Overview

What the 4Degrees Zapier integration actually does

The integration links your 4Degrees CRM to Zapier, a tool that runs automations between apps without code. A Zap is one of those automations: a trigger (the event in 4Degrees that starts it) followed by one or more actions (the steps that write or move something for you). On 4Degrees, deals, contacts and reminders are what moves.

Three results people usually build first. A follow-up that never gets forgotten: New Deal starts the Zap and Create Reminder attaches a nudge to that deal. A contact base that fills itself: a signup in another tool feeds Create Contact, and later Create Contact Interaction logs each exchange against that email. And an outbound flow: New Exported Contact hands the people you export from 4Degrees to whatever app comes next.

Now the part the app page skips. Zapier can't make any 4Degrees trigger instant: all five are polling triggers, so nothing lands the second it happens. There is no search step either, which means a Zap can't look up an existing contact or deal before touching it. You have to know its email or its name. No action deletes anything. And a Zap never catches up on the deals that existed before you switched it on.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words, and the rest of the page reads easily. Each one is used exactly as defined here.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every single time that trigger event occurs.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier sits and waits for that event to show up.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that creates, writes, sends or moves something on your behalf in an app.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action that completed successfully, and your plan counts nothing else.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer. It asks the app for recent items at a set interval and keeps only what it has not seen.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports by itself the moment the event happens. 4Degrees has none of these on Zapier today.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets a condition you choose, and halts it otherwise.
Connection
Your 4Degrees account linked to Zapier one time, then reused by every step in every Zap that touches 4Degrees.
Cost

What it really costs to run

The trigger never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking 4Degrees for new data, however often it looks. Only an action that goes through is billed. One that fails costs nothing.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Zap size on the free planTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, 4Degrees works on the free plan
  • What gets billedEach action that succeeds

In a Zap with several actions, each successful one counts on its own: three actions eat three times what one does. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two steps per Zap, one trigger and one action. Add a second action or a filter and it becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. 4Degrees itself is not a premium app, so the free plan accepts it and you can test a full Zap without paying.

Connect

Connect 4Degrees to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your Zapier apps

In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens: type 4Degrees in its search box and pick the app from the results.

  2. 02

    Sign in to 4Degrees

Click Add connection. A new tab opens on 4Degrees: sign in with the 4Degrees account whose deals, contacts and reminders the Zaps should read and write.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to use that account. You need read or write rights on any list or record you don't own yourself but want a Zap to touch. The connection is then saved and reused everywhere.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a reminder for every new deal

GoalEach new deal on a chosen list gets a reminder, but only when it belongs to a company you care about.

  1. 01

    Build the trigger

Create a Zap, pick 4Degrees as the app that starts it and New Deal as the event. Choose your connection, then fill List Name with the list your team works from.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent deals of that list, so you can pick a real one and map its fields in the steps that follow.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add a Filter and set the field, the rule and the value. Remember: this third step makes it a multi-step Zap, so a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the action

Pick Create Reminder. Map the deal name into Target Name and write the Note, the text your colleague will read when the reminder comes up.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the action once and check the reminder in 4Degrees. When it looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only deals created from then on will count.

Triggers

The 5 4Degrees triggers

5 events start a Zap when something happens in 4Degrees. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

Deal Updated

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a deal is updated. WARNING: This will effectively send all of your deals to zapier.”

Fires when someone changes a deal on the list you point it at, so a renamed deal or an edited amount can be copied elsewhere or announced to the team.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
keeping a shared pipeline report or a sales channel in step with what your dealmakers edit during the day.
Watch out
4Degrees warns that this trigger effectively pushes all your deals to Zapier, and List Name expects the list id taken from the URL, so test on a small list and watch your task count.
2

Contact Updated

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a contact is updated. WARNING: This will effectively send all of your contacts to zapier.”

Starts a Zap each time a contact record changes in 4Degrees, whether that is a new title, a new company or a corrected email address.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
mirroring contact changes into a mailing tool or a spreadsheet so nobody keeps writing to an outdated address.
Watch out
like Deal Updated, it effectively sends every contact to Zapier. Pair it with Edit Contact in the same Zap and each edit sets the Zap off again, in a loop that burns tasks.
3

New Exported Contact

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a contact is exported to Zapier.”

Reacts when you deliberately export a contact from 4Degrees to Zapier. Only the people you choose to send move on, which keeps the flow small and intentional.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
handing a hand-picked group of investors or founders to an email sequence or an onboarding checklist, one export at a time.
Watch out
this is the calmer alternative to Contact Updated when you don't want your whole base flowing through Zapier.
4

New Deal

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new deal is created. The Deal is exported to zapier.”

Picks up each deal freshly added to a given list in 4Degrees and passes it to the next steps of the Zap, ready to be copied, announced or turned into a task for someone.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
opening a project folder, a channel message or a reminder whenever a new opportunity enters the pipeline.
Watch out
List Name is required, so one Zap watches one list; a second pipeline means a second Zap.
5

New Reminder

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when a new reminder is created. The reminder is exported to Zapier.”

Catches every reminder created in 4Degrees and exports it to Zapier, so a nudge set in the CRM can also live in the calendar or the to-do app your team actually opens.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
turning CRM reminders into calendar blocks or project tasks for people who rarely open the CRM itself.
Watch out
don't feed this trigger into Create Reminder, or every reminder the Zap writes will start it again.
Actions

The 7 4Degrees actions

4Degrees gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Contact

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new contact.”

Adds a person to your 4Degrees base from whatever started the Zap, a form entry, a signup or a row in a sheet.

When to use it
event attendees or inbound leads who should land in the CRM without anyone retyping them.
Watch out
both Full Name and Email are required, so an entry missing either one makes the step fail.
2

Create Contact Interaction

Action

In Zapier“Creates a Contact Interaction”

Logs an exchange against an existing contact, so the relationship history in 4Degrees reflects a meeting, a call or a message that happened in another tool.

When to use it
recording each booked meeting from your scheduling app on the right person.
Watch out
the contact is found by Contact Email only, so the address must match the one stored in 4Degrees.
3

Create Deal

Action

In Zapier“Creates a deal on a given list.”

Opens a new deal on the list you name, with the company it concerns, straight from an inbound request or a qualified lead elsewhere.

When to use it
a referral form that should become a pipeline entry, not an email someone forgets to forward.
Watch out
Deal List and Company Name are both required. Don't run it in a Zap started by New Deal on that same list, or it will loop.
4

Create Deal Note

Action

In Zapier“Creates a note on an existing deal in 4degrees”

Writes a note onto a deal that already exists in 4Degrees, which keeps context from calls, emails or documents next to the opportunity itself.

When to use it
pasting the summary of a call recording or a signed document onto the matching deal.
Watch out
Deal Name and Note text are required, and the deal is designated by its name, so keep names unique across lists.
5

Create Reminder

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new reminder.”

Schedules a follow-up nudge in 4Degrees on a company, a deal or a contact, with a note explaining why it matters.

When to use it
making sure each new deal or each incoming introduction gets a next step assigned.
Watch out
Target Name takes a company or deal name, but for a contact it takes the email address. Note is required too.
6

Edit Contact

Action

In Zapier“Edit an existing contact using either email or contact id”

Updates a contact that already exists, for instance a new job title picked up from a form, without creating a duplicate record.

When to use it
refreshing details when someone updates their profile in another tool you run.
Watch out
Contact Email is required, and with no search step on this app the Zap must already carry that address from an earlier step.
7

Edit Deal

Action

In Zapier“Edits a an existing deal.”

Changes a deal that is already in your pipeline, keeping its fields in line with what happens in your other tools.

When to use it
updating a deal once a contract is signed or a payment shows up elsewhere.
Watch out
Deal Name and Deal List are both required. Fed by Deal Updated on the same list, every edit will retrigger the Zap.
When it breaks

When a 4Degrees Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article to 4Degrees, so the traps below are the general ones, applied to this CRM.

Most breakdowns come from timing, loops and volume rather than from 4Degrees itself. If a Zap still misbehaves after these checks, our Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the diagnosis.

  • Old deals never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Deals and contacts already in 4Degrees are ignored; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps restarting itself

Writing where the trigger watches, like Edit Deal after Deal Updated on the same list, sets the Zap off again and again and drains your tasks.
  • A bulk import is held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can pause it before anything runs.
  • Nothing arrives right away

All five triggers are polling triggers. Zapier remembers what it has already seen, so the same deal never starts the Zap twice, but it waits for the next check.

FAQ

4Degrees and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the 4Degrees Zapier integration free?
Yes, it runs on the free plan, because Zapier does not list 4Degrees as a premium app. That free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you like. The catch is size: each Zap is limited to two steps, one trigger and one action. The moment you add a filter or a second action, for example a reminder plus a deal note, the Zap becomes multi-step and asks for a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a 4Degrees Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing else. The trigger is free, and Zapier checking 4Degrees for new deals or contacts costs nothing however often it looks. An action that fails is not counted. So a Zap that turns each new deal into a reminder spends one task per deal, while a Zap that creates a reminder and a deal note spends two per deal. Loops are the real risk: a Zap that retriggers itself burns tasks fast.
03Does 4Degrees send data to Zapier in real time?
No. All five 4Degrees triggers are polling triggers: Zapier asks 4Degrees for new items at a fixed interval instead of being told the moment they appear. On the free plan that check runs every 15 minutes, on Professional every 2, on Team and Enterprise every minute. The type comes from the app itself and can't be switched from the editor. Paid plans also let you run a check by hand while you build.
04What does it take to connect 4Degrees to Zapier?
A 4Degrees account you can sign in to, plus read or write access to any list or record you don't own but want a Zap to touch. The link is made once, from the Apps page of Zapier, and then every Zap reuses it. Keep the id of your deal list at hand as well: Deal Updated asks for it in its List Name field, and you find it in the 4Degrees URL.
05Why does Deal Updated send so much data to Zapier?
Because 4Degrees itself warns that Deal Updated effectively sends all your deals to Zapier, and Contact Updated does the same with contacts. On a large list that means many items to process and, as soon as an action follows, many tasks. Start on a small list, test, and watch the count. When only a chosen few should move on, New Exported Contact is the calmer option, since it only reacts to contacts you export on purpose.
06What if the operation needed is not in the list?
Then Zapier can't do it with the 4Degrees app as it stands: the 12 visible operations are the full menu, and there is no search step and no delete action among them. Sometimes the job can be rebuilt from what exists, for example by carrying a contact's email from the trigger into Edit Contact. Otherwise the gap has to be covered by another tool, or flagged to the 4Degrees team.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for 4Degrees?
It depends on criteria rather than on a winner. Zapier is the quickest to start: 12 ready operations, a free plan that accepts 4Degrees, and a connection made once from the Apps page. The questions to ask are how many actions each run needs, since every successful action is a task, whether you need anything faster than a polling interval, and whether you would rather host the automation yourself. Answer those three and the choice usually follows.
