Team Member that posts a chat message fits. A status change that is filtered first, or that feeds two tools at once, becomes a multi-step Zap and needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a My Digital CMO Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, nothing for the trigger. My Digital CMO telling Zapier about a new action, event or team member costs nothing on its own. A Zap that creates a business uses one task per business created. A Zap with three actions uses three tasks each time it runs all the way through. An action that does not go through is not counted against your plan; only an action that completes enters the count.
03Is My Digital CMO on Zapier real time?
Yes, for all four triggers. Action Status Change, New Assigned Event, New Action Created and New Team Member are instant triggers: the app tells Zapier the moment something happens, and the Zap starts right away whatever your plan. The interval grid of 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional and 1 on Team and Enterprise applies to polling triggers, so it does not apply to them. The editor shows a lightning bolt on these triggers.
04What does it take to connect My Digital CMO to Zapier?
A My Digital CMO account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. The connection itself takes three moves: Apps, then + Add connection, pick My Digital CMO, sign in to it in the new tab and grant Zapier access. Once saved, the same connection serves every Zap and every step that uses My Digital CMO, so you only do this once per account.
05Can Action Status Change watch only one status?
Yes, going by the trigger's own description: you can name a particular status to monitor, or leave that setting blank to hear about every status change. Nothing more is documented. Which changes a named status lets through is something to check at the test, on a real action of your Marketing Portal, before you publish. If you need a finer condition than a single status, a filter after the trigger can hold the Zap back, but that makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.
06What if the My Digital CMO operation you want is not there?
Then Zapier cannot do it with My Digital CMO today. The integration has four instant triggers and two actions that create an action or a business, with no search step and nothing that updates or deletes. Open the My Digital CMO page on Zapier to see the current list of operations. Sometimes the missing piece can come from another app in the same Zap, as long as My Digital CMO only has to do one of its six operations.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for My Digital CMO?
It depends on criteria, not on a winner. Start with the operations: check that the tool you pick covers the My Digital CMO events and actions your process needs, since this page only describes what Zapier offers. Then look at billing: Zapier counts a task per successful action, and filters push you onto a paid plan. Timing is not a criterion on Zapier for this app, since all four triggers are instant.
