Overview

What the Paced Email Zapier integration is for

The Paced Email Zapier integration connects Paced Email, the service that holds your incoming mail on custom aliases and hands it back as daily, weekly or monthly digests, to the rest of your tools. A digest goes out or an inbox is created, Zapier hears about it and runs the steps you set.

Three results worth building. A digest that reaches more than one person: Digest Created starts a Zap that uses Send an Email to forward a heads-up to a colleague. Aliases created on demand: a new client in your CRM triggers Create Inbox Alias, so every project gets its own paced address with the rhythm you pick. An inventory that keeps itself: Inbox Created logs every new alias to a sheet, wherever it was made.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no search, so a Zap cannot look up an existing alias. There is no action to change or delete an alias, and none to read the messages waiting in a digest. A Zap also ignores the past; aliases and digests that existed before you switched it on never come through.

Both triggers are instant, which means the free plan reacts as fast as any paid one. If you prefer another tool, the same app has a Paced Email Make integration page, and the Make vs Zapier comparison sits next to it.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words come back all over this page. Here they are, once, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for exactly that event.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something on your behalf in an app.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. Each action your Zap completes successfully is one task, and your plan is a count of those.
Instant vs polling
An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a fixed timer.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it there otherwise.
Connection
Your Paced Email account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that touches Paced Email.
Cost

What a Paced Email Zap really costs

Triggers are free. Every action that succeeds costs one task, and an action that fails is not counted.

  • Trigger0 task
  • Successful action1 task each
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, 2-step Zaps
  • Paced Email triggers2 instant, 0 polling

A Zap with three actions therefore spends three times what a one-action Zap does. The free plan comes with 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap turns multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Paced Email is not a premium app, so the free plan is enough to start. The polling grid below never applies here, because both Paced Email triggers are instant.

Connect

Connect Paced Email to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A dialog with a search box appears. All you need beforehand is a Paced Email account.

  2. 02

    Pick Paced Email

Type Paced Email in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new tab opens; sign in there with the Paced Email account your Zaps should use.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier into the account. If the aliases you want to send from are not yours, make sure this login can still write to them, or Send an Email will have nothing to pick.

First Zap

Your first Paced Email Zap: forward a heads-up when a digest goes out

GoalEach time Paced Email sends a digest, and only when it matches your condition, a short email goes to a colleague.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Start a Zap, choose Paced Email as the app and Digest Created as the event, then your connection. With a filter in the middle, this Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent digests of your account, so you set up the rest on a real digest rather than a blank.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, then fill the three boxes: the field to check, the rule, the value. Pick a text rule for text and a number rule for numbers.

  4. 04

    Add Send an Email

Add a Paced Email action, Send an Email. Choose the alias to send from, fill To with your colleague's address and write a short Body.

  5. 05

    Test, then Publish

Test the action and check the email arrived. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on. Each digest that passes the filter costs one task.

Triggers

The 2 Paced Email triggers

2 events start a Zap when something happens in Paced Email, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Digest Created

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new digest is sent.”

Starts your Zap when Paced Email sends out a new digest, the bundle of messages an alias has been holding back. The trigger follows the digest, not the individual emails inside it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
telling a teammate that the weekly batch of supplier newsletters has landed, so they know when to read it.
Watch out
the rhythm comes from the alias Periodicity; a monthly alias fires this trigger far less often than a daily one.
2

Inbox Created

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new inbox is created.”

Reacts each time a new inbox, meaning a new alias, appears in your Paced Email account, whether you made it by hand or through another Zap.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
keeping a shared list of every alias in use, so nobody signs up to a service with an address the team has forgotten.
Watch out
a Zap that runs Create Inbox Alias will set this trigger off as well; never chain the two in the same loop.
Actions

The 2 Paced Email actions

Paced Email gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Inbox Alias

Action

In Zapier“Generates a new inbox alias”

Makes a brand new alias in Paced Email, ready to collect mail and release it as a digest.

When to use it
every new project or client in another tool should get its own paced address without anyone opening Paced Email.
Watch out
two fields are required. Periodicity sets how often the alias delivers its digest; Delivery sets the format of that digest email.
2

Send an Email

Action

In Zapier“Sends an email from your chosen email alias”

Sends a message from one of your Paced Email aliases, so the reply goes back to an address you already pace.

When to use it
a short notification to a colleague or a supplier, from an alias rather than from your personal mailbox.
Watch out
To and Body are required. Sending to one of your own aliases puts the message in a future digest, and could restart a Zap built on Digest Created.
When it breaks

When a Paced Email Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Paced Email, and the app documents no limit of its own. What goes wrong is what goes wrong on any Zap, applied to aliases and digests.

Four cases to know before you publish. For anything else, the Zapier troubleshooting page covers the usual causes.

  • Old aliases and digests never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Aliases that already existed and digests already sent are not picked up; listing those is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps restarting itself

Inbox Created feeding Create Inbox Alias, or Send an Email aimed at your own alias with a Digest Created Zap behind it: each run feeds the next and eats tasks fast.
  • A burst of new aliases stalls

Create many aliases at once through another Zap, and Inbox Created returns a large batch in one go. Zapier's flood protection can hold it back.
  • The filter never lets anything through

Filter rules are typed: a text rule only works on text, a number rule only on numbers. Picking the wrong type is the usual reason a filter blocks every digest.

FAQ

Paced Email Zapier integration: your questions

01Is the Paced Email Zapier integration free?
Yes. Paced Email is not a premium app, so it works on Zapier's free plan. That plan includes 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is capped at two steps, one trigger and one action. Adding a filter or a second action turns it into a multi-step Zap, which requires a paid plan. A plain pairing such as Digest Created followed by Send an Email stays within the free limits.
02How many tasks does a Paced Email Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and none for the trigger. A Zap that sends one email whenever a digest goes out costs one task per digest. A failed action is not counted. Your monthly usage therefore depends on how many digests your aliases produce, which follows the Periodicity you chose for each one: an alias set to daily generates more runs than one set to monthly. Keep Zaps to one action where you can.
03Does Paced Email trigger Zaps in real time?
Yes, both triggers are instant. Paced Email tells Zapier itself when a digest is sent or an inbox is created, and the Zap starts right away on every plan, the free one included. The polling intervals in the Zapier plan grid do not apply. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. Keep in mind that the digest itself only goes out on its schedule.
04What does it take to connect Paced Email to Zapier?
A Paced Email account and a Zapier account. Open the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, search for Paced Email, click Add connection, then sign in to Paced Email in the new tab and grant access. The account you connect should own the aliases you plan to send from, or have write access to them. Otherwise Send an Email has no alias to offer, and Create Inbox Alias still asks for a Periodicity and a Delivery format.
05Why does Digest Created not fire when an email reaches the alias?
Because it follows digests, not incoming emails. Paced Email holds the messages sent to an alias and releases them together as a digest, on the rhythm set in that alias Periodicity. Digest Created starts the Zap when that digest is sent, so an email that just arrived waits for the next one. If you need a reaction per message, this integration does not offer a trigger for it, and a shorter Periodicity is the closest setting.
06What if the Paced Email operation you want is not on Zapier?
Then this integration cannot do it. Zapier offers 2 triggers and 2 actions for Paced Email, with no search: nothing to edit or delete an alias, nothing to read the content of a digest. The practical route is to build around what exists, for example Inbox Created feeding a task in your project tool where a person finishes the job by hand. Check the actions on this page before you design the Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Paced Email?
Choose on criteria, not on a ranking. On Zapier, Paced Email offers 2 instant triggers and 2 actions and runs on the free plan. The useful questions: do those four operations cover your scenario, how many steps does your Zap need, since anything past two requires a paid plan, and how many tasks will your digests generate each month. Compare those answers with what the other tools offer for the same app.
