Overview

What the Nextdoor Zapier integration is good for

Nextdoor is a neighborhood social network that also sells ads. Its Zapier integration does one thing: when a person submits a lead through one of your Nextdoor ads, it starts a Zap, so that lead can reach your CRM, your inbox or your sheets without being downloaded by hand.

Leads in your CRM, not in an export. With New Lead as the trigger and your CRM as the action, each person who answers an ad becomes a contact where your sales follow-up already happens.

A team that hears about a lead straight away. The same trigger can feed a message to your team chat, so a new lead is seen without anyone opening Nextdoor.

A running list of every ad response. Pointed at a spreadsheet, the trigger keeps a row per lead, so the whole team can read the same list.

What Zapier does not do with Nextdoor: there is no action and no search step. A Zap cannot create an ad, change a campaign or look a lead up in Nextdoor; it can only react to new leads and pass them on to the apps where your follow-up really happens, which is where every task of the Zap is spent. Leads submitted before the Zap is on are not picked up. If you are still weighing tools, see our Make vs Zapier comparison and our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven terms in plain words. The rest of the page uses them without explaining them again.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. For Nextdoor, it is a new lead. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or creates something in another app for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
Zapier checks a polling trigger on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the data that arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter turns it into one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What Nextdoor on Zapier really costs

Zapier does not reserve Nextdoor for paid plans: it works from the free plan. You pay in tasks, and the Nextdoor trigger itself costs none.

  • Reserved for paid plansNo, works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • New Lead triggerCosts no task
  • Failed actionNot counted

Since Nextdoor only brings a trigger, every task you spend goes to the actions of your other apps. Each action that succeeds counts once, so sending a lead to a CRM and to a chat costs two tasks per lead. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is for polling triggers; New Lead is instant, so it does not apply here.

Connect

Connect your Nextdoor account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Open Apps in Zapier

Go to Apps in your Zapier account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Nextdoor account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that listens to Nextdoor.

  2. 02

    Choose Nextdoor

Search Nextdoor in the dialog, pick it and click Add connection. You need an account on Nextdoor, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

A tab opens on Nextdoor. Sign in with the account Zapier should use, then grant Zapier access. The connection is now available in the trigger step of any Zap.

First Zap

Your first Zap: Nextdoor leads straight into your CRM

GoalEach lead from your Nextdoor ads becomes a contact in your CRM, and a second action can alert your team in chat.

  1. 01

    Start on New Lead

Create a Zap, pick Nextdoor as the trigger app and New Lead as the event, then choose the Nextdoor connection you added.

  2. 02

    Fill in the two IDs

Enter your Advertiser ID, also found in the Business Settings of Nextdoor Ads Manager, and the Creative IDs the trigger asks for. Then test the trigger and read what a lead carries.

  3. 03

    Add your CRM

Add your CRM as the action, pick its create-contact event and map the lead details you saw at test into its fields. Test the action and open the contact.

  4. 04

    Choose about the chat alert

The chat card is a second action, which makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. On the free plan, keep the CRM step and leave the alert out.

  5. 05

    Publish

Publish the Zap to switch it on. From then on, each new lead submitted after publishing starts it. For guided practice, see our Zapier training.

Triggers

The Nextdoor trigger on Zapier

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Nextdoor, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Lead

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new lead is submitted.”

Starts your Zap each time someone submits a lead through your Nextdoor ads, and passes that lead to the steps that follow in your other apps.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
when the people who answer your ads should land in your CRM, your mailing tool or a shared sheet without anyone exporting them.
Watch out
the trigger requires your Advertiser ID, also shown in the Business Settings of Nextdoor Ads Manager, and the Creative IDs to follow. Test it with a real lead to see which details arrive before you map them, since only leads submitted after the Zap is published start it.
When it breaks

When a Nextdoor Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Nextdoor, so the cases below are the general limits that apply to any Zap built on its lead trigger.

Check them before you publish. If a Zap still behaves oddly, our Zapier troubleshooting page is the next stop.

  • Older leads are never picked up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Leads submitted before that stay in Nextdoor; moving them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can set itself off again and again and burn through tasks.
  • A sudden wave of leads

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the run back.
  • Missing Advertiser or Creative IDs

New Lead requires both an Advertiser ID and Creative IDs. Fill them in from Nextdoor Ads Manager and test the trigger before you publish.

FAQ

Nextdoor Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Nextdoor Zapier integration free?
Yes. Zapier does not reserve Nextdoor for paid plans, so you can start on the free plan. It gives 100 tasks a month and as many Zaps as you like, as long as each one has two steps: one trigger and one action. A Zap that sends each Nextdoor lead to your CRM fits that limit. Add a filter, or a second action such as a chat alert, and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Nextdoor Zap use?
The Nextdoor trigger uses none. Tasks come from the actions in your other apps: one task for each action that succeeds. A lead sent to your CRM costs one task; the same lead sent to the CRM and to a chat costs two. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. Waiting for new leads costs nothing either. If your ads bring in many leads, watch the count, because the 100 tasks of the free plan can run out.
03Does the Nextdoor lead trigger fire in real time?
Yes. New Lead is an instant trigger: Nextdoor tells Zapier the moment a lead is submitted, and the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The polling interval of the plans does not apply to it. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. On the free plan this matters most, since its 15-minute interval never delays New Lead. A sudden huge batch can still be held back by Zapier's flood protection.
04What does it take to connect Nextdoor to Zapier?
An account on Nextdoor, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. From the Apps page of your Zapier account, click + Add connection, search for Nextdoor, click Add connection, sign in to Nextdoor in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. Keep your Advertiser ID and the Creative IDs at hand too, because the New Lead trigger asks for both.
05Where is the Advertiser ID for the Nextdoor trigger?
In the Business Settings of your Nextdoor Ads Manager account. The New Lead trigger requires it, together with the Creative IDs of the ads you want to follow; both fields are mandatory. Enter them in the trigger step, then run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent leads of the connected account, so you can confirm the trigger is pointed at the right ads before you map anything into your CRM or sheet.
06What if the Nextdoor operation you want is not on Zapier?
Then this integration cannot do it today. Open the Nextdoor page on Zapier: it shows the current list of triggers and actions, and that list is the reference. On this page there is one trigger, New Lead, and no action or search. So a Zap cannot create ads, edit campaigns or look anything up in Nextdoor. Anything beyond receiving new leads is outside what this integration covers today, so check that list before you plan the rest of the Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Nextdoor?
Pick on criteria, not on a ranking. On Zapier, Nextdoor brings one instant lead trigger, and a two-step Zap from lead to CRM runs on the free plan with 100 tasks a month. Three questions settle it: how many steps you need after the lead, since filters and extra actions require a paid plan on Zapier; how many leads a month you expect, since each successful action is billed; and whether you only need to receive leads. Run the same questions past Make and n8n.
