Overview

What the Pillar Zapier integration gets you

Pillar is a store and media kit for creators and talent agencies. Plugging it into Zapier means the people who grab your free download or buy a digital product no longer stay stuck inside Pillar: they reach your other tools on their own, and contacts gathered elsewhere can land in your Pillar customer list too.

Three results worth setting up, each resting on a real operation:

A mailing list that fills itself. Create Customer fires when someone becomes a customer through a lead magnet or a digital purchase, and the next step adds them to the newsletter tool you already use.

Sales tracked where your team looks. The same trigger can write each new buyer into a shared sheet or a CRM, so an agency managing several creators sees who bought what without logging into each store.

One customer list, wherever people sign up. Create Pillar Customer adds a person to your Pillar customers from a form, an event tool or a spreadsheet, so your list in Pillar is not limited to what the store collected.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no search step, so a Zap (the word is explained below) cannot check whether a customer already exists before adding them. There is no action to update or remove a customer either, and nothing about products, orders or the media kit itself is exposed.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, explained plainly

Zapier has a vocabulary of its own. One line per word, so nothing below needs guessing.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap, like a new customer in your Pillar store. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or adds something for you, in Pillar or in another app.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully; your plan allowance counts those.
Instant vs polling trigger
Instant: the app tells Zapier the moment the event happens. Polling: Zapier checks on a timer. The Pillar trigger is instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and quietly stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your Pillar account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that touches Pillar.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action is enough to make one, and it needs a paid plan.
Cost

What Pillar on Zapier really costs

Pillar is not a premium app, so it works on Zapier's free plan. You pay in tasks, and only successful actions spend them.

  • Trigger firing0 tasks
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps per Zap
  • Premium appNo, Pillar works on the free plan

A new customer firing the Create Customer trigger costs nothing. The action that follows, whether it adds a subscriber elsewhere or runs Create Pillar Customer, counts as one task when it goes through; a failed attempt is not charged. The free plan stops at two steps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Because the trigger is instant, the interval grid below never delays it, whatever plan you are on.

Connect

Connect your Pillar account to Zapier

  1. 01

    Go to the Apps page

In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Pillar account that already exists; Zapier links it, it does not create one for you.

  2. 02

    Select Pillar

Search for Pillar in the dialog, pick it and click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Pillar sign-in page, where you use your usual Pillar login.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Pillar in that tab and give Zapier access to the account. If you work on a store you do not own, make sure your login can read and write its customers first.

First Zap

Build your first Pillar Zap

GoalSend new Pillar customers to your newsletter, but only the ones that match a rule you set.

  1. 01

    Pick the trigger

Create a Zap, choose Pillar as the starting app and Create Customer as the event, then select your Pillar connection. It is instant, so no interval applies.

  2. 02

    Test on a real customer

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from your Pillar account, so you map the next steps on a real customer instead of empty fields.

  3. 03

    Add a filter

Add a Filter step from the plus icon and set the field, the rule and the value to compare with. Use a text rule on text. This step makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan.

  4. 04

    Add the newsletter step

Add your newsletter tool and its add-subscriber action, then map the customer details brought by the Pillar trigger into its fields.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test the last step once and check the new subscriber on the other side. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on. Customers you already had stay where they are.

Triggers

Pillar triggers on Zapier

1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Pillar, and one of them is instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Create Customer

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new customer created through lead magnet or digital purchase.”

Someone turns into a customer of your Pillar store, either by grabbing a lead magnet or by paying for a digital product, and Pillar starts the Zap with that person. It is the only trigger Pillar offers on Zapier, so every automation that reacts to your audience starts here.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
a fitness creator who wants every new customer welcomed by the newsletter tool she already uses.
Watch out
free sign-ups and paying buyers fire the same trigger, so the Zap treats a download and a sale alike.
Actions

Pillar actions on Zapier

Pillar gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Pillar Customer

Action

In Zapier“Add customer in Pillar customer table”

Adds a person to the customer table of your Pillar account, using contact details gathered in another tool.

When to use it
people who sign up at a live workshop or on a separate form should sit in the same Pillar list as your store customers.
Watch out
first name, last name and email are all required, and nothing checks for duplicates first.
When it breaks

When a Pillar Zap breaks

Zapier ties no help article and no documented limit to Pillar. What goes wrong comes from Zapier's general rules and from the one action's required fields.

Four cases are worth knowing before you publish, because most of them never show a red error in the editor. The Zapier troubleshooting page covers the wider checklist.

  • Past customers are never sent

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Customers already in your Pillar store are not picked up, and moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • Create Customer feeds Create Pillar Customer

A Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can set itself off again and again. Check twice any Zap that starts from Pillar and writes customers back into it, because a loop eats tasks.
  • A big launch gets held back

If a launch brings a huge wave of customers at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold the batch back instead of running every Zap straight away.
  • Missing names stop the action

Create Pillar Customer needs a first name, a last name and an email. When the earlier step leaves one of them empty, the action fails and nothing reaches Pillar.

FAQ

Pillar Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Pillar Zapier integration free?
Yes, for two-step Zaps. Pillar is not a premium app, so it runs on Zapier's free plan, which gives you 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps. The limit is the shape of each Zap: one trigger and one action. Sending new customers from Create Customer to a newsletter tool fits that. Add a filter or a second action, and the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Pillar Zap use?
One task per action that completes. The Create Customer trigger costs nothing when it fires, however many customers your store brings in. Each action after it that succeeds counts as one task, and a failed action is not counted against your plan. A Zap that adds a new customer to a newsletter and also writes them to a sheet spends two tasks per customer. A launch with a lot of sign-ups therefore moves your monthly count fast, so check it before a big campaign.
03Does Pillar on Zapier work in real time?
Yes. The Create Customer trigger is instant: Pillar tells Zapier itself when someone becomes a customer, so nothing waits for a scheduled check. That holds on every plan, the free one included, and the editor marks such Zaps with a lightning bolt. The interval grid you may see elsewhere, 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional and 1 on Team and Enterprise, only applies to polling triggers and does not slow this one down.
04What does it take to connect Pillar to Zapier?
A Pillar account, and access to the store whose customers you want to automate. You connect it once from the Apps page of your Zapier account with + Add connection, sign in to Pillar in the tab that opens and grant access. Every Zap that touches Pillar then reuses that connection. If you manage a creator's store from an agency login, make sure that login can read and add customers, otherwise the Zap cannot do it either.
05Why does Create Pillar Customer fail on some contacts?
Because it needs three things every time: a first name, a last name and an email. If the step feeding it leaves any of them empty, the action does not go through and the contact never reaches Pillar. This happens a lot with forms that only ask for an email. Make the names mandatory at the source, or map a fallback value in the editor, and test with a contact that is missing a name before you publish.
06What if the Pillar operation you need is not there?
Then this integration does not cover it today. Pillar on Zapier offers one trigger, Create Customer, and one action, Create Pillar Customer, and that is all: no search step, no way to update or remove a customer, nothing on products or the media kit. The realistic options are to build around these two operations with other apps doing the rest, or to check whether another automation tool reaches the part of Pillar you are after.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Pillar?
It comes down to criteria, not a winner. On Zapier, weigh three facts. First, the integration covers one instant trigger and one action on customers, nothing else. Second, the free plan handles two-step Zaps, so a simple customer-to-newsletter flow costs nothing beyond tasks. Third, any filter or extra step means a paid plan. If you need more than customers out of Pillar, compare what each tool can actually reach in Pillar before you decide.
