Overview

What the Salesloft Zapier integration actually does

Salesloft is a sales engagement platform: the place where reps run cadences, log calls, book meetings and work their tasks. The integration lets Zapier hear about almost everything that happens there, the moment it happens, and lets a Zap add people to Salesloft or look up people and users.

Three results revenue teams build first. A sales activity feed outside Salesloft: Call Created or Updated and Meeting Created or Updated start a Zap each time a rep logs a call or books a meeting, so the rest of the company sees it. No duplicate people: Find Person looks someone up before anything is written, and its Find or Create Person variant adds them when they are missing. Ownership resolved automatically: Find User returns a member of your team, so a later step knows which rep is involved.

What Zapier does not do here is the other half of the picture. There are only two actions: Create Person, and API Request (Beta) for builders. Zapier cannot update an account, enrol someone in a cadence or complete a task through a ready-made step. And Salesloft is a premium app: no Zap with it runs on the free plan.

The Salesloft Make integration covers the same app if you are comparing platforms, and our Zapier review gives the broader picture.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words from the editor, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it: here, a change on an account, a person, a call or a meeting.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, such as creating a person in Salesloft.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of those.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for a check. All nine Salesloft triggers are instant.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something that already exists, here a person or a user, so the next steps can use it.
Premium app
An app Zapier keeps for paid plans and free trials. Salesloft is one, so the free plan cannot run it.
Cost

What a Salesloft Zap really costs

Two things set the bill: Salesloft's premium status, and the number of actions that succeed.

  • Salesloft on the free planNo, premium app: paid plan or free trial
  • Trigger0 tasks, whatever the activity volume
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Trigger speedInstant on every plan

Salesloft is a premium app, so it needs a paid Zapier plan or a free trial; the free plan, with its 100 tasks a month, does not run it. Once on a paid plan, the trigger never costs a task, however many calls and meetings your team logs. Each action that succeeds counts once, and a failed one is not counted. A filter or a search step makes the Zap multi-step, which paid plans allow. Since every trigger is instant, the plan's polling grid does not slow anything down.

Connect

Connect Salesloft to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Salesloft account linked once, then reused by every Salesloft step in your Zaps.

  2. 02

    Pick Salesloft

Search for Salesloft in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A tab opens on the Salesloft side, where you sign in with the account whose people, calls and meetings you want to automate.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to use the account and the connection appears in every Salesloft step. If records belong to teammates, check that your account can read them, and write to them for Create Person.

First Zap

Your first Zap: make sure every meeting has a known person

GoalEach meeting that passes your rule is matched to a person in Salesloft, who is created if missing.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap, choose Salesloft as the app that starts it and Meeting Created or Updated as the event. Pick the connection you added earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent meetings of the connected account, so you build the rest of the Zap on a real one and can see what it carries.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

From the plus icon, add a Filter and set the field, the rule and the value. Text rules only work on text and number rules on numbers, so match the type or nothing passes.

  4. 04

    Add Find Person

Add Salesloft with Find Person, then tick the box that creates the person when nothing is found. That is the Find or Create Person variant, not a separate operation.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each step once and check the person in Salesloft. Then click Publish. With a filter and a search this is a multi-step Zap, which your paid plan covers.

Triggers

Salesloft triggers

9 events start a Zap when something happens in Salesloft, and 9 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Account Created, Updated or Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a Account. Supports created, updated and deleted Account events.”

Starts your Zap whenever an account in Salesloft is created, changed or removed. One trigger covers the whole life of the company record, which is handy for keeping other tools aligned with what reps see.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a RevOps lead who wants finance told as soon as a new target account appears.
Watch out
three kinds of events share this trigger, so test it and add a filter when only one of them matters.
2

Cadence Created, Updated or Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a Cadence. Supports created, updated and deleted Cadence events.”

Fires when a cadence, the planned sequence of emails, calls and steps a rep follows, is created, edited or deleted. It keeps the people who design outreach informed about changes to the playbook.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a sales enablement manager who wants a log of every cadence edit across the team.
Watch out
a deletion arrives through the same trigger as a creation, so check what came back before acting.
3

Call Created or Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a Call. Supports created and updated Call events.”

Reacts each time a call is logged or changed in Salesloft. That makes it a natural feed for reporting outside the platform.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
an SDR manager who wants each logged call echoed in a shared team channel.
Watch out
an update on a call starts the Zap again, so the same call can come through more than once.
4

Meeting Created or Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a Meeting. Supports created and updated Meeting events.”

Goes off when a meeting is booked or modified. For most teams a booked meeting is the moment that counts, so this is often the first trigger worth wiring.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
an account executive who wants the person behind each new meeting checked in Salesloft before the call.
Watch out
a rescheduled meeting is an update, so it fires again; plan for that in any step that writes.
5

Note Created, Updated or Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a Note. Supports created, updated and deleted Note events.”

Picks up notes as reps write, edit or remove them. Notes carry the context of a deal, and sending them on keeps that context available to people who never open Salesloft.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a customer success team that wants pre-sale notes kept with the account they will inherit.
Watch out
deleting a note also starts the Zap, so a step that copies notes should skip deletions.
6

Person Created, Updated or Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a person. Supports created, updated and deleted person events.”

Follows each person record in Salesloft, from creation to edits to removal. Since people are the core of prospecting, this trigger is the one that keeps contact data consistent across tools.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a marketing ops lead who wants new prospects added by reps to show up in the marketing database.
Watch out
avoid pairing it with Create Person on the same account, or new people keep starting the Zap.
7

Step Created, Created/Updated or Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a Step. Supports created, created or updated, and deleted Step events.”

Watches the individual steps inside cadences: one is added, changed or removed. It is a finer signal than the cadence trigger, useful when a single step matters more than the sequence as a whole.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a team lead who wants to know when someone adds a call step to a shared cadence.
Watch out
its name lists both created and created or updated events, so look at what a test returns first.
8

Task Created, Completed or Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a task. Supports created, completed and deleted task events.”

Fires on tasks: when one is created, when it is completed, or when it is removed. Completed tasks are the useful one for most teams, because they say that a promised follow-up actually happened.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a sales director who wants completed follow-up tasks counted in a team tracker.
Watch out
creation, completion and deletion all arrive here, so a filter is usually needed.
9

User Created or Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an event occurs for a user. Supports created and updated user events.”

Tracks the members of your Salesloft team: a new user is added, or an existing one changes. It helps keep internal lists of reps and owners up to date without manual exports.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
an admin who wants each new rep's arrival announced to IT for the rest of their accounts.
Watch out
there is no deletion event for users, so a departure has to be handled another way.
Actions

Salesloft actions

Salesloft gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Person

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new person.”

Adds a new person to Salesloft, with data mapped from earlier steps. It is how leads captured elsewhere become people your reps can work.

When to use it
a demo request coming from your website should land in Salesloft for the SDR team.
Watch out
it always creates, so put Find Person first, or use Find or Create Person, to avoid duplicates.
2

API Request (Beta)

Action

In Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”

An advanced step that calls Salesloft directly with your existing connection, for what the other steps do not cover. It asks for a method and an address, and it only talks to Salesloft's own domains.

When to use it
a developer needs a Salesloft operation that has no ready step on Zapier.
Watch out
Stop on error is required: Yes halts the Zap when Salesloft returns an error.
Searches

Salesloft searches

2 search steps look for data that already exists in Salesloft, so a later step can use it.

A search step finds something that already exists and hands it to the next steps. In the editor, Salesloft's searches sit at the bottom of the action list, under SEARCH. Three settings decide what happens around each search.

1

Find Person

SearchFind or create

In Zapier“Finds an existing person.”

Looks up a person who already exists in Salesloft, so the next steps work on that record instead of a copy. The editor also lists Find or Create Person: it is this same search with the create box ticked, not a separate operation.

When to use it
before Create Person, to stop a returning prospect from being added twice.
Watch out
whether the match must be exact is up to Salesloft, so test with a real record.
2

Find User

Search

In Zapier“Finds an existing user in your team.”

Finds a member of your Salesloft team and passes their details on. Useful when a step needs to know which rep is involved rather than which prospect.

When to use it
a meeting comes in and a later step must name the rep who owns it.
Watch out
it only searches users of your team, never prospects.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there and the steps that depended on it are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
Ticking it turns the search into a find-or-create: the setting above disappears and the step asks for the fields needed to create the missing item.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one, which is the default, stop the Zap, or hand all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a Salesloft Zap breaks

With nine instant triggers, problems rarely come from delays. They come from events that repeat and from the plan.

Zapier links two help articles to Salesloft, How to get started with Salesloft on Zapier and Salesloft: new app launched, and records no rate limit for it. The cases below are the general limits every Zap shares, applied to a sales team's activity. Read them before you publish. If a run fails anyway, the Zapier troubleshooting page is the place to start.

  • A Zap that will not run on the free plan

Salesloft is a premium app. On the free plan the Zap cannot run; you need a paid plan or a free trial before it does anything.
  • Create Person feeding its own trigger

Person Created, Updated or Deleted plus Create Person on the same account: each new person starts the Zap again and burns tasks. Write elsewhere or filter.
  • Past calls and meetings are not replayed

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Activity logged before stays where it is; moving that history is a separate job.
  • A bulk import held back

Importing thousands of people at once can trigger Zapier's flood protection, which can hold the batch back rather than running every event.

FAQ

Salesloft Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Salesloft Zapier integration free?
No. Salesloft is a premium app on Zapier, which means it is reserved for paid plans and free trials. The free plan, with its 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps, cannot run a Zap that uses Salesloft. Plan for a paid plan or a trial before you design the workflow. Once you are on a paid plan, multi-step Zaps with filters and searches become available too, which most Salesloft workflows need.
02How many tasks does a Salesloft Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. A sales team logs a lot of calls, meetings and notes, but Salesloft telling Zapier about them costs nothing. What you pay for is each Create Person or other action that completes. Failed actions are not counted. So a Zap that creates a person for each booked meeting costs one task per meeting. Count the events you keep after filters, multiply by the actions, and you have the figure to compare with your plan.
03Do Salesloft triggers work in real time?
Yes. All nine Salesloft triggers are instant: Salesloft tells Zapier the moment an account, person, cadence, call, meeting, note, step, task or user changes, and the Zap starts right away. The polling grid of the Zapier plans does not apply to them. In the editor, a lightning bolt marks a Zap built on an instant trigger. That speed is real, which is also why updates matter: an edited call or a rescheduled meeting starts the Zap again.
04What does it take to connect Salesloft?
A Salesloft account, a Zapier account on a paid plan or a free trial, and access to the records you want to automate. From the Apps page of Zapier you add a connection, pick Salesloft, sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. The connection is then reused by every Salesloft step. If the people or accounts belong to teammates, check that your account can read them, and write to them if you plan to use Create Person.
05Why does a Salesloft Zap run twice for the same call?
Because the trigger covers both creation and updates. Call Created or Updated starts the Zap when a call is logged, and again when that call is edited, and since the trigger is instant the repeat arrives straight away. The same goes for meetings that are rescheduled, and for accounts, people and notes, whose triggers also include deletions. Test the trigger to see what comes back, then add a filter so that only the events you care about go through.
06What if the Salesloft operation you need is not on the list?
Then the ready steps cannot do it. Salesloft on Zapier has nine triggers but only Create Person and API Request (Beta) as actions, plus two searches: no ready step updates an account, enrols someone in a cadence or completes a task. API Request (Beta) can reach other Salesloft features with your connection, but it asks for a method and an address, so it suits someone used to the Salesloft documentation. Writing down the exact gap helps compare platforms.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Salesloft?
Choose by criteria rather than ranking. Operations first: on Zapier, Salesloft offers nine instant triggers, two actions and two searches, strong on listening and light on writing. Cost next: it is a premium app, so it needs a paid plan, and each successful action is a task. Then the gaps: no ready step updates an account, enrols someone in a cadence or completes a task. This site also documents Salesloft on Make, so list your scenario's steps and check which platform covers all of them.
